Doctor Who SN1 EP1 – ‘The Name Of The Doctor’

Ah, the old black and white, cheesy effects, not-so-great acting of the very first episode of Doctor Who. The first season aired on November 23rd 1963. I am going to give a weekly update and review here of the past episodes. Some of you may have seen them all, and others may have only seen the newer ones from Eccleston on. And there may be some who have never seen it, if this is you, be kind to yourself and go watch it now… Right now.

Ok so on to the review. As mentioned above, the first episodes are in black and white. The props are well, questionable, but given the time and era in which it was made, I guess it’s the best they had. And the effects, oh, the way they had the TARDIS “flying” through space and transporting them to another planet was fantastically corny. The sound of the ship was kind of distorted and almost pitchy, made me wince a little bit. But over all fun just the same.

In the first episode, we meet the Doctor and his granddaughter, Susan Fore. (first female Timelord guys). Now the first impression of our Doctor from the 60s is well, he is old, like really old. And is a little gruff to say the least. He isn’t the fun and goofy doctors some of us have grown accustomed to. In fact he is very mature, wise, and a bit cold, but still carries the aloof and somewhat quirky nature we have grown to know.

In this episode, the granddaughter is followed to the TARDIS by her mentors/teachers, Barbara and Ian, where they encounter the first Doctor himself. They insist she is inside of the TARDIS and they want to see her. The old Doctor acts a bit like he doesn’t know what they are talking about or goes off side from time to time until finally allowing them in the big blue box.

And this is where we get to see for the first time what the Time Machine looked like on the inside… big dots, big dots everywhere, and the middle time console is a bit goofy to say the least, but again, this was the 1960s. And there, standing by the heart of the TARDIS is the granddaughter, Susan, that everyone is in search of. She turns and is shocked that her peers are standing there, and wonders why they have been let in. This leads to some arguing about what is going on, why they are here, and letting them all go. The Doctor seems pretty hellbent that no one is leaving the TARDIS, making arguments that the newcomers know too much, and whisks them all away on the first adventure the TARDIS and crew will see. The show ends after the absolutely wonderfully corny way that they show them traveling through time and space and landing on a planet. There is a shadowy figure that you see against the sand just before the film ends.

Though the effects were very questionable, watching them travel through time with some light over drafts and weird looks on the characters faces, this was just, well, yeah, corny. That the main word I can use I guess. But this was what they had to work with and knowing this, I would say they did pretty good then. I enjoyed the first show and feel they should be watched by all Whovians. Just if anything, to give you the idea and culture from which the most loved, cult following, longest running tv series came from. ^_^

It’s A Me I’m A Hamster Mario!

Ok, don’t let the title fool you. It’s a short video of a Mario Bros set, with a cute fluffy dwarf hamster walking among it, not the hamster actually playing Mario Bros… that’s just silly.

But yes, there is a 38 second super cute fluffiness viral video out there with a hamster, a set and our video game classic music from Mario Bros we all grew up with. Though the hamster may not be going about saving the princess in the most productive way, the little guy does manage to make it to the castle at the end and is able to move on to the next level. (This set has not been built yet). The course he runs in complete with mushroom power, blocks, coins and secret tunnel pipes.

You can watch the brave little guy below and root for him on his way to the flag at the end of the level. And  bring a little smile to your day. They even gave him a little Mario hat!!! ^_^

Godzilla Is To Return From The Deep In A NEW Animated Movie

Tokyo smashing, fire breathing giant lizard we have grown to love has been on the big screen for years. Starting with badly dubbed voiceovers and men crammed in hard to maneuver costumes, 1970s TV cartoon animated series by Hannah Barberra, to 20th century special effects, making him look even more life-like than before.

(So, not either of these guys :p )

Our Kaiju with the attitude is now going to be making his way back to the animated world. And this time not as goofy or corny as the 1970s cartoon. (you know, the one with Godzookie) It appears that the animated artist will be no other than Tokyo’s Polygon Pictures, who are the ones behind such anime as Ghost in the Shell, (nice) and will be more CG animation than hand drawn.

I think this is super fantastic, I am huge Godzilla fan and can’t wait to watch this with my son, who is also a huge fan. We have watched and own every single movie/show out there of him so yeah, we kind of like the big guy. I just hope they keep with tradition and not go with silly ‘let’s make Godzilla our friend’ crap as they did in the old cartoons. I liked those and all too but, this is Godzilla, he needs to destroy and fight monsters…. It’s what he was made to do ^_^

Is A Superman ‘Man Of Steel’ Sequel In The Works?

And ladies all over the world squeal and rejoice! The sound so loud and deafening you can hear it from the highest mountain top….. Ok so maybe that’s an over exaggeration but you get the point.

fangirling_by_bellamira-d6shvdf

It may not be fully confirmed yet, but it does sound like the sequel for the red-caped hottie may be in the workings. Man of Steel first debuted in 2013, becoming a hit in the box office and fans have been waiting for some time now for there to be a part two. Though the movie Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice did not make it so big in the screen monies, the newly released Suicide Squad brought in such a big cash flow that it may have lit a fire under their butts to keep the Superman franchise going.

Fans are curious as to where they may go with the story as well.

(SPOILERS)

We know that in the Dawn of Justice movie, the world has come to grieve the death of the blue super dude, and we know he will be returning in the Justice League as announced at SDCC, alongside the Flash, Aquaman, Batman, and Wonderwoman. But what will the story be for when the solo sequel is brought to life? Will the Superman in the Justice League movie be a clone or robot like in the comics, thus being discovered in the end of Justice League? This could bring a new story for the sequel for sure, plus maybe give an opening for Supergirl to make her debut in the DC movie world….

Well, this my friends is exciting to think about. If you know your comics then I’m sure you to have your own thoughts and speculations as to what the sequel may hold. I would love to hear your ideas as well. But until then, I know I will be anxiously awaiting to hear more, and hopefully confirm the filming of the solo sequel. ^_^

John Schaech Of ‘Legends Of Tomorrow’ Wants To Play Wolverine

Let’s just get this out there, I don’t think anyone could accept anyone else playing the role accept for Hugh Jackman. He has owned this role for so long, and I have mad respect for this actor who actually stuck with it. No matter how small or big his part, he has always been a part of the X-Men universe and always been the Wolverine.

But there was an announcement by the actor John Schaech, while being interviewed at the Heroes and Villains convention, that he would like to play the part of the X-Man with the anger problems: “If I could play any character, it’d be Wolverine.” Apparently Jackman’s Wolverine inspired Mr. Schaech to start acting. Interesting wouldn’t you think?

John Schaech will be returning this next season of Legends of Tomorrow, his role being again that of the mangled-faced gunslinger Jonah Hex. Which, if you ask me, is perfect for him. Jonah kind of has his own attitude problems and will be good practice for future roles should there ever be a need to redo the Wolverine genre. ^_^

‘A Star Is Born To Be Remade With Lady Gaga And Bradley Cooper

I am going to start by saying, my mom is not going to like this. Hollywood is remaking yet another oldie-but-goodie film, A Star Is Born, and I am sure my mother is going to be ranting about this when she finds out lol.

The remake is said to have Lady Gaga play the leading lady with her gentlemen attraction and love being the great Bradley Cooper. And it seems that besides staring in the classic, Mr. Cooper will be making his debut as the director as well. Way to double up there Coop. Let alone this will be the first role for Gaga where she stars as the lead for the whole movie. No pressure there… She can handle it for sure though.

bradley-cooper-is-courting-lady-gaga-for-a-star-is-born-remake

The original version of the movie starred Kris Kristofferson and Barbara Streisand. The movie came out on December 17th, 1976, bringing in $80 million in box office payout.  The story line is that of a rising star who has a bit too much fright of the stage and falls in love with her mentor. He not only teaches her the wonders of life and love, but brings her out of her shell even though his time in the spotlight is waning. A wonderful movie for sure and should be seen at least once (ladies, bring your tissues…

The remake is said to have a couple of its own songs recorded by Gaga and will start production early next year. Hopefully they stick to the original story on this one. No need to change what was already perfect, if you ask me. But since Hollywood seems to be in a remake roll at the moment, they better just remake as is and not try to change it up. This movie has been remade two other times already.  ^_^

Reports That The Superman Front Curl To Be In The Justice League Movie Are Misleading

So, my overenthusiastic self was about to rant and rave about the trademarked “S” curl on the front of Cavill’s head in the next Justice League movie… until a colleague pointed out to me that this information was a fake, which I am really thankful for, because then I too would have been up there with all the others posting an untruth.

It would seem that according to a heroichollywood.com the new image leaked is not from Justice League at all, but actually from Batman vs Superman. The image from an instagram person @travelheart who used two hashtags that lead us to believe this was from the set… #batmanvssuperman and #justiceleague.  After a journalist decided to find out more on the image, he “dug a little bit and discovered that her husband played Superman Soldier” and this is where the image came from. Not from the movie at all……

Too bad really, I mean, would have been great to see Cavill be rocking the “S” the time he is on screen, but then again, I would love to see if they have him with the longer mullet look like Superman has in the comics when he first comes back to life. He has been seen recently with his hair in ‘mantail’ on the back of his head, not sure if this is for the movie or because he feels like growing it out some, but he looks like a totally bad-arse with it I think. ^_^

‘Avengers Infinity War’ May Feature New Characters

infinity-war

If you have been following the Marvel Universe on the big screen, then you may have noticed a trend when it comes to the way they introduce new characters, and that’s in the movie itself, be it in the end after the credits with a piece of the characters costume, or a cameo appearance… And it sounds like we may have another character fall in love with in the Infinity War movie.

The Russo Bros, Joe and Anthony, have been working on the Infinity War and Avengers 4, shooting them back to back, and they have even teased that there may be a little more people for us to ‘marvel’ over (like what I did there?) and so far with each movie they have left people at the edge of their seats, talking and wondering what they will do next and with whom will they bring in. With the last movie, Captain America: Civil War, they gave us the Black Panther and Spiderman. In other movies we met Scarlet Witch (I seriously considered being Scarlet Witch this year for comic con) her brother Quicksilver, and Bucky from Captain America: Winter Soldier, plus our main men starting with the first Iron Man back in 2008.

Although they are keeping hush about who they may bring to life this time, they are informing us that this movie Infinity War is supposed to be the climax of the stories so far, and a new beginning which brings the new characters. Anthony Russo tells IGN: “…these two movies are intended to be the culmination of everything that has happened in the MCU since the very first Iron Man movie.”

c1871e4068ddddf4c05364ba575f4867

The Marvel/Avengers world is huge. In the comics it seems at least everyone in there has been an Avenger at least once, including Wolverine, Hercules, Beast, Hellcat, Thing, and so on. We have do have Ant-Man now in Civil War, makes you wonder if his lady friend the Wasp will show up….. I mean they did tease her in the Ant-Man movie…..hmmmm. ^_^

Scott Eastwood To Frontline In Sci-Fi Flick ‘Ecstasia’

download

If you don’t know who Scott Eastwood is, well then you have been under a rock my friend. This man is not only very nice on the eyes but well known for his roles in Suicide Squad, Texas Chainsaw, The Longest Ride, and to be in the coming film Fast 8, let alone he is a model… yum!

Ecstasia‘ is a story about a couple who live in a world were love no longer exists (WHAT!?!) and the couple are focused on their last days of love before it fades away. (Um no, I don’t know if I can watch this one, I mean, no love… so not a chick flick here…) So in the script, you can buy love from a process called Commitment, the couple buy some of this, which is a chip called Ecstasia. A micro chip that helps you feel love…. Goodness this is interesting.

The production is supposed to take place next spring in Africa, and will meet with some possible buyers at the next film festival. There doesn’t seem to be a whole lot out yet on this project or more in the story line, but for now, I am really on the fence about this one. Could be an edge of your seat-er, with the couple trying desperately to stay in and feel love, so I guess it may be more chick flick-y than I was thinking earlier… But it does have Eastwood Jr in it, and he is pretty so it may make this worth watching. ^_^

Jared Leto Feels Misled In His Role As The Joker

joker-in-suicide-squad-1024x517.png

OK wow, could there be any more issues people have with this movie? I mean, the movie was really good, so why is there so much negative stuff following it? I guess now Jared is feeling upset still about more to do with the movie.

032616_Jared-Leto-joker

Besides the previous issues about the deleted scenes and a fan actually suing Warner Bros for this, now Leto is feeling like he was misled about the idea of what he was getting into. The story they told him was not what it turned out to be. First off he thought it was supposed to be more artistic, and secondly his role as the Joker, as revealed in previous interviews, was a lot smaller that what he was originally pitched. Which I can understand some of his frustration, he was reported to say he felt “overwhelmed by the hate regarding the look and choices” while being questioned at his adult summer camp, Camp Mars.

picture-of-jared-leto-the-joker-photo

Though there seems to be so much drama with this movie, it was still really really good in my opinion. And I know there are so many out there who were all negative about it but really, can’t this all lay to rest at some point. The fact that there is someone out there suing WB over this seems to be a bit excessive if you ask me… and Leto honey, just let it go, I mean you are so big as is, forget this crap and move on luv. I may not be in the acting business, but I do know that if it’s not going to kill you then you should probably not stress about it so much. The world is open for a man of his status, so enjoy the future and let go of the past. Besides he hasn’t even seen the movie yet… he may realize it’s still really freaking good. ^_^
