Doctor Who: The Fire Maker review: The William Hartnell years

firemaker1

Welcome back!

As we know, the Doctor and companions have found the big blue box, and so have the caver dudes.

zha-man-down

MAN DOWN!

The Cave people bring the wounded Zha back to the cave. The other cave dudes are shocked. Khal is claiming that he brought back Zha and the female, saving them. Plus he claims that Zha is the one to have killed the old woman. The Doctor is there, disproving Khal’s claims, first with the lack of blood on the rock/knife. Khal exclaims that the knife is broken, due to it not showing what it has done. The Doctor, being sly, explains that the knife is a good knife and better than the one that Khal owns. Well of course, Khal now has to show that his is the better knife, bringing it forth. And the Doctor takes the knife out of the hand of the proud caveman, showing all the evidence of blood on the weapon, from the killing of the old woman. He shows this to the other cave dudes. Now Khal explains why he killed the old lady, but the Doctor rallies the others against Khal, driving him out of the cave. Ian puts the idea in Zha’s head (who is up and ok at this point) that the pack is mightier than the one. But also, Ian gets the unwanted attention and is placed back in the prison/cave.

Zha and the lady caver are talking now. He is asking what had happened. She explains how they introduced themselves as “friend” and how they helped. Zha talks about how Ian had talked with him as well. Putting ideas in his head how the tribe is stronger as a whole. He is now determined to be a great leader, and get this fire.

Back in the dungeon, our heroes are attempting to make fire like good boys scouts. Placing twigs where needed and rubbing sticks together.

Outside the cave, Zha is making his way in.

He comes in find the companions making fire, where he asks what they are doing. They explain they are making fire. He asks, “Who is the leader?” They respond by gesturing to the Doctor. Zha explains that he feels they are from the other side of the mountain, and that they will be put to death if they do not show fire to Zha so he can save them from fate of death. The Doctor explains that they are making fire, for him. Zha is watching, though Ian states “everyone should be watching, so they all know how to make fire.”

goodboyscouts

(and the fire starts) *Inception noise* bwaaaaaa

Back with the other cavemen, they are arguing amongst themselves. One of the bigger men exclaims, “we have no meat, Zha is no leader!” The female, who has been at Zha’s side, is outraged and defends her partner.

Back in the dungeon/cave, another caveman enters the premises, and now there is about to be a battle.. oh the glorious 1960 fake battle scenes, you got to love the sound effects and dramatic flailing. The other caveman realizes there is fire, tries to grab it, and gets burned. (BURN!!) The battle between the two cavers continues… clubs and fists all around… close up of angry faces and scared companions… I must say this battle scene had me giggling. Mighty flips… kind of Wrestle Mania-like to tell you the truth. Zha has the intruder in a sleeper hold and … bites his ear??? (I didn’t know we had Tyson in this episode) After the intruder has fallen, Zha takes a giant rock and smashes his head (which they do not show because well, you didn’t show that kind of stuff on TV.)

ooohfire

ooooh fire

The cave people outside are hollering, Zha grabs a stick of fire and brings this to them… They all oooh and aaaah at the sight and now accept him as the leader. He announces that Khal is dead (this was the intruder, didn’t realize this until he said it was) and he then travels out to the forest to get meat. (hehehehe) 😉

The heroes back in the cave are questioning the female as to where the Zha man is. The female informs them that he is out hunting. They question their freedom explaining that they gave the fire as asked and now they want to go. But it seems they will not be able to leave. .

Scenes switch and now it’s later. The Doctor and companions are cooking meat over fire, Zha is checking on them, making sure they are comfortable, in his own way. They explain they wish to be let go, but Zha wants to join tribes. He apparently does not understand what they want to do. Zha leaves, the heroes feel defeated. Susan stands up with a stick of fire and grabs a skull from the ground. She then places this on the burning stick. “Look,” she exclaims, “it almost looks like it’s alive.” This gives Ian an idea… To fake their death…

Back in other part of the cave, the female is cooking her meat….

She then wonders in to the dungeon… and finds the burning skulls, she trips out screaming… and the other cavepeeps come to see… they too are scared… this gives the heroes their chance to escape… they run out to the forest….

Suddenly one of the sticks with skull falls over, alerting the Zha that this was a trick. He yells to them, “We will run to the night to find them with the fire sticks”… The heroes are running for their life… and the numbskull cavers are not far behind them…. (RUN HEROES RUN!!!)

we-made-it

They make it to the TARDIS, close the doors.. the Doctor runs to the panel and gets the ol’ girl up and running., The cavemen outside, watch in disbelief as the TARDIS disappears.

Inside, the crewmembers are tired and dirty. Ian wants to be taken back home but the Doctor states that the TARDIS is not working right… He is unable to go back to the right time. They land… unsure of where or when they are… Doctor is reading the panel, checking the radiation… which is in the danger zone… and the show ends….

Next time : The Dead Planet   ^_^

Supergirl trailer name drop….. GOTHAM!!!

The newest trailer has been released of Supergirl season two, bringing us clips of the “team up” episode where our lovely Kara gets to work side by side with the Man of Steel himself, Superman!!! And can I say, it looks AWESOME!!!

As you watch the trailer below, you will see we have Mr. Tyler Hoechlin playing hotty boy blue as mentioned in other articles. Can I say it… I am saying it here…. MMMMMM YES. Man, he is looking good in that super suit, and killing it in the Clark apparel (I love a man with glasses in a suit.) And we get to see the thrills of them flying, fighting, and working together. Just gives you tingles and gets that adrenaline going.

The trailer gives us fun scenes like Superman being asked by Winn Schott, Jr, “How do you shave?” (most wondered questioned ever) and Kat Grant getting all twittered by Clark Kent. (I would be too) The name drop comes from a few bystanders who are walking away from what looks like a fight that had happened, and you hear them say “We’re moving back to Gotham.” *eeeek*

Just watch this trailer below and enjoy it, my friends. It is truly fantastic and just gets you ready for the new season to air October 10th. ^_^

Russo Brothers talks out about lack of Hulk, Fury, and death of Captain America

*spoilers*

Ok, if you follow the comics, like a lot of us do, then you probably noticed that the Civil War movie was missing some key ingredients. One, Hulk and Thor seemed to be MIA, along with Fury, and two… no one died….

shocked-face

(Im as shocked as you Cap)

In the comics, when it comes to the Civil War, the Cap is not supposed to come out alive, yet in the movie, he was perfectly fine and had it out later with a grueling, one on one battle with Iron Man. Yet according to Russo brothers, they felt that the dynamics weren’t needed to make the moviegoers feel the pain.

Joe Russo states: “We talked about several characters dying at the end of the movie, and we thought that it would undercut what is really the rich tension of the movie, which is Kramer vs Kramer. It’s about a divorce. If somebody dies, it would create empathy, which would change and allow for repair, and we didn’t want to do that.”

Anthony Russo: “The tragedy is the family falls apart. Not that the family falls apart and someone dies. The plan to split the Avengers apart instead of outright killing a major character makes sense, and it’s deftly accomplished within the film”

Ok, so this explains the lack of death in the movie, and if you have read the comics, then you do know that *spoilers* when they go up against the gauntlet, everyone is supposed to die…. And then they all come back to life… because this is comics, and everyone comes back to the living. We will see where they take this for Infinity War movie. Yet this does not tell us where the Thor, Hulk and Fury ran off to.

Well if you own the Captain America: Civil War disc, there is a video as to where Thor was during the battle…… And it’s pretty silly. Apparently, he moved in with a guy named Daryl? Check out the video below— (Thor even meets up with Bruce, having a convo about his pants lol)

And for the Fury himself, the writers, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, felt that he didn’t need to be in the movie. They state, “We didn’t want him taking one side or the other, because that’s not his place in the universe. And then we didn’t want another ‘is he still with the government? Is he opposed to the government but supporting the government?’ It got to be the potential for a lot more polemic discussion that the movie did not have room for.” They continued on with “he’s the guy who put it together…sort of parent figure…”

hulksad

Ok so this makes sense. I mean to me, not having him there was a good move along with Thor being MIA, since Thor is from a different planet and his views may not be needed here… but no Hulk? I think a battle with supersized Ant Man would have been fantastic to see… but oh well, we shall see what the next Civil War movie has in store right.

So there you have it, answers to some of the questions we had for the new movie and hopefully some ideas as to what’s in store for future movies. ^_^

Clothing Tips From Dark Clothing For The Who Line

Omg I love rocking my Doctor Who gear… I have so many shirts, skirts, shoes, hats, bowties…. Yeah it’s a lot…. And there are so many more wonderful things they have out there for us Whovians to enjoy and sport for our number one fave show. Doctor Who SN1 EP3 – Forest Of Fear – The William Hartnell Years Review

forest-of-fear-doctor-who

Welcome back! We return to the Doctor and his companions in the cave with the holy skulls (hehe) as they look in shock and fear at their possible future.

The show then jumps to the cave-oneons sleeping all huddle ball but the old hag is awake and grabs a rock that looks a bit sharp. Then back to our heroes, tied up, in the dungeon cave trying to figure out a way to get out. (I love how the cavers know how to perform a knot to tie one up, but cant figure out the fire thing).

The old lady sneaks out of the sleeping group, making her way to the group in the cave. Susan screams as she notices the old hag, breaking through the twigs that barricade the entrance of the dungeon. She then exclaims “you know make fire??”

Another of the cave peeps, a woman, wakes Zha and warns him that the old woman has taken his sharp tool and is on her way to kill the heroes. At first he doesn’t believe the chick due to some giant boulder still being in the way, but soon realizes that she was telling the truth as the prisoners escape thanks to old haggidy. There is a quick struggle as Zha fights the old lady, knocking her to the ground (not sure if he killed her, this is questionable acting with not much in the effects department so I am not entirely sure). He then talks to the lady cavy of the need to get the heroes back and get this fire thing on the way.

The Doctor and his band are now in the forest, trying to find their way to the TARDIS, Barbara seems to be a bit hysterical and the Doctor a tad out of breath (kind of not digging how the ladies freak out a bit on the too much side here…) But they venture on through, determined to find their way, and get out of there. The two cave peeps, Zha and the chick, have followed them into the forest. Suddenly Zha is attacked by an animal, there is a lot of freaking out on the female cavepersons part, and he is down. The companions see this attack happen, and decide that they need to help. Ian and Barbara head out first, followed by Susan, even though the Doctor is not exactly behind the decision. They approach the wounded and start to help. The Doctor is pretty frustrated at this point, not trusting the cavers to keep their whereabouts a secret.

Mean while, back in the cave… The old woman lives!! And is found by Khal….. Who is not very nice to her when trying to find information on what happened to the prisoners. He then takes out a sharp rock….

Back to our heroes in the jungle, trying to help the caveman down. They are trying to explain to the young cave chick how they are helping. The Doctor still stands there, worried and unsure of the situation. (There is a quick part where the Doctor walks over to the group and caveman, leans down and picks up a rock. His hand is grabbed by Ian who asks “what are you doing?” The Doctor replies, “ I, I was going to see if he could draw us the way…”

Back at the cave, the peeps there discover that the old lady is dead. They are all angry, with Khal acting all innocent and helping with the uproar of the angry and scared dwellers. They are now going to find Zha and the prisoners…..

Back to our heroes… they have found the TARDIS!!! And it seems Khal has found them….

OK that’s it for this episode…. Riveting isn’t it? I know I’m at the edge of my seat.. Just makes me wonder though…. What was the Doctor going to do with the rock…. They way they had him approach and pick up the rock was almost like he was going to use it on the cave guy… but that’s not the way of the Doctor right? Hmmm IDK…. If you have seen this episode please let me know. Next review… The FIREMAKER  ^_^

Doctor Who SN1 EP2 – The Cave Of Skulls – The William Hartnell Years Review

p0110bkv

The second episode of the William Hartnell years. After landing in some time and place following the confrontation the Doctor had with his companions, we find they have landed in the time of cavemen.

The cavepeople, who speak English amazingly well can I add, are attempting to make fire. The main guy has a bone in his hand and is trying desperately to figure out how to get a fire going so the people can survive. (Curious as to why they can’t make fire, but the speak very well for Neanderthals.) One of the cave men though has found the TARDIS and is looking in awe.

In the TARDIS, they have discovered they have landed, and Ian does not believe they have landed somewhere else. He thinks they are being cray-cray about traveling though time. The Doctor seems perturbed yet pleased that Ian is a disbeliever, and can’t wait to show him. There is a wonderful banter between Ian and the doctor, Ian fully thinking they are still in London in the 60s, and finding it very hard to believe they are anywhere else in time, let alone that time travel is possible. You can see the twinkle in the Doctor’s eyes as he discusses the time travel idea with the young man, and you can tell he thinks this person is a stupid human.

The opening of the TARDIS doors is fantastically retro…. Those big dots on the walls, door opening… omg retro, lovely retro. And this is when Ian makes his way out of the TARDIS and into the time of the cave peeps… and he is in major disbelief. This is also when the Doctor is puzzled as to why the police box has not changed.

*side note, for those of you who do not know,,, and I’m sure most of you do, The police box was not supposed to be noticeable by those who saw it. In fact, according to the Doctor, this was supposed to go into a camouflage and blend in or disguise itself so that it’s not noticed by the other people or things passing by*

Ian is very perplexed. The poor man is unable to cope with the idea that they are somewhere else. Mean while, the Doctor is collecting samples to figure out where they are, when he is abducted!!! Susan is in hysterics when they go to find her grandfather and realize he is no where to be found. Ian and Barbara console her, and Ian discovers that the sand is freezing cold.

We now jump back to the cavemen. They are the ones who have captured the Doctor. They are examining the Doctor in a sense. The caveman who discovered him talks about seeing fire coming from the fingers of the Doctor and smoke coming from his mouth. Khal, the name of this caveman, gloats of his findings. The other caveman dude, the one attempting the fire making with the bone in the earlier part of this show, is now challenged to make fire by the Khal guy, challenged for the leadership of the cave-onians. The Doctor wakes up while hearing the arguing of the Zha and Khal, and tells them he will give them the fire if they chill. But Zha does not believe him and challenges him to make the fire. Khal begs the Doctor to do as seen before and make fire… As this is all going on, we see Ian jump in and attack one of the cavemen, attempting to save the Doctor. The Doctor stops him by threatening ‘no fire’ should the man be injured or killed. The plot thickens when there is a discussion between Zha and an old woman who argue that the four strangers should be killed or they will bring destruction to the cavers. Where Zha reassures the old woman that the strangers will be killed when the bright orb (I’m guessing the sun) appears in the sky again.

We then cut to the four heroes, in a cave/dungeon area, where they notice the skulls on the ground,… and the skulls have holes in their heads…. Dom dom dom…..

This episode of the cavers was pretty amusing to watch for sure. I mean the English language, though somewhat primitive, was pretty good linguistically if you ask me. The only parts that made them seem “stupid” in any form was when they referred to the sun in the sky and talking about fire from the hands… cute really. The next episode to be reviewed is number 3, the Forest of Fear   ^_^

Doctor Who The Lost Episodes, The Crusade: The Knight Of Jaffaa Review

250px-crusades_doctor_who

Ok, so this one was a bit harder for me to keep track of and review… just because it’s all audio and no visual. I am a very hard person to keep still for long periods of time unless I am completely entranced by something, but an audio thing is not the way to do it. I’m afraid I had to listen to this a few times before I knew what was going on. :-/

The episode opens with sounds of the credits then followed by music that lets you know we are still in the kingly era and in some trouble still. The Doctor seems to be talking to his Highness, fluffing his ego of the current situation. He is persuaded to send a messenger to the opposing team. His highness then calls upon Joanna, his sister I guess. They are talking, discussing the jewel she owns, which appears to be new and from the opposing enemy. Plus deciding on who will go talk with the sultan and get one of their men back.

Like I said earlier, this was very hard to follow, I was not sure where or what was going on, but from what I gather, the episode is basically about the king trying to get back one of his favored men, and doing this without it being known that this knight is so sought for. They are trying to do this peacefully it seems, yet I feel like the sultan dude may not be so up for the peaceful treaty. In one part, Ian (one of the Doctor’s companions) has been knighted by the king, which is awesome for him. And they are still trying to get Barbara back,  (who I think may have escaped) which sounds like once the sultan finds out of course he is not happy camper about this, and figures out that the king’s man he has captured may be who helped Barbara escape.

I had to giggle at one of the audio parts, it seems that the Doctor is being accused of steeling from a couple of merchants. The Doctor of course if being very witty, trying to confuse the two accusers of their claims and pretty much makes them look (I mean sound) the fool.

(there was a long part where you hear that something is supposed to be going on but I have no idea what, I think that maybe people are sneaking around, maybe either escaping or breaking in? )

Then the show ends…. And I am left confused as to the last part of what happened. But over all the whole episode was basically about the knight of the king, one party wanting to free him and the other party seems to have lost him. Though the episode seemed well thought of, I wish they would have given the video part so I could better tell of the actions going on here. Regardless I enjoyed trying to imagine what was happening ^_^

Justice League Spoof Released By Artspear Entertainment

maxresdefault

I love it when people do these! Making fun of movies, tv shows, commercials, they are just super fun to watch. And here is one more done in honor of the Justice League movie they premiered at the San Diego ComicCon.

The spoof was created by Artspear Entertainment, and is on YoutTube for your viewing pleasure but as we are nice, I’ve included it below. It has Batman, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, The Flash and of course Cyborg. The trailer is animated, but looks more like someone traced over the characters and gave them silly looking eyes. There is a very goofy scene where Batman is talking with Cyborg about who he is, and when asked if this is relevant to now, Batman replies with a no and disappears, messing with Cyborg’s head… Completely fantastic and silly.

I have loaded the video below for you all to enjoy as much as I have. As well as you should go check out the trailer for the real Justice League movie if you haven’t already. I can’t wait for this awesome movie! ^_^

Which Star From Firefly Said ‘One Season Was Enough’ ? …

firefly2

Oh Firefly, the show that was prematurely ripped from our hearts after just one season. To never know what was to come of the ship and its crew, to never see if the captain may in fact marry the lovely companion. Or to see if they ever become rich and no longer have to scavenge the universe searching for junk to sell in need of finances or trade…. Why cruel universe, why did thou taketh it from us…..*shakes fists at the sky*

Ok that may have been a little dramatic, but I’m sure you all feel the same as I when it comes to Firefly. And yet there is someone out there who thinks that one season was enough….. and it’s from someone who was on the show!!! (WTH) And you know who this traitor is… Nathan Fillion! (wait what!!??!!) He has stated, “it’s really hard to look at this kind of stuff and say ‘give me more’, because enough is enough. Oh my god, it was everything, it was everything, how can everything not be enough?” What do you mean how can everything not be enough, it ended after 11 out of 13 episodes and left us without full closure…. Sure there are comics that continue on the legacy of this wonderful franchise but come on… if they had allowed the series to finish with some sort of conclusion then maybe we all wouldn’t be begging for more. Well ok, that’s not entirely true I’m sure. The show made it big for Joss Whedon,  and brought him to the top more than any other show, (bigger than Buffy) and left the empty whole in our stomachs that needed to be filled. Sure, eat on Joss and Nathan, enjoy your careers that hit huge thanks to the wonderful making of Firefly, no matter that to us, the fans, who are the reason you all had your major time with the lights and fame, are left to our own sorrows and emptiness inside….

We Review Doctor Who ‘The Lost Episodes’

I just recently purchased the lost episodes of Doctor Who on DVD. Super excited to see what these lost episodes were. Hard to think there are ones out there that were never broadcast in the US. But there are 4 episodes that were never aired here… why? Well I don’t know but for whatever reason they weren’t. So here is my review of the first one, called The Crusade: The Lion.

(SPOILERS)hartnell02

Now these episodes are still with the very first doctor, William Hartnell, with 3 companions, Barbara, Nicki and Ian. His granddaughter is not with him during these ones though. We find the Doctor in the past, a time with what looks like knights in a crusade. King Richard’s time I guess.  So they are attacked after appearing in the woods by some knights, and of course the battle is very corny. The fighting styles back then, well, they make you giggle that’s for sure. And during the process of the fight, Barbara is captured. She is taken to King Richard, where she gets to meet the man himself. (Or at least a guy pretending to be the King, as to protect his highness) The “king” is kind to her but questions her appearance. He then decides that she will have a different name and title, Sister Joanna to the King. They are interrupted by a jerk in a sultan clothing line who makes threats and leaves the screen.

Then the scenes cut to the Doctor in the market, “gathering” clothes to dress up in so they could blend in with the others. He is being crafty in his endeavors to achieve a new clothing line for his companions, which is cute and silly. Hiding under tables and taking the clothing on top while the shops keep is distracted by another.

The scenes go back to the sultan clothed dudes who bring the “king” and “princess Joanna” to the Sultan, who figures out that the imposters are the not king and his sister. He doesn’t seem to be so angry with this, but instead makes everyone leave as he questions Barbara and where she came from and what she is doing here.

Scene then goes back to the Doctor and the other two companions who are now trying to plead with the real king about getting some guys to help rescue their friend, which does not go to well. The king does not wish to do any trades or whatnot with the other lordly dude, considering he had killed the king’s friends (not cool) and will not have anything to do with this mission. He feels that Barbara can rot there with the Sultan guy before he considers doing business with him. The Doctor and companions now have to figure out what they can do next to get their friend and companion back.

Ok there was the first of the 4 episodes. Short and sweet, not sure why this was not released in the United States…. Seemed like the other episodes of this time. No idea. But the next one I will review is audio only so this may be a challenge trying to keep up with what is going on and just listen…. I have a hard time just listening  Hope you enjoyed this. ^_^
