Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Is A Reboot???

Everyone’s favourite pirate is back again, but this time it’s not for a sequel. Unlike previous Pirates of the Caribbean movies, Dead Men Tell No Tales will be more of a reboot. Savvy? Well you might be thinking how is this possible, considering our main man Johnny Depp is reprising his role as Captain Jack Sparrow. The franchise will focus on Sparrow’s rivalry with his former nemesis Captain Salazar (so that’s what happened after he left Hogwarts), as well as Will Turner’s relationship with his son Henry Turner. I won’t go into further detail because then it won’t be much of a surprise, but since this is supposedly the final movie of the franchise just know that Disney plans on going out with a bang. Filming commenced on February 17, 2015, and finished on July 8, 2015. After nearly a year in post-production, additional photography was finished on April 13th, 2016.

Here’s the cast:

  • Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow
  • Javier Bardem as Captain Salazar
  • Geoffrey Rush as Captain Hector Barbossa
  • Brenton Thwaites as Henry Turner
  • Kaya Scodelario as Carina Smyth
  • Orlando Bloom as Will Turner / Davy Jones
  • Kevin McNally as Mr. Gibbs

Yes, sadly Keira Knightley‘s Elizabeth Swann will not be returning. Personally I would’ve loved to see her and Will have a little reunion, but oh well. On another note, Javier Bardem, husband of Penelope Cruz who portrayed Angelica in the fourth POTC movie, will be a part of the same franchise. Cool, right? As for the other two new main cast members, Brenton Thwaites and Kaya Scodelario, I think they’ve made perfect additions to the POTC family. Scodelario even broke an arm while filming, see the picture below.

Scodelario and Thwaites on the set of POTC: Dead Men Tell No Tales

Here’s the plot: ‘Captain Jack Sparrow finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar, escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea…including him. Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.’

While the trailer has yet to be released, Disney has announced the official release date for the film to be May 26, 2017, so save the date and stock up on rum.

Are you excited for POTC5? Or do you think Disney should’ve called it quits with the last one? Whatever your opinion, I’d love to hear it. Share, like and comment below, or tweet me @SohoDoll.

  1. I kind of feel this franchise ran its course awhile back. First movie was awesome, the two follow ups were watchable and then it should have just called it a day. Or found a new group of pirates to follow. This is one that is just hanging around for the name recognition at this point.
