Alexis Arquette “Breaks Through The Veil”

There has been an outpouring of grief on social media today after it was announced that actress Alexis Arquette had passed away in the early hours of Sunday morning. Arquette, who appeared in films such as Pulp Fiction and The Wedding Singer, was 47 and had been suffering with an undisclosed illness. People Magazine has stated that a source close to the family has suggested that her cause of death was through complications from AIDS, however this remains unconfirmed. Her brother Richmond released a statement saying that she died peacefully, surrounded by her siblings and listening to David Bowie’s Starman.

As well as appearing in a number of films and tv series, Arquette was a vocal activist for transgender rights. She appeared in the 2007 documentary Alexis Arquette: She’s My Brother, which focused on her personal transition story. She had compassion and empathy for others, particularly those in less accepting situations, saying her own transition was easier because she was from a famous family.

In a statement released by the family, Arquette’s dedication to the trans community was noted. “Despite the fact that there are few parts for trans actors, she refused to play roles that were demeaning or stereotypical. She was a vanguard in the fight for understanding and acceptance for all trans people.”

Alexis Arquette was remembered by friends and family on Twitter:

iZombie Season 3: Rob Thomas Teases Zombie Speakeasy

izombie

If you like a little extra Tabasco in your Bloody Mary, the latest gossip about season 3 of iZombie could be music to your ears. Showrunner Rob Thomas revealed to Entertainment Weekly that a new zombie speakeasy would be a focal point in the next season. Thomas told EW “The number of zombies in Seattle is going up at an alarming rate, and it’s high time someone capitalised on the undead’s desire to socialise with their own kind.” Season 2 ended with the arrival of badass Vivian Stoll (Andrea Savage) who promised to make Seattle ‘the capital of the zombie homeland’. This means ample opportunity for business folks to cash in on the walking (and drinking!) dead.

Thomas continued “It’s a speakeasy where one needs to be able to eat a ghost pepper without flinching to be allowed in, but once inside, brains and hot sauces from around the world are available for the discriminating zombie,” which sounds like a great idea for a venue in the real world to be honest! The speakeasy, called The Scratching Post (as just a scratch will turn you in the world of iZombie), was originally pegged to be called Coldcock’s (snigger) but that plan was scuppered when the team found out that it was already a brand of whiskey. Unlucky dudes!

Liv (Rose McIver) is already struggling to fit in with both team human and team zombie, so how will she cope once Seattle starts to resemble a Romero movie? And also, if it’s a zombie only bar, will this mean less screen time for Ravi? If it does, I’m not feeling it!

Chris Hemsworth’s Body Scared John Krasinski Off Cap Role

krasinski-conan

Imagine an alternate universe, where the Marvel Cinematic Universe got cast in a completely different way. Rumour has it that Tom Cruise was in the running for Iron Man, Joaquin Phoenix could have been the Hulk, and Emily Blunt could have been Black Widow. But Blunt did not choose wisely, and honoured her commitment to a turkey of enormous proportions, Jack Black vehicle Gulliver’s Travels. Well played, Em! Her husband John Krasinski (The Office) was almost part of the franchise too, as he made the shortlist to play Captain America. (Fun Fact: If you go on IMDB trivia, you will see that John Krasinski was short listed for loads of major movie roles…. There’s sooo many!)

Krasinski got the enviable experience of auditioning for the role of Cap, and even got to wear the famous suit. However, Krasinski told Conan O’Brien on a recent episode of his talk show that he pulled out of the shortlist after meeting Thor star Chris Hemsworth. Krasinski said “I was putting on the suit, and I got right to my waist, I was still shirtless. I was feeling pretty good about myself. I wasn’t 13 Hours yet, but felt pretty good. And then all of a sudden, Chris Hemsworth walks by as Thor, and goes, ‘Hey, mate.’ And I was like, ‘I’m good. This is stupid. I’m not Captain America.'”

He’s not given up hope though. Krasinski is a huge Marvel fan and would love to be part of the Universe – possibly as a villain. Considering everyone on the planet appears to be getting featured in Avengers: Infinity War, surely there’s got to be something he can do!

The episode of Conan aired on 24th August. Watch the clip here:

First Look: Fans Sneak A Peek At Spielberg’s Ready Player One Set

rp1

Fans of Ernest Cline’s video game dystopian novel Ready Player One have been treated to some early set photos from the upcoming movie adaptation. The film, due for release in March 2018, is shooting in the UK under the direction of Steven Spielberg. The story is set in America, 2045, and depicts a world where people are desperate to escape their miserable lives in the wake of an energy crisis that has destroyed society. They do this through virtual reality, and our hero Wade Watts (Tye SheridanX-Men: Apocalypse) has a chance to get out of his hellish life by trying to win a competition set by eccentric game genius James Halliday (Mark RylanceThe BFGor indeed, everything. He’s the new Samuel L Jackson!)

Fans have taken to Twitter to share their pictures of the set dressing, transforming the 2016 streets of Birmingham (this is where I avoid making any jokes about Birmingham being a prime location for a dystopian future) into Cline’s futuristic landscape. Although, you’d be forgiven for being confused about the time period – the novel features a lot of 1980’s pop culture references (Halliday is a fan of the decade of mullets, and a working knowledge of such trivia is required to solve his puzzles). So while you may not expect to see references to Thundercats and Gremlins in 2045, there they are.  I wonder if the good people of Brum will be allowed to keep them….?

Check out the on-set action via the fans on Twitter:

Sheridan and Rylance are joined by a fantastic cast, including Olivia Cooke (Bates Motel), T J Miller (Silicon Valley), Ben Mendelsohn (Bloodline) and Simon Pegg (Hot Fuzz). The movie is due for release 30th March 2018.

Warner Brothers Wouldn’t Let Shia LaBeouf ‘DO IT!!’ In Suicide Squad

rsz_shialabeouf

Poor, crazy Shia LaBeouf. He’s spent a good couple of years carving out a niche for himself as a wacky, Hollywood character – proclaiming he’s not famous anymore and riding up and down in a lift for hours with Oxford University students – only to lose out on a role in Suicide Squad. Now, before you get too excited about the prospect of Shia in booty shorts and pigtails, he (disappointingly) wasn’t the original choice for Harley Quinn! LaBeouf has stated that he was up for the role of Edwards (played in the final film by Scott Eastwood) – a role that was initially bigger, prior to the casting of Will Smith as Deadshot.

In an interview with Variety, LaBeouf explained that director David Ayre, who had previously worked with him on the 2014 movie Fury, had approached him about the role of Edwards, however Warner Brothers allegedly vetoed the decision. “I don’t think Warner Bros. wanted me,” the quirky star of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull told the magazine. “I went in to meet, and they were like, ‘Nah, you’re crazy. You’re a good actor, but not this one.’ It was a big investment for them.” Considering the kind of antics Jared ‘mad-as-a-barrel-of-badgers’ Leto got up to on the set, what on Earth were they expecting him to do?!?!

The rest is history. Could LaBeouf’s performance have saved the movie from the spanking it got from reviewers and fans? I guess we’ll never know, but to satisfy your curiosity a little, please enjoy what is possibly Shia’s greatest moment on YouTube.

James Gunn Talks Baby Groot

image2

Following the huge (and surprising) success of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014, everyone’s been itching to get the gossip on the sequel, due for release next year. Director James Gunn previously revealed that the movie would feature Baby Groot (scene stealer from the first film) rather than the full grown version. During an appearance at this year’s San Diego Comic Con, Gunn suggested that there may have been some difficulties in the creative choices around the voice of Baby Groot. In the reel shown at Comic Con, Groot had no dialogue and Gunn was cryptic in interviews about how he might sound. However, the avid social media user has given a few answers online, having been bombarded with questions by fans.

What we know:

1. Vin Diesel will be returning to voice Groot in whatever form he may take. Gunn released a photo of a special ‘Groot script’, for Vin’s eyes only, explaining what each of his “I am Groot” lines means

2. Diesel will change his voice for Baby Groot – Gunn stated in an answer to one of many questions regarding the voice that Diesel is a talented voice actor and is able to do ‘many voices’. This suggests it will be all Vin rather than a digitally created voice

image

3. Gunn is keen to maintain some semblance of reality (as much as you can with a talking tree!) and has stated that Baby/Toddler Groot will not have the same pitch and tone as adult Groot. This means no deep voice out of a tiny baby mouth – sorry!
