I think this might be better than Harry Potter – Skatronixxx
J.K Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them has been something of an enigma since the announcement that the adaptation of the Comic Relief book written back in 2001 was going into production. Aside from casting news, nothing really has been reported on story context or new characters that Harry Potter fans are itching to meet.
Now finally Entertainment Weekly revealed that primary protagonist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), an english born magi-zoologist. Will transverse the magical world of 1926 finding himself in New York for a very specific purpose, of which the studio is keeping tight lipped about. Let the rumour mill fly on the one.
Armed with a familiar TARDIS like bag (which Hermonie carried around in Deathly Hallows) containing ‘expansive habitats for a collection of rare and endangered magical creatures’ he’s collected from all around the world. Newt’s arrival in New York is met with hostility as he discovers that the Witches and Wizards of America hiding in fear of the non-magical community (called “No-Maj” rather than Muggles) for fear of magical exposure. The film will show the ‘story of what happens when this uniquely skilled English wizard travels to wiz-phobic America and a variety of his creatures, some quite dangerous … get out of their case.’ If Jurassic World is anything to go by expect lots of running and screaming … but far less dinosaurs, maybe?
We also gain much more information of the characters that we will meet in Fantastic Beasts including Katherine Waterston’s Porpentina ‘Tina’ Goldstein (pictured above left) described as an ‘ambitious’ employee of the Magical Congress of the United States (presumably Americas answer to the Ministry of Magic), who ‘longs to fight for what’s right.’ Alongside Tina will be her younger sister Queenie Goldstein (Alison Sudol, pictured above right) “a big-hearted free-spirit” who also posses the ability to read minds. The film will also feature the first muggle to have prominent role in a Harry Potter film in the form of Dan Folger’s Jacob Kowalski. An ‘optimistic No-Maj (aka Muggle) factory worker/aspiring baker’, who is stumbles upon the world of magic when he meets Newt.
Rounding up the cast is the nefarious Mary Lou, a ‘narrow-minded leader of the fanatical Second Salemers, a group looking to expose and destroy wizards and witches.’ Played by Samantha Morton, Mary Lou will be joined by Ezra Miller as her “troubled adopted son” Credence, of which not much is known about his character or his alliances. Colin Farrell will also star as Graves, ‘a powerful auror and the right-hand man of the American wizarding world’s president.’
With Fantastic Beasts reported to be the first in a prequel Trilogy, the film certainly has a lot to live up too when it opens in theatres November 18, 2016.
