A Review Of X-Men Apocalypse

Days of Future Past was an X-men movie that basically reboot the entire X-men universe through an awesome time travel plot that was insanely heartfelt and inspiring (I remember leaving the cinema all teary eyed with the general feeling that everything is possible). In other words, it is a given that any follow up to this film would be an awesome re-introduction to the newly re-created X-men universe. And the Apocalypse trailers did show a LOT of promise, I mean it is only fitting that a universe gets destroyed right after it is created!

However, Apocalypse, with all his might, did not have the power to live up to my expectations.

The movie had a lot of issues most prominent of which was Apocalypse himself. Everything about him was anticlimactic, he wasn’t even half as terrifying as I hoped he would be, his four horsemen recruitment arch was too long, yet didn’t give any of the characters justice (no detailed background story to any of them, except for Eric/Magneto, and that’s thanks to the first two X-men films).

Even though Sophie Turner stole the show, I still expected much more from Gene Grey. The CGI in the only massive fight scene in the movie wasn’t good (some air flips Psylocke did were just horribly executed). The only truly entertaining part in the film is the return of the Quicksilver’s high-speed rescue scene, but it was dragged on for too long and by the end of it I was like “Yes, we get it, he fast, now move on!!!!”.

Added to that, the movie felt more like it was building for the following X-men films (I just learned that there will be another trilogy following this one), not sure why they did that with a movie called Apocalypse which is about the end of the world. Even this wasn’t done well enough, some characters didn’t get the screen time they should have gotten (Psylocke only had like 2 lines in the whole film!!).

By the end of the film, credits were rolling, people started leaving. My friend joked about untrue fans leaving before the famous marvel end credit scenes, my genuine response was that true fans had already left 15 minutes through…

But, this is just my opinion on the matter, and I wanna know about yours. Did you like the film? Did it meet your expectations? Or did you hate it with every fiber of your being (I know I did)?
