SN02-EP08 “Trip To Stabby Town”

Chloe (Lauren German), Lucifer (Tom Ellis) and Dan (Kevin Alejandro) get the call and attend the case of a female victim who has been brutally stabbed to death in broad daylight, it looks to be a crime of passion and further digging reveals the she was a member of a yoga group that borders on being cult. A witness comes forward and has managed to capture on his phone, the murder in progress and instantly
Lucifer recognises the murder weapon, it’s Azrael’s (the Angel of Death) dagger. Lucifer takes Amenadiel ( D.B. Woodside) and Maze (Lesley-Anne Brandt) to Uriel’s grave in the middle of nowhere and the grave has been dug up, however, Uriel is still in there, but Azrael’s dagger is not. It’s not looking good for humanity.

lucifer-season-2-episode-8-4-0488

Lucifer asks Ella (Aimee Garcia) for help on his own case, finding out who stole Azrael’s dagger from Uriel’s grave. Ella’s forensics leads have led Lucifer straight to Charlotte’s (Tricia Helfer) law firm, Lucifer confronts Mama dearest and she reveals she release the dagger into the world to “get her husband’s (God) attention”, and the only way to do that it to create carnage among his toys, never cross a woman scorned, the bitches be crazy! It seems Chloe is getting a little jealous, as Lucifer and Ella are spending a lot of time together on Lucifer’s case on the side. Chloe’s case crosses over with the first victim’s case when they find numerous members of the same yoga group stabbed to death, with Azrael’s dagger still embedded in one of the victim’s.

lucifer-2x08-ella-3

Dan takes hold of the dagger and it’s bewitched him with anger, he threatens Lucifer for ruining his marriage, career and life. Lucifer used his powers to convinces Dan not to do what the dagger wants,  Dan surprises Lucifer as he fight’s against the daggers powers, needless to say, Lucifer was a little impressed with Douche’s inner strength. In a conversation with Amenadiel and Charlotte, Amenadiel says he wants things back in their proper place with Lucifer in hell and mum in heaven, even more so now giving what has happened with Azrael’s dagger, but Charlotte says she wants her entire family back in heaven. Charlotte is up to no good, you can see it in her eyes.

Lucifer says that he despised living in hell , but the thought of living in heaven is even worse. The only place he feels understood and respected is here on Earth. Lucifer resumes his sessions with Dr Martin (Rachael Harris), after the shock of seeing Lucifer’s true face and some trivial questions such as, how Lucifer punished Hitler and her uncle, Dr Martin begins to realise that Lucifer is just as screwed up as anyone of her therapy patients; a confused individual from a dysfunctional family.

Calling all unsigned bands in the UK, this could be your chance to breakthrough and get your music heard at the Firestone’s Battle of the Bands.

With the success of last years unsigned Battle of the Bands talent search across the UK, Firestone is bring it back again this year! The well-known tyre brand is once again embarking on a nationwide hunt for the most talented bands in the UK, culminating in a performance on the Firestone Stage at the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham on December 7, in what could be a massive breakthrough opportunity.

Firestone Battle of the Bands is a social networking-based campaign and will run in partnership with the arena and Professional Music Technology (PMT), who will provide music equipment as an additional prize to the winning act. The Battle of the Band’s competition forms part of Firestone’s ongoing effort to reach a youthful audience through music. Last year, more than 200 unsigned acts showcased their talents through video entries, before Firestone had the unenviable task of narrowing the entries down to a final shortlist of just four bands.

Last year’s entries were, Indigo Sky, Rituals, Wild at Heart and Three Empty Domes but ultimately there could only be one winner, the Birmingham act Rituals were crowned the winners of Battle of the Bands 2015. Legend’s That Are Leonard Cohen & Leon Russell

PicsArt_11-14-08.18.37.jpg

The music community has been in mourning the past few days, with the passing of both Leonard Cohen and Leon Russell within a few days of each other. It seems that 2016 is not shaping up to be a good year for the Music and Acting Industry, with the year almost over I hoping it doesn’t take any more of our legends.

Leonard Cohen passed away at age 82, The Canadian was a legendary singer, songwriter, poet and novelist, Cohen’s work often explored religion, politics, isolation, sexuality and personal relationships, he was inducted into both the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame as well as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Cohen was also a Companion of the Order of Canada, which is the nation’s highest civilian honour. In 2011, Cohen received one of the Price of Asturias Awards for literature and the ninth Glenn Gould Prize.

Literary Career

In the 1950s and early 1960s Cohen perused a career as a poet and novelist, in 1951 Cohen enrolled at McGill University, he won the Chester MacNaghten Literary competition for his poems “Sparrows‘ and “Thoughts of a Landsman“. March of 1954 Cohen published his first poems in the magazine CIV/n. This issue also included poems by Cohen’s poet-professors, Irving Layton and Louis Dudek, who were also on the editorial board. Cohen later graduated McGill the following year was a B.A. degree, his literary influences during this time included William Butler Yeats, Irving Layton (Professor at McGill who taught political Science and became both Cohen’s mentor and friend), Walt Whitman, Federico Garcia Lorca and henry Miller. Cohen’s first published book of poetry Let Us Compare Mythologies came in 1956 and was published by Dudek as the first book in the McGill Poetry Series the year after his graduation. Cohen’s second book, The Spice-Box of Earth came in 1961 and was the first book published through the Canadian publishing company McClelland & Stewart. 1964 Cohen published the poetry Collection Flowers for Hitler and his novels The Favorite Game in 1963 and Beautiful Losers in 1966.

Music Career

It wasn’t till 1967 at the age of 33 that Cohen turned his has at songwriting and launched his music career, with his first album, Songs of Leonard Cohen, it was followed by three more albums of Folk music: Songs from a Room in 1968, Songs of Love and Hate in 1971 and New Skin for the Old Ceremony in 1974. Cohen’s 1977 album Death of a Ladies’ Man was co-written and produced by Phill Spector and was different to his previous minimalist sound. In 1979 Cohen released the more traditional Recent Songs, which was a blend of his acoustic style with a jazz, oriental and Mediterranean influences.

In 1984 Cohen released the studio album Various Positions in which “Hallelujah” was first released. In 1988s I’m Your Man made Cohen turn to synthesised productions and still remains on of his most popular albums. Cohen released its follow-up, The Future in 1992, which had dark lyrical overtones, with references to political and social unrest. In 2002 Cohen returned to music with the release of Ten New Songs, it was a huge hit and Canada and Europe, his eleventh album, Dear Heather followed in 2004 and with a string of successful tours under his belt between 2008 and 2010, Cohen released three albums in the final four years of his life: Old Ideas was released in 2012, Popular problems were released in 2014 and finally You Want It Darker the last of which was released three weeks before his death.

If you have not read or heard his works then you have been missing out, I highly recommend you hear or read some of the legends work.

This Week’s Fresh Friday Featured Artist is Kieran Roberts

picsart_11-11-10-13-31

After a few weeks of being absent Fresh Friday is back and this week our Fresh Friday Featured Artist is Kieran Roberts.

Kieran is a songwriter and Guitarist based in Manchester, he also won Teen Guitarist Songwriter at the 2016 Teen Clash Indie Awards. His voice has a unique quality about it, which also extends to the sound and music arrangement on the tracks. Kieran was kind enough to answer our Fresh Friday Q&A, check it out below

img_20161031_104238

FRESH FRIDAY Q & A

Presh: Describe your sound in three words

Kieran: Melodic, Soundscape, Alternative

P: When did you start singing and songwriting?

K: Bass is my first instrument, I have been playing that since I was 11/12 but I started singing and songwriting when I began learning guitar at the age of 16. Through playing the guitar I was able to teach myself to sing, using the guitar to play melodies for me replicate with my voice which was good practice.

PWho are your major musical influences?

KI tend to listen to a lot of music so I am influenced by a wide range of stuff, Damon Albarn is definitely a songwriter that stands out as a major influence on my writing, however, it all depends on what purpose I am writing for.

PWhat has been your most memorable musical moment so far?

KMy most memorable moment is from when I was in a band called Said The King, me and the bassist (Kieran Goodman) set up and organised a gig to raise money for Kirkwood Hospice and the MS Society. There were 4 bands playing including us and we managed to raise over £200.

PWhat’s the songwriting process like for you?

KUsually, I focus on writing a simple chord progression, from there I start writing melodies to fit with it, it can be quite precise in that I will always keep the main melody changing so the song is constantly moving forward. Then I add the lyrics, these are sometimes ones I have written a while ago but most of the time they are new so they fit well with the song. My songwriting method as changed rapidly recently as I have always been part of a band while writing, now I’m writing without a purpose in mind I can do it more freely. In a band I would usually have the majority of the song written and then in the band environment we would change and adapt it, the most successful times for this were in my first band Said The King as musically we were all thinking the same thing and we all had our equal parts to contribute.

P: Who have you dreamt of working with and why?

Brian Eno, he has a huge catalogue of people he has worked with and his production on their albums is fantastic, I would love to work with him because I’d be interested to see what my songs will sound like with his input.

Lucifer SN02-EP07 ‘My Little Monkey’

670

Lucifer seemed to be back to his usual charming but obnoxious self in this week’s episode, and on the back of the news, Lucifer has been ordered for an extra nine episodes, making season 2 a full season with 22 episodes! It’s such an awesome show with talented actors and actresses portraying great characters so a big shout out to the cast, crew and writers on producing a stellar show. Right, let’s recap last week’s episode in case you missed it .

Lucifer SN2-EP6 ‘Monster’

Last  week we watched Lucifer start to unravel, consumed by guilt for ending his brother Uriel’s life in a bid to save his mother Charlotte and Chloe. Lucifer looking like a hot mess arrives late to the crime scene of a Zombie – themed wedding where the bride was gunned down and the husband injured by an unseen gunman, Chloe benched Lucifer and pleaded with him to speak to Dr Martin. Lucifer takes Chloe’s advice and talks to Dr Martin, she urges him, to tell the truth as she can’t help him if he is not truthful, so Lucifer shows Dr Martin his true face, and she is left in a state of shock.

SN02- EP07 ‘My Little Monkey’

This week as I said above our Devil seemed to be back to his charming but obnoxious self, Chloe (Lauren German) gets a call that man who killed her father is being released on family leave, Chloe catches up to the van, everyone is dead including the prisoner, Chloe steps aside on this case and Dan (Kevin Alejandro) and Lucifer (Tom Ellis) steps up to take over in a surprising team up, Lucifer want to feel “normal” and who better to model oneself on than Detective Douche (Dan), an odd choice considering how they feel about one another, but is did provide enjoyable viewing.

lucifer-2-07-my-little-monkey-good-cop-devil-cop

Tina Fields the convicted murders daughter, holds Chloe at gunpoint, but Chloe is able to defuse the situation quickly, she learns that there is a video of Joe Field the night of the murder that proves he didn’t kill Chloe’s father 16 years ago. Doucheifer and Dan are making an alright team as they try to find out the truth about Chloe’s father. The dynamic douche duo figures out that Joe traded a false confession for regular payments to his daughter, but he wasn’t the only one who agreed to do a false confession.

Officer Decker was a beat cop that what on to something which got him on the wrong person radar, and that was the prison’s warden, who had been setting up these men as fall guys. The warden escaped the prison. Maze (Lesley-Ann Brandt) has been struggling to find a job that she can do on Earth, board Maze goes hunting for the warden and holds him hostage for Chloe, Maze has found her perfect job, a bounty hunter, now doesn’t that fit her to a tee. Chloe pulls her weapon on the warden but spares his life so he can enjoy prison life and knowing that Officer Decker’s kid got him.

Maze visits Dr Martin again this time with exciting news that she has a job and they will pay her to hunt down people and she wants to celebrate with her friend, but Dr Martin still coming to terms with Lucifer being the Devil and Maze a Demon she slid the cheque back, as Maze starts to walk away Linda opens the door and it was heartwarming to see Maze have her friend back even if they are complete opposites, they work. Lucifer and Chloe have also had a heartwarming moment at the end as they embrace.

American Horror Story Announces A Murder House and Coven Crossover Season

web_detailhero_series_dsktp_american-horror-story_1280x600_official

American Horror Story’s creator Ryan Murphy dropped a bomb about the future of AHS while attending EW’s PopFest. Murphy had already mentioned a future revisit to AHS’s third season Coven, linked to Lady Gaga’s Roanoke role, however, Murphy further revealed it would actually directly link to another of the show’s seasons as an official crossover.

Murphy revealed, “We do know what we’re going to do“. “It’s not going to be the next season, but we are going to do a season that’s a crossover between Murder House and Coven together, which is very bizarre.

Murphy further clarified, “There will be characters from Murder House and characters from Coven together” which as you can imagine it sent the panel’s audience into a spin. However, Murphy also confirmed the crossover will not take place during the show’s seventh season, largely because of scheduling such huge names at the same time. Murphy stated “I’ve already started going to actors from both of the seasons, quietly, saying, ‘I think in the window if you could fit us in,‘ “so yeah , it’s fun. It’s weird.”
