Endemol Shine Studios picked up Mirror’s Edge TV Show Rights

Endemol Shine Studios have acquired the TV show rights for Mirror’s Edge. There has been talk of an action driven series based on the futuristic dystopia of Mirror’s Edge, a well known EA title. Nothing is yet certain of course, but Sharon Hall, the president of Endemol Shine Studios have said: “We clearly see Mirror’s Edge as a franchise for the global TV audience,”[…]“It has a strong female protagonist, a wildly rabid fan base and a worldwide brand that Electronic Arts and EA DICE have done an amazing job establishing.” Endemol Shine Studios is known for e.g.Biggest Loser, Hell on Wheels and Master chef.

This is not the fisrt time that a video game has been attemped to adapt into a TV series, Battlefield had been prepared for a TV show but that never happened. We also heard that there has been some talk of a Titanfall TV series.

The Flash Finale Reveal – The Man In The Iron Mask

A few months ago in The Flash episode 14 of season 2 — ‘Escape from Earth-2,’ we were introduced to an unidentifiable character: the man in the iron mask. This character was a prisoner of Zoom’s and was held hostage in, what I like to call, the Zoom Cave. He couldn’t talk due to the iron mask, but continued to tap on the glass of his prison wall. Barry and Jesse successfully had a crack at translating what the message was: J-A-Y. They assumed that the imprisoned man was simply telling them what they already knew: that Jay was Zoom. The poor, hapless soul. The frustration must have been killing him.

[I recommend watching the season 2 finale before reading this spoiler paragraph.] Theories spewed out of fans — I read theories from Wally West to Henry Allen, but oh no. None of them were correct. As of last night’s season finale, the man in the iron mask was revealed to be the real Jay Garrick. So who is this real Jay Garrick? A heroic, resident speedster from Earth-3, captured by Zoom. It also turns out that he is Henry Allen’s doppelgänger. You most certainly read that correctly.

Why choose John Wesley Shipp to be the real Jay Garrick? Perhaps in tribute to the actor because he played Barry Allen in CBS’s The Flash from 1990 to 1991.

The Villain For Sherlock Series 4 Has Been Cast – And He’s Perfect!

Ever since the Victorian special episode, waiting for news about the next series of Sherlock has been like waiting for flying cars to exist – we can hope really hard, but it doesn’t mean we’re going to get anything.

Except now we have something! Just a small thing, hardly anything really, but it’ll be enough to keep me excited and hopeful (I swear, they plan it like this).

But I won’t keep you waiting any longer.

We have a villain for Series 4!

That’s right, you read that correctly. Toby Jones (Captain America, Harry Potter, Hunger Games), who’s perhaps one of my all-time favorite creepy villain actors, will be filling the role of Sherlock’s newest nemesis.

Exactly which villain he’ll be playing, however, is still a mystery.

The only information that writer, EP, and co-creator Steven Moffat has for us is this: “Delighted to have Toby Jones on board, bringing to life one of [Sir Arthur Conan] Doyle’s finest villains.”

But which villain?!

The anticipation for the next series of Sherlock is killing me – just throw me off Reichenbach now and I’ll return, perfectly on time yet terribly inconveniently, for Series 4. The fact that we’ve still got a year until it airs… the anticipation is just awful (and yet, so very delicious, don’t you agree?).

All we know about Series 4 is that Sherlock is back in London (or at least on British soil), and that John and Mary Watson are preparing for having a child.

I can’t wait to see what terrible things Toby Jones has in store for our beloved characters.

But more than that, I can’t wait to see Sherlock’s reaction to a tiny human – messy, illiterate, illogical things that they are.

Sadly, there’s no teaser or promo trailer for Series 4 yet, so here’s the trailer for the Victorian special episode that I mentioned at the beginning. Hope you enjoy!

Frequency Gets a TV Show Remake… And It Looks Amazing!

Tune in to this blast from the past remake about a literal blast from the past (but not the 1999 Brendan Fraser film of the same name).

Frequency, a film from the year 2000, is getting a television show reboot.

Now that you know that, reread the first sentence a few times. I promise it makes sense.

For those not in the know, Frequency is a fantastic thriller starring Jim Caviezel (Person of Interest, The Passion of the Christ) and Dennis Quaid (The Day After Tomorrow, Pandorum).

The story revolves around a long-dead father and his now-grown son, connected over time via an old radio and a freak electrical storm.

Caviezel (the son), who’s now a cop, attempts to change the past by saving his father (Quaid) from the fire that killed him when Caviezel was just a kid.

But in doing so, they spark a chain reaction that spirals into chaos. I’ll try not to spoil anything else, but if you’re interested, here’s the trailer:

But that’s enough about the film. CW is now remaking the film into a television series – but it seems the only thing they’ve taken from the original is the concept, as the stories are drastically different.

For one, it’s about a daughter and her father. Peyton List (The Tomorrow People, Flashforward) will play Raimy Sullivan, with the role of her father, Frank Sullivan, played by Riley Smith (Radio, New York Minute).

Two, not only is she a cop – she’s a cop following in her father’s footsteps (in the original film, the father was a fireman).

Three, her father was killed while on the trail of a serial killer – a serial killer that’s been silent until the old ham radio connects Raimy and Frank through time.

After she warns Frank of his impending death, she somehow – improbably, impossibly – manages to save her father’s life. But things devolve rapidly from there, as the daughter’s life begins to fall apart.

Instead of her father dying, her mother dies at the hands of the serial killer. Instead of having a loving almost-fiancé, he has no idea who she is and has never met her.

Is there a way for her to fix her life, catch the serial killer, and save her mother and her father?

I don’t know… but I’m extremely excited to find out.

Penny Dreadful SN3 EP4 – ‘A Blade Of Grass’

Welcome back Dreadfuls!

This episode was much more cerebral than previous episodes. It gave us plenty of backstory on “the White Room”; the orderly who attended Vanessa and the bond that grew between them; the treatments she was forced into; and her torment by both Lucifer and another known to her only as The Master.

The episode opens in Dr. Seward’s office, where Vanessa is under hypnosis, telling Seward the story of her time in “The White Room”. While in the hypnotised state, she can see and speak with Dr. Seward, because her mind is in both realities.

She was an unwilling patient, committed by her parents and subjected to treatment for her “illness” for 5 months. The only human contact she had in that room was the orderly who attended to her needs. The orderly is the man we know as John Clare, later known as Caliban – Frankenstein’s monster. Initially, she refuses to eat and will not speak. John begs her to eat, and tells her that there will be consequences if she does not.

She tells Dr. Seward that she wanted to die, because of her betrayal of her friend Mina, and because she is evil.

As she becomes more used to John’s presence, she begins to eat without being force fed, makes eye contact, and eventually speaks to him. She claims that she is being tortured. She doesn’t know if it is night or day, there are no windows and the light is always on. John tells her that the time is whatever she wants it to be, and that they are trying to make her well. He tells her that it is against the rules for him to tell her his name. But he does warn her that the next treatment is hydrotherapy. The next day, as she sits wet and shivering, he brings a blanket with her food, but when she is warm and dry, he has to take it away because it is against the rules. John is already becoming invested in Vanessa not merely as a patient, but as a human being in distress and is showing an inclination to break the rules for her. Vanessa attacks him when he removes the blanket, with the result that the next time he sees her, she is in a straitjacket.

However, she is recognizing that he is coming to care for her, and she for him. John spoon-feeds her. He explains that it is science, not torture, and that it is meant to make her better. She retorts that it is meant to make her normal – compliant, obedient, a cog in an intricate social machine. John disagrees, as none of the women he knows are cogs; she calls them freaks. John tells her his wife is neither a freak nor a cog. Vanessa thinks that God has forgotten her, that he cannot find her. She has no name or purpose. John still won’t divulge much of a personal nature, but does warn her that the treatments don’t get any easier, and asks her to get better. She tells him that she can’t get better if she is not ill. He asks for an explanation. She tells him that no one believes her, not Dr. Banning and not her parents, but tells him that she was touched by Satan because neither she nor her faith were strong enough. John tells her about his son and how when he got ill, metal spoons hurt him, so he and his wife use a wooden spoon to feed him. She wonders at the wooden spoon he is using for her, and he tells her that he brought it from home, even though it is against the rules.

As John leaves the room, he tells her that he does believe her, because he was there. He turns, and shows Vanessa his demon eyes. Lucifer is speaking through him.

Vanessa, freaking out, demands that Dr. Seward bring her out of the hypnotic state. Dr. Seward says she can’t. She has tried, has even burned her hand with a cigarette. Vanessa is in a fugue state, and will only come out when she reaches the heart of her trauma. Seward advises her to keep going and assures her that she will not leave Vanessa for anything in the world. The only way out is through.

Vanessa cannot speak, because she has been gagged as well as straitjacketed. When next John comes in, he gently leads her to the chair, seats her and takes the gag off. He is sickened by what Vanessa is going through and has come to agree that it is torture. He brushes her hair out, while telling her that they would sack him if they knew. Then he applies makeup that his wife has given him. He has talked about Vanessa to his wife which is against the rules. He would leave if jobs weren’t so scarce, but he also doesn’t want to leave Vanessa alone. He holds a mirror up for her to see who she is. He goes on to break more rules, sharing information about himself and his family, reading children’s poetry to her. Vanessa cries silently. At the end of the visit, John puts everything back as it was so that their interaction remains secret. He tells her it is Christmas today. Another rule broken.

V and J

Vanessa is lonely and despondent, her parents have stopped coming and she feels like she will never get out of there. She is so desperate for human contact that she tries to seduce John on his next appearance. She claims she should have died a virgin, like Joan of Arc who sang while she burned. John, growing more distressed, tells her that they will turn to surgery if she doesn’t show signs of improvement. He goes on to describe graphically what will happen, both during the surgery and after. “Do you know what they are, all of them? A broken thing. Ms. Ives, you have to get better.” Vanessa shakes her head, so he begs her to pretend to be cured. She asks him if he would want his son to be anything other than he is. “Would you want him to pretend? Then don’t ask it of me.” John sits down with Vanessa and tells her that though he is a stupid man, he will listen, and invites her to tell him why the Devil would be interested in her.

She doesn’t know so asks him “If you were Lucifer, why would you be interested in someone?”. John says “That’s easy. Because I love you.” But it is not John speaking, it is Lucifer with his demon eyes. He names himself. A shadow serpent coils around the walls, and around her. He asks her if God’s mercy has touched her life. She kneels in a prayerful attitude, and tells him that her God is merciful, and that He will not abandon her. Lucifer claims that He already has, that she is not even a blade of grass to Him. He invites her to “be as she was with him before there was time, before the Scorpion crawled and the Adder hissed. Give yourself to me freely.” At this a soft, menacing laughter echoes around the room. Lucifer backs into a corner. This is the other, who also appears in John Clare’s form. Vanessa demands a name, but this other only says that she can read it on his tomb. The other addresses Lucifer as his brother, mocking him for his insignificance. Lucifer berates him for the eating of flesh and drinking of blood.

V and D

The other seduces Vanessa through her baser desires. “You are a thing of the flesh, like me. You are powerful. Become the wolf, the bat, the scorpion. Be who you are. Give me your flesh, your blood, be my bride and then all light will end, and the world will live in darkness. Such is our power, such is our Kingdom, such is my kiss. In this mortal world they will lock you away in rooms like this, they will brand you a freak and a sorceress. I love you for who you are, Vanessa.” Vanessa asks him “What name do I whisper to you Beloved?” “I am the demon, the dragon, my name is Dracula.” Vanessa breaks away, and tells them that both her body and soul are promised to another. The brothers voice a litany of threats; she stands her ground. “I am no more than a blade of grass, but I am. You think you know evil? Here it stands”. Reciting something that sounds very much like the Verdis Diablo of last season, she banishes the brothers into the shadows. She wakes from this vision to find John asking “Well, why would the Devil be interested in you?”. She claims tiredness, so John leaves.

Dr. Seward tells her she can come out of hypnosis now, but Vanessa refuses. She is not yet done.

The next time John brings her food, she has a shaved head. She tells John she tried to counterfeit normality. But when the Dr. asked about her faith, she told him the truth. John tells her he is leaving. He was at home helping his son build a model of an exploring ship, and his son asked where they went. John told him that they would explore everywhere, including the frozen north. When his son wondered if people lived there, he said no. It was too cold and lonely for people to live there. Then he realized that he knows one person who lives where it is cold and lonely all the time, and this knowledge caused him such grief he couldn’t stop crying. He has tendered his resignation. But he will stay long enough so that the last person Vanessa sees before her surgery will be someone who loves her.

Vanessa comes out of hypnosis on her own. Dr. Seward has filled an ashtray with butts, and her desk with notes. She pours them both a drink and asks what Vanessa remembers. “Images like a dream, yes?” but Vanessa says “No. Everything. You once said we name things so they don’t frighten us. I’m not frightened. His name is Dracula.”

Fade to Black.

This episode explains a lot about Vanessa’s response to John Clare as Caliban. And Caliban’s response to Vanessa. It’s like a muscle memory. John was the only one who showed her compassion during her time in the White Room, he is the one who kept her sane. She is the one who touched his humanity, both in her time in the White Room, and later, when they met in the Cholera Clinic, neither knowing the other. And I believe that he will become a valuable ally in her fight against Dracula, even if they don’t remember their past relationship to each other.

And so we come to the end of this review. Look into your crystal ball.  Do you feel Vanessa and John Clare will come to remember each other? Is it necessary to the story that they do? The Name’s Bond, Jane Bond

My Dr No Canvas

I’m huge fan of the original James Bond movies and I own every Bond movie made, I also have a collection of the cars that were used in the movies and I have a huge canvas print of the The first James Bond Film – Dr No with Sean Connery as 007. Now most women feel that James Bond was a chauvinistic womanizer and yes I see their point of view but as a woman I loved these movies they had great fight scenes, awesome gadgets and lets not forget plenty of gorgeous women that definitely can hold their own when it comes down to it, and with Daniel Craig not want to play 007 again the coveted role is up for grabs, personally I didn’t think Daniel Craig made the best Bond he lacked that certain charm and with the times changing perhaps so to should the role of Bond. There is no time like the present to explore having a female Bond – Jane Bond.

It has always been something I have wanted to see, a woman playing Bond and over the years I have had some awesome women in mind, however the best person to be Jane Bond in my opinion is Gillian Anderson she ticks all the right boxes of what Jane Bond needs to possess, She needs to be somewhat emotionally void (We have seen Gillian do this with Stella Gibson in The Fall), She needs to be strong, intelligent, desired by both men and women and can look sexy in a tailored suit as well as a dress.

What happens to the Bond girls you ask? Well for me the Bond girls are also an integral part so there would still need to be Bond girls along with some Bond boys and a mixture of men and women villain’s. Twitter recently had voting with the hashtag #NextBond and Gillian emerged as the clear fan-favorite, “The Fall and The X Files” actress responded to all the hype and excitement by tweeting a fan-made Bond poster (allegedly made by photographer Karla Carbajal) featuring herself.

Will it ever happen? I don’t know, but me and thousands of other Bond fans really hope that Hollywood has been listening and give the people what they want to see… Gillian Anderson as Bond, Jane Bond!

Videogame Movies, Yay or Nay??

Movie adaptations of videogames have always sparked up controversy among gamers. Most adaptations manage to offend every fan in existence (Resident Evil comes to mind), while a select few actually look really good (the Warcraft film, can’t wait to see that!). So the movie industry is still and will always keep making them in hopes of convincing gamers to watch more movies.

Pinheads Ep. 1 – Sweet Charity (Featuring Obscurus Lupa)

Pinheads follows the misadventures of radio station employees – awkward metal-head Charlie, egocentric Steven and laid back glutton Brian – as they hang out at the bowling alley managed by lunatic Bernie and his neurotic son Kenny.

In this season premiere, Steven unwittingly agrees to spend the night in a coffin for charity after a caller tricks him.

Camp WWE Is Worth The Trip

If you’re a wrestling fan looking for an even sillier diversion, Camp WWE might be the trip for you. The titular camp is the animated home to childhood, foul-mouthed versions of John Cena, Steve Austin, the Undertaker and others. The camp is owned by Vince McMahon, with his teen daughter Stephanie and future son-in-law Triple H serving as head counselors. Sergeant Slaughter and Ric Flair round out the cast.

It’s a niche concept – an animated comedy for adult wrestling fans – but it has enough charm and immature humor to get a smile out of even the most strident haters.

The show is produced by Seth Green, whose Robot Chicken turned the concept of the pop culture reference on its head. The Simpsons and Family Guy made jokes about pop culture. With Robot Chicken, pop culture was the joke. Green’s the perfect choice to produce an animated in-joke about wrestling. It’s fairly well-written, with all the childish humor you’d expect.

The show shines best, though, in its choice of casting Vince McMahon, Ric Flair, Sergeant Slaughter and other wrestling legends as themselves. Each plays a pivotal role in the currently-released four episodes. McMahon is particularly good, somehow channeling the spirit of Ted Knight as he ruins the lives of everyone around him. Flair floats in his robe, humps inanimate objects and has relations with a bear. Slaughter is an immediate retro trip, instantly bringing his GI Joe days to mind.

The show falters, though, when the wrestlers aren’t played by themselves. The dialogue is fine, a wrestling-centric South Park without the message. The actors playing the campers do a good job, but they sound like they would on a kids’ show. If you’ve always wanted to hear the Rugrats swear, you won’t mind too much.

Camp WWE is a fine addition to the WWE Network, a unique, often laugh-out-loud take on some beloved icons. It would be nice to see the team of Green and WWE stay together for future projects. How about the intergalactic adventures of the Rock?
