Silicon Valley SN3 EP6 – ‘Bachmanity Insanity’

Hello and welcome to this weeks review of Silicon Valley. This week, rather than giving a quick episode synopsis before getting on with the review, I’ve decided to sum shit up  in as few words as possible. I apologise to new readers for my use of the word shit, you’ll find that I try to swear as little as I can. On with the review.

This guy fucks.

This guy gets fucked

This guy does some light finger banging before fucking himself

The episode opens with the gang celebrating Richard’s reinstatement as CEO, proclaiming him the past and present CEO. Jared’s suggestion that he is also future CEO is immediately dashed by Erlich in the first of his many idiotic moments this episode.

The episode opens with the gang celebrating Richard’s reinstatement as CEO, proclaiming him to be ‘The past and present CEO of Pied Piper.’ Jared’s asking why not future is met with Erlich’s ignorant deadpan ‘We’ll worry about that later’. This is the first of his many idiotic moments this episode. The bar scene sets up some of the plotlines of today’s episode, Richard’s relationship with Winny and Erlich’s blowout Bachmanity party. Dinesh’s small plotline of pursuing romance with one of the offshore engineers is set up in the house, along with Jared’s announcement that he’ll also get back into the dating game.

Richard’s storyline can be summed up by Gilfoyle’s single statement after meeting Winny. ‘She seems nice, it’s a shame that Richard’s gonna fuck it up.’ Richard’s inability to go one hour without a neurotic hissy fit is his downfall this episode, with his incredulous reaction to Winny using spaces instead of tabs when coding. This manifests with him refusing to be around her anymore, cutting ties and childishly attempting to take the stairs eight at a time, resulting in an awkward conversation between Winny and a Richard who had recently fell down the stairs. Richard’s childish impulses and inability to see reason are setting up Pied Piper to crash and burn by the end of the season.

Erlich decides to throw a massive blowout party in Alcatraz prison to shove his newfound wealth (that isn’t his) into the faces of old enemies that he encountered over the years before Pied Piper. Of course a blowout party that includes expensive venders, an expensive venue and a complete Hawaiian themed redesign of Alcatraz doesn’t come cheap. This is where Erlich’s problem lies. Bighead’s new business manager cuts funding to him just as he needs it most due to his excessive overspending in the past two episodes. This leaves him in the lurch, with no money whatsoever. Bighead isn’t in a much better scenario, having lost all of his money due to Erlich and his own idiotic means. ‘You moved the pool?’ ‘Yeah, I thought it looked better there’ ‘Ok that’s understandable but then you moved it back’ ‘Well it turns out, the original owners had the right idea and it looked better where it was.’

The side stories of the episode gave the show episode humour mainly through call-backs, with the infinitely popular ‘Russ was right, this guy fucks’, from Dinesh after Jared leads a conquest out of the door. Erlich also has a great line ‘Hey, great using that dick’ before going back to the conversation at hand. Dinesh’s story came off as desperate, with a need to put in high definition video chat into the platform to see if the offshore engineer was a dogface, only for her to notice his looks and abandon ship as Gilfoyle proclaims Dinesh to be the dogface.

Overall, this episode was a good sixth instalment to the season, progressing the story as well as allowing the viewer to see more of the gangs everyday life outside of platform drivers. I particularly enjoyed the ending of the episode, where Erlich has to face the party goers after having just lost all of Bachmanity’s money.
Erlich: ‘Aloha’
….
Bighead: ‘Which also means goodbye’

Game Of Thrones SN6 E7 – ‘The Broken Man’

Welcome wildlings, to your weekly review of Game of Thrones. The episode I shall be recapping is episode 7 of season 6 — ‘The Broken Man.’ Let’s begin!

Riverlands

Sandor Clegane is alive and swinging… at wood. He’s taking out his aggression, and defeat, by helping a small community of people build some sort of wooden monument to the Seven. The leader of the group, Brother Ray, who saved the Hound after mistaking him for dead, speaks to him frequently believing that the gods aren’t done with him yet. Later on, while chopping wood at a distance from the rest of the group, the Hound hears screaming in the direction of the people. He abandons his work and heads over, but he’s too late. The villagers have all been killed by the Brotherhood Without Banners, and Brother Ray has been hung from the wooden structure. Angry, Clegane ends his peaceful life, retrieves his axe and heads off seeking revenge.

King’s Landing

Queen Margaery and the High Sparrow have a talk about Margaery’s marriage duties. King Tommen really wants her back in the bed, but Margaery confesses to the High Sparrow that she just hasn’t felt the need in a long time. The High Sparrow states that she took sacred vows, and must fulfil her duties to him as a King by producing an heir to carry on the way of the Faith. The High Sparrow really is smarter than he lets on, he knows that Margaery is avoiding producing an heir as to protect her family. Before departing the room, the High Sparrow makes one last remark, a threat really, that Olenna Tyrell is in physical and spiritual danger unless she adopts the new way. Later on, Margaery meets with her grandmother, while Septa Unella stands watching, and advises her to leave King’s Landing. Olenna keeps refusing so  Margaery slips a piece of parchment in her sleeve, a drawing of their house sigil, after which she reluctantly agrees to leave. Cersei hears that Olenna is leaving and comes asking her to stay, that they need each other. Olenna tells Cersei that she has lost everything, all the control she once had, and advises her to leave King’s Landing while she still can.

Bear Island

Jon, Sansa, and Ser Davos meet with the Lady of Bear Island, ten-year-old Lyanna Mormont. Sansa tries to start the conversation with her by commenting on Lyanna’s name coming from Sansa’s beautiful aunt, but Lyanna quickly shuts down the conversation. She wants to be a strong warrior like her mother, who died fighting for Robb Stark. Jon tries to begin the next conversation by talking about how he served as steward for Lyanna’s uncle, Jeor Mormont, but that conversation is quickly ended too. Ser Davos ends up saving the day by commenting on how difficult is must be to have such a responsibility and burden thrust upon her. Lyanna quickly takes a liking to him, as he seems to truly understand her situation. She finally agrees to give her support to the cause, offering 62 men.

Deepwood Motte

Jon, Sansa, and Ser Davos meet with House Glover’s lord to urge them to join their cause. They are met with a resounding no, as the House only recently recovered Deepwood Motte from the Ironborn. They have to remain loyal to the Boltons, or suffer the consequences. Sansa tries to remind Robett Glover of their loyalty to House Stark, but Robett asks where House Stark was when his wife and brother were both slain, then dismisses them from Deepwood Motte.

The Gift

Jon, Sansa and Ser Davos meet with the wildling leaders who have settled into the Gift (the area south of the wall stretching from coast to coast). They request that the wildlings join their cause, to take back Winterfell, because when the dead come they will need all the Northern Houses to stop the Night King. If left under the control of the Boltons, then the North shall remain divided. Tormund agrees that Jon has his support, as does the giant Wun Wun, and eventually another leader. Later on, Jon and Sansa argue — Jon says they need to fight now, while Sansa disagrees saying they need more support. Sansa hastliy writes a letter to an unknown Northern House in the hopes of support, while Jon continues to break up fights between Wildlings and Northern men.

Sunspear

Yara and Theon make their last landfall at Sunspear, as they plan to head out the next day to Meereen to meet Daenerys before their uncle proposes his plan to her. Yara talks to Theon in a sisterly but stern fashion, advising him on how to get over what he’s suffered the past few years. She tells him to slit his wrists if he cannot go back to being Theon Greyjoy, but if he can change and pull himself together then be the Theon he once was. Theon agrees to live, and Yara goes off in the company of a lady she fancies leaving Theon to his thoughts and his drink.

Riverrun

Jaimie, Bronn and the Lannister army arrive at Riverrun to recapture the castle. They walk straight into the Frey camp as the Freys are novices at sieging  it seems. After watching the Freys repeatedly fail on their attempts of threatening the Blackfish with his nephew’s life, Jaimie announces he will now lead the siege. He orders trenches be dug, patrols set up, and Edmure Tully bathed and fed. Later on, Jaimie meets with the Blackfish on the drawbridge to negotiate. He soon discovers that the Blackfish would rather die than give up the cause, and they have enough supplies to stand a two-year siege. So long as the Blackfish lives, the cause is not dead.

Braavos

Arya discovers that a ship is sailing to Westeros the next day, and speaks to the captain, offering him two bags of coinage to pay for a cabin and passage. He agrees and she walks around Braavos, taking in her last day there. An old lady appears and calls out to her, but suddenly stabs Arya multiple times. It’s the waif, and she’s not in the mood to kill Arya quickly. Thankfully Arya knows a few moves of her own and head-butts the waif, before rolling over the ledge into the river below. The waif watches overhead, but sees no sign of Arya. Pleased with herself, the waif walks off. Arya surfaces on the steps of a street leading to the water, and clutches her stomach splattering blood onto the street. People watch her go by, but no one attempts to help.

Your next episode of Game of Thrones will be SN6 E8, as previewed here.

Hopefully we’ll see the Hound take on his brother. Don’t worry about Arya, she won’t die from a little boo-boo like Drogo. She’s too bad-ass, and Jaqen H’ghar did say that the girl has many talents. Fingers crossed regeneration is one of them. Hopefully the waif will get in trouble for not killing Arya quickly and painlessly. What are your thoughts on tonight’s episode? Here’s what the talented prop makers have to say about this big project:

“Prop Shop’s been involved in the film business for twenty years, and to be invited to show such a Star Wars it comes with a responsibility. There’s certainly a leap of faith that Lucasfilm made to make this collaboration happen. It’s the first time that I’ve seen where the consumer can actually access props by the props company that worked on the film itself —it’s a very unique feature. We’re creating all of the parts for these props that will match with what you saw in the film. We’ve spent weeks and months developing these things into the best, most authentic, top quality item that we can possibly make. The technology we use when we scan objects and being on set means that we can then take all that detail, capture that, and then reproject that onto a clean model. So basically what you end up with at the end of the day is what you see on set. We carry a huge sense of responsibility to satisfy the fans and make sure they’re really owning a piece of history —that’s what we’re trying to achieve. The fans are gonna get this prop and they’re gonna be really blown away by it. Every day we came to work it wasn’t a job, it was a passion for us and so, I mean, we really, really care about what we’re doing, what we’re producing, and we’re really, really pleased with what we’ve come up with.”

You can’t get any nearer to the real thing than this. The props will be where they should be, and that’s with the fans. It’s been a real labour of love for us at Prop Shop, and we really hope that you enjoy having these pieces in your homes.” – Prop Shop

Jason Statham Joins Giant Shark Movie ‘Meg’

ec3fca770d09b887be905ab4e72ab7b4

Steve Alten’s ‘MEG: A novel of deep terror’

There are a few shark movies released the last years, to name some ‘Deep Blue Sea’, ‘The Shallows’, the ‘Shark Attack’ series and so on and so on. But I expect ‘Meg’ (shortcut for “Megalodon” a giant shark, which lived 2,6 million years ago) to be a qualitative movie, not only because of the cast.

The movie will hit theaters 2nd March 2018, so there will be a lot of time to learn more about the movie. But one thing we can definitely announce is the name of the main cast and it’s none other than Jason Statham. We all know Jason Statham is famous for his strong characters like, Frank Martin in ‘Le Transporteur’ or Chev Chelios in ‘Crank’.

So it pretty surprised me, when they announced Jason Statham as part of a giant shark movie. Most of the giant shark movies are pretty trashy, but still with a cult factor and the advanced possibilities of animation, could make this giant shark movie a qualitative one. We also heard, that Eli Roth was Warner Brothers Picture first choice of director, but he quit the project recently. So now Warner Brothers Pictures decided to give Jon Turteltaub the reins and so filming is set to begin later this year in New Zealand and China.

What is ‘Meg’ about?

Naval Captain Jonas Taylor an expert sea diver, encounters an unknown creature in the deepest trench in the ocean, the Mariana Trench. The discovered unknown danger forced him to abort his mission and left half of his crew abandoned. This tragically incident happened five years ago and cost him his career and his marriage. Taylor first tries to forget about this all, but the Meg decides to go on a hunt at the surface of the water and so he decides with his remained crew to hunt this giant shark to put it to a stop.

Background to ‘Meg’

‘Meg’ is going to be an adaption of the New York Times best-selling Sci- Fi and Horror novel ‘MEG: A novel of deep terror’, which was published in July 1997 from writer Steve Alten. The novel follows the underwater adventures of a U.S. Navy deep sea diver, Jonas Taylor who discovers the giant creature. ‘MEG: A novel of deep terror’ appeared as a series and Alten already published four sequels and one prequel, after the first novel.

Here are the following books and their publishing dates:

‘MEG: A novel of deep terror’ July 1997

‘MEG: Primal Waters’ May 1999

‘MEG: Hell’s Aquarium’ July 2004

‘MEG: Night Stalkers’ June 2016

‘MEG: Origins’ August 2011 (prequel)

I’m curious if that possibly means, that we’ll may see more than just one movie of ‘Meg’ and Jason Statham as Jonas Taylor. We’ll keep you updated about the movie and I bet there will be more great news coming out soon.

The cast so far

There aren’t a lot of cast members announced yet, but we’ll keep you updated on here.

I know the first book was released back in 1997, but should we do a review about the book, before the movie hit theaters? Let me know in the comments below, or on twitter.

A Look Back At Grey’s Anatomy

greys-anatomy

Grey’s Anatomy, the name of the show gives it away a bit. Yes, it is a medical show but not in the way you might expect from the name. (Gray’s Anatomy is a book on the human anatomy.) This show is all about the anatomy of Meredith Grey, the main character. Don’t expect to see all bloody scenes (sure they have happened), because that is not what this show is about although it is a hospital series. The episodes are mostly narrated by Meredith to give an insight in what is going on in her live and the lives of her friends, who are mostly her co-workers, and the patients of Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital in Seattle. As said most of her friends and surprisingly family (in laws and half-siblings) work in the hospital. We follow their lives as well as they are intertwined with Meredith’s. No issue is spared as it is in live. It makes it interesting to see how people deal with daily life struggles, as substance abuse, hook ups, break ups, accidents and whatever life might throw at them.

Meredith started as an surgical intern in Seattle Grace Hospital twelve years ago, which is now -after many name changes, due to some life altering events- Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital. She had a rocky start at the hospital, she had a one-night stand with Derek Shepherd aka McDreamy, who later turned out to be the married neurosurgeon of Seattle Grace Hospital. That story is a can of worms we shall not open right now. But personally I liked that can of worms, it was so fun to watch, to see how everything evolved from that one event.

So life happened to Meredith as is happens to most of us. She got married with her neurosurgeon, had his kids and lost her neurosurgeon to a car accident. And that is not all that happened to her, she survived a plane crash that killed her half-sister Lexie Grey, she almost drowned (she was technically dead but got revived), got beaten up by a patient with brain damage. But life isn’t getting her down thanks to her friends and family at Grey-Sloan Memorial. They are her rock in hard times as she is for her friends sometimes.

I do question what the chances are of one human being (even a very unfortunate one) having to deal with everything that Meredith has dealt with. I mean common I know it might have happened to some people but it is a build-up of one misery after another just for our entertainment. Sure I find it highly entertaining but some story lines to me are a bit far-fetched, like the bomb in the operating room inside a person.

So Meredith has learned not to dwell on the past (it took her a while though) and neither shall I. We are now twelve years along after she started as a surgical intern and is now for more than a year a widowed mother of three who lives in the house that she and her late husband build (played by Patrick Dempsey who got fired and hence killed off in the show). She has begun “dating” again. Her latest date is Nathan Riggs, a heart surgeon with a lot of issues, who she will date Grey-style. What that entails I will not give away as to avoid spoilers but rest assured it won’t be boring.

The show throws a lot of twist and turns at you just like life. To me it doesn’t get boring. Yes it has helped that the show has guys that have nicknames like McSteamy and McDreamy, but that isn’t what the show is all about. It is a show that is well written and funded to make it believable. Sure some story-lines like the Avery-Kepner break-up was a little too long for me, but when I got bored with it they did a 180 which was very surprising to me and got me interested in their story again. The writers in my opinion know how to keep you interested in characters that have seemingly settled by throwing curve balls at them and at you.

Some of my favourite characters have left the show, McSteamy (a beautiful role by Eric Dane) and Callie Torres, but most got the exit they deserved. McSteamy was a complex character with at first a one track mind (which lead to so many funny and full of innuendo scenes) who later turned into a family man. Who would have thought. I wouldn’t. Yes I am also critical I rather would have seen McDreamy not been killed off but that they just divorced. But I guess they wanted to make sure the actor couldn’t return to the show (there were some issues on set). Whatever the reason might have been I miss McDreamy. But even when I don’t agree with a decision from the writers or showrunners I don’t complain that much. They have usually the big picture for the episodes/seasons ahead in their minds. And I for one am anxious to find out what that will be.

So as we enter year thirteen at Grey-Sloan Memorial let us find out what Meredith will encounter. Will she start to date Nathan Riggs like a normal person or shall she date him Grey-style. Only time will tell. (And Meredith of course since she narrates the show.)

Scoop: Lucifer Season 2

wp-1464918241229.jpeg

So Mum is definitely the word going to into Lucifer season 2, given that the last episode shows Lucifer and Amenadiel’s mother has escaped hell. The role of mom is yet to be cast. Joe Henderson, Lucifer’s show runner says “For a while we’ve seen that Amenadiel’s been trying to be ‘God’s favorite son’, emulating himself after his father. So you can imagine that Lucifer might be ‘his mother’s son'”. We should also read into the fact that Maze went MIA after saving Amenadiel. The EP also wishes to feature more of Dr Linda (Rachael Harris) in season 2 with her serving as a confidante for other characters in the show.

There is still much debate as to who and what mom is, the majority at this stage say it’s Lilith who is the first female demon and at this stage everyone is remaining tight lipped as to who will play mommy dearest in season 2. I am very much looking forward to seeing how season 2 plays out after season 1 there is plenty of questions to be answered as well as plenty of avenues go down story wise.

Lucifer season 2 is set to air in fall 2016 in its usual time slot, which is Monday’s at 9:00-10:00pm Eastern/Pacific time.

Rick Famuyiwa To Direct The Flash Movie

The Flash movie is about to be Dope!

Warner Bros. has appointed Rick Famuyiwa as the director for its superhero epic, The Flash. Famuyiwa is best known for writing and directing the critically acclaimed 2015 Sundance pic, Dope. The filmmaker has been receiving significant Emmy-season buzz for directing Confirmation, the HBO drama which stars Kerry Washington and Wendell Pierce.

The news come after BatmanNews made a stray observation on Rick Famuyiwa’s twitter account, a few days ago. In short period of time, Famuyiwa‘s account started following Geoff Johns, Wonder Woman, Gal Gadot, Suicide Squad, Zack Snyder, Ben Affleck, Ray Fisher and Jason Mamoa, all who are part of the DC Extended Universe.

Seth Grahame-Smith (Author of Pride& Prejudice & Zombies, and Abraham Lincoln) penned the script from a treatment by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (The Lego Movie, 21  Jump Street). Grahame-Smith was originally going to make his directorial debut with The Flash, but left due to creative differences with the studio.

The Flash movie will star Ezra Miller( Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) as the titular character. It will arrive in cinemas in March 16 2018.
