A Look At ‘The Iron Fey’ Series By Julie Kagawa

theironfey

I remember the first time I opened a book of The Iron Fey series by Julie Kagawa. I was absolutely transfixed. The colourful painting of the world was so picturesque, so unique and beckoning—that I couldn’t help but read the entire book in one sitting. The first book of the series, The Iron King, was published in 2010 and since then four more books (along with three novellas) have been published, with another book currently in the making. So what is The Iron Fey series all about? Up to book four, The Iron Knight, the books and novellas can be summed up with this excerpt:

‘The Iron Fey saga follows half-human, half-faery Meghan Chase as she fights to claim her magical birthright.

Meghan’s journey begins in the mortal world, when her half-brother Ethan is kidnapped. The mission to rescue the innocent child draws Meghan into the Nevernever, the magical world where the never-before-seen Iron fey are raining destruction upon traditional faeries. Meghan’s quest is fraught with unimagined dangers, unpredictable powers and an utterly forbidden love.’

The rest of the books are a spin-off series called The Iron Fey: Call of the Forgotten. The spin-off series along with the novellas following book four take place in the same world, but we now follow a new protagonist: Meghan’s brother, Ethan. However, in this review I’ll be sticking to the original four books of The Iron Fey.

While the plot of The Iron Fey series can be summed up easily with an excerpt, what is the fantastical world really about? Think Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland meets William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. A hint of other works can be glimpsed throughout as well, be it characters such as the Big Bad Wolf, or mythical creatures —who doesn’t like the odd dragon or chimera? The courts play a major role as well, they have long been pitted against each other, Summer fey against Winter fey, but they never thought they would soon have a common enemy. Personally, I found the series unpredictable. At one moment the characters would have room to breathe, but the next, a flurry of daggers and trickery would leave them running through the Wyld wood.

Now on to the forbidden romance. It is not another Twilight love story. Ash and Meghan’s love can only be described with the word ‘epic.’ When a person is willing to go to such extremes, such lengths, that they would even sacrifice their own life to protect another —that is nothing short of epic love. When Ash or Meghan were in grave peril they only thought of the safety of each other, not themselves, building on to the depth of their characters.

All in all, this series will forever be one of my favourites that I hope to reread again. Julie Kagawa does a superb job of building an imaginative world in which characters partake on magical quests, while battling unforeseen forces of love and trickery. Fair warning, for any of you who have experienced a book hangover, this series will definitely give you one. For those of you who don’t know what a book hangover is: it’s when you’ve finished reading such an amazing book, that when you return to the real world it feels incomplete. Yeah that’s a thing.

Russo Brother’s Accidentally Reveal Captain Marvel For ‘Avengers: Infinity War’

Right on the tails of the Russo’s revealing their plans for Avengers: Infinity War, they also let another spoiler slip – Captain Marvel will be in the line up for the Infinity War – Part I.

caroldanvers

The blonde hero Carol Danvers, who is due to her standalone movie in 2019, was brought up by mistake by the brothers during an event at the Smithsonian Institute. During a discussion about Infinity War the Russo’s mentioned Captain Marvel by name.

A fan immediately pounced with “Did you just confirm Captain Marvel?”

“Um…” Russo replied, “Captain Barvel. Totally different character.”

Right Russo. Totally. We’re so excited for the appearance of Captain Barvel in 2018. Meanwhile, you can see fan reactions to this under the twitter hashtag “#MarvelatSI” to this and more statements from the Russo’s.

Avengers: Infinity War Part I is due for release May 2018, with Part II following up in 2019, and Captain Marvel will make her solo debut in 2019.

Russo Brother’s Announce Plans For’Avengers: Infinity War’ Part I & Part II

With the UK release of Captain America: Civil War right behind them, and the US release pending, people might think the Russo Brother’s would want to wind down a little, have some time on the down low.

People might be wrong.

infinity_wars

In the space of 24 hours, Joe and Anthony Russo have announced two of their plans for Avengers: Infinity War, the two-part feature coming in 2018 and 2019 respectively.

The first bit of news, is that the Russo brothers are planning on a name change for the two titles. So far, Infinity Wars is just a working title it seems.

“It is misleading,” stated Anthony Russo, when asked about the current two-part title for Infinity War.

“The movies are two very different movies,” said Joe Russo, explaining why the title change has come about. “The intention is we will change it, we just haven’t come up with the titles yet,” he said. “But, yes, we will change it. And, yes, that is a scoop: we will retitle them.”

joeanthonyrusso

To top off this title change, the Russo brothers then made a nod to how Captain America: Civil War will affect things for Avengers: Infinity War (don’t worry, no spoilers here folks!)

What we do know about Captain America: Civil War is that it features Marvel’s biggest and bravest facing off against each other, in a heated conflict that’s ripped the team into two sides. Regardless of however the Russo’s choose to tell that story, it’s a story that will have an impact that will carry on through, and set the tone for Phase 3.

According to Joe Russo, that’s exactly what he had planned;

“What we love about [the Marvel Cinematic Universe] as storytellers is that we get to tell a story over the course of movies. We get to take the characters on journeys that, again, can be unique to the cinematic experience. So knowing that we’re doing ‘Infinity War’ really informs ‘Civil War’ because we knew we wanted to leave the characters in as complicated a place as possible to set up Infinity War.”

Scary words, Mr Russo, scary words – and yet also, completely reassuring that the MCU and the fate of the Infinity War movies are in the completely right hands. The whole point of the Cinematic Universe is that it’s a universe, and these movies have got to tie into one another and balance each other, even when it’s completely different directors and writers. It’s much like the link people make between Iron Man 3 and The Avengers; Age of Ultron – IM3 effectively ended in Tony Stark retiring and destroying all his suits, and then Age of Ultron opened on him kicking ass, running the Stark Tower as the Avengers Tower, and still very much working as a superhero, with no reference to the arc reactor he had removed from his chest.

The fact that the Russo’s are treating every project they’re given by Marvel as a careful piece to a bigger story, making sure they’re leaving their ends ready for the next beginning, is a massive reassurance for Marvel fans.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow SN1 EP13 – ‘ Leviathan ‘

lot1

Leviathan refers to something really, really big.  In this episode, Kendra earns her keep. Sort of.  That’s big.  A character returns.  That’s quite big.  Savage has a daughter.  That’s really big.  I mean, what self respecting woman would get close enough?  But as Martin says “Apparently it’s true.  There’s a lid for every pot.”  But none of these things are Leviathan-esque.   Read on to find out exactly what Leviathan refers to.

The episode opens with the WaveRider entering the airspace above London in 2166.  Into the middle of a barrage of artillery fire, London Blitz style.  Martin thinks they should develop a plan of attack, but Rip fears that there is no time.  They must rush in where Angels (or Time Masters) fear to tread, and make their attempt on Savage now.  He is apparently out in the open and therefore exposed and vulnerable.  Rip, Snart, Rory and Sara attend a rousing exhortation to the troops being given by Vandal Savage, blending into the crowd dressed in Nazi/Stormtrooper Officer style uniforms.  As officers, they are right up front.   As the speech ends, Savage and entourage leave the stage. The four are spotted by a blond woman (Jessica Sipos), dressed in a high ranking officer uniform.  This is obviously a woman to be reckoned with. She appears to recognize Snart, locking eyes with him with a smirk on her face.  Snart knows they have been made.  The four fall into line, and follow. Kendra, watching proceedings from the WaveRider, zooms in on the blonde woman, and realizes that she is wearing the bracelet that was present at Kendra’s first death.  Snart and Rory make the snap decision to play it like Chicago.  Rory trips Rip up as a distraction, the entourage turns, and our four leap into action, taking out several guards.  Snart, Rip and Rory go after Savage, while Sara engages the blonde woman.  Reinforcements arrive, so Jax, who has been standing by in the jump ship for just such an eventuality, extracts the team.

Back at the ship, our team wonders about the blonde woman – who she is, why she has Kendra’s bracelet, and how the H E double hockey sticks are they going to use a bracelet to end Savage.  Gideon is tracking the approach of a party of bodies, and tells Rip that they appear to be Resistance fighters.  Rip takes Ray, Jax, and Martin and goes to meet with them, leaving Kendra and Sara to try to figure out how to use the bracelet.  Rip offers the Rebel Commander (Sharon Taylor) their help, and they are taken to the camp, where the Commander tells Rip that they have a lot of refugees from Whitechapel, and wonders if his wife and child might be there.  Rip is dead certain that they are not.  Martin and Jax wander among the refugees, disturbed by their plight.  The children are hungry which tears at the pairs’ heartstrings.  They return to the ship to get provisions for them.  Meanwhile, Rip and Ray are waiting  by a fire barrel for the Commander’s return .  Ray wonders why they are here and are not trying to get Rip’s family to safety.  Rip tells Ray that before he enlisted the Legends, he tried to do so over and over, beginning with Egypt.  He has seen his family die countless times, because it seems that time wants to happen.  The Commander returns, and says that there is no retinal scan on file for Rip, and that his friends disappeared 150 years ago.  A report comes in from patrols that Delta Camp is under attack.  They arrive at Delta Camp to find that it has been decimated by some unknown weapon.  Back at the WaveRider, Ray and Martin work together to find out what weapon was used.  Snart and Rory meanwhile, come up with a plan to obtain the bracelet, and Kendra is tasked with going through her son’s journal to see if there is any mention of the bracelet and how it can be used.  She and Sara open the trunk containing the journal and see Carter’s mace.  Kendra flashes back to when Carter trained her to use it, in case she ever had to face Savage without him.  This gives her an idea how the bracelet can be used to end Savage.

Snart and Rory infiltrate the base where the blond woman is training soldiers, and kicking their asses.  She dismisses them at the end of the lesson, and they leave.  She hears someone clearing his throat, and looks up to find that Snart and Rory both have their weapons trained on her.  She asks “Mr. Snart” what she can do for them.  Rory says “We just like bright, sparkly objects. Like that bracelet” Cassandra wants to know if this bauble is worth risking dying for, to which Rory shrugs and says “It works with my outfit.”  Hahaha!  Good one, Mick!

Snart and Rory return to the ship with the blonde woman, and put her in the brig, where she drops the bomb that she is not Savage’s lieutenant, she is Cassandra, Savage’s daughter.  And Savage will come for her.

After some discussion on the bridge, Len steps up and offers to get the information they need out of her.  Kendra asks Rory for his help in burning something, making Rory’s day.  Len goes to the brig to chat with Cassandra, “May I call you Cassie?”.  Cassandra is expecting interrogation techniques, or torture or something equally bad, but Len merely compares his Dad to hers.  She tells him that Savage is in no way like his father.  Her father is a hard man, but saved the world by killing a madman, Per Degaton, who released the virus that killed the world and her mother.  He is more or less a hero in her eyes.  He is engaged in a war with dangerous radicals who want to kill him and rule the world.

Rory melts the bracelet for Kendra, who uses the molten metal to coat Cart’s mace.  Rory is not certain that Kendra will be able to kill Savage but she assures him that she can.

Martin and Ray have discovered that the weapon used to decimate the Delta Site is not any type of explosive.  Using a defunct satellite’s imagery, they find that the weapon left some extraordinarily big footprints.  Liquids shake and the globe on the bridge wobbles in time to the sound of approaching footsteps.  Kind of reminded me of the approach of T. Rex or the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man, lol.  Ray and Martin bring the refugees back to the ship, while Rip shows an uncharacteristic lack of empathy for them.  No doubt because time wants to happen.  Rip tells Gideon to take off, and put the floodlights on.  In the glare of the floodlights we see that neither T. Rex nor the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man is  approaching; it is instead a Leviathan of a Robot.  This robot is transparent, with all of its system details excitingly picked out in glowstick green, and with the symbol of an atom on both chest and head.  The WaveRider fires to no avail, as the Robot snatches it out of the air, very much as you would an annoying insect, and throws it as far as it can, which is a very long way indeed.  An hour away to be exact. The WaveRider lands hard, the propulsion drive damaged.  Our heroes pick themselves up, and Rip – again with a considerable lack of empathy – thinks that they should take the jumpship and abandon ship.  Martin strenuously objects as the jump ship will not be able to hold the refugees.  And then collapses, with a piece of shrapnel sticking out of his belly.  They get him to the med bay, where Gideon works his magic after Martin pleads with Jax to not let Rip leave the refugees behind.

Len, meanwhile, releases Cassie from the brig, and takes her to the hold, to show her the “dangerous radicals” her father has told her about.  She is not quite buying it, so he tells her that her father was the one who released the virus, and has Gideon show her the footage of the meeting in the Kasnian Conglomerate, where Savage indicts himself.

Rip has lost hope on the bridge, and is not even attempting repairs because there is only a little more than half an hour before the robot gets to them.  Ray, however, tells him he just doesn’t believe in fate, that choices can make a destiny, and that they can choose to fight, even if they die trying.  He has a plan to stop the giant robot.  Ray’s speech convinces Rip that he does believe in fate; that fate brought them together to stop this future.

Cassie, who’s mind has now been changed, will help them get into the bunker to finish Savage.  Kendra and Ray share a tender moment before she leaves with Sara, Snart, Rory and Rip.  Ray has an idea to use the power from the auxiliary time drive to reverse the polarity of the dwarf star matrix in the Atom suit.  In other words, he’s a-gonna get big.  Real big.  Lol.  Jax helps him to hook up, then retreats to the relative safety of the WaveRider, where he uses a comm link to be Ray’s number one cheerleader. And the fight of the Leviathans is on!  In the bunker, Savage is told that the robot is encountering resistance, which he cannot believe is possible, until he sees that Ray has done something brilliant.  An officer enters and whispers something into Savage’s ear, which puts a smile on his face.  Cassie is back.

Savage meets with Cassandra, and realizes that the bracelet is gone.  When he asks her about it, she says she must have lost it during her escape, but Savage knows she is lying.  Cassie accuses him of lying to her for her entire life.  Savage tells her to call in the ones she no doubt helped to gain access to the bunker.  Sara, Rip, Rory and Snart enter, and Savage accuses them of turning her against him.  Snart tells him it didn’t take much, and Rory says “Nothing at all, actually.”  Cassie calls Savage a monster, as his guards arrive.

lot2

Ray is struggling with the robot, so Jax tells him to use his lasers.  Ray explains that they are actually beams of compressed light, but uses them.

Savage senses Kendra, but sneers that “She can do him no harm”.  Rory tells him that he “clearly didn’t get the memo”.  And the fight is on.  Kendra grabs Savage and flies him away from where the rest of our heroes are fighting the guards and to where she has some swinging room. She does some serious damage with her bracelet coated mace.  He is completely shocked, and down more than he is up.  Kendra is about to deliver the coup de gras “for Carter”, when one of Savage’s helmeted soldiers enters and fires at Kendra.  Kendra attacks this soldier, knocks him out and his helmet falls off.  As she leans over the soldier, she realizes that it is Carter (Falk Hentschel).  BOOM!  She attempts to finish Savage off, but he tells her that he has locked Carter’s mind away.  He doesn’t know who he is and he never will.  Savage taunts her that if she kills him, she will do so knowing that she has killed the only one who can unlock Carter’s mind.

Meanwhile, the robot has KO’d Ray.  Jax desperately tries to talk Ray back into consciousness, and is successful when he tells him to “Choose to live!”  Ray shakes it off, then runs straight at the robot, who is running at him.  Ray finishes him off with a beautiful classical clothesline move that decapitates the robot.

Rip appears at Kendra’s side and urges her to finish Savage.  Rory tells her via comms that whatever she is going to do, she needs to do it now.  Snart, Sara and Rory are outnumbered and losing.  Kendra tells Rip that if she does, Carter’s mind will be lost, and Rip counters with if she doesn’t he will lose his wife and son.  Savage continues to taunt her.  “Well, my love, what’s it gonna be?”  Kendra backs off, saying “I can’t.  I’m so sorry Rip, I can’t.”  Rip says disgustedly “Lets get them back to the ship.  Both of them.”  And knocks Savage out.

Snart brings Cassie to the Rebel Commander, who wants to know why she shouldn’t kill Cassie.  Snart tells her that Cassie will be an asset to the cause.  Cassie says that she knows that Savage may be incapacitated but that his forces are still strong.  She knows their tactics and weaknesses.  The commander accepts her.

Ray enters his and Kendra’s quarters, saying that Sara had told him that Savage is on the ship, but that she was a little stingy on the details.  He wants to know if everything is ok.  Kendra tells him that they need to talk.  Uh-oh!  That phrase usually doesn’t bode well for relationships.

Martin has regained consciousness in the med bay.  Rip welcomes him back and tells him that they have managed to capture Savage, battle his army and defeat a giant robot, and he managed to sleep through it all.  The refugees are safe, but Martin wants to know for how long, since time wants to happen.  Rip tells Martin that for once, time is on their side.

Rip visits Savage in the brig, who is very upbeat for a captive.  And really, why shouldn’t he be?  He has retained the upper hand on Kendra, and by extension, on Rip as well.  Will Rip be able to save his family, now that Savage is not dead? As Savage puts it “Time will tell”.  Fade to black.

Favorite Moments:

Once again, the complementary duo of Snart and Rory.  Snart has always been a smartass, and I have always had a soft spot for smartasses.  Rory is definitely coming into his own as a smartass as well, with quick quips and one-liners.

Snart’s empathy with Cassie.  They both have horrible fathers who they each thought were good men, deep down.  His admission that he has had to learn that with crap fathers there is no “deep down”.

That moment when Ray clotheslined the giant Robot!  And it’s head went sailing off into the wild blue yonder, leaving the robot to clutch at where it’s head had been until realized it was a dead robot walking and toppled over.

At Look At ‘ The Mistborn Trilogy ‘ By Brandon Sanderson

mistborn

If high fantasy books are your favourite genre then look no further than the Mistborn Trilogy by Brandon Sanderson. The world of the Mistborn Trilogy is filled with magic (in the form of forces), creatures, castes, and gods. The books are (in order): The Final Empire, The Well of Ascension, and The Hero of Ages. The original trilogy was published between 2006 and 2008, but since then four more books in the series have been published, with one currently in production. The synopsis:

‘Once, a hero arose to save the world. A young man with a mysterious heritage courageously challenged the darkness that strangled the land.
He failed.

For a thousand years since, the world has been a wasteland of ash and mist ruled by the immortal emperor known as the Lord Ruler. Every revolt has failed miserably. Yet somehow, hope survives. Hope that dares to dream of ending the empire and even the Lord Ruler himself. A new kind of uprising is being planned, one built around the ultimate caper, one that depends on the cunning of a brilliant criminal mastermind and the determination of an unlikely heroine, a street urchin who must learn to master Allomancy, the power of a Mistborn.’

The third sentence of that had me completely hooked, I needed to read the books. If a hero already tried to save the world, and failed, then how would this heroic duo’s attempt  be any different? Not often do you come across a book series that dangles the possibility of a not so happy outcome for the main characters, and that is what intrigued me to the core.

Our two main protagonists are Vin and Kelsier. Vin is a young, thieving woman who started with practically nothing -no family, friends, home, or any sense of belonging. While her character seemed distant, distrustful, and quiet in the beginning, we watch her grow into an unlikely heroine thanks to the guidance of Kelsier, her new Mistborn abilities, and some TLC from new friends. Kelsier is also a Mistborn, but that is where the similarities end. Kelsier is a cocky mastermind, who remains optimistic about defeating the Lord Ruler and The Final Empire, despite numerous setbacks. There are many other characters that become main protagonists over time, but I’ll leave that for you to discover.

Our main antagonist is the Lord Ruler. He controls the Final Empire through the use of his unnatural power, which is why everyone believes him to be a god. The “skaa” who are basically the peasant class, work unpaid for the nobility who give them food tokens in return. The nobility trade amongst themselves and have fancy balls, all while paying taxes to the Lord Ruler. No one dares oppose the Lord Ruler, and he rarely makes public appearances, which only increases his deity reputation.

Onwards to the cool magic system! There are three magic disciplines in the Misborn world:  Allomancy, Feruchemy, and Hemalurgy. Allomancy is the ability to metabolize metals in order to “burn” them, and gain magical powers of enhanced physical or mental attributes. Since our protagonists Vin and Keliser are Mistborn, they can use Allomancy to burn any metals (each of the 16 metals pertains to a unique ability). Mistings on the other hand can only burn one metal specific to them. Feruchemy is like Allomancy, except instead of digesting the metals, a Feruchemist wears the metals to “tap” into them and use them. (If you’re planning on reading the books, don’t read the rest of this paragraph). While reading the books, I felt like Hemalurgy was the equivalent of forbidden dark magic from the Harry Potter series, and for a good reason too. A metal spike must be driven through a human body, into another person’s body in order for him/her to get power. Oh, and it has to remain there for the enhanced power to work. Yeah, gross I know.

There’s so many more interesting things in this series, be it the unique creatures or the Neo-like badassery of the fight scenes (and believe me there’s a lot of them). Sometimes they’re across rooftops, other times battlefields, either way you’ll get your full share of them. There’s even a sub-plot romance which isn’t forced, which makes us think more realistically about Cinderella’s rags-to-riches transition. So many secrets and new snippets of clues unfold page after page, I couldn’t put the books down. Sanderson did an amazing job at writing this masterpiece, and fooling the readers till the very end. Speaking of which, the ending left me feeling bitter-sweet. I was happy for the resolution, but I felt sad knowing that some characters were gone forever. I could ramble on and on about how epic this fantasy series is, but hopefully you’ll find some spare time to read it.

Rating: 8/10.

The Flash SN2 EP17 – ‘ Flash Back ‘

rsz_the-flash-season-2-premiere-review (1)

Its time for another Flash review and in this episode we see Barry travel back in time in order to learn from the Earth-1 Dr Wells aka Eobard Thawne how he can increase his speed in order to battle Zoom if they find a way back to Earth-2.

Barry is still trying to think of a way to increase the speed at which he can run and as he is having a meal with the West family Wally arrives and gives them an update on the project he is working on with his college teacher on how to create more speed in a car. As they are discussing the reading Wally has to undertake he mentions that he cannot exactly go back in time and speak to Enzo Ferrari and ask him all the questions he would like answered. Barry has a look in his eye that tells us he has a plan in mind and excuses himself and heads off to Star labs to share it with the team.

Barry arrives at Star labs and tells Cisco and Caitlin that he plans on going back in time and speaking to Dr Wells (Eobard Thawne) to see if he can gain information on how he planned to make Barry run faster in order to send himself back to his timeline. Cisco and Caitlin think this is a good idea but as they are discussing this Earth-2 Dr Wells arrives back from looking for his daughter and advises Barry that the idea is too risky and they can come up with another way to make him faster. In true Barry style in this series he does not listen and enters the tunnel and travels back in time.

rsz_the-flash-season-2-episode-17-flash-back-barry-allen-the-flash-39414704-700-394

Barry arrives in the past at the exact time that his past self if about to fight Hartley Rathaway just as he is coming to terms with his arrival his past self looks over and spots him causing Barry to run off into a nearby alleyway to regroup. He tries to contact the team but his earpiece malfunctions and he has to take matters into his own hands and speeds off to grab his past self. As he reaches the alleyway he attempts to use a serum to knock his past self out but he does not go quietly and the pair rush around before Barry manages to inject him and knock him out. Barry switches the flash symbols over to avoid being found out that he is from the future and rushes back to knock Hartley unconscious and take him back to Star labs.

rsz_the-flash-season-2-barry-allen-grant-gustin.jpg

When he arrives back at the lab and puts Hartley in his containment chamber the team ask him to remove his ear pieces but he explains he can’t do that as the pain is agonizing to him. Barry has a flash back of Hartley using his ear pieces to escape the chamber by using them as explosives and tells Cisco to check them for low level radio waves and as if by magic he picks it up straight away although this peaks Dr Wells interest in how Barry could have known that. Barry then talks to the old team and drops that he has been thinking about how he can become faster and starts to draw the speed equation on the board, you can tell by the look on Dr Wells face that he is not sure what to make of all of this but agrees to help Barry figure it out.

rsz_the-flash-season-2-3

We go to the police HQ and a patrolman is in Barry’s lab when we see the map of the city move but there are no windows open and the next thing we see if some sort of Harry Potter looking creature spring out of the board. It makes it’s way out to the main lobby of the station and the police on duty start to open fire but obviously this has no effect, the team receive news that the station is under attack and Barry jumps into action but not in time as the creature makes an escape through a window. Barry is busy tidying up the mess and Joe comes into see him to check if he is alright as he seems different before heading off and we see the return of Eddie. The pair have  brief chat and Barry tells Eddie that he is putting together a video for Iris’s birthday in 3 months and asks Eddie to record a message for Iris so that he can play it to her on her birthday.

rsz_screen_shot_2016-03-23_at_24406_am

Barry arrives back at Star labs and Dr Wells asks Barry how he managed to come up with the complex speed formula in such a short amount of time and not mention it to anybody, Barry tries to explain how he came up with the idea but Dr Wells does not seem to buy it. Dr Wells asks him who he really is and Barry’s response is it’s me Barry you know me, Dr Wells does not believe him and springs up from his chair and knocks Barry unconscious. Barry comes to and he is chained to Dr Wells chair he attempts to phase out of the cuffs and Dr Wells advises that he knows he is from the future as he has not taught his Barry how to phase through objects yet. Dr Wells then moves quickly to his right and Barry is not phased by this confirming that he knows he is from the future as his Barry would have been shocked by that move, Barry starts to laugh and then comes clean with Dr Wells about why he has come back in time and that he is facing another speedster.

rsz_vlcsnap-01682.png

Dr Wells then fills Barry in on the creature that has been chasing him and that it is in fact a time wraith and he is after Barry as they have had enough of him travelling through time changing events. Dr Wells knows Barry has to return to his time Barry advises him that he is not going anywhere until Dr Wells helps him increase his speed. Cisco and Caitlin go to take Hartley his new ear pieces in order to help stop the pain he is feeling in his ears just as the time wraith appears looking for Barry and forces the pair into the cell with Hartley who then comes up with a plan to use his new ear pieces to cause a sound that will drive the creature off this is successful.

rsz_5123130-the-flash-217-synopsis-850x560

The team are regrouping and in an instant past Barry reappears and shocks Cisco and Caitlin causing Cisco to ask a string of question all of which both Barry’s are able to answer  causing Dr Wells and Future Barry to come clean about what has been going on. Eventually Dr Wells gives Barry a flash drive with the completed formula on it and advises him that it is time for him to go back to his time. Barry rushes back to the tunnel and starts to build up the speed to take him back to the future but the time wraith comes after him and as he catches him up Barry begins to slow down. Eventually after Barry manages to get up enough speed to time jump as past Barry lends a helping hand to counter act the wraith slowing him down he takes the time wraith with him.

rsz_tf_9

Barry arrives back in his time but is floored by the wraith who starts to suck the life from Barry. Hartley arrives on the scene as he uses his gauntlets to shock the wraith but they are not strong enough to destroy the wraith after a quick tweak to the frequency being used he manages to destroy the time wraith and it appears the team may have a new member.

Barry then arrives back home and find Iris sat on the couch looking at a photo album of pictures of her and Eddie, Barry has a heart to heart with Iris and tells her that he found a video clip that he had Eddie record and has only just found it and gives it to her to watch before going to bed and the episode comes to an end
