Check Out ‘Chris Hemsworth’ In These New ‘Ghostbuster’ Photos

ghostbusters_2016_image_004

The newly revamped Ghostbuster website released a handful of new photos including Chris Hemsworth in his secretarial role as the reboots new ‘Janine’.

Hemsworth’s Kevin was last seen in August of last year looking bad-ass in a Ghostbuster-Overalls while riding a dirt-bike suggesting that the character may be doing more than just answering phones. The new photos show the Australian looking more dapper but after Paul Feig agreed to bolster his part in order to entice the Marvel Hero to take the role. I’m sure he will be covered in slime soon enough.

Bridesmaids (2011) Director Feig’s new Ghostbusters will focus on a pair of down-on-the-luck authors Erin Gilbert (Kristen Wiig) and Abby Yates (Melissa McCarthy) who become a laughing-stock after their published work assert that Ghost are real. Of course this being Ghostbusters it isn’t long before those pesky-poltigiest are invading Manhattan at the hands of comedian Neil Casey’s Rowan, and the Proton-Pack wielding heroes are called upon to save the day.

Ghostbusters will also see Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones round up the quartet with Andy Garcia as the Mayor of New York and cameo appearances from the original movies stars Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver and Bill Murray.

Ghostbusters will hit theatres July 15, 2016.

elizabeth banks.png

With Filming set to begin late this month on Saban’s Power Rangers, the announcement that Lionsgate have found their Rita Repulsa for the reboot of the classic 90’s kids show comes in the knick of time.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the story that The Hunger Games favourite and Pitch Perfect 2 Director Elizabeth Banks has signed on the play the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers most feared nemesis and prolific cackler. Banks’ casting confirms that Rita Repulsa will been in the adaptation but little else is known about whether she will be joined by other famous villains such as Goldar, Finster and Lord Zedd.

Banks will star alongside newcomers Dacre Montgomery, Ludi Lin and RJ Cyler with The Martians (2015) Naomi Scott and Singer/songwriter Becky G rounding up the Power Rangers cast.

The reboot will see Jason (Montgomery), Zack (Lin), Billy (Cycler), Kimberly (Scott) and Trini (G) return to the big screen as the bunch of kick-ass teens with attitude who battle an army of invading Alien fiends.

Project Almanac (2014) director Dean Israelite will helm the movie that is expected to hit theatres on March 24, 2017.

The Team Behind ‘300’ Will Bring Robin Hood Into The Future

robinhood

Robin Hood is set to have a few busy years ahead. Not only is the hero and his Band-of-Merry-Men set to star in Disney Live action reimagining, Lionsgate’s Robin Hood: Origins and now the recently announced Robin Hood 2058.

The film, set 40 years into the future, will be produced by The Hollywood Gang, the production company responsible for brining Frank Miller’s visually stunning 300 (2006) to the big screen. The precise story is under-wraps but The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Robin Hood 2058 will be a “futuristic reimagining of Robin Hood” taking place in a “dystopian London with a rogue MI5 agent on a mission to avenge injustice.

British screenwriter and New York Times Bestselling author Tony Lee will helm the script, which Lee ensures will “stay faithful to the legend’s source material.”

With the movie planned for release next year it will see direct competition from Lionsgate’s planned franchise starter Robin Hood: Origins starring Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014) actor Taron Egerton. The film will also see Jamie Fox as Little John and Eve Hewson as Maid Marion in the Otto Bathurst (Black Mirror) directed movie.

‘Hulk’ Will Be More Verbal In ‘Thor: Ragnarok’

hulk

Its safe to say that Marvel’s next Thor film is early days into pre-production but more details continues to leak by way of the director himself Taika Waititi.

In an interview with Hitflix, the What We Do In The Shadows Director discuss the nature of having the Incredible Hulk in Thor: Ragnarok, a character that isn’t the most chattiest of The Avengers. “It’s interesting, because at the moment, there’s a big conversation that’s happening about how far to push that. Whether or not The Hulk should be [verbal/conscious]”, revealed Waititi.

Although he couldn’t confirm that the Green-Guy could become more eloquent, he did confirm that the discussion is on the table. “I think a lot of those conversations have more to do with what’s going to come up in future movies. So I think a lot of those decisions are larger group decisions, rather than anything to do with just me or the writer. They have a lot of stuff that they have to consider. But I do think that’s the best way to track it. I think we all want that. I think we all want to see that development and the evolution of that character. I also think you can do it in a fun way.”

Fun certainly seems to be on Waititi’s mind with the film having been described as a ‘road trip movie’ with Thor and Banner at the wheel. Two characters who have had a building competition between starting back in 2012’s Avengers Assemble.

A Norse-God and a cantankerous Indestructible monster? Sounds like an interesting road trip.

‘Hanna Barbera’ Comics Get A Makeover By DC

sd

Hanna Barbera cartoons have been touchstone for iterations of generations growing up, from the sitcom-antics of The Flintstones to the Horror-lite mis-adventures of The Mystery Inc. Gang in Scooby Doo. Barbara’s properties have seen numerous adaptations on Tv, Film and even Comic books, which now see’s DC about to bring some of our classic heroes into the modern day while retaining all the “Jinkies” and “Yabba-Dabba-Doo’s” of course.

In a story broken by Entertainment Weekly,  Co-publisher of DC Entertainment Dan DiDio outlined the vision that DC has for the Barbera comics:

“From a personal standpoint, I was always a fan of the old Hanna-Barbera characters, having grown up on them,” assured DiDio. “I think what you find right now is there’s so much material on pop culture, and these characters resonate with so much of our fanbase. It was so fun to go out and look at them, but not just bring back versions that existed 40, 50 years ago and really look at it the way of saying, if these characters were created and interpreted today, how would they exist?”

The headlining comic in DC’s slate will be Scooby Doo Apocalypse which gives the impression that the Mystery Inc. Gang will be dealing with more than vengeful Janitors and money-grabbing Hotel Owners. “I’m a huge Scooby Doo fan, as I think most people are,” reveals veteran artist Jim Lee whose work at DC has made him a household name. “All my kids know of Scooby Doo from the various cartoons and live action movies, and we’re in a period where you have people my age that are spending their days thinking about cartoon and sci-fi action movies. It’s a multigenerational obsession at this point, and we just thought it would just be really interesting to take the cartoon version of these characters and see where they would be if we took what existed in the very first iteration of the cartoon and moved it into this day and age.”

Other than the artwork revealed little is known about the comics other than the premises going forward. The Flintstones will remain largely unchanged when compared to Wacky Race Land that undoubtedly has been inspired by the success of last years Mad Max.

DC are even brining their long-history with superheroes into the fray with bringing together Barbera’s various superheroes under one banner. Future Quest will see superheroes like Johnny Quest, Space Ghost, the Herculoids, Birdman and the Galaxy Trio team up to stop various nefarious forces as a Justice League style super-team.

“You’re gonna have an epic adventure in the future stories with Jonny Quest and Space Ghost,” explains DiDio. “You’re going to have a scary, dangerous world in Wacky Raceland that is just as strange and dynamic as you hope it would be. I think Scooby Doo is going to excite people and challenge people, and I think that we’re going to use Flintstones to really bring out that voice and social commentary that they might’ve brought out in the ’60s and raise it back for today.”

Co-Publisher alongside DiDio, Lee just hopes that the new comics “put a smile on people’s faces. I think we think of these characters so much as our childhood, and I want people to kind of embrace these updated versions of the characters and really understand that at the core, these concepts are not just limited to little kids.” With DiDio promising that “when you see what’s going to happen with Scooby and Wacky Races, even if you were cynical about how we approached these things, you’re going to love everything once you see the finished product.”

‘Fast 8’ Heads To Iceland

f8

It seems like the Fast and Furious franchise will continue its globetrotting ways with the latest instalment heading to the frigid landscape of Iceland.

News comes via The Iceland Review where the Mayor of Akrones, Regína Ásvaldsdóttir, informed the locals of the impending film production hitting their town. Stating that “surely, this is an extensive project and will affect retail and service in town,” she also confirmed that production crew would arrive in early April.

Iceland joins as the second location for the eighth Fast and Furious sequel with long-standing franchise mainstay Vin Diesel having already confirmed that New York will also see car-combat hit its streets. The action star also revealed back in November last year that the car and crime series would start generating spin-offs, with the actor stating that “we’ve written out story lines for various characters.”

Diesel has already disclosed in the past that Fast 8 will start a new trilogy of films which will take the franchise to 10 in total. It could also be possible that the next film will also lay groundwork for the spin-offs discussed with new cast members and characters jumping on board to veer off into another Fast and Furious adventure.

Straight Outta Compton (2015) Director F. Gary Gray will take the wheel on the project which is expected to crash onto our screens  April 14, 2017.

Woah, that was a lot of puns.

‘Wonder Woman’ Will Squash Sexism With Humour

gal

In the new issue of Empire Magazine, it was revealed by Wonder Woman leading lady Gal Gardot, that her Diana Prince has experienced much in her life on the account that she is old, very old. Like crazy old.

The former Fast and Furious actress revealed that the 5,000 year old God finds it tough “because she’s seen it all, she has seen what humans can do, so it was very hard for her to come back and fight.”

In DC’s recent big reveal on the CW network. The new trailer for the first live-action Wonder Woman film showcased that a large percentage of the movie will unfold in front of the backdrop of World War I and the modern day.

Producer Deborah Snyder gave an insight into the decision to show a split time perspective in order to showcase the sexism that Diana would have experience across the ages. “Her sexuality is part of her power, but she is also a feminist icon,” explained Snyder. “Gender has been a hot topic, so it is very timely to bring her back.”

Snyder also imparted how the film will combat the rampant sexism through humour: “The way we have approached it, especially in the stand alone movie, that is definitely there. Looking back and doing an origin story – and it is a period piece – see the role of women through history. There is a great source of humour in that now. It is so unbelievable you can’t even fathom it. You are still making a statement, but having some fun with it.”

Gardot also gave an insight into dealing with Wonder Woman’s dual identity, explaining that “they have the same attitude. Although when she is Diana she tries to blend in, she is not too outgoing. I don’t want people to think she is perfect. She can be naughty.”

Wonder Women will be knocking heads together in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, which hits screens March 25. With her solo movie coming after in June 23, 2017.

‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2’ Starts Filming “In A Couple Of Weeks”

gogt2

How long has it been since we’ve seen those lovable rogues, that talking Racoon and a dancing living tree aboard the Milano? Seems like ages doesn’t it, but with Director James Gunn announcing via Twitter that production on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 begins “in a couple of weeks.” We might have to wait a little while yet but at least we have number of information just waiting to leak across the inter-web when shooting finally starts.

Talking of leaks, Gunn seemed to hold back on denying or rebutting spoilers this time around but he did confirm that the recent table read went well, expressing that “our returning cast is even better and our new cast is amazing.”

Gunn even revealed, in response to a fan question, that the post-credit scene had already been written, simply stating that it had been “scripted.”

He even confirmed that an official cast announcement “will be very soon”, meaning that we will get an answer to castings rumours regarding comic-book favourite Mantis.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 is currently scheduled for a May 5, 2017 release.

‘The NXT Review’ For Jan 27, 2016

nxt

Whats up wrestling-peeps. This is The NXT Review and after my disappointment of last week, I’ll say that the yellow brand got back to its feet with a progressive episode. Wow big word.

If last week was all about treading water than this go-around push things forward, laying groundwork for possible future rivalries.

The action got off to quick start with the newly christened American Alpha against the former Tag Champs Blake & Murphy. Now of course the Dub-step loving duo were escorted to ring by the rebel-pixie Alexa Bliss as-per-usual but lets just highlight that without Bliss, these guys would be pretty vanilla heels no? Bliss brings that extra something-something that really makes them pop or sparkle if you would have.

Now I need to fess up that I’m on an amateur wrestling kick at the moment after having watched the fantastically creepy Foxcatcher with ol’ Channing ‘Step Up’ Tatum himself. And boy I’m I looking at some of those moves in a different light. Especially seeing how Jason Jordan and Chad Gable combined their background in the sport with high-flying and eye-catching spots that make the pair an exciting prospect not only for the NXT Tag Team titles but the main roster. These guys are really something special, they sparkle as Bliss would say. Are maybe not given her obvious distain for the pair, I mean that look she gave Jordan at the start of the match. Boy if Pixies could kill, she’d BAMF him all the way home … did that sound dirty?

Nia Jax made her terrifying return to the ring to basically rag doll the petite Liv Morgan. Jax won, big surprise but I can’t help but think that Nia has got that it factor. That TakeOver London match, boy did she make me a believer. Now I don’t want to put the title on her straight away. Lets go the fun route shall we. Maybe even a Karma route of destroying the entire roster of NXT ladies … perhaps without the tears in the ring though. We ain’t got time for tears.

I can’t be alone in wanting the two most dangerous ladies in NXT to meet right? Asuka vs Nia Jax … make it so Regal.

Bull Dempseys back and I’m sorry but I’m not a Bull-levier. Ha Ha … witty. But anywho, Bull-Fit did his Bull-thing and faced up against a returning Alex Riley with longer-darker-hair which of course means. Duh-Duh-Duh … Heel Turn!

Talking of Heel, hello Elias Samson. Now I want to like this guy, I’ve always been a lover of Heels, wrestlers not women’s footwear. But damn does this guy make it hard to cheer for, primarily ’cause this guy is boring. So boring. I need something, anything, add an extra dimension to this drifter character. Don’t just tell me, show me.

The commentators ask themselves “what does Samson bring to NXT”, If you guys dunno, I’m at a lost.

The Triple-Threat Match that has been on everyones mind closed the show but did it live up the hype? I dunno, I enjoyed it fine and if anything it showed that Samoa Joe and Sami Zayn have chemistry when in the ring together but Baron Corbin was pretty much pointless. An annoyance that seemed to scupper the flow of what was clearly Zayn and Joe’s match.

That sounds harsh, which is misleading because I enjoyed the match. Its frickin Zayn and Joe for cry-out-loud but I guess thats my point. A Triple-Threat that could have worked better as a one-on-one competition. Which makes me a fan of that confused ending that I’m in no doubt will lead to another Zayn-Joe face-off.

Now that FTW!

’24: Legacy’ Finds Its Lead

24

Earlier this month the revival, Kiefer Sutherland-less, 24: Legacy received an order for pilot by Fox. Until now however the cast for the series that follows-on from 2014’s mini-series Live Another Day, has remained a tight-lipped secret.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Straight Outta Compton (2015) star Corey Hawkins has been cast in the main role in 24 normally reserved for the long-standing hero Jack Bauer.

Hawkin’s Eric Carter will be former Army Ranger who is described as “strong and smart.” Carter, who is now working for CTU, comes from “a very rough background and turned his life around in the Army Rangers.” Now “back home in Virginia with his wife Nicole, he’s pulled back into action as his past comes looking for him.”

The new series will start filming this winter and will retain its real-time per-hour-episode format. It is yet still unknown the number of episodes the show will receive and whether we will see any old faces returning. Fox’s Dana Walden did tease however, “never say never.”
