Anime To Watch:Kiznaiver

image

Kiznaiver is a relatively new anime that just aired it’s final episode. This show tells the story of 8 people and one fateful summer.

However these people are rather special. In a world where it is possible to link pain between people there 7 are linked in that way.

What occurs because of this is a brilliantly powerful story of how people live with each other. As the bond strengthens and they become closer they start feeling every type of pain among them.

While it simply starts as physical pain soon they are feeling emotional pain as well. Everything has an effect. Love hurts and this show really shows off how love between friends can really hurt. You may not even try to fall for a friend, it’s just because of your closeness.

I suggest that anyone who enjoys a deep story watches this. I employ you to think first though as it is rather visceral. These characters are forced into insane circumstances with these horrendous locks on them.

If you like stories where people are thrust into a seemingly unexplainable and vicious circumstance this is for you. Now really this anime won’t be for everyone but that is fine. Anime is for everyone willing to expand themselves. The opening music is superb and it lulls you into a false sense of security.

All in all this anime is worth watching but I’ll leave it up to you. I will attempt a full review sooner than later. Tweet me @Starkwyvrngamer as per usual!

Familiar: Review Of A Horror Short

Official Poster

Familiar has won two awards at the Toronto International Film& Video Awards in 2012.

  • ‘Best Director’ – Richard Powell, “Familiar” (2012)
  • ‘Best Narrative Short’ – “Familiar” (2012)

Familiar is about a man John Dodd (twin brother of the main character in Worm), played by Robert Nolan, and his wife and daughter. We follow John and his thoughts during several days maybe weeks even. If this sounds familiar you are right, it is the same concept of Worm another short by the writer and director of this film, Richard Powell.

FAMILIAR_Screenshot_1

John’s thoughts are acted upon when time passes. The consequences of his actions are very severe. He is hurting the people he loves. As his actions are getting more brutal he is starting to doubt his own thoughts and actions. But are those his own thoughts…..  What is that strange thing …. As time progresses we see John dealing with his demons in more than one way. If he beats them, you’ll just have to see.

It’s a psychological horror with an open end or does it. That is the big question. The final scenes (without giving away too much) are, in my opinion, shot brilliantly. By shifting focus it creates a whole new level of angst. Which is off course a good thing in a horror.

The movie is available via iTunes for those interested.

Worm: Review Of A Horror Short

MV5BMTY3ODE0ODczNl5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwNzgyNDY4Mg@@._V1_SY1000_CR0,0,675,1000_AL_

Worm is about a teacher Geoffrey Oswald Dodd, played by Richard Nolan, which we follow during a day at school. We hear his thoughts about his students and co-workers. The thoughts are slowly getting pretty darker during the day. Some are truly disturbing as they feel so close to home. Sad to say history has shown us that some of his thoughts have been carried out by some people. So the big question is will Geoffrey act on his thoughts or not?

This is a psychological horror/thriller that leaves you with a weird feeling in the gut. Because even though Geoffrey’s thoughts are dark and grim I can’t shake the feeling that each of us hadn’t had the same thoughts about someone else. Most of us won’t act upon it but it leaves me wondering what other people might think. Is this what really goes on in the mind of the really bad people. Who knows, but I must admit that scares me.

The “voice” of the thoughts is full of emotion. You can feel the frustration and the franticness in his voice. So major kudos for the writing on those thoughts and the actor who says the lines. It made me very anxious to see and hear what was coming next. Because is Geoffrey acting out what he is thinking or not. That tension build up is so nerve wrecking. But then again that makes it also great to watch. The suspense is kept during the entire film.

Worm was one of the first cooperations between writer/director Richard Powell and producer Zach Green and won 3 ‘Best Short’ Festival Awards as it came out.

This movie is available via iTunes for those who want to see it.

Red Dwarf XI Synopsis Lands

redward.jpg

It’s cold outside, there’s no kind of atmosphere. I want to lie shipwrecked and comatose, drinking fresh mango juice with goldfish shoals nibbling at my toes. No I’m not describing my thoughts about Monday morning, that’s the words from the late 80’s and early 90’s iconic theme tune to one of the most random but successful sitcoms in British history. Don’t believe me, check out the theme tune below, you’ll be singing along in no time!

So what is Red Dwarf if you haven’t seen it? Well imagine the very last human Craig Charles (Coronation Street) in existence, stranded on a ship with a cat/human hybrid Danny John Jules (Maid Marion, Trouble In Paradise) a narcissistic hologram Chris Barrie (The Brittas Empire)and a robot human with a vacuum cleaner groinal attachment Robert Llewellyn (Scrapheap Challenge). They travel through time causing mischief and mayhem, whilst eating vindaloo and blasting anything and everything with their bazookas. They even coined the catchphrase ‘Let’s get out thier and tw*t it!’.

The original Red Dwarf was amazing, a mix of pure randomness and British humour combined with a sci-fi element. Sc-fi fans loved it, non sci-fi fans loved it. It was a smash hit. ‘Polymorph’ is my favourite episode for it’s sheer randomness. I mean an alien that disguises it’s self as underpants to attack the human? That’s more evil than Alien & Predator combined.

Ok so you got a random misfit bag of a crew, who drink beer, eat curry and take on alien underpants? You can see why the British public loved it. But sadly the show was axed in 1999 and what better way to end it than blowing up your own evil future versions of yourself.

So that was it, Red Dwarf was over, finished, it was one hell of an eleven year ride but it was worth it, it was time to go out on a high.

All was quiet until 2009 when a weird Red Dwarf/Coronation Street mash up occoured, it was so popular than the series was rebooted in 2012. It blurred the lines of reality, where Craig’s character met himself on his other show.

The less said about the the rebooted series in 2012 the better, so as such to preserve the shows memory, I will use a Men In Black ‘Neuralyzer’ to erase my memory.

The show tried a triumphant comeback and it sadly flopped more than a Tom Daley dive at the Olympics (burnnnnnn). That’s why when I heard way back before I even started the site, that British network Dave was planning on attempting another reboot I was less than thrilled! Then I sat down annd thought about it, Dave is a network that is targeted at people about my age and 10-15 years older, the true fans of the original show. Plus when you look at the list of the shows they currently air I changed my view and reserved my judgement.

All was quiet until the official Red Dwarf site has published a synopsis for series XI, and it’s looks to promise so much more.

‘Red Dwarf XI, the eleventh series of the legendary sci-fi comedy, reunites the original cast of Chris Barrie (Rimmer), Craig Charles (Lister), Danny John-Jules (Cat) and Robert Llewellyn (Kryten) along with a host of guest stars for a brand new series recorded in front of a live studio audience at Pinewood Studios. The series is written and directed by Red Dwarf co-creator,Doug Naylor, and produced by Richard Naylor and Kerry Waddell forBaby Cow Productions & Grant Naylor Productions.

The show’s six episode run sees two of the Dwarfers’ dreams come true: Rimmer accidentally saves the life of a Space Corps Captain and is promoted to Officer, while Cat takes time off from being in love with himself to fall in love with a female Cat with a secret. Meantime, Lister wakes up to discover a deranged droid has stolen some of his body parts and Kryten has a mid-life crisis and considers leaving the Dwarfers for a younger crew. The posse also find themselves in an alternative America where modern technology is outlawed, making both Kryten and Rimmer illegal.’

You can also watch the announcement by Dave below.

Is the theme tune not stuck in your head yet? Ok one more time!!

Game of Thrones SN6 E10 – ‘The Winds of Winter’

Welcome back Faith Militants, to your weekly review of Game of Thrones. The episode I shall be recapping is episode 10 of season 6 — ‘The Winds of Winter.’ This episode is actually the longest in GoT‘s history, with a run time of 69 minutes, and a whole dragon’s worth of deaths.

King’s Landing

Cersei, Tommen, the High Sparrow, Margaery, and Pycelle all dress for the trial ahead, mirroring preparation for battle. Cersei in particular is dressing in attire unusual for her, a black leather dress with a chain from shoulder to shoulder. Cersei is going to war. Tommen finishes getting ready and prepares to leave his chambers, but the Mountain does not let him through the door. The trial in Baelor’s Sept commences for Loras Tyrell, and he confesses he is guilty of sleeping with Renly Baratheon, amongst other offences.

His atonement is to join the Faith Militant, which he does, and his forehead is cut into the Seven-Pointed Star. Margaery and Mace Tyrell both watch on, unable to do anything without angering the Faith. Next begins Cersei’s trial, but she is nowhere to be found. A child tells Pycelle (Julian Glover) that the King wants to meet with him, but instead it turns out to be a trick of Qyburn’s. Before Pycelle can leave Qyburn’s dungeon, children with knives shank him to death. Margaery tells the High Sparrow that both Cersei and Tommen aren’t there, which means something bad is going to happen, but the High Sparrow disregards her warning, refusing to let anyone leave. Instead, he tells Lancel to get Cersei from the Red Keep where she resides. Lancel spots a child watching him from the steps outside Baelor’s Sept, and starts following him. The child leads him, always looking back to make sure Lancel is following. In a dimly lit room the child stabs Lancel from behind and leaves him lying on the ground. Lancel processes the room from his position on the ground: rows upon rows of barreled wildfire lines the shelves, glowing green they sit near something glowing in the distance. Lancel comes closer and realises that candles are burning in a puddle of wildfire on the floor, which touches barrels nearby. He crawls as fast as he can with his wound, but doesn’t make it in time to stop a candle melting to its end. The wildfire ignites and Baelor’s Sept is blown up.

Countless people die, including all of the Faith Militant, the High Sparrow (Jonathan Pryce), Margaery (Natallie Dormer), Loras (Finn Jones), Mace (Roger-Ashton Griffithsand Lancel (Eugene Simon). Cersei watches on with pride from the Red Keep, sipping wine in victory. In a dungeon, Cersei has Septa Unella strapped to a table and tells her that she will kill her slowly every single day, for the rest of her life. The Mountain enters and begins torturing Septa Unella as Cersei walks out saying, “Shame. Shame. Shame.” Meanwhile, Tommen (Dean-Charles Chapman) sees the aftermath of the Sept of Baelor from his window; he knows Margaery is dead. Setting down his crown on a table, he steps onto the window ledge and jumps to his death. (Looks like Maggy the Frog’s prophecy was correct.) Qyburn and Cersei examine Tommen’s body, she orders it burned and the ashes buried where Baelor’s Sept once stood. Jaimie arrives back at King’s Landing with the Lannister army, shocked to see King’s Landing in such a disaster. He makes it inside the Throne Room just in time to watch as the new-and-improved Cersei is crowned Queen of Westeros by Qyburn.

The Twins

Walder Frey is celebrating the recapture of Riverrun by having a feast, while Edmure Tully remains locked in the dungeon. A gorgeous serving girl is seen multiple times throughout the course of the evening, a harmless flirt. Later on in the evening, Walder is alone eating dinner and repeatedly asks the gorgeous serving girl where his sons are. She replies that they’re here, right there in fact, pointing out his food. After examining his food, Walder realises that they are in fact made of humans. The serving girl peels off her mask, and tells Walder that she is Arya Stark. She then slits his throat which gushes blood. Another name crossed off her list.

Dorne

Lady Olenna Tyrell is meeting up with the Sand Snakes to discuss revenge. Her granddaughter, grandson, and son all died in the Wildfire explosion that Cersei set, she doesn’t care about survival anymore. Just vengeance. One of the Sand Snakes says there’s a way to do that. Varys walks out of a hiding spot inside and simply says, “Fire and blood.” (The words of House Targaryen.)

Meereen

Daenerys tells Daario that he will now be the leader of Meereen. Daario wants to go to Westeros with her, because he loves her, but she says she must marry a Lord. Daario says he doesn’t mind being her mistress, he doesn’t care for his pride, only her. She refuses, and tells him that she has left a list of her orders. After leaving the room she meets with Tyrion, naming him the Hand of the Queen, to which he gets a bit teary-eyed. With the Iron Fleet, the Tyrells, and the Sandsnakes to back her, Daenerys begins the voyage to Westeros. Her ships are uncountable, beautifully painted with dragons as the heads, as her three dragons fly overhead.

The Citadel

Sam arrives at Oldtown to finally become a maester. After trying to clear some confusion, he is finally allowed to enter the library till a maester is ready to deal with him. He enters the library, leaving Gilly and little Sam to fend for themselves in the lobby, and nearly collapses in awe of the vast collection of books.

Beyond the Wall

Uncle Benjen declares that he cannot stay with Meera and Bran any longer, because only the living can pass through the magic of the wall. He leaves them beside a Weirwood tree, in a forest on the outskirts of the wall. Bran finally continues the vision of his father at the Tower of Joy. Ned finds his sister Lyanna dying in a pool of her blood after giving birth . She begs Ned to protect her son, who is then handed to him by the wet-nurse. Ned looks down into the baby’s dark eye, which then change into the eyes of Jon Snow. Jon Targaryen, son of Prince Rhaegar and Lyanna Stark. Nephew of Daenerys.

Winterfell

Davos accuses Melisandre of burning Princess Shireen alive at the stake. Melisandre defends her actions, to which Davos declares he loved that little girl like a daughter. Jon tells Melisandre that she must ride south and never return or else she shall be hanged. A white raven arrives from the Citadel signalling that Winter has come. Sansa apologizes for not telling Jon about the Knights of the Vale, but Jon tells her that trusting each other is the most important thing right now. Later on, Sansa sits near the Weirwood, reminiscing about the easier life she lived as a girl, when Littlefinger interrupts. He tells Sansa his big dream is to be seated on the Iron Throne, with her by his side. She remarks that it’s a pretty picture, and leaves him.

Bannerman, Wildling leaders, and other Northern Houses gather in the feast hall with Sansa and Jon. Lady Mormont scolds three House Lords who question Jon’s judgement, after which they rally support to Jon. They call him, “King in the North,” and, “The White Wolf,” to which Jon smiles happily at.

Well that was quite the finale! Is Cersei sure she isn’t related to the Mad King? Jaimie killed his own King, so that the people of King’s Landing wouldn’t be burned alive, and Cersei just wiped his sacrifice out with one plan. Poor, poor Margaery. She would’ve been a lovely queen. Do you think Arya is going to kill everyone from her list before heading to Winterfell? What do you think creepy Petey is planning on doing to secure the Iron Throne and Sansa? Comment, share and like below, or tweet me @SohoDoll. And as always, “Winter has come.”

A ‘Ghostbusters’ Themed Menu? Who You Gunna Call (And Invite To Dinner)?

ghostbusters-burgers-187624

Let’s face it, the original Ghostbusters was a classic, the remake sadly looks like an apparition that only the original team can dispose of. I ain’t afraid of no ghosts but I am afraid on this. Anyway I digress, or do I? It seems that large proportions of the internet seem to share my opinion of the new film. Now don’t get me wrong, it’s not the fact they are female, it’s just the cast, the director, heck even the soundtrack, which features one of my favourite bands Fall Out Boy has won me over.

But this, this has me interested!!

Japanese restaurant chain, J.S. Burgers Cafe, has created a Ghostbusters themed menu, that it will run between July 1st to September 30th to coincide with the release of Paul Feig’s upcoming reboot.

Well how can a menu be Ghostbusters themed I hear you ask? Will the food attack me? Will it become demonically possessed and try to eat me? Well luckily no, instead we will be treated with the chance to munch on ‘Black Chilli Chips‘. Is that a fancy word for burnt chips? (google searches the chips, ok they’re not burnt!) It’s basically some crisps (for us Brits) with sour cream, salsa and chilli that’s black. I gotta admit the black chilli, does look kinda demonic, I’m gunna eat it before it eats me!

fries

Once you’ve tackled these chips, it’s then on to the main course the ‘G.B Burger‘. This impressive burger includes purple cabbage and a black olive and anchovy paste. It truly looks like a burger Satan would eat himself. The only thing I’m scared of is this reminds ome of the ‘Halloween Burger‘, Burger King did with a black bun, that turned your poo, neon green! Don’t believe me google it.  Oooooook :/

burger.jpg

To wash that taste out your mouth you’re going to need a ‘Slimer Smoothie‘, this is perhaps the most normal item on the menu, oh wait it’s a kiwi-flavored drink topped with burger shaped candy. It also reminds you of ectoplasm, now as a massive ghostbusters fan, I’d love to be slimed, but would I like to drink it? Hmmm

slimer

If you’ve conquered all these ghosts, I mean meals, then prepare to face the ultimate challenge, the ‘Marshmallow Mad Burger‘. It looks kinda like something that Stay Puft would have pooped out. This truly ‘mad burger’ features roasted giant roasted mashmallows (poor Stay Puft) stuffed with Oreos and a red jam-like sauce dripping from the top of the bun.

marshmallow

This meal will divide opinions like the new film. but I’d be up for tackling this burger. Is it bad that as a massive Ghostbusters fan, this meal excites me far more than the film?

Interested? You can sample this at J.S. Burger Cafe outlets at the Shinjuku, Shibuya, Harajuku and Ikebukuro stores.

‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Announces Further Casting And A Potential CARNAGE!

HomecomingLogo

Spider-Man: Homecoming has announced further casting, including Donald Glover (Community, The Martian, Magic Mike XXL), Hannibal Buress (30 Rock, Bad Neighbours, The Secret Life of Pets) and Michael Mando (Better Call Saul, Orphan Black).

Other cast members include Bokeem Woodbine (Fargo, Ray, Total Recall), Martin Starr (Knocked Up, Adventureland, This is the End) and Logan Marshall-Green (Prometheus, Devil, The O.C.).

HomecomingCast_DonaldGloverMilesMorales

Donald Glover’s role has yet to be revealed, though fans are incredibly excited as he’s been a popular internet favourite for a Spider-Man role, and many have fancast him as the Ultimate Universe Spider-Man, Miles Morales. Glover voiced Morales in the Disney animated series Ultimate Spider-Man, prompting speculators to wonder if his role will involve a Miles Morales Easter Egg.

HomecomingCast_HannibalBuress

Hannibal Buress is mostly known for his stand-up comedy, but has recently turned his career to more acting roles. His most recent role is as the voice of Buddy in the recently released animated movie The Secret Life of Pets. Marvel and Sony have not commented on what his role will entail.

HomecomingCast_MichaelMandoCarnage

Michael Mando, who played Nacho Varga in Breaking Bad spin-off show Better Call Saul,
has potentially the most exciting rumour around his character, as he is strongly rumoured to be playing Cletus Kasady, aka. Carnage.

HomecomingCast_CletusKasady

Cletus Kasady was first introduced in The Amazing Spider-Man #344, and then made his debut as Carnage in issue #361. While his abilities are based off of the other highly popular symbiotic villain Venom, Carnage has absolutely no morals, and is a completely deranged character. However, it would be odd to throw in Carnage without Venom, let alone in Spider-Man’s introduction (not origin.) story. I imagine at this stage they’d introduce Mando playing Kasady, and give us a glimpse into what he’ll become.

HomecomingCast_BokeemWoodbine

Bokeem Woodbine and Logan Marshall-Green haven’t had their definite confirmed, however, Sony and Marvel have let us know that they will be playing villain roles. This brings our tally of villains for this movie to four, with Michael Keaton to join as The Vulture.

HomecomingCast_LoganMarshall-Green

Martin Starr has also been confirmed for the cast, and judging by released set photos, will be playing one of the teachers at Peter Parker’s high school.

HomecomingCast_MartinStarr

Overall, the cast line-up and the sheer amount of massive names being dropped for  Marvel’s summer 2017 blockbuster show that Marvel and Sony aren’t here for a one-off drop – they’re here for the long haul, intending to make their take on the Spider-Man franchise one massive universe of it’s own, just as Sony intended to do with The Amazing Spider-Man franchise starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is currently filming, and is scheduled for a release July 7th 2017. The movie will be starring Tom Holland as the lead web-slinger following his debut in Captain America: Civil War.

5 Things We Might See In Hawaii 5-0 Season 7

rsz_hawaii-five-0_adam_and_kono

1. Adam Released from Prison

With Adam due to be released from prison, we can expect a big Adam/Kono reunion, but will it be a happy one? And if they do get some happiness, how long will it last? This couple have been put through a lot, their relationship constantly tested, so I’m sure we can expect things to go wrong once again. Their relationship has survived prison, the Yakuza and Gabriel Waincroft, what will the show throw at them next? Will their relationship survive the season?

2. Trouble from Michelle Shioma

After attempting to kill Gabriel Waincroft, and causing a bit of trouble for the 5-0 throughout the season, 5-0 had evidence of her criminal activity to put her away, but she disappeared before they could arrest her. Could we see her return next season? She is a powerful enemy with ties to the Yakuza, and last season she had a mole inside HPD. Will she return worse than before?

 3. Will Chin Adopt Sara?

Last season we saw Chin contemplating adopting his niece Sara, and after his heart to heart with Gabriel, will he? If he does, how will this impact his work? And, with Julie Benz who plays Abby confirmed to return next season, how will this affect Chin and Abby’s relationship?

4. The Return of Doris McGarrett

In the finale, Steve was taken to a CIA black site where Wo Fat’s father forgave him for his son’s death. This all seemed a little random and unnecessary, unless it was setting up a storyline for next season. Maybe Doris McGarret (Christine Lahti) will return as she was briefly mentioned in the episode.

 5. Will Catherine comeback?

Catherine broke up with Steve and left to go undercover for the CIA. Now that Steve knows the truth, will she comeback after her mission is complete? Before she left, Steve was planning to propose, on her return will they reconcile?

Leave comments on what you think could happen next season. Who would you like to return? Personally, I would love to see Joe White (Terry O’Quinn) come back. Hawaii 5-0 will return with Season 7 in the fall.

Aimee Garcia Joins Lucifer In Season 2

wp-1466902285314.jpg

Fox has announced another new character Ella Lopez to join the cast of Lucifer, the comic-book themed series for Season 2.

Amiee Garcia will join the cast as a regular for Season 2 and will play Ella Lopez, the L.A.P.D’s new forensic scientist who grew up in rough neighborhood in Detroit, and is from a strong Catholic family with five protective brothers. Lucifer finds Ella’s beliefs in both faith and science intriguing. Garcia is known for TV roles such as Veronica Palmer on the ABC sitcom George Lopez, Yvonne Sanchez on CBS period drama Vegas and Jamie Batista on the Showtime drama Dexter and Dr. Jae Kim in MGM’s reboot film RoboCop.

Garcia’s hiring comes on the heels of news that Tricia Helfer will play Lucifer’s mother Charlotte. Season 2 of Lucifer is set to air September 19 and I for one cannot wait.
