Not One But TWO Agatha Christie Biopics Planned!

I have long been a fan of Agatha Christie. I spent many, many happy hours (too many if you ask my mum) reading the adventures of Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot. And I recently discovered that my love of Agatha Christies’ work must be tied to a genetic marker or something, because one of my grandchildren also enjoys the little Belgian detective’s adventures, lol. What generation gap?

According to an article by joblo.com, and one at womenandhollywood.com, there is a treat upcoming at some point in the future for fans of Agatha Christie. It seems that two companies, Sony and Paramount, are waiting for approval from the Christie Estate before their respective projects can move forward. At first glance, Sony and Paramount appear to be competing, but I bet that Christie fans will want to see both versions. I know that I will. Sony is looking at her non-traditional life  as a whole, and Paramount appears to be concentrating on theories of what happened to Agatha during the 11 days of 1926 that she went missing. Did you know that David Tennant and Catherine Tate had an explanation for that period in Doctor Who Season 4 Episode 7 The Unicorn and the Wasp, lol?

Sony is currently in talks with Alicia Vikander to play Agatha in their title, Agatha Christie, while Paramount wants Emma Stone to play the writer in their version, titled Agatha.

Swedish actress Alicia Vikander’s works include Ex Machina (2015), and The Man from U.N.C.L.E (2015). Films in post production include the roles of Lara Croft in the upcoming Tomb Raider remake, and Heather Lee in Jason Bourne. Sounds like she may have a lot to offer for the role of Agatha Christie.

American actress Emma Stone has the role of Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spiderman (2012) and The Amazing Spiderman 2 (2014) to her credit. She has appeared in Saturday Night Live (2015), 30 Rock (2012), Drive (2007) and Malcolm in the Middle (2006). She has also done voiceovers for Robot Chicken and is in pre-production for The Croods 2. Versatile lady!

Approval for either of these projects could take a while, since it has historically taken years for the Christie Estate to approve previous projects. I think though, that they will both be worth the wait. What do you think, Christie fans?

For something completely different, here’s the preorder trailer for the game The ABC Murders which was scheduled to be released in February of this year.
