Gotham’s series two finale is something to be applauded. Hands down one of my favorite season finales in recent years.
This finale opens with a recap of the last episode leading to Professor Strange making Clayface become Gordon. Gordon the stalwart hero never would help the villains, but Hugo is going to get all he can.
It then returns to Hugo and Gordon, Hugo has injected our hero with “Honesty serum”. He asks him all that he knows, and about his ex paramour Lee, who I honestly hope he is done with for good. Finding out he doesn’t know all that he wants he tells him he has only hours to live. He also references “The Court” who can be none other than the Court of Owls.
Nygma has Bruce and Lucius trapped in a room, a room ready to be flooded with poison if they don’t answer his question. “He asks who runs Wayne Enterprises.?” They try as hard as they can and end up answering the board of directors. Yowzah, that is the wrong answer. As poison floods the room, Bruce’s life flashes before his eyes and suddenly he wakes up with Lucius in the room where Gordon is.
I love Clayface Gordon, he is trying to be the real Gordon but its rather suspect. But Harvey seems a little slow, as saying you have the flu wouldn’t really change a person that much. CFG clearly only knows a rudimentary amount of information about our hero and is trying his best, but he will need some work to become the great villain he will one day be.
One of my favorite parts of the episode would be a small scene where Penguin is decorating his home with Barbara and Butch. He is trying to find a place to put his trophy, the head of his father’s Black widow. He can’t help but listen to Barbara as she really knows what she is talking about.
As usual, my least favorite part of the episode revolves around Fish Mooney. The fact that she has repeated the line, “I’m Fish Mooney, Bitch” repulses me. Her new special power of controlling people is rather weak. She takes over Strange’s weakly normal sidekick Ethel Peabody. Then she has Peabody chase Strange as he runs to press the destruction button, readying the end of Indian Hill. BD Wong has really proved to be the best choice for the role of Strange.
Bruce encounters Selina again and she tells him she has had him wrapped her around her finger the whole time. Though she does later let him out along with Lucius and Gordon. Strange running from Fish’s controlled sidekick Peabody runs to set the bomb after knocking her out with his briefcase.
Barbara, one of my favorite characters on the show, finds out that the Clayface Gordon is a fake when he comes onto her and disparages Lee. She smacks him and his face moves, causing them all to realize something strange is going on.
Back in the Prison, Strange talks to Selina, Firefly and Mr.Freeze. Selina tries to fight for her friends, and Strange orders Mr.Freeze to kill her. Firefly standing up for her friend, gets upset. A duel between the two begins. Seeing Gordon Strange perks up and tries to get away.
Strange runs from the Heroes who were able to escape from the cage, runs between two opposing forces. In a fight between Mr.Freeze and Firefly, the beams cross and Strange is frost burned. Gordon saves him and he is later arrested, though he is freaking out over the villains who will have been let go and that he is in a load of trouble.
With the use of Nygma, since Strange is out of comission for the moment, they dump water on the bomb and it is safely deactivated. Though without a thirsty Mrs.Peabody they wouldn’t have though to do this.
Fish Mooney who has escaped, le sigh, drives a bus down a road. Gordon tells Bullock what is going on and they chase the bus. Fish is then attacked by The Penguin and his allies who include his old right hand man Butch. In another brilliant move they blast the bus with bullets causing it to crash.
Gordon leaves Gotham to search for Lee. Bruce tells Alfred he has more to do in solving the mystery. Bullock is told by Gordon to take true command and cut his hair since he is the chief.
.As Penguin goes to confront Strange who he thinks is driving the bus. Fish Mooney walks out and taps him on the shoulder. In a stunning moment he turns and is shocked before she touches his face and knocks him out. His allies run leaving him for dead in the street.
The episode ends with the an old woman pushing a shopping cart close to the bus filled with Strange’s monsters. There are a cacophony of noises playing in the background, but one laugh pierces the bubble, the laugh of none other then Jerome our proto Joker. As the monsters pour out of the bus, the last shot is of a Bruce Wayne Clone thanking the woman for letting them out.
Can’t wait until the Fall for Gotham Season 3. Wonder what these monsters will be.
