Meet Venom-Pool ! The Crazy Combination of Venom and Deadpool, Argh *RUNS AWAY*

AAAAH!! Ok lets just start with how freaking awesome and scary this would be. I mean you have Deadpool, who is crazy, cant die, heals, super bad arse with the swords and guns, and insatiable love for the chimi… and add a Venom symbiote suit to him, which is pure evil…… oh dear lord help us all.

*screams and runs away*

This was announced at San Diego Comic Con, which if I was there (someday) I would have totally freaked. I guess this was  launched as part of Deadpool: Back in Black, which is a five part comic mini series starring you-know-who, none other than our amazing smartmouthed, funky Deadpool: missionary of justice. (what the a$$!!)

The series is said to take place in the 80s, right after the Venom suit is rejected by Peter Parker and left alone. Now Deadpool knows the suit from an encounter with it in the Secret Secret series, so the symbiote seeks him out after a group of bounty hunters tries to capture it. The series will be written by Cullen Bunn, who is also the author of the Secret Secret series, and illustrated by artist Salva Espin (the Deadpool Killogy.)

So. Many. Deadpools.

While doing the research for this, I found there were other comics done already of the Venom/Deadpool combo some time ago. These were known as the “What If” series (and now I must own these too lol.) These series had a bunch of fun tales of Deadpool mixed or in league with other beings in alternate fantasies. Super fun, right??

There are those who would argue that this could never happen… Wade Wilson has the healing agent like Wolverine, so it would seem his body would reject the Symbiote and the combination could never take place. Well, I would argue that this is the comics, anything is possible, right? Regardless, I feel this series, though short, will be wonderful to read. And I personally I can’t wait to get my hands on them. In the mean time though, folks, I will be getting my hands on the ‘what if” series, and goodness knows what else.

Will The Flash Appear In Suicide Squad?

The Suicide Squad is made up of some of the greatest villains known to DC and most belong to Batman (honesty, I think the most popular ones everyone knows are Batman villains…) Yet there is one bad guy, Captain Boomerang, that fights mainly our super speedy, red-suited crusader… So you cant help but wonder: does this mean we may see a blur of The Flash in the film like we get to of the Dark Knight? (TINGLES!)

So there were some rumors that The Flash may make a “quick” appearance in the movie, considering one of the villains, and it seems this rumor is true. At the recent San Diego Comic Con, they showed a preview of the movie, showing the origins of Captain Boomerang and there is a scene where he is robbing a bank. In this scene we see a flash of lightning, much like we would see in the TV series when Flash arrives on the scene. OOOOOOH!!!! Also, EZra Miller is rumored to play the roll of the scarlet speedster.

Goodness, Justice League and The Suicide Squad… Now I know more people love the Marvel universe more than DC. But this girl is more DC than Marvel simply because I grew up being in love with Superman. (My first crush was Christopher Reeve…) No guessing my age guys J So this is so exciting!! And I love crossovers. Being into comics and the like, we see there are infinite possibilities out there with other worlds and interchangeable story lines. GAAAAH luv luv luv. Can’t wait to see what other surprises may be in store for us with the DC universe and movies ^_^

He-Man And The Masters of the Universe… RETURNS???

After 20 years, He-Man will return to home viewing system. How crazy is that? This show was beloved by many in the 80s and even had its own cult following,… (Just kidding… or am I?) Well, it seemed that way when everyone (including me) owned something He-Man related.

Ok, so in case some of you don’t know, (and if you don’t, I’m sorry, but your childhood was sad) He-Man was about a prince named Adam in a land called Eternia, who rocked a pink vest, purple pants, and blonde pageboy haircut. Eternia was constantly under attack by the evil Skeletor and his minions. What no one knew is that Adam had an alter ego called He-Man. He was able to transform from a pale, brightly-colored dresser into this super tan, speedo-wearing, muscle-bound dude with a much deeper voice (which, by the way, is super sexy)… he was able to achieve this transformation by a raising magical sword aloft and yelling the phrase “BY THE POWER OF GREY SKULL!!”

He would also be able to change the appearance of his cowardly green tiger, Cringer, (I had a Siamese named after him!) into a badass called Battle Cat who wore red armor on his head and an armored saddle for He-Man on his back, and his voice also changed (did I forget to mention Cringer could talk? …sorry, he could talk…) This was how He-Man got around when he needed to travel and kick some bad guy booty.

  

This wonderfully cheesy show first aired in 1983 and was cancelled in 1986 after only two seasons. It had a spin off called She-Ra, which was a story about Adam’s twin sister Adora, who lived in another dimension after being kidnapped as an infant. She too has a magic sword that she raises to transform, becoming She-Ra, yelling her own slightly different version of He-Mans’ maxim: “FOR THE HONOR OF GREY SKULL!!” She can change her horse spirit into a unicorn/pegasus (also known as an alicorn) named Swift Wind. (She-Ra’s show was equally cheesy but I loved every episode)

In my day, this creature was called a UniPeg, but now apparently it’s called an Alicorn….. Thanks My Little Pony….

 

They made a movie of He-Man in 1987, starring Dolph Lundgren as He-Man and Frank Langella as Skeletor. This movie failed, receiving bad ratings and reviews. (I saw this movie once, and honestly they were basing it off of a cheesy TV show of the 80s… not sure what they were expecting back then, but maybe if they remade it now, I don’t know, with today’s technology, maybe it would work? Hell, they are remaking EVERYTHING else from the 80s these days, so why not?)

Cartoon Network attempted to remake this series back in 2002, but I never watched these. In fact, I boycotted it altogether since it looked weird as hell to me and I wasn’t about to go there with a child hood fav (I believe at that time they also redid Transformers the cartoon show as well….. but I cant remember for sure) This series didn’t last long either. What is it about the He-Man that causes failure in the TV market?

So here it is, 2016, and they are bringing it back again… this time by the Super7 team, and has been aired at San Diego Comic Con on Wednesday 20^th. I watched the trailer (Which you can find by clicking right here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zatw9jgnylo) and it looks exactly like the original episodes that aired in the 80s. The change, of course, being the voices you hear. But other wise pretty much the same. Even bad acting voiceovers.

I also came across a video of someone who took recorded the first episode at Comic-con and, well, yes I watched it. It was a little hard to hear from my phone, and it was from someone who took the video from their seat, so the screen is moving a bit but you get the idea of what the story was about. But I was surprised when I watched the show. Honestly when I saw the trailer, I thought they were just cutting and pasting voiceovers into old clips from the 80s TV show, and that when the new TV show actually aired the cartoon would look different… but no, they made the animation the same! Crazy!! I did enjoy this episode, kinda brought back memories of being little, eating cereal in front of the TV… but it kind of messed with the brain when the voices were all different. But it was still cheesy, which I loved! (Oh and SPOILERS, they used the word NINCOMPOOP!!! AAAAAHHHH the body tingles are great, my friends!!)

So where will they go with this? Are they going to continue to bring the 80s animation with a 21st century twist? Will they bring back all the great and not-so-creative characters (like Many-Faces, Faker, and Clawful?) And will it actually last longer than two seasons this time? Well, I feel that Super7 team have a lot to live up to and triumph over, considering they have 30 years of downs against them, and those of us who loved the series will be watching with a scrutinizing eye. But whatever happens, it will be fun watching these to see where it goes. ^_^

Delay In The Doctor Who Series!! OH NOOOOOO!!!

Yes, my fellow Whoivians, you heard right. There will be yet another delay in the series we love so much. According to mirror.co.uk, the next series won’t be until spring of next year!! Whoa, what???? What about the Christmas episode? Will we have to wait for this as well? Is it me, or does it seem to take forever for another season to start with Doctor Who?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

I guess this is the last season for Chief Boss Steven Moffat, so he is wanting a big finale for his last time with the show. Plus this will allow the BBC to air the show on Sundays again. According to cultbox.co.uk, whose post was just updated this month, Peter Capaldi will continue to be the Doctor at least until the Christmas special in 2017, but they’re not sure if he will be with the new director, Chris Chibnall.  Filming did begin, however, on June 20, 2016.  Too bad they won’t be ready for us by September…… of this year…. Just sayin’…

Trust me, Doctor, I’m not pleased about it either…

So there will still be 12 episodes of the new season, and they will start after the Christmas special of 2016. Thank goodness there will still at least be a Christmas special for this year… I was going to cry. Then by the following Christmas special in 2017, we may or may not have a new Doctor….

Dang…… so much change, my poor anxiety can’t handle it all…. AAHHH! Ok, just kidding. This is pretty exciting news. And there won’t be as many two-part episodes as last year. (I am happy for this, hate waiting a whole week to find out what the hell happened lol! ) Hopefully these next 12 episodes won’t disappoint (like they could anyway, right??) and Mr. Moffat does go out with a bang, paving a new road for the next Chief Boss Mr. Chibnall to make his entrance.

‘Flatliners’ Remake… With Kiefer Sutherland!!

 

The original Flatliners came out in 1990, starring Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon, William Baldwin, Oliver Platt, and Kiefer Sutherland. These five play a group of medical students who consent to kill each other (from a medical and scientific perspective) and bring each other back to life. This is due to the obsession (or “interest,” as one of the characters huffily corrects another) with what happens when life is extinguished, and if there is actually anything after death. They each relive something that they view as a kind of sin from their past… and their guilt haunts and literally chases them throughout the movie.

(WARNING!! SPOILERS AHEAD!!)

Sutherland’s Nelson

Kiefer Sutherland’s character, Nelson, is the death-curious and fame-obsessed medical student who initiates this venture and convinces his classmates to assist him. The other four students take a bit of convincing, but they come around after a bit of coercion from Nelson. Nelson is the first to be killed and revived, and has nothing negative to say about his experience. Throughout the film, he pushes the others to explore more and more dangerous stretches of experimenting with brain-death and discovering what happens after life is extinguished. Once supernatural experiences start happening to the individual members of the group, angry blame is placed squarely on Nelson because he neglected to warn the others of the consequences of going under. At the end of the film, Nelson’s guilty conscience drives him to the edge of insanity, and he becomes convinced that the only way to “atone for his sins” is to die… again… ohh boy.

Modern Remake

Of course, Hollywood is remaking this film… in 2017. it seems all movies are remakes nowadays. And why not? I mean, they are remaking other classics: Ghostbusters, TMNT, Poltergeist, Total Recall, Pete’s Dragon, Annie… I wonder if they have simply run out of ideas in Hollywood or figure that with today’s technology, they should blow every thing up…. Who knows.

Ok, so we know they are remaking the Flatliners movie (directed by Niels Arden Oplev, written by Ben Ripley), this time starring Ellen Page, Nina Dobrev, Diego Luna, James Norton and Kiersey Clemons, among others. And it is rumored that Kiefer Sutherland is committed to the remake!! Schedules were worked out so Kiefer can do his TV series “Designated Survivor” and the film at the same time.  According to slashfilm.com, “he would play a seasoned doctor, but not sure if there will be any relation to the characters yet.”

So Now, Theory Time!

Will the filmmakers reference the original or build upon the original story? If Kiefer Sutherland does return in the remake, will he be an older version of the original Nelson? Will Sutherland’s character wish for the new generation to continue his experimental work, or possibly verify the original group’s findings, or help them deal with their own personal trauma? Or, possibly, will he be made into a brand new character? Will be a teacher or an authority figure for the new students who wish to experiment with death? Will he assist the new group of medical students in the new film in their near-death experiences, or tell a cautionary tale against it because of what he and his classmates experienced in the original??

Though I am not for all the remakes they are doing in Hollywood, I am curious as to what they will do with the remake; will they make it darker and scarier than the first? More blood? Gore? Change the story completely as they have with other movies (like Ghostbusters, for example.) Either way, I will have to see it. After all, I did enjoy the first one, so seeing the remake is a must.

Maggie Sawyer To Appear In ‘Supergirl,’ Season Two??

Yes, dear readers, it is rumored that Maggie Sawyer will be in the second season of Supergirl!!! And to those of you who do not know of this awesome lady, she is the first openly gay character to appear in the comics, way back in 1987.

WHO IS SHE??

Maggie Sawyer was created by John Byrne in 1987, and is normally found in DC comics alongside either Superman or Batman. She works in both the Metropolis Special Crimes Unit dealing with Metahumans, and in the Gotham City Police Department. (Busy woman I guess) And her partner is …. Batwoman!! (WHOA!!) Way to go Maggie!

OK, when Maggie appears in the Superman comics, she is a thorn in his side. She doesn’t trust Superman and feels that the police are better equipped than he is to deal with trouble. (Yeah ok, he is super-human, made of steel, and the police department is not…. Um….. my bet is on the metahuman…) She even tries to apprehend him at one point, I guess, which to me seems extremely funny. I mean, hi, this is Superman, Man of Steel! Does the phrase “more powerful than a locomotive” not say anything to how almost impossible it would be for a mere “human” to apprehend him??? But for some reason she tries and of course, fails. But, she warms up to him when he saves her life from terrorist plot.

 

Who Will Play Miss Maggie?

According to ‘The Hollywood Reporter‘, they have cast Floriana Lima (even though she’s obviously not a blonde) from The Family to play our lesbian leading lady. Besides The Family, she also had parts in episodes of the Terminator, How I Met Your Mother, My Own Worst Enemy, Ghost Whisperers, Melrose Place, House, Franklin and Bash, and many more TV shows. Seems like she has lots of experience in this field, so I hope she will be good for the show. She is very pretty too so this will be hot!! 😉

Bring on the Crossovers!!

 Now, knowing that the producer of Supergirl is Greg Berlanti, there is a pretty good chance, I’m sure, that she will be in other shows as well. He is the producer of shows like The Flash, Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow.  Let alone she works with Metahumans and is originally from Star City; both the term and place are found in The Flash series too, so I’m thinking there may be plenty of crossovers here. (Let’s not forget, The Flash and Supergirl did work together in an episode of Supergirl, titled “World’s Finest.”) Greg Berlanti feels its important to have changed the ethnicity and sexuality in the DC characters to reflect present day. And I’m sure I’m not alone in thinking that this is pretty awesome.

Being a pretty big fan of the super peeps, (yes, even the Supergirl movie) I am very excited to see what season two has for us. I hear there is supposed to be a showing of Superman himself finally *SHRIEKS* and now to have Maggie Sawyer…! This season will be awesome. (Plus, I heard there may be a cameo of Lynda Carter !!!) So yes, season two cant get here any faster for my taste  ^_^

Tony Stark… Adopted!!? Who Is Iron Man’s Old Man?

(Disclaimer: I had to do some research on this piece from the internet and if any of this is not true, please be kind and leave nice notes, or maybe help to update the internet?) I did,  however, buy some of the comic books, but unfortunately I was unable to purchase them all due to the store not having them, so I was only able to read some of the actual story. This is very torturous, I might add. But that just means I need the rest, which means more comics, which is always a plus.)

Tony Stark is the son of Howard and Maria Stark, and has been since the creation by Stan Lee, as far as I know. But now there is a story that has erupted on the nerd scene, sourced from a comic that came out October 27^th 2013, stating that Tony Stark is …. Adopted!! WHAT!?!?! And universes are turned upside down…

     

Origins

Ok, let’s start with the new story: according to the comic, Maria and Howard were expecting a child, yet the pregnancy was not going so well for the couple. There were complications that were threatening the unborn child’s life. Howard went searching across the universe in hopes to find a cure. He then came upon Recorder 451, a member of a race of robotic life forms created by the Rigellians, (who also, just side note, play a role in the X-Men universe regarding the death of Jean Grey and also have associations with She-Hulk) to save him from the Greys ((source: comic book: Iron Man vol. 5 #10)) … the Marvel Universe is so huge and interconnected!!

Recorder 451 had seen potential in the Earth and wanted to colonize, but needed a minion to do so… Howard’s unborn son would be perfect for this. The robot agrees to help, and thus the engineering of the baby (who would later be named Arno), for the purpose of saving his life, starts. (Now mind you, Arno is engineered to be smart and such, unlike our amazing Tony who was born naturally brilliant… just saying.) Ok, jumping quickly through the story, Howard finds out that 451 set some sort of killswitch to activate when child hits puberty, then figures out a way to disarm this by implanting something into Maria. This plan which works, they save child, 451 sees all is well and leaves earth… but this happiness is short lived. Infant Arno becomes sick and a doctor tells the couple the baby will not be able to survive without machine support. Worried that 451 would find out that he tampered with the alien work, the couple decides to hide Arno in the Maria Stark Foundation, in hopes he will never be discovered. They then decide to adopt a child and present him as the genetically engineered offspring. Enter Tony Stark.

Off the Track

OK so, if you are comic book nerd or just love the Stark, you probably are aware of the other Arno storylines out there; One being he is the first cousin once removed, ((source: comic book: Machine Man #2,)) another being he is the nephew of Tony ((source: mentions from the Marvel wikia,)) or possibly Tony’s half brother ((source: Iron Man 2012 #1)) plus many others that the true comic book nerds may know about. And each one has their own convoluted story, and if I go down any of these routes, this article will become a novel instead! So the one we are focusing on is the story of the adoption, so maybe another time….

 

Who is Arno Stark?

According to this particular story, Arno is the biological son of Maria and Howard Stark. He grew up in the Maria Stark Foundation, and is being kept alive by an iron lung, with a supposed incurable disease… (yeah right… comic books are rewritten and reconnected frequently, so we know this will not last long.) According to the comic he looks nothing like Tony Stark, (which is weird, since Tony looks like Howard Stark, just saying) But anyway, Arno is as brilliant as Tony, or almost, since his was engineered by alien technology. Arno does use a suit called the MMXX, which he pilots alongside Tony in his Iron Man suit.

 

How Tony Finds Out

In the future, Tony is on a space voyage and meets Recorder 451, who tells him of his supposed origins and alien DNA, and forces him to pilot the Godkiller suit. Tony returns to Earth, confused, as he was unable to make the suit work. Then does his research to find out he was adopted, and there is a real biological son of Howard and Maria out there. He of course goes to the Foundation, meets the real son (Arno) and they figure they can put their amazing brains together and save the world. (Sure… why not? You got it, right?)

What Does This Mean for the Movies????

As we know, Robert Downy Jr., who plays the beloved Iron Man, does not plan on being in the suit forever. In fact he is contracted for maybe three more movies, but one of them is not Iron Man 4. ((source: http://www.slashfilm.com/iron-man-4/))  What of Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark? Will the filmmakers try to kill him off? Will he just retire and maybe show up in future films in cameo roles? Or will there be a sort of battle of brother vs. brother later? (In the comic series when Arno is Tony’s cousin, Tony has to fight him… so, maybe a familial grudge match is possible?) Or are they even going to run with this? I mean, this didn’t come from Stan Lee himself, so will they allow the comic written by a different author to be part of the Marvel movies? Stan Lee has his cameo is every movie, so he may not want to be in one universe that he didn’t write. Does this new story line leave open the possibility for them to pass the torch to a new star to play Iron Man? Indeed it does! Especially in ways one does not expect!!

Yes, this is real!! (Google it!)

But we do know that there are so many openings for this franchise… so I guess whatever Robert Downey Jr. and Marvel want to do will work one way or another.

 

Who Could be Tony’s True Parents??? (this is the fun idea part of the story)

((Fellow nerds, don’t hate on me! This portion is entirely speculative, and mostly just for fun.))

Could Tony’s father be Warlock? Could he have a possible relationship to Star-Lord? (I think this will fit in with the story line of Avengers: Infinity Wars. Plus, cousin Arno hangs out with the Guardians of the Galaxy at one point, so makes you wonder if they will still do so with brother Arno… I mean the link could fit.)

What about Professor X?  They both have a brilliant mind, but the Professor is compassionate and caring, kind of not like our Tony Stark, who is egotistical and a play boy…. Nope.

Hank Pim? The original Ant Man? Could he be the real father?  Genius, old, no kids that we know of. He could have had a fling with some chick when he was younger before his waspy wife, and she may have had the child without him knowing. Let’s not forget his genius, this man built the Ant Suit! (Sure, he may have been blonde but his mystery lady could have had dark hair…)

Norman Osborn? He could be old enough, if this theory takes place in the same timeline. He’s a mechanical genius, he built the Goblin Suit, weapons and the Glider… Could he have been a play boy at younger age? Once again, a mystery lady may have had Tony and given him up for adoption, or maybe was paid to do so by either Norman or his family so they could cover the scandal… OOOOH, yeah that one could be fun. Could totally see this one happening. Might get more ladies to read this one if there is some scandalous material lol.

Sir Patrick Stewart…Country Singer?

When one hears the name Patrick Stewart, what is the first thought that comes to mind? X-Men, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Excalibur, or even Pagemaster? How about country music classic singer??? Hmm…. Yup I would never have thought this either, but here he is, singing country music. And not just any type of country music, old classics…. Um ok…

First off, what is it with the cast of Star Trek singing? I mean you have William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, and now Patrick Stewart. What is the link that causes these actors to be singers as well? Is there some unspoken or unknown covenant of the trekkies that states, “once you have filmed, you must sing”??? Well, whatever it is, it seems to be contagious because they have infected our beloved Patrick. And to unfortunately, he is singing country music. (I’m sorry to those who like this stuff, but for me… I just can’t handle it.)

                              

There is a pretty funny infomercial that advertises these musical workings of Sir Patrick Stewart, he sings songs such as El Paso, Rawhide, Buttons and Bows, and others… Plus he is wearing major cowboy-up clothing!! AAAHHHH… sorry freaked out for a moment. OK OK OK… back to reality.

I will admit, he has a really good voice, and when he is singing these songs (though I may not like the idea of it) he does deliver the essence that is the country classics. And I may also admit, that one of them might have stuck in my head for an annoying 24 hours, unfortunately. But I did enjoy watching the infomercial. I mean come on, this is Patrick Stewart, singing country western, dressed as a cowboy. How freaking adorable right?

I also had a giggle when they promoted the country Christmas CD as well. LOL!

                                      

They advertise that he duets with other country singers such as Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, and Sunny Ozell (who ever that is)…And guess what I did, I looked for these songs that he sings with the two ladies I do know, (Swift and Underwood) but found no songs. (but I did however find something about Sir Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen reciting Taylor Swift’s song Bad Blood, it was something on twitter so I am not sure what was going on. If you know please enlighten me!)

                                                 

OK all kidding aside, there is a website you can visit called PSTewSings.com where you can download 5 of the sample songs and all proceeds go to International Rescue Committee. So I guess he may have done this for fun and a good cause.

What did we learn from this? One: being on Star Trek means there is some singing career in there for you. Two: Sir Patrick Stewart looks cute in country clothing. Three, you don’t have to be from Texas to sing the classics… in fact anyone can sing country music, you don’t need talent for that ^_^  (just kidding)

                                                     

Suicide Squad Gear At Hot Topic

If there is one movie this summer that has me tickled all over with excitement and anticipation, it’s The Suicide Squad. The casting of Will Smith as Dead Shot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Ben Affleck as Batman, and Jared Leto as The Joker… Oh my goodness ladies and gentlemen, we are in for a great ride. Such an awesome movie coming out also means awesome merchandise, and one store I can count on for amazing products is the Hot Topic at the Valley River Center mall here in Eugene, Oregon.

If you have a Hot Topic in your town, then I am sure you have visited there at least once or twice (or they may know you by name) and you understand the awesomeness that is Hot Topic and their merchandise. You know that when it comes to all things nerd, music, movies, TV shows and so much more, they have what you need – and once again they have succeeded in producing that which most others do not sell or offer.

I ventured to the Hot Topic here on Monday, the 4th, to see what wonders they had in store. I was there a little early and waited patiently for them to open their doors. (I love being early to store openings. Something about it gives me adrenaline rush, like I will be the first one to see this… even though I am sure someone else probably saw this stuff yesterday, but hey, I may be a little neurotic LOL!) Once the big double doors were opened by the awesome store clerk Sarah, I at first got a little sidetracked because they were also doing their Hot Mess sale: shirts and items being $3.99 and up… those boxes were right there in the front so you know I had to look in them, just to see if there was something in my size at such a great deal that I had to own… But unfortunately, I ended up with nothing from that spot. Oh well. Anyway, I spoke with Sarah the clerk and informed her that I was writing a blog about the new clothing line from them, and she was more than happy to allow me the chance to play dress up in the dressing room with the Suicide Squad gear and take pictures. YAY!!

I looked around and sure enough, there on the back wall was the shirt Harley Quinn herself wears in the Suicide Squad movie. Well you guessed it, I requested the Harley Quinn shirt and donned a pair of red and black heart-shaped sunglasses, then ventured in to the dressing room. (Now, I only tried on a couple of clothing items to take pictures in just because there were things I didn’t feel comfortable taking selfies in and posting on this site… at least not appropriate LOL!) But the baseball tee and the glasses… Yes my friend, that had to happen.

Ok, so here below are a couple of pictures of the amazing clothing I tried on. (Please don’t laugh at the shorts and socks, this was the 4th of July and I was rocking my fireworks long socks in the pictures… so yeah.)

 

OK let me tell you, I am in loooooooove with the shirt and glasses. I wanted to buy them right then and there, but I did not have the $26 dollars at the time to purchase the awesome shirt and the glasses (well, I have to wear my glasses all the time, I don’t own contacts, so they would serve no real use for me at the moment other than to make my heart sing…  But the security device attached to the glasses was poking me in the eye while taking pictures! LOL I was trying to hide it from view, so although I may look super cool, I was in so much pain!) But I do have one of the Hot Cash cards that is good starting on Thursday and will venture back then to purchase the shirt, and get $15 dollars off with a purchase of $30 dollars or more. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!

After exiting the dressing room, I handed the clothing back to the amazing Sarah, sad I could not leave with these babies today, and wandered to the merchandise stand in the back of the store with all the other Suicide Squad gems. There were belts, hats, t-shirts, undies, jewelry… my goodness, so much wonderful stuff. I could hardly contain my excitement rummaging through the stand. Now normally, Hot Topic would have all this neatness on display in the front of the store, but they were still receiving merchandise and having a different sale going on at this time, so that why the stand was in the back.

One thing I noticed is that most of the stuff was focused around Harley, which makes total sense. I mean, look who is playing her! Margot Robbie! Yes hello, YUM! I am focused on her too, just sayin’. She is one of the main reasons I can’t wait to see the movie. She is soooooo pretty!!!! ^_^

Now I was with my two wonderful kiddos at the time who were wanting something cool from the Hot Topic, and (like a sucker) I said yes and they both picked up a little something each. I grabbed a little Harley Quinn souvenir myself, the little bow tie in the picture below and headed to the counter.

The wonderful clerk Sarah was so helpful and made my awkward questions not so painful. (I don’t go around interviewing that many people, or any people for that matter, so this was a little different for me.) I had asked if the merchandise was leaving just as quick as it was coming in, and she replied with an affirmative. I asked her if she was excited for the new movie this August and if she was going to see it, and she replied that she wanted to see it for sure, but she had little ones and that makes it hard to get out to the movies sometimes… but her son is into Batman, which of course is awesome. (My son is into Batman, too ^_^ )

After we finished the transactions and chatted for a bit, I gave her the Skatronixxx website info so she can look for the article and clothing pictures, and she then gave me the information for their Facebook page which I will link here (in case anyone wants to know what the inside of Eugene, Oregon’s Hot Topic looks like. Similarities Between Teen Wolf The 1985 Movie And Teen Wolf The Television Series

One is a tv show from the 80’s, ones a tv show from now. They share a title and werewolves but how similar are they? Let’s find out!

The Intros

The Main Guys / Different Worlds

Scott is a typical nerdy, awkward teenager who lives with a single parent, who just can’t seem to fit in at his high school and doesn’t seem to be good at the sport he plays… at least until his newly-acquired wolf powers take hold. Scott struggles with high school bullies, but has a great friend named Stiles to help him through his troubles.

Stiles in both the movie and show is a comic relief character and brings light to some of the darker scenes, though the Stiles in the series does not wear profound shirts, and does not van surf. (I had a shirt made after one of the ones movie Stiles wears.)

When both movie-Scott and TV-Scott become werewolves, they struggle to keep the transformation under control. First, of course, Scott freaks out when the nails and ears show. (If I remember correctly, I think both transformation scenes took place in a bathroom as well.)

Despite the similarities, there are several significant discrepancies: the film is family-friendly and lighthearted while the series is dark and mysterious. The way the wolf transformation is introduced and the first girlfriends are pretty different from the other. The obstacles Scott faces, the parental situation and the sport that Scott plays are different in the movie and the show.

Let’s Talk Genres

 

The movie has a kind of lightness to it, keeps you smiling the whole way through. As most movies from the 80s, there is cheesy music that plays in the background that highlights the situation and gives the audience emotional cues: all up beat rhythms, guitars and electronic pianos. If something was about to go down, the audience heard it.

The TV series music, on the other hand, is oriented more toward the element of shock and surprise, as well as keeping you at the edge of your seat. It has slower beats: calm tempos, rock and some techno, which of course works for the darker, mystery-filled TV show.

How It Begins

So, let’s discuss the start of the wolf. For both versions of Scott, this begins in high school (one of those similarity things) but it’s how they start that is so different.

Movie-Scott was born with the gift, inherited by the father in the family line. Though apparently according to his dad, this was supposed to have skipped a generation. (I guess Scott wasn’t so lucky… or was he?) After his first full transformation, Scott shows his werewolf self his father (only to see his father also all wolfed out! Whoa!) and his father then explains the family secret. This was a good point for movie-Scott: he is advised to use his gifts for good and not to use them to manipulate others to get ahead (though he may have used them to get some popularity points at school.) He turns into the wolf in front of the whole school during a basketball game, he is able to channel his inner basketball talent and helps lead the team to victory (this is how he gets the huge splash in the popularity pool.) His friend Stiles becomes like his personal publicity agent, selling all things wolf.  But then he learns that it is better to be ones self and accept who you are, flaws and all. (Message!!)

Now the TV-Scott, though… he was not so lucky. He was chased down and bitten by a scary beast in the woods. He goes through his change, trying to hide this from everyone, and has no one to talk to about what is going on. (Sucks to be him, really.) Though TV-Scott discovers what great powers come with being the wolf, he also has to learn how to control the wolfy part of him, especially when he gets excited. (Allison, his girlfriend, does not help this much at first…) He shows his friend Stiles, who then becomes the only person he trusts for a while, and is the only one who helps him deal with the changes he is going through. He has to decide, with the help of his friends, what kind of wolf he wants to be.

How About Those Bad Guys?

Both Scotts have battles to fight in high school. Movie-Scott has to battle high school bullying and dealing with puberty. The other Scott, well… he battles quite the arsenal of enemies: Werewolves, La Bete Du Gevaudan, The Nogitsune, Theo Raeken, Peter Hale, Alpha Pack, Alpha Twins, Berserkers, Dread Doctors… the list goes on and on. (This is probably why there are so many seasons of the Teen Wolf television series, and the movie only got a sequel… it could have probably used a battle with one of the above bad guys to help its rating.)

Crushes; The Ladies Of The Wolves

Now what would our hero be without a lady love?? Both Scotts have a main squeeze. For movie-Scott, her name is Boof. (Yes, you read that right… Boof.) And despite her odd name, this lady is pretty cool. She is Scott’s best friend, is always giving advice and is there for him when he needs her. Yet she secretly has a crush on him and would never tell… at least not until they are trapped in a closet together…

The other lovely maiden, of our TV Scott is named Allison; she is an all around bad-arse (wicked cool, mega-awesome, etc). She is a hunter (of werewolves!) who has killer aim with a bow and arrow. In the show however, she is not the friend of Scott at first. In fact, they meet for the first time in class, and the crush feeling is mutual between these two. So of course they become boyfriend/girlfriend and all is happy. At least until she realizes he is a werewolf, and she is a hunter…. Well, then that when the relationship drama happens. (But that’s for another blog.)

Parental Guidance

Both Scotts live with a single parent. Movie-Scott with his dad, and TV-Scott lives with his mom. Movie-Scott’s dad is a single father, and seems to be single because mom has passed. (At least that is what I got out of it, I could be wrong.) They don’t seem to really go into what the history is with the single dad or what his career is. The father, though, is a wolf the same as Scott. He is able to relate to his son and guide him on the way. He is a pretty chill dad from what I gather.

TV-Scott lives with his mom. She is a nurse and divorced from the father who seemed to be out of the picture until just recently (they introduced him about two seasons ago, I think.) A wolf did not bite her so she is not like Scott in that manner because she is 100% not wolf. In fact, she does not know that Scott is a werewolf until much later. And once she does learn of her son’s secret, she is accepting and only wants to help her son in whatever way she can. (This to me makes her mom of the year.)

Feeling Old?!?

AAAHHHHH!!!!!

Now, I tried to find out if other people find there to be similarities between the two, and to my sadness, not many people have seen both. In fact a lot of people who have seen the 80s movie have not bothered to watch the TV show, and those who have seen the show are, dare I say it, too young to know there is an awesome movie out there with Michael J. Fox leading the role as super cool wolf. Ugh, the sadness of it all! This, my friends, makes me feel pretty old to say the least.

But there are some who are educated in the Wolf era, like my amazing son, who is 11, and has watched this with me since the show aired in 2011. He’s never missed an episode. He will definitely say there are differences between the two. (The movie never made him jump.)

Though they may be completely different in so many ways, I feel they should both be seen. If you have not seen them both, then I urge you, watch the other. They are both wonderful in their own ways, and if you like the one then you will probably like the other.
