An Interview With Cosplayer MCubed Cosplay

Hi Readers
It’s time for another cosplay interview, this time we meet MCubed Cosplay. MCubed Cosplay first caught my attention with her Misty from Pokemon cosplay! Let’s find out some more about MCubed Cosplay .

1) How did you get into cosplaying?

I have been acting my whole life! I was a theater major in college and love it, I have also always been nerdy – I thought cosplay was the perfect transition into the real world. My fans keep me motivated, I have been cosplaying for about 3 years now and I don’t plan on stopping.

2) Where do you get your inspiration and ideas to cosplay from? Is it from programs you watch now or childhood programs or both?

Honestly when I first started cosplaying/modeling I didn’t know much about it at all. The biggest inspiration for me was actually the members of the Rebel Legion and 501st! They helped me, pushed me, and immediately accepted me as one of their group! One of my biggest goals is to inspire others to have great confidence! I want everyone to be confident in themselves, their bodies and their skills. But, I especially hope to inspire little girls to realize that they can achieve anything! That is the reason I always tend to cosplay very strong, independent female characters – they call to me. I believe I have grown into one of those strong women, and I want little girls to want to grow up to be just as strong!

3) How do you put your outfits together are they 100% from scratch and if so what’s been your trickiest part to date?

I try to make most of my costumes from scratch because I strive to make screen accurate cosplays. I also like to find things from thrift stores and redo/repurpose them. I have always known how to sew, but learning all of the other skills you need in order to make cosplays happen has been an amazing challenge! Luckily I have amazing people in my life that have helped me every step of the way! And I’m also stubborn and refuse to give up until I’ve conquered a skill!

4) What’s your favourite cosplay to date?

I love all of my cosplays but I am most well-known right now for my Rey. I made this costume completely from scratch, dyed my hair to match the character, and was the 3 rd person in the world to have a screen accurate costume. I love cosplaying as Rey, not only because I look very similar to Daisy, but because she is such a strong and inspirational female role model.

5) If you’ve cosplayed at a convention what was the experience like?

I love conventions! They’re great experiences! Now that I have been doing it several years and have been a cosplay guest at many cons, I get recognized a lot and I have actually had fans from my social media come to Texas cons from different states. Everyone I meet is amazing and I have had the chance to meet a lot of inspirational people; I try to learn something new from everyone.

6) Can we expect to see you at any conventions this year?

I’ve already been to a lot of cons this year and have already started booking for 2017, but here is my schedule for the rest of this year:

  • Geekinomicon – Oklahoma City, OK – September 2-4
  • BAM Fest – Burleson, TX – Sep 17
  • New York Comic Con (with Cosplay Against Bullying) – New York City, NY – Oct 7-9
  • Alamo City Comic Con (with Cosmunity) – San Antonio, TX – Oct 28-30
  • Geek Fair – Shreveport, LA – Dec 10

I will know about more soon.

7) If you could cosplay as anyone and budget wasn’t an issue who would it be?

Pepper Potts rescue armor! There is a piece of art by Jon Hughes that I would love to recreate for a photo shoot!

8) Do you have any words of advice for up and coming cosplayers?

Building and perfecting cosplay gets super frustrating and sometimes you want to give up, but in the end it’s soooo worth it! And with modeling and cosplay – you will always continue to get better and to grow. I love my fans and I love talking nerdy and taking pictures with you! If you see me at a con don’t hesitate to come up and say hi to me.

9) Where can we find you online?
