Stu’s Track Of The Week 24/05/16

rsz_4d596d976952c6ccdc0bbb62147c92b3

So it’s time again for my track of the week and this weeks choice comes from Pennywise and there song “Fuck Authority” taken from the album Land Of The Free? So this one takes me back to my days of spending my weekends inline skating around my home town whilst blasting skate punk into my ears without a care in the world.

The album was release back on the 19th of June 2001 and was released by Epitaph and was the bands follow up album to the commercially successful album Straight Ahead. The album reached number 67 in the top 200 Billboard charts and reached  number 21 on the Australian  ARIA album charts and “Fuck Authority” was released as the single to promote the album.

“Pennywise themselves called Land of the Free? ‘a wake-up call,’ aimed at the slumbering masses of America — an attempt to shake people out of their lethargy, and prod them into thinking about the world.”

So here we go with my track of the week Pennywise – Fuck Authority

‘Baywatch’ Reboot Finishes Filming

rsz_landscape-1456221042-dwayne-johnson-zac-efron-baywatch-first-look.jpg

So the Baywatch reboot filming has finally come to an end and is set for release to the big screen in May 2017. You may or may  not have been aware that this was in the works but if you follow Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s instagram profile like me then you would be fully aware that this has been in the works.

Fans of the old Baywatch are not exactly thrilled about the reboot of the famous lifeguard TV series being rebooted but Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson sure is hell is happy about the reboot. “It has been an amazing experience. I mean, we have been working days, working nights, in the ocean, out of the ocean, the sharks, the octopuses stuff… all that kind of stuff, it’s been amazing,”this straight from his instagram account.

Then “Aside from us making one hell of a movie, the greatest part is I had the opportunity and privilege to work with the greatest crew in Hollywood.” Could this finally be a reboot that I can get behind and enjoy lets wait and see. The cast includes The Rock himself, Zac Efron and Alexandra Daddario and Kelly Rohrbach as Summer Quinn and C.J. Parker. We also see the return of Pamela Anderson and David Hasselhoff but not as lead characters this even thought Anderson originally saying she wanted nothing to do with it “I kind of want to leave it as is and be remembered for that. I don’t know if I wanna go on Baywatch and be like, the old lady working at a counter somewhere,” but as we see she must of had a change of heart.

Here is a link to The Rocks Instagram post once filming had finished https://www.instagram.com/p/BFkmOL2Ih_B/?hl=en

So we will have to wait for the trailer before we can judge if this is going to be a winner or a disaster better left at sea.

Wolverine 3 Cast Adds Elizabeth Rodriguez

rsz_onelasttime640

So it has been announced that Elizabeth Rodriguez (Fear of the Walking Dead/ Orange Is The New Black) to the cast they have not yet released what character Rodriguez will play but we do know it will be a “small but key role”.

But if the rumors that are coming out about the film are true about it being linked to the old man Logan story line we could see Rodriguez take up one of two roles either as Laura Kinney (X-23) this being linked to my article about Bryan Singer pitching a female Wolverine or we could see her play Maureen Logan’s wife from the comic books these are all rumors of course and we could see her play another part in the film.

Rodriguez is only another member added to an already growing cast which includes the likes of Stephen Merchant, Eriq La Salle and Elise Neal in as yet unknown roles. We also know that Boyd Holbrook (Narcos) is set to play the films main antagonist and that Richard E. Grant (Jekyll & Hyde) has been signed up as an unspecified mad scientist and Patrick Stewart as Professor X.

I for one am extremely excited to see this film when it is released in 2017 as I am a huge Wolverine fan and will also sorely miss Jackman’s portrayal of one of my favorite Marvel characters.

Rage Against The Machine, Cypress Hill & Public Enemy Supergroup

rsz_ragewebsite-screenshot

So Rage Against The Machine recently peaked everyone’s interest by launching a website called http://prophetsofrage.com/ getting people excited about the possible return of the awesome band that have not played together since 2011.

However it now appears that this is not the case but we are seeing the forming of some kind of super group including three of the four memebers of RATM Guitarist Tom Morello (RATM), Bassist Tim Commerford and Drummer Brad Wilk taking up vocal duties in the absence of Zack de la Rocha are Chuck D from Public Enemy and B-Real of Cypress Hill and the group will be called Prophets Of Rage.

The name of the group is taken from a Public Enemy song of the same name and it appears that the group will be covering songs from all three groups when they play there first show on the 3rd of June at the Hollywood Palladium and a follow up show has been planned at Whiskey a Go Go and there may be a possibility of a Summer 2016 tour.

So we will have to wait and see if the group release any recorded material before the count down has finished or if we will have to wait until after the first show. I will be looking forward to hearing the material once it has been released to see if it feels the same without Zack leading the line.

Interview With ‘The Spins’

rsz_the_spins

So I approached The Spins about conducting an interview for the site and they were more than happy to oblige. The band are a Pop Rock band from Roquebrune Cap-Martin, France and consist of Alessia Mattalia (drums) Mai Agan (bass) Marcello Giordano (keyboards, backing vocals) Ludovic Briand (guitar, lead vocals). So lets see what the band have to say in the interview below.

How did the band form?

Marcello: “In 2010, soon after the release of Jeff Beck’s Hammerhead, Alessia and I began to collaborate with a London based producer, who was trying to build an international project aiming to chart in the UK. For a number of reasons the project didn’t move forward, but we had the opportunity to meet Estonian bassist Mai Agan, no joke one of the best female bassist worldwide. So, when Alessia and I decided to resume the project, Mai has obviously been our first choice. Then last summer we had the chance to see Ludovic playing live at the port of Montecarlo with his Tribute to Toto. Not only his technical abilities and his own style in playing guitar but also his voice convinced us he was our man. After 4 months of pre-production made via e-mail we decided we had enough material for an EP. So we booked two weeks in Manchester at Vibe Studios and began the sessions while making a deep search to find a great female vocalist in town. During the recording sessions the resident producer Dean Glover suggested we could try with a very young but very talented female vocalist called Amy Danielle. We did it and now she’s The Spins’ lead vocalist.”

How would you describe your musical style?

Alessia: “Something in the middle of modern electronic pop and classic rock.

Your new EP is due out on the 28th of June what can we expect from the new EP? Marcello: “I’d say a concept song (Hole In The Ground, a song about a girl who could be the insane daughter of The Beatles’ infamous serial killer Maxwell), 3 wannabe chartbreakers and the title-track, that I started from the (very psychedelic) lyrics I wrote on a sleepness night and that represents our attempt to write music without thinking to charts, sounds, beats a-la-modeand so on. That’s the music as we feel it should be”

rsz_the_spins3

A question to Alessia – What was it like working with Jeff Beck?

Alessia: “It’s been like working with a myth who revealed to be not just an incredible musician but a passionate lover of music and a very kind man, who succeeded in making me feeling absolutely comfortable from the very beginning of the recording sessions even if I was playing with a piece of music history.”

Who would you say is the biggest musical influence on the band?

Marcello: “There is not just one musical influence. Mai comes from jazz, if you listen to the works of her modern jazz-fusion band MaiGroup you would understand how she seems to be distant from my background made of classical music, The Beatles and The Who and Alessia’s one, a deep connoisseur of the 80’s and whose drumming style has been built following the traces of Terry Bozzio, Dave Weckl, Simon Phillips and so on. I can say we have several musical influences that we try to mix and build our own unique sound.”

If you could have one guest musician to do a song with alive or dead who would it be and why?

Marcello: “Dead Freddy Mercury, alive Paul McCartney.”

Do you have any tours lined up this year?

Marcello:Yes, summer and early Autumn will be dedicated to an intensive UK tour.”

Tell our readers a fun fact about the band that they may not know?

Alessia: “One night we decided to go downtown for dinner, so we decided to eat in a kebab restaurant. After having ordered our meals, Mai and I decided to go to the toilet. When we got there I realized that there was no possibility to close the door, so I asked Marcello to come and stay in front of it until we had finished, and when he reached us he immediately burst out laughing as he realized that there was no lock at the door because the doorknob has been used to substitute the push button of the flush! Absolutely crazy.”

Can you give are music savvy readers some information on what equipment the band uses?

Marcello:Alessia’s Liberty Drums kit is made of two snares (8” and 14”), two hi-hats (one per side), 22” bass drum, four toms, one gong tom, an Axis X double pedal and UFIP cymbals. Mai uses an american Fender Jazz bass, Ludovic uses a Fender Stratocaster electric guitar, an Ernie Ball Music Man LIII electric guitar and a Cort Grand Regal acoustic guitar. I have a studio configuration (Korg M5 88 keys, an Acer laptop equipped with Windows 10, Studio One 3 Pro and a huge list of VST synths and FX) and a live one, which includes a Kawai MP9000 stage piano, a Clavia Nord C2, an Arturia MatrixBrute and a M-Audio 88 keys master keyboard connected to my laptop.”

Finally what advice would you give any up and coming musicians?

Alessia: “Difficult to say. Work with humility, keep on studying to improve your skills, never be so conceited not to accept an advice from a fellow colleague and pray that someday you will have the chance to be in the right place at the right time.”

Stu’s Track Of The Week 18/05/16

rsz_rancid

So this weeks track of the week we revisit Rancid’s album And Out Come The Wolves and the track Maxwell Murder at 1 minute 25 seconds it’s a fast paced track and the reason I chose this track was for the bass solo by Matt Freeman. Being a bass player myself this is the sort of playing level I would love to aspire to every song that he plays on you can just feel the energy of his playing style. He is a an extremely solid and energetic bass player and every thing he plays just seems effortless.

The album itself is a classic in my eyes and definitely one of Rancid’s best albums to date so if you have a spare minute and a half crank up the volume and go mental no matter where you are.

Top Gun 30th Anniversary

rsz_kdpgvkzyt2d0a1wxwhk0

So on May the 16th 2016 Top Gun the movie turned 30 this means I was only 2 years old when the movie was released which when I think about it is crazy but none the less it still stands on it’s own as a classic film.

For those of you who have not seen Top Gun let me give you a bit of background on the film itself it stars Tom Cruise as lose cannon fighter pilot Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell who has entered into flight school to try and be the best pilot there is. He brings with him some attitude that rubs the other pilots in the flight school the wrong way especially Val Kilmers character Tom ‘Iceman’ Kazanski who knows about Mavericks fathers past as a pilot and knows his error caused other pilots to lose there life.

rsz_18

The film also stars Mavericks wingman Nick ‘Goose’ Bradshaw played by Anthony Edwards and Mavericks love interest Charlie Blackwood played by Kelly McGillis who also turns out to be a flight instructor at the flight school. This film has it all in my book Action, Romance, Bromance, awesome quotes and to top it off an awesome soundtrack. Some of the great tunes you can find in this film include Kenny Loggins – Danger Zone, Berlin – Take my breath away and the Top Gun Anthem by Steve Stevens and Harold Faltermeyer you can give it a listen in full on Spotify.

rsz_ray-ban-3025-tom-cruise-top-gun-big.jpg

As for the quotes in the film here are some of my favorites

1. Maverick:- “I feel the need…”

Goose:- “The need for speed!”

2. Stinger: “Maverick, you just did an incredibly brave thing. (Pause) What you should have done was land your plane! You don’t own that plane! The taxpayers do! Son, your ego is writing checks your body can’t cash!”

3. Carole: “Take me to bed or lose me forever.”

Goose: “Show me the way home, honey.”

4. Iceman: “You can be my wingman any time.”

Maverick: “Bullshit! You can be mine.”

5. Maverick, spotting Charlie for the first time:  “She’s lost that loving feeling.”

6. Goose: “No. No, Mav, this is not a good idea.”

Maverick: “Sorry, Goose, but it’s time to buzz the tower.”

7. Maverick, walking into a bar: “This is what I call a target-rich environment.”

8. Jester: “His fitness report says it all. Flies by the seat of his pants, totally unpredictable.”

Viper: “He got you, didn’t he?”

9. Charlie: “You’re not going to be happy unless you’re going Mach 2 with your hair on fire.”

10. Maverick: “You don’t have time to think up there. If you think, you’re dead.”

Bryan Singer Pitches Female Wolverine

rsz_wolverines-182798

So it appears that Bryan Singer is already preparing for life without Hugh Jackaman as Wolverine by pitching the idea of a female Wolverine to Fox. So as we know Jackman is hanging his claws after the third installment of the movie, Singer has revealed in an interview with fandango that he pitched a Fox studios with replacing Jackman with the new female Wolverine Laura Kinney previously X-23.

“I have discussed that with the studio” Singer advised fandango “I actually initially pitched the X-Force and the female”

I’m not 100% convinced that a female Wolverine would work I started reading the comics and did not really connect with the character so stopped after issue 4 as I thought I would give it more of a chance.

Singer also revealed that he has started work on the X-Force movie but it is still just at the ideas stage. He told fandango “Simon Kinberg is the earliest script stage, so that’s kind of where it stands and we’ll see how it evolves”

rsz_1capture

So I was approached by Rob from Hidden Home Records about doing a release on his band Sheep Among Wolves split EP with UK hardcore band CROWN and was only happy to oblige with his request.

Assassins Creed Trailer Review

rsz_assassins-creed-movie-poster

So woke up this morning to be greeted by the official Assassins Creed movie trailer so thought it was a good chance to pop a review up as I have always loved the games and hold out high hopes for the movie. So lets take a leap of faith into what we have learnt from the trailer.

The trailer begins with Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) waking up in a room and we zoom into his eye and we see the first look at him dressed as the Assassin Aguilar and some clips of him jumping across a building gap, stood atop a high building and the scene of what appears to be one huge battle before being taken back in a laboratory with a Doctor looking over him. He ask where he is and the Doctor advises him that at 6pm yesterday evening he was executed and pronounced dead and that he no longer exists.

We then see him walking through a garden and he ask what kind of prison is he in to which the Doctor replies your not in prison we also she the Abstergo logo for the first time while the Doctor explains that he is about to enter Animus. He then learns that what he will see hear and feel will be the memories of his ancestor who has been dead for 500 yeras as he is being told this we see a weapons case with the hidden blades in them.

He asks what the Doctor “What do you want from me” and she answers with “Your past” as we go through the eye once again we see an a great visiual view of a city and an eagle soaring above it and the Doctor saying “Welcome to the Spanish inquisition” we are then treated to some great visuals of fight scenes between the Assassins and soldiers and we also see some great free running sequences that are part of the joy of playing the games.

We then cut back to Abstergo and here Callum quote “We work in the darkness to serve the light, we are Assassins”we also see from the clip that the Animus used in the film is not just a lay down couch but a machine that give Callum free reign to move carrying out what is happening in the memory. At the 1 minute 53 second mark we finally get to see Aguilar take a leap of faith off a Cathedral tower and the trailer comes to an end, words cannot describe how happy I am to see this included in the film and I cannot wait to go and see it on the big screen.
