Looking for something to pass the time until the next season of GoT? This HBO original looks like it might do much more than pass the time!
IMDb has this to say: “A series inspired by the 1973 film of the same title written by Micheal Crichton about a futuristic theme park populated by artificial beings”. Sounds kinda dry and dull, put that way. I prefer what HBO has to say about it.
“Westworld is a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin.”
K, they had me at dark odyssey, lol.. but when they throw in Sir Anthony Hopkins and Ed Harris, well that’s like taking a scoop of chocolate ice cream, floating it on a bed of dark chocolate sauce, bracketing it with double chocolate fudge brownies, and then topping it with chocolate covered coffee beans. In other words, I am so THERE!
Westworld ‘s cast, headed up by Sir Anthony Hopkins and Ed Harris, also includes Ben Barnes (The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian and Voyage of the Dawn Treader), Ingrid Bolsø Berdal (Chernobyl Diaries, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters), Scott Marsden (X-Men franchise), Thandie Newton (The Chronicles of Riddick, The Pursuit of Happyness) just to name a few. The cast is actually massive – I had to scroll and scroll… and then scroll some more to get to the executive producers: JJ Abrams, Jonathan Nolan, Bryan Burke, Richard J Lewis, and Lisa Joy Nolan. The writers are Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy Nolan.

Micheal Crichton has writing credit on the series for earlier screenplays. And of course, he wrote and directed the 1973 movie starring Yul Brynner and James Brolin. Crichton, was quite the visionary. Did you know that this film was the grandfather of modern CGI? There was 2 minutes of film that had to be processed by a computer, a technique pioneered for this movie, to provide the audience with the Robot’s point of view. And the robots going rogue was ascribed to a disease, a virus, before there was even such a thing as a computer virus. Arnold Schwarzenegger later based his Terminator on Westworld’s Robot Gunslinger.
Westworld premieres in October according to a tweet by Westworld@westworldHBO on Jun 19. We at Skatronixxx will update you as more news and trailers become available. So, will you be there, too? Let me know in the comments below, or you can tweet me at @Alexmi6.
