Sherlock Season 4 Trailer Launched

Sherlock-Season-4

Oof. I am a die-hard Sherlock Holmes fangirl and I love the BBC, but damn was this trailer dark. The lightheartedness of the previous three seasons are gone – there is not one strip of humor in the minute and thirty second trailer. Everything is death, and it looks like Sherlock will be pushed to the extreme in the next season as evidenced by his gaunt face and consistent five o’clock shadow.

The trailer shows actor Toby Jones to be the major villain in Season 4 (sidenote: horrifying, hair-raising laugh). Personally, I believe Moriarty is dead, and that he was smart enough to figure out a way to make Holmes’ life a living hell from beyond the grave, and that the focus will shift to Toby Jones’ character as the main villain.
So the three clue words for this upcoming season are: “Thatcher,” “Smith,” and “Sherrinford.” The current theories are that no one really knows what “Thatcher” could relate to except for a password in “The Hounds of Baskerville” and an old Watson blog post where an art student is killed by a clay bust of Margaret Thatcher. There are more leads on “Smith,” in which Toby Jones is confirmed to be playing a man named “Culverton Smith,” who is a character from “The Adventure of the Dying Detective” by Arthur Conan Doyle. Story about poison and Sherlock pretending to poison himself to trick Smith out of hiding – good story. Curious how they’re going to modernize it.

And last but not least, “Sherrinford.” Leading theory? The eldest Holmes brother who takes care of the Holmes estate so the younger two can go play parliament and private detective.

This series has never let me down, and for a collection of short stories that was published in the late 1880s-early 1890s, it has been wonderfully modernized and turned into fantastic entertainment. Let’s just hope in this next season we’ll have enough banter and everyday moments to balance out the drama and destruction.

And let’s not forget that Mary has a little one on the way… can’t wait to see how this ends up! Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think in the comments below.

The trailer is AMAZING!! The most thrilling part, for me, is Mrs Hudson telling Mycroft to ‘Get of my house, you reptile!” The emotion on both of their faces is incredible! I can quote word for word the last clip, though!
