Publishing houses today do not like to take risks. They prefer to publish books written by well known authors who have a solid fanbase following. However, people like me, sometimes prefer new writers with styles and stories I have never seen before. People like that find themselves in the world of independent publishers. So here, on this week’s Bookette, we give tribute to those lesser known indie titles, by sharing some of the books we came across this past month.
Diary of a Lap Dancer by Sunshine Ross
Sunshine Ross speaks from experience with this one. With this novel, based on her own experiences as an exotic dancer, Ross exposes the ins and outs that go on backstage at a strip-club. The story unapologetically reveals appalling customer behaviors (including celebrities), and Managers’ demands. All the gritty details about a stripper’s life, details to questions we are all afraid to ask, are within the pages of this book so, “keep your hands where we can see them! Read like nobody is watching…”
The Strife of Brian by Chris Moon
Brian, an aging man refusing to grow old (by old here we mean “the slow decline into cardigan and slippers by the fire“). He tries to remain attached to his boyhood, a task made easier after getting an unexpected Christmas present. With this book we follow Brian on his amusing and inspirational journey.
Children of the Mists by Lexa Dudley
Set in the 1800’s on the island of Sardinia, two families united by love, friendship, and honor fall to omens, suspicions, death and revenge. But Raphaella and Antonio are promised to each other, and nothing can keep them apart. This historic rendition of life on the island, and enduring love is a great addition to any romance reader’s library.
Let us know if you are a fan of indie titles? What do you like about them? And what are some of your favorites?
If you, or you know someone who has recently published a book, let us know about it, we would be happy to include it in our indie lists if the future. Drop me a private message on twitter (@DarthAybak), I won’t bite :p.
