Melissa Rosenberg Suggests Jessica Jones Will Not Be ‘Fixed’

Jessica Jones will be back on our screens for a second season in 2018, after the release of Luke Cage in a couple of weeks, and Iron Fist and The Defenders in 2017. Even though there’s been a long break between seasons, showrunner Melissa Rosenberg has already started getting the show written and finalised. In fact, season 2 is already half written. Makes me think Rosenberg was never one to leave her homework until last thing on a Sunday night….

In an interview with Esquire magazine, Rosenberg explained that Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) would not be magically “cured” following the climax of series 1. “People don’t just heal, you don’t go through that just to say, ‘Oh, he got arrested, he’s in jail, I’m OK now.’ That trauma is a huge part of who she is now.” This is a huge relief to fans. Jessica Jones has become an important part of the media landscape, particularly for women. Jessica had lots of issues going on before she met Kilgrave (David Tennant), and even though Kilgrave is now out of the picture her remaining issues need to be addressed and worked through.

Rosenberg also said that she’d learned a lot about this type of character development through working on Dexter. “With Dexter, the moment he felt guilt or accepted that he was ‘bad,’ the show’s over. He’s no longer a sociopath. The equivalent for us would be if Jessica somehow recovered from the damage that had been done to her.” A Jessica that resembled Kimmy Schmidt might not sit well with the tone of the show!

The series will arrive after The Defenders, and although Melissa Rosenberg is not on the team leading that show, she’s aware of what’s going on so that she can seamlessly link the events in with season 2. Rumour has is that Luke Cage will take a back seat and Kilgrave is gone, so the friendship between Jessica and Trish (Rachael Taylor) will take more of a leading role for the show’s second outing. She did, however, play down the ‘shipping’ chat that has surrounded the two characters. “People would love that. I sometimes think there’s sort of a prurient interest in that, like, can’t women just be friends? I feel like for me that’s what is unique about the relationship, that they are such intimate friends, and I think they don’t have to become lovers—that being said, one never knows.”

Jessica Jones season 2 as yet has no release date. Marvel’s Luke Cage lands on Netflix 30th September.

Black Widow Back-Story Was Cut From Captain America: Civil War

Captain America: Civil War has started the journey for the next few films to come out, leading up to the biggest war in superhero history. The directors did such a great job with the story that it left the fans pining for more and anticipating what we will see in the upcoming movies. Marvel and directors shared with us new faces, thicker plots, and origins so we don’t wonder how they started, but they left out someone….. Black Widow.

  

I know I was there with everyone else, just accepting that she was just there, no rhyme or reason behind how she became the Russian spy or what have you. Sure, they told us how she met Cap and the others, but no Widow history. (Avid fans of the Marvel and DC universes and readers of comic books my understand, but not everybody is into that.) Yet no one asked “where did she come from?” It was recently revealed recently that a conversation between the Cap and his red head Russian sweetie was cut from the original movie. (and no one is complaining about this or suing Marvel… just sayin’) the scene between the two should have gone something like this:

“Natasha studied Cap’s expression of resolve. Finally, she said, “In Russia, in the red room, there were dozens of us. All girls, all young. We lived together. They let us be friends. Then they dropped us in the tundra, two weeks’ walk from home, with just enough supplies for one of us to survive.”

The Cap looked at her, understanding her meaning.

“Don’t let them push us into the cold,” she said”

Hollywood makes its cuts in movies, as we all well know, and for whatever reasons they had, they felt Natasha was fine where she was and didn’t need further explaining. The movie rocked regardless and we are all waiting to see what new faces and stories we will have in future Avengers movies. ^_^

You Can Work Out With Iron Man With These Cool Kettlebells

Do you like to work out? Are you trying to get your body ready for that outfit for ComicCon? Then come get your very own Iron Man kettle bells!!! LOL ok sorry had to try some infomercial-type opening here.

Ok, if you are a workout junkie like me then this is pretty freaking awesome and a must-have for sure. Iron Man kettlebells. Yes please. And they look like the shape of Iron Man’s head! LOL yes! The picture below is of the Iron Man 40 lbs kettle bell which will be part of Onnit’s new workout line up. And will be featured along with Captain America barbell plates! Yup need to get those too.

No release date yet on these bad boys that I have found, which sucks because I am ready to buy them now. But will be watching for sure on when I can get a set and get “ahead” on the work out scene. (see what I did there, heheh Iron Man head) ^_^

We Review Rick Remender’s​ and Jerome Opena’s Seven To Eternity #1

A bit of a disclaimer before I get into the review. I am a huge fan of Rick Remender. I think he is making some of the best comics with his collaborators in the industry today so there may be a slight bias in my review.

Rick Remender has reunited with long-time collaborator Artist Jerome Opena. Rick and Jerome have worked together on Avengers: Rage of Ultron, Stange Girl, Fear Agent and Uncanny X-Force. Rick feels this current project will be better than all their previous projects.

Story Synopsis via Imagecomics.com:

“The God of Whispers has spread an omnipresent paranoia to every corner of the kingdom of Zhal; his spies hide in every hall spreading mistrust and fear. Adam Osidis, a dying knight from a disgraced house, must choose between joining a hopeless band of magic users in their desperate bid to free their world of the evil God, or accepting his promise to give Adam everything his heart desires. “

Rick Remender and Jerome Opena have created a massive universe full of potential. Rick sets up the story of Adam Osidis and his family quite well, with tragedy and mentions of a troubled dark history. It will be interesting to see Adams choices and decisions as the story will no doubt will become more complicated and layered as Adam will inevitably struggle with honouring his family and what he actually believes is the right thing to do.

Rick has said publicly that this is Jerome’s best work to date. He was not exaggerating in the slightest bit. Every panel is a work of mastery; even the toughest critic will have a hard time finding fault in his art. Jerome shows a variety of both minimalist and composite panels.  Matt Hollingsworth‘s colours are no surprise excellent as usual and compliment Jerome’s art perfectly. Russ Wooton‘s Lettering style fits the book nicely, and the word balloon flow is great, no confusing dialogue order.

Once again as with all image books page quality is not an issue, the book feels great. It will not rip by just turning the page as a fair amount of big two books will.

Seven To Eternity is a series worth investing in. With talent as rich as this team has it’s very unlikely to disappoint. I expect it will take us to new strange and exciting places, and that’s what comics need right now.

Image Comics announced today that Seven to Eternity has already gone into a 2nd printing and this is only day one of its release.

Thor: Ragnarok Director Talks Possible Dr Strange Cameo

Director Taika Waititi is already becoming an old pro at dodging questions about up and coming events in a Marvel movie. There was a picture release of Chris Hemsworth on set dressed in civilian clothing holding a business card in the streets of New York and if you zoom in on said picture you can clearly see the address ‘177A Bleecker St’ which all hardcore Marvel fans know is the address of the Sorcerer Supreme’s Sanctum Sanctorum in Greenwich Village.

Site Digital Spy attempted to get some information from Waititi but his reply came as the following.

Oh, I don’t know,” he said. “I am not sure if… I don’t know actually. I can’t comment on it. It may have just been something for the fans.”

He continued to be not very forth coming with an answer when the site asked him directly if Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange may have a cameo role in Thor: Ragnarok by saying the following

“Might be something like that,” he said. “Might be a little tease. Or maybe a tease just for people who wanted to zoom into that photo.”

So as always with Marvel we don’t have any direct response on  whether or not he will be making an appearance of any kind in the movie.

Thor: Ragnarok appears in the UK on October 27th and Doctor Strange appears in the UK on October 25th.

Gotham Season 3 Premiere! Mad City: Better to Reign in Hell

 

Gotham is finally back, and after a review of what happened in the end of last season everything starts up.

Jim is dressed up and goes to see Lee but she is with another man. Dejected he leaves knowing he has lost her.

Back in the city something is afoot in the pharmacy. A vicious thug with spikes on his head and rocky pieces coming out of his back is causing trouble. Jim comes into the shot to stop him and knocks him into the road. Soon a truck speeds by slamming into him.

A new arrival and the aunt of a classic Batman character appears on the scene, one Valerie Vale. A reporter who wants to get down to the business about the wicked creatures released by Strange’s Indian Hill.

Harvey and Gordon talk and Harvey tries to persuade him to rejoin the police but to avail. Lucius Fox who is working for the GCPD comes in and Gordon says if a villain appears and the price is right he will get him.

Suddenly Penguin comes in to tell his story about how he saw the bus filled with monsters crash. Penguin really wants Fish Mooney gone, and so do many of the shows fans.

Penguin and Butch go to Barbara and Tabitha’s new night club. Penguin tells Babs and Tabitha he will pay anyone one million for bringing Fish in dead, alive, or any other way. Cat comes in and nabs Butch’s wallet. Cat heads outside and walks with the young Ivy Pepper, handing over Butch’s wallet to a youth, its none other than Bruce Wayne’s Doppelgänger.

Bruce is troubled by what he is going to do the next day. Valerie comes in to talk to Gordon and they talk about Strange and his monsters.

Penguin stops in to see Riddler and hands him an “unsolvable” puzzle which he solves in an instant. Penguin and Riddler really have become good friends. Penguin is worried but Riddler stops him and tells him “Penguins eat Fish.” Clearly this is the beginning of the end for Fish.

Fish Mooney and her associate Cat walk in with two baddies to a lab. Fish uses her powers to subdue a guard falls needing to hold herself up on a desk. Clearly Fish isn’t as strong as she is letting people think. Gordon comes into capture Fish and is attacked by her goon. The man escapes and Gordon shows disappointment.

Bruce sits with Alfred in Wayne Enterprises, he is taking charge. Bruce knows people on his board are in the Court of Owls. In the Court of Owls headquarters the same Mr.Crowley is seen getting orders to kill Bruce.

Men come into take over Babs club and she feigns sadness when she is struck. In a fit of madness she kills the leader with the butt of his gun as Tabitha kills the others.

Valerie comes into see Gordon after a visit with Cat. She is going to join him on his mission to catch Fish.

Bruce meets with Cat and she is upset that he was gone. I really enjoy seeing these two age and show the relationship slowly develop. As they talk the Doppelgänger watches confused.

Gordon finds where Fish is and goes to see Valerie waiting in her car, he handcuffs her and heads out. He heads to Professor Strange’s right hand woman Peabody. His attempt to lure Fish works but only in bringing her monstrous goons. Gordon catches the one from earlier and as he dangles out the window pulling him bat wings sprout from his back.

Barnes is angry at Gordon and Bullock for different reasons. He wheezes as they leave, could Jim be the commissioner by the season’s end?

Ivy and Cat talk again, and Ivy wants to join in the fun. Cat rebuffs her and leaves her alone, but the Doppelgänger appears. Ivy talks of Bruce Wayne and he begs to find more about him.

It turns out Butch brought in the thug to steal Babs’ club. Penguin kills the goon and they head out.

Fish talks to Peabody and tells her if she keeps using the power she will be hurt. The only one who can help her is Strange of course. Fish wants an army, an army like her, that is a frightening thought. In a show of power Fish has one of her monsters kill of Peabody.

Ivy is caught spying and is beset upon by the monsters. Running away she falls into a hole in the ground. Cat cries over the whole thinking her dead. Gordon sits in a bar as Barnes readies his cops, Babs and Tabby toast to their success, and Valerie readies her pictures.

Alfred and Bruce are in the manor and the Butler sends him off. The assassin comes in and has a scuffle with Alfred. For an older gentleman Pertwee is a brilliant fighter. But he is subdued by the assassin. The man knocks out Bruce and walks out.

Such a stellar opening for a season. This show really does deliver on so many levels. This really set things up for an amazing season! I cannot wait for next week’s episode Burn the Witch.

Rumor: Solo Batman Movie Set In Arkham Asylum

Back in July, Batman-on-Film reported that Ben Affleck‘s solo Batman movie will take place inside Arkham Asylum, in a film that sounds very similar to the Arkham series of video games from Rocksteady.

One of the hot rumors surrounding Affleck’s Batman movie was that it would serve as a kind of loose adaptation of Grant Morrison’s Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth graphic novel that features Batman breaking up a riot at Gotham’s infamous asylum. Morrison’s comic is a dark addition to the Batman mythology and seems to be perfectly in line with the kind of superhero stories Warner Bros. is looking for; for mature audiences and crammed to the gills with as many recognizable faces as possible.

Unfortunately (for me at last), it turns out that Arkham Asylum might not play as big a role in the movie than some of us hoped. A new rumor from  Umberto Gonzalez, Heroic Hollywood editor-in-chief, suggests that the standalone Batman movie will not take place entirely in Arkham Asylum. This shouldn’t be particularly surprising now that Deathstroke has been announced as one of the major villains for Affleck’s film, the logistics of fitting him into an Arkham Asylum narrative in any meaningful way would seem pretty tough. You’d basically have to either keep him out of costume  —  which wouldn’t jive with the test footage Affleck released  —  or have him be the driving force behind the prison riots. Either way, I’m going to see it!

Thor:Ragnarok Director Hints At 4th Thor Film

Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi has been busy promoting his next film Hunt For The Wilderpeople and during an interview with Digital Spy the subject of Thor came up.

“We are halfway through and it’s going really well. Everything is going to plan in that we didn’t have a plan to start with”

“It’s going better than expected and it’s a lot of fun shooting. The style is not too dissimilar to how I would normally work. It’s just a longer schedule because it’s a bigger film with more special effects and things like that”.

He then decided to add in something extra to get people talking “If I do really well with it and people like it and I enjoy the process then I’d definitely think about doing another one”

We do not know yet if Marvel have even considered doing a 4th installment of the movie or whether they are going to end the Thor solo movies after Thor: Ragnarok.

Thor: Ragnarok is due to hit UK cinemas on October 27th.

Spider-Gwen Makes Debut Appearance in Ultimate Spider-Man

Marvel’s had its fair share of female Spider titles: Silk, Spider-Woman, a number of Spider-Girls, Madame Web – but none seem to have captured fans attention like Spider-Gwen. Originally introduced as part of the 2014-15 Spider-Verse event, she was quickly given her own series, following the Gwen Stacy of Earth-65; an alternate universe where Gwen was bitten by the radioactive spider, not Peter Parker.

Not content with her own popular series, Gwen is now hitting the screens in Disney X D’s Ultimate Spider-Man. She’s voiced by Dove Cameron, a previous Disney Channel sweetheart, best known as Mal in Descendants. Some careful Googling reveals that this is the Disney channel tv movie about the kids of Disney villains, not the 2011 film starring George Clooney  – every day’s a school day!

In her first appearance, released on Marvel’s YouTube channel, she runs into Peter Parker and Miles Morales while holding a bag of money she’s recovered from some bank robbers. Of course the guys think she’s the culprit – she looks like she’s been caught red-handed. She explains herself, and, to be honest, Parker seems cool with it. We know he’s a sucker for a pretty face. I’m going to assume there’s a pretty face under the mask.

The 3 vigilantes are then cornered by none other than Captain George Stacey (who happens to be her dad). She then tells the two guys that he’s her dad – which seems a bit crazy to me. Does no-one respect the secret identity any more? Or are they ok knowing who she is because they’re Spider-Men? I don’t know Gwen, but it seemed like a rookie mistake to me. Schoolgirl error.
