Say it ain’t SO, ShowTime!!
Rumor and speculation has it that my fave TV show, one of the best offerings that ShowTime has IMHO, will perhaps NOT get a Season 4!
These rumors, reported on CarterMatt and seen @EvaGreenWeb absolutely break my heart. I think the premise is bloody brilliant, the characters are bloody brilliant, and the cast are much more than bloody brilliant. In a time when many series and movies are little better than remakes or copies of each other, this show stands out as pretty much completely original.
It would seem that the ratings aren’t the best among the 18 – 49 demographic. To that I say, they are definitely not the worst either! ShowTime could do so much worse than to renew Penny Dreadful. We Dreadfuls may be a relatively small following in the grand scheme of things, but we are intensely loyal. And we believe that there are many more stories for the characters to tell. Too many for it to just end.
The stellar cast of Eva Green, Timothy Dalton, Josh Hartnett, Reeve Carney, Billie Piper, Wes Studi and Rory Kinnear deserve to have their characters’ stories told to completion.
There is one thing that might encourage ShowTime to renew. Eva Green was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Drama at the 73rd Golden Globe Awards. That was for her incredible portrayal of Vanessa Ives in the 2015 season. Her work in this current season is BETTER! Another thing to note is that ShowTime did not renew for the 3rd season until nearly the end of the 2nd, sometime in June of last year. So there is still time, and hope. It states in one article by movienewsguide that a poll done on the official site shows that 99.45% of voters want it back. I can’t find the poll on Penny Dreadful’s official site, so I can’t verify that. I did find a poll on CarterMatt, and voted. If anyone knows where the official site poll is, please let me know. I want to be counted!
Let us hope against hope Dreadfuls! Let us do MORE than just hope. Let us RISE UP as Lily would exhort us to! I’m guessing that @EvaGreenWeb would be happy to hear from you, so drop them a tweet showing your support.
The Season 3 finale will air on June 19th, in a 2-part event. There are trailers out for Episode 8, but none for episode 9 at this time.
