Gambit Movie Delayed

Gambit

Channing Tatum’s X-Men Spin-off Gambit has been pushed back with production delayed until late 2016.

Sources out of The Hollywood Reporter cite rewrites as the reason for the push-back which is unsurprising given how many directors have jumped on board during the pre-production phase, looking to put their stamp on the popular X-Men characters first solo outing.

Edge of Tomorrow Director Doug Liman will still helm the X-Men movie after taking over the reins from Rise of the Planet of the Apes Director Rupert Wyatt late last year. Lima however will first direct The Wall, a physiological thriller produced by Amazon studios, while re-writes are taking place.

Gambit is currently without a release date after 20th Century Fox removed the film from its upcoming list of movies. The films original release was for sometime in 2017 but 20th Century won’t be without a superhero film on its slate as Hugh Jackman’s final X-Men film Wolverine 3 will still hit cinemas on March 3 next year.

“Pop’s” SN1-EP10

Lucifer and Decker are investigating the suspected poisoning death of a well-known chef/owner of an upscale Mexican restaurant, whilst investigating Decker get a surprise visit from her Mother who has just arrived back in LA and seem Lucifer is clearly a little taken by Mrs Decker as they flirt with each other and he gets an invite to a “family dinner”. Decker and Lucifer start interviewing the staff including the chefs son (Manny Montana) and Lucifer is convinced that the son killed his father given their past relationship. Sous-chef Anne (Tara Summers) who would assume control of the restaurant if the son was out of the picture, tells Lucifer &Decker she would never hurt her boss, then suddenly she coughs up blood and collapses, meanwhile Maze turns up to see Dr Martin for help to make her “Normal” but well all know that’s a tall order!

We see Maze make her first friend but she’s not quite in the same age group of Maze. The family dinner doesn’t go to plain as Lucifer manages to piss everyone off including douchebag Dan. Decker and Lucifer realizes that the sous-chef Anne is the one who poisoned her boss but the poison was ment for his son, she worked hard for that restaurant and he was just going to give it to his son, she couldn’t let that happen, so she poisoned the son’s meal but, what she didn’t know is that he had become a vegetarian. Malcom reveals to Dan his plan’s to kill Lucifer, ordered by his own brother Amenadiel, as much as Dan dislikes Lucifer he tells Malcom he can’t let him kill Lucifer? Well didn’t see that on the cards, douchebag Dan looking out for Lucifer? Chole get’s a break up text from Dan, but they weren’t really back together so she drowns her sorrows with wine and ends up at Lucifer’s place sad, drunk, and flirty but to my surprise Lucifer says no??? Definitely not the ending I thought was going to happen that’s for sure!! Are you as surprised as I am or is it just me?

Well little devils that’s it for another week, make sure you check back next week for the crime fighting duo’s next case ‘St . Lucifer’ SN1-EP11

The Walking Dead SN6, EP15 – ‘ East ‘

east.jpg

This post contains spoilers.

Ok everyone, DEEP BREATHS here.  We all know that they can’t take out Darryl Dixon with an off-screen death.  So, we know he’s safe for at least this week.  We’ll get into that later, but something that huge had to be addressed at the top.

The plot points in this week’s penultimate episode resulted from the aftermath of the big events from the end of last week’s episode.  First, it was Carol’s decision to leave the group because she doesn’t want to have to kill anymore.  Secondly, it was the fallout from Denise’s untimely (and unnecessary) death.

I really liked the way the show opened.  We had a miniature mystery on our hands.  What’s with the car?  Who’s blood is that?  Why did Carol leave her rosary?  I don’t think the show fooled anyone into thinking that Carol died as a result of that gun shot.  But it  was a great place to start.

Next, we saw Carol preparing to make her move.  In typical Carol fashion, she was well prepared with supplies and weapons.  We also saw her mentally preparing to leave as she zoned out Talbot, in a effort to detach herself.  That was a nice touch and showed that she really does care about him.  It’s a pretty crappy move to just leave Talbot with a “Dear John” letter, but at least gave him a going away present.

They’ve made a lot of great choices with music this season and this week was no exception.  The use of Johnny Cash’s “It’s All Over” perfectly set the mood for the montage we saw next and the episode at large.  Not only was it appropriate for Carol leaving Talbot, but we also saw Abraham and Sasha getting a dirty look from Rosita to book end the scene.  I also enjoyed the larger symbolism of the song as we panned around town and saw some of the others.  We saw Glenn and Maggie sharing an intimate moment in the shower that was interrupted by her bruises reminding them both of how much danger they face.  That was followed by a shot of Darryl being broken up over Denise’s death.  We also saw Carl picking up a gun with a barbed wire baseball bat carved into the grip.  As comic readers know, this is a small hint of things to come.  We have to wonder if “It’s All Over” for the people of Alexandria as well.

We then saw Rick and Michonne together and having the oddest post-coital snack I think  I’ve ever seen.  I like apples too, but yikes.  I liked their discussion of how things are getting better in Alexandria.  But, it boarded on over confidence.  Rick specifically said “this won’t be like before” and that “the world is ours.”  This shows that group is prepared, or at least thinks they are, but it demonstrates that they may have lost their edge.  Rick is practically begging for something bad to happen.  This scene also subtly reminded us that Maggie is mostly in-charge now.  Which is probably for the best considering that she seems more worried about retaliation from the Saviors then Rick.  I would have thought that Carol would have told Rick that they didn’t get Negan before she left, but he’s acting like nothing can touch them.

This is all followed by Darryl quickly leaving camp.  Obviously, he feels responsible for Denise’s death because he let Dwight live.  Now he wants to avenge her and make up for his failure to kill Dwight when he had the chance.  This ties into an interesting theme that has become more and more prevalent in the back half of this season, whether the group should be killing people preemptively.  Historically, they’ve been very reactive in defending themselves from other people.  But now, there seems to be a shift in that thinking.  The most obvious example is their willingness to attack the Saviors on behalf of the Hilltop before really knowing that they were bad.  Earlier in the show’s run, Rick never would have agreed to that but now we see that this world has hardened him and the others.  We also had numerous mentions “I should have killed them” from Darryl, specifically referring to Dwight.

Glenn, Rosita, and Michonne quickly chase after Darryl in an attempt to “shut that shit down” as Abraham so eloquently put it.  Abraham has been great the last few episodes, his one liners have never been better and he’s finally starting to show some personality.  Three weeks ago I swore that he had one foot in the grave and I would have been glad to be rid of him.  Now though, I hope he’s around for a while.  As for the Darryl rescue team, I got the feeling that at least one of those three won’t be returning to Alexandria.

Talbot finally tells Rick that Carol left after what seemed like an eternity.  I know it was probably that morning but, as usual, the show has trouble depicting time accurately.  It felt like he swung by Rick’s place in the late afternoon and he had no sense of urgency whatsoever.  I’ve had trouble buying their romance ever since it was established and the ho-hum way Talbot told Rick about Carol did not help matters.  But, I did enjoy how Talbot didn’t even argue about going when Rick and Morgan left to find Carol.  We all know those two are more than capable and he would just slow them down, even Talbot.

I loved the scene with Carol dealing with the five Saviors.  I, for one, never doubted Carol here.  I mean, we have her on one side and five random idiots on the other.  Carol wins that ten times out of ten.  Also, the “Mad Max” style VW she was driving was awesome.  Melissa McBride did a great job depicting Carol’s struggle between surviving and not wanting to kill.  She obviously didn’t want to kill those guys and it showed.  Sure, she was also trying to lull them into a false sense of security but the conflict in her showed.  She begged them to just walk away.  In the end though, they forced the issue and Carol dealt with them pretty easily.  Unfortunately though, her new found passiveness might be catching up to her, as she missed the fifth Savior. Time will tell if she should have killed that one too.   I also found it interesting that the Saviors knew where she came from and know Alexandria pretty well.  They’ve obviously been watching them regularly.  The question is for how long and whether the group brought all this attention on themselves.

Rick and Morgan looking for Carol was probably my favorite part of the episode this week.  It was subtle and quiet but it really underlined the focus of this half of the season.  On one hand we have the whole mantra of “I should have killed him” but then we were reminded by Morgan that Carl would have died if he had killed the Wolf like Rick wanted him to and that Carol came back from her exile to save the group from Terminus.  He talked about people coming back from doing bad things.  It was a nice reminder when the mindset of most of the group seems to be that anyone who is “bad” should be killed, no questions asked.  Right now, the group is at a tipping point.  Will they become as brutal as their environment or will they be able to rise above all the violence and death?  Can they “come back” from all they’ve done to survive?  Rick may be coming around to Morgan’s way of thinking, but their eventual run-in with Negan could change that.  All of these discussions beg the question, if they do give in and keep killing more and more easily, are they still the good guys?  Should we still be rooting for them?  These are really interesting questions that I hope they continue to explore next season.

We end on the Darryl search party and Darryl himself.  Glenn and company caught up to Darryl pretty fast and got back into trouble almost as quickly.  I enjoyed Glenn’s speech about getting back to town and protecting what they have, but it reminded me a little too much of Denise’s speech from last week and that is a bit troubling.  It was a nice juxtaposition of logic and emotion.  It was also interesting how the show seemed to “punish” Glenn and Michonne for doing the right thing and going back to protect the town.  As I said at the top, I don’t believe for a second that Darryl is dead.  At worst, he’s  going to turn out to be mortally wounded.  I mean, Dwight himself even said he’d be fine.  So, count on seeing Darryl  next week.  I do think that this ending was a much better version of what they tried to do with Glenn and the magic dumpster.

To wrap up some of the smaller stuff, I like the direction that Maggie and Enid are going.  They seem to be creating a a nice sisterly bond that will hopefully develop Enid’s character a bit more.  It also seems like Maggie may have had a miscarriage or something else bad is happening with the baby.  This is sad and another in a long line of horrible things that have happened to Maggie over the course of the show.  All may not be lost though, they do know an OBG/YN doctor after all.

Overall, I really enjoyed this episode.  There was some really good character stuff and it was a great set up for what we all know is going to be a crazy season finale.  Get your tissue boxes ready.  All the players are in place for the group’s first encounter with Negan and there are sure to be fireworks and death.  In the preview, we got out first glimpse of Negan and Lucille and both look great.  You comic readers know what’s probably about to happen, we’ll just have to see whether the show makes any changes.  For those of you that have successfully avoided the spoilers, you may want to make an appointment with a grief counselor.

The Flash SN2 EP14 ‘Escape from Earth-2’

rsz_the-flash-season-2-episode-14-recap-escape-from-earth-2-845422.jpg

So it’s time for this weeks review of the flash and we find are selves back on Earth 2 to find out if Cisco and Dr Wells can save Barry and also if Jays condition can be helped by Caitlin.

At the beginning of the episode we see Zoom going around the city in search of Dr Wells by handing out pictures with the words bring me Wells on them. We then see Dr Wells watching the news and a clip of a building with the words bring me Wells in flames on the side of it.

Cisco arrives to back at Star labs to fill Dr Wells in on the sequence of events and that Barry has been taken prisoner by Zoom. We see Earth 2 Barry has woken up from being knocked out at the beginning of the last episode. Just as Dr Wells and Cisco are about to explain what has been going on Zoom arrives and the trio head for Dr Wells hidden time room, Zoom manages to figure out where the hidden room is and enters but the three of them are nowhere to be seen it turns out Dr Wells has some sort of visual gun that projects a fake wall to hide behind.

The three of them leave Star labs and head to the police HQ where they fill Earth 2 Iris in on what has been happening. Earth 2 Barry has an alga rhythm to triangulate a point where a meta human may be hiding and uses it to track down Killer Frost in order to gain her help in finding Barry.

rsz_flanked-the-flash-s2e14.jpg

The the four of them head off to the woods on the edge of the city to track her down. At the beginning she does not seem to be interested in helping them and attacks them all instead and eventually they manage to surround her before she can hurt Iris. After Cisco manages to talk some sense into her by stating that Zoom killed the man she loves and she agrees to show them where his hideout is located.

rsz_the-flash-season-2-episode-14-recap-escape-from-earth-2-845433.jpg

We see Barry and Jessie trying to figure out what the other prisoner is tapping on the glass of there cell. They eventually figure out that he is using a form of alphabet that POW prisoners used to communicate. They get as far as Jay and Barry asks if the person means Jay Garrick and they start nodding but then seems upset when Barry states that he didn’t come with them.

Just as they are about to try and get some more information out of there cell mate Zoom turns up and advises the prisoner not to talk to them again. Barry advises Zoom that he will find a way out of his cell and destroy Zoom, just as he finishes his threat Zoom phases through the cell wall and advises Barry he only needs him barely alive to steal his speed force and proceeds to give Barry a beating. He then rushes off in search if Dr Wells and Barry seems to think he has shown him how to escape although Barry tries many times to try and phase through the wall but cannot seem to replicate the effect and it appears this is down to a frequency issue much like in the last episode with Ciscos powers.

rsz_the-flash-saison-2-episode-14-video-promo

Dr Wells, Cisco, Iris, Barry and Killer frost arrive at Zooms lair and it appears to be a huge cavern dug into a cliff side that only a speedster would be able to reach well apart from Killer frost who creates a giant frost column for them to climb up. The team finally reach Barry and they manage to free Jessier but Barry is still unable to phase through the cell wall and advises the team to leave him behind. Earth 2 Barry is not having any of it and advises him that he can do anything he puts his mind to he just has to believe he can do it as Barry concentrates on what he wants he manages to phase through the wall. Barry does not want to leave the other prisoner behind but before he can figure out a way of setting them free Zoom arrives and thanks killer frost for bringing them all to him. He then pushes Dr Wells and the others out of the way and grabs Jessie by the throat and says “I told you I would kill you in front of your father” but before he can kill her Killer frost hits him with a freeze blast.

rsz_1-jpg.jpg

Cisco thanks her for her help before she advises him that he should get out of there while he can as she is not sure how long she can hold Zoom. Barry promises the other prisoner that he will be back for them. The team arrive back at star labs and Dr Wells advises Iris and Earth 2 Barry that they need to leave Central city to avoid Zoom coming back for them, Dr Wells also tells Jessie that they also need to leave as they won’t be safe on Earth 2 and they plan to go back with Barry and Cisco just as the alarm is sounded it appears Zoom has managed to escape from Killer Frost’s ice blast.

rsz_the-flash-season-2-episode-14-recap-escape-from-earth-2-845428.jpg

Back on Earth 1 we have seen the return of the meta human Geomancer who has still been causing issues there and has been destroying buildings in order to try and bring out the flash. We see Caitlin has been working on a better version of Velocity 8 after she discovered the last time they used the formula is caused more harm to Jay’s cells she eventually creates Velocity 9 and gives this to Jay when Geomancer collapses a hospital and Jay manages to save everyone involved.

Geomancer eventually tracks Jay down too Star labs but as he is not around he settles for trying to hurt Caitlin and Iris he knocks Caitlin unconscious and then turns his sites to Iris, just as he is about to causes another tremor he is whacked with a shock collar it appears she wasn’t as badly hurt as we thought and Joe arrives to take Geomancer to jail but in causing all the tremors he has caused the last breach to become unstable. Jay says that the only way he they can fix the breach is for Jay to causes a vortex around the breach while Joe resets the containment walls and this is successful just in time for the Velocity 9 to wear off.

rsz_2fndlvo5c

Cisco and Jessie are the first two through the portal but it appears Barry and Dr Wells are taking longer than they should be and we go back to Earth 2 to see Zoom holding Dr Wells by the throat. Dr Wells reaches in his pocket and grabs a syringe before plunging it into Zooms chest just as Barry manages to grab Dr Wells and head into the portal and make it back to home. Jay is waiting on the other side the the implosion device to close the breach as he chucks this into the breach the whole team are celebrating but as Jay has his back to the breach Zoom thrusts his hand through Jays chest and drags him back to Earth 2 much to the horror of the group and the episode comes to an end.

Arrow SN4 EP13 – ‘The Sins Of The Father’

rsz_arrow-season-4-nyssa-vs-merlyn.jpg

So it’s time for my review on the Arrow and this week the story revolves around Oliver’s mission to save Thea’s life and the feud between Malcolm and Nyssa for control of the league of shadows. Also in the episode we have more flash backs of Olive’s time on Lian Yu and we also get to learn more about Felicity’s dad aka The Calculator.

So at the end of episode 12 we saw Nyssa approach Oliver advising him she has a cure that will save Thea in the form of an elixir called the lotus but in order for her to give it to Oliver he would have to kill Malcolm Merlyn. Now Nyssa’s request is brought from selfish need as the only reason she wants Malcolm dead is so that she can gain control of the league of shadows. Oliver pleads with her to give him the cure to save Thea he even brings up the fact that they are husband and wife and that Thea is also her family.

Oliver arranges a meeting with Malcolm to try and talk him into giving up his leadership of the league in order to save Thea’s life. Malcolm is not very interested in giving up his leadership as he does not believe that Nyssa has the lotus elixir and tells Oliver that he may be very handsome but he’s not very smart. Oliver sends Laurel to try and reason with Nyssa in order to try and gain the lotus or at least some form of proof that she actually has the elixir. Laurel tries to appeal to Nyssa sense of family values by trying to bring Sara into the conversation as well as tells her that everything that has happened has been because of her Father. Nyssa gives Laurel a sample of the lotus which she takes back as proof and in wasting no time Oliver gives itto Thea in front of Malcolm and we see her chest wound heal.

rsz_sins_of_the_father_1.jpg

Malcolm agrees to meet with Nyssa to hand over the ring giving her leadership of the league but in true Malcolm style this is all a ploy and we see a group of assassins come from behind him and a fight ensues between both sides. Nyssa flees with her group of assassins and Malcolm and his team give chase only for there path to be blocked by Oliver and Diggle telling Malcolm that if he wants Nyssa he will need to go through him. Back at Arrow HQ we see a very angry Oliver trying to figure out why Malcolm has done this and the team are unable to locate him or his assassins until Felicity advises there has been breach and someone is with Thea, Oliver rushes down to her aid only to find Malcolm checking up on her.

rsz_arrow_0

Oliver asks Malcolm if being Ra’s al Ghul is more important to him than the life of his own daughter, Malcolm replies that the reason he is reluctant to give up his position is that he knows what the league is capable of in the hands of the wrong people. He then says to Oliver ‘What would you do if Damian Dahrk told you to hang up the hood and let him complete his plan for Star city in order to save his son William?’ Oliver has a shocked look on his face which Malcolm notices and says ‘I’m Ra’s al Ghul I know everything there is to know about you’

Oliver sends Laurel out again to try and locate Nyssa and bring her to Arrow HQ in order to try and find another way to make her part with the lotus. Laurel eventually tracks her down and refuses to let her pass unless she can see reason this is short lived as some of Malcolm’s assassins show up to try and take out Nyssa and her men a fight ensues in the street and there are casualties on both sides and even some of the public are hit with arrows.Oliver and Diggle arrive to lend a hand and once the assassins have been seen to Oliver knocks Nyssa unconscious and takes her to a cell at the HQ. We find out that Nyssa is scared that she will not be able to defeat Malcolm on her own and this is why she has been asking Oliver to do this for her it is finally decided that there is only one way to end this and that is in true league style of a trial by combat.

rsz_arrow-sins-of-father-office1.jpg

The smoke signal is sent and both sides and all of team arrow arrive on a roof top for the final show down, Malcolm makes a remark that in the interest of Nyssa’s dignity they shall forgo the removal of shirts. Just as the trial is about to begin Oliver shouts wait and announces that as Nyssa’s husband he will fight in her place in the trial much to the shock of everyone involved. The fight starts and after a very even fight between the two Oliver gains the upper had and disarms Malcolm sending him to his knees, Oliver takes the final swing of the sword but instead of killing Malcolm he chops off his hand with the ring on and hands it to Nyssa. Nyssa gives Oliver the rest of the lotus elixir and we see Thea brought back from the brink of death completely unaware of what has happened.

rsz_arrow-sins-of-the-father-s4-e13-recap-review-837131

At the end of the episode we see a meeting between Oliver, Nyssa, Laurel and Malcolm only to see Nyssa drop the ring of the league of shadows into a fire and advising all three of them that she has disbanded the league and that her father will no longer be responsible for hurting anyone else. Malcolm turns to Oliver after this and advises that he is not going to kill Oliver as this would be to quick of a mercy and that he has other plans to make him suffer before his death. It doesn’t take long and we see Malcolm meet up with Darhk and advise him that there is someone Oliver Queen loves more than Felicity and that is his son William. (Maybe Oliver would have been better off killing Malcolm when he had the chance.)

ring

Also in this episode we see a flashback once again of Oliver’s time on Lian Yu and we see that Oliver is still locked away in his cell with Vlad’s sister Taiana caring for him. Oliver is trying to make amends with Taiana for killing her brother and opens up about how he ended up on Lian Yu and the fact his dad sacrificed his life in order for Oliver to live so that he could correct his wrongs. He also shows her the stone that he brought out of his vision from the last episode stating that this is something that Reiter needs to find what he is looking for. She waste no time in grabbing the stone from Oliver and demanding to speak to Reiter immediately as he arrives he states that he is not usually summoned by his prisoners but Taiana states that she has something that he wants and shows him the stone he grabs it from her and disappears.

rsz_5g.jpg

We later see him return to thank him for the last piece of the map and he can now finally find what he has been looking for on the island, He also advises Oliver that he must rest and regain his strength as they start the dig tomorrow. Oliver looks a little confused by this as Reiter states that what he has been looking for is not in the heavens but in the ground beneath them.

rsz_arrow_1

The third story arc we see in this episode is between Felicity and her father who also happens to be the calculator. It starts off with the pair meeting for coffee and Felicity trying to find out why her father has left it for so long to make contact with her, he answers with he could not contact her due the police and FBI looking for him. He then states that they are not that different this is something that Felicity takes offence to as he was planning on killing thousands of people and she does what she does to stop people like him. He advises her that he never  intended to carry out the explosion and that he had put fail safes in place to stop that happening, this proves to much for Felicity and she decides to leave but before she can he hands her a flash drive with all the things he has done since he disappeared to show he has been doing some good.

Felicity calls her mum and as she arrives she can see that something is troubling her and Felicity comes clean and advises her that her father is back and that he said he has changed and wants a relationship with her. Her mum advises her that he is not a good man and will never change who he is, Felicity decides to put this to the test and invites her farther to Palmer tech to have an all access tour of the building. As you would imagine they end up in the tech lab of the building and he seems very interested in the work she has been doing since she has been there.

We later find out that after her father had left the lab he has planted a bug that was trying to download all the data files from Palmer tech so at least Felicity now has her answer on whether or not she can trust her father. Felicity invites him back to Palmer tech and immediately confronts him about this actions, just as he is trying to defend what he has done Felicity interrupts him and says she does not want him to be part of her life and that she had not other choice. He turns around to see Captain Lance arriving with two officers to place him under arrest for the crimes he has committed.

‘Kingsman 2’ Title and Plot Details Revealed!

kingsman-recruits

Kingsman: The Secret Service, the crime/sci-fi/spy movie released in 2015, raked in over $414 Million world-wide and received positive critical reception as one of the most bonkers spy movies to be released. Based on the comic book The Secret Service by Dave Gibbons and Mark Millar, the story focuses on members of a secret spy society trying to thwart a megalomaniac billionaire (Samuel L Jackson) who is planning a mass genocide. It was a welcome refresher in terms of British spy movies from the broody, super slick James Bond, and it’s no wonder that the sequel has been highly anticipated.

Today, details of the sequel have been released.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle is the official name of the movie and (much like it’s predecessor) the plot sounds absolutely insane.

The plot will see Eggsy (Taron Egerton) and Merlin (Mark Strong) head to the U.S.A. to work with the “Statesmen” – who’s secret hideaway is disguised as a whiskey distillery. Once there, they will be greeted by Ginger (Halle Berry) who will lead them to combat with the movies villain, Poppy (Julianne Moore.)

Matthew Vaughn, director, said whilst discussing the sequel with Empire that while he doesn’t see the need for another Church scene, this movie will feature “other sequences you’ve never seen before.”

Sadly, at this time Colin Firth has not been confirmed for the sequel, though Vaughn has mentioned trying to find a way to bring Harry Hart back to the movies – further casting for Kingsman: The Golden Circle is yet to be announced.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle is currently set for release on June 16 2017.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. SN3 EP13 – ‘Parting Shot’

This review contains spoilers.

aos_s3_logo

Last weeks episode finished off with Hunter and Bobby in the belly of a plane that Malick is riding off in, after his success in turning Anton Petrov to his “cause” and convincing him that Phil Coulson is the head of Hydra.

bobby_interogation

The episode opens on Bobby and Hunter being interrogated by Russian authorities. After a small sequence, we cut to Bobby and Hunter elsewhere – and a caption reads ’34 hours before’ – instantly, I’m excited. I’m a huge sucker for narratives where you’re presented with a current situation, and then the rest of the time is spent showing you how the characters got there.

bobby_and_hunter

Kickass, really great things about the episode:

This was a really Hunter and Bobby centric episode, and seeing them work together was actually really great. We haven’t had a hugely intense look at them working together in SHIELD so a whole episode dedicated to them? Awesome.

russian_bobby

It was also cool to see them discuss their relationship in terms of SHIELD, and them bringing up the sacrifices they’ve not only made as a couple (never getting to go away together, no honeymoon), but as people – namely, the fact SHIELD constantly makes alliances with people they shouldn’t, Ward being a prime example. They constantly talk about the ‘Greater Good’ but then they end up getting damaged later.

hunter_vs_inhuman

The fight scenes this episode were incredible – they were really wonderfully choreographed, as per usual with this series, and there were some really stand-out moments – slow-mo Daisy kicking ass, Daisy and Bobby fighting together, and Bobby and Hunter fighting off security guards. It’s just awesome.

daisy_bobby

The episode twist, of going from Espionage to Assassination real damn quick. I loved that the initial plan was infiltration and intel gathering, because SHIELD is in a terrible position, and if Russia thought America was coming in hostile on them, it would cause a lot more problems for just SHIELD. I also liked this weeks Inhuman – a man who could manifest his shadow as a sentient being. He was also a political Inhuman, and the first of his kind.

bobby_inhuman

Enjoyable family moments I loved:

So first things first, MACK IS BACK. After his mysterious just not, being around at all for the last episode, I was glad to have him and his sarcastic quips back. I also have a note about this particular exchange;

“You’re going to need some transport, is that going to be a problem?”
Insert Hunter punching a Russian man in the face-
“No, I think we’re good.”

What we also learn from this episode are that Hunter and Bobby are the King and Queen of bullshitting. The detective interrogating them says something along the lines to Hunter of “It’s impressive. How you can talk about absolutely nothing and make it sound like information” – that sounds an awful lot like most adults.

hunter_interogation

FitzSimmons are BACK! Finishing each others sentences and working together again – it’s really fantastic to see and it made me really excited. This was especially heightened by the fact that Hunter apparently shares nature documentaries about the planet dying with the two and gets them to watch them so they can all sit and discuss it together – absolutely adorable.

fitzsimmons

I think we all also know the ultimate team moment of this episode: the ending. But I’ll come to that later.

The “meh”/”why.” stuff;

This episode didn’t have many moments I didn’t like – but one moment I did sigh at was May’s speech to Hunter about how she’s still angry about him shooting Ward even when it could cost Andrew (SN3 EP4 – Devil’s You Know) – but then she talks about how SHIELD is for the great good? Don’t get me wrong – anyone and their dog knows Hunter’s choice was driven mostly by vengeance for Bobby, but considering Ward was the head of Hydra, and he had a metric tonne of weapons at his and Hydra’s disposal, I would honestly say he made a better call than risking Ward getting away. So I feel like that moment was a contradiction – but, it did lea to Hunter and May being friends again, and Hunter making quips later to her that she smiles at.

Overall, I really liked this episode – I feel like it’s my favorite so far of 3B. The narrative was great, the cinematography and fight choreography was really something else, and it was one of those great episodes where the team act like a family. I also felt like this episode, while seemingly filler, moved character issues forward a bit more. We had a major change in the teams layout, and it also gave a close look at just how precarious a position that SHIELD is in right now. This precarious position is only more heightened by the fact Malick has political influence all around the world – making him all the more formidable, because he is untouchable.

The final scene of this episode with The Spy’s Goodbye broke my heart. It was such a bittersweet ending, and by the time the second shot had been purchased for Hunter and Bobby’s table, I was an absolute mess.

spys_goodbye

It was such a beautiful way to say goodby to two really significant characters from the SHIELD roster, two agents that have come so far and become such an integral part of the team. It really solidified that these people aren’t just spies who work together – they’re a unit, they’e friends and they love each other. This final scene was so perfect, and a fitting farewell to two great Agents – for now, at least.

phils_goodbye

Seeing as their was no hide nor hair of HiveWard this episode (which surprised me considering his huge dramatic ending in The Inside Man), I imagine next episode will bring him forward. Given the ending of the episode featuring Malick’s daughter who wants to meet “someone” – and I can only assume that someone is Hive.

I’m hoping that from this point on, with the new team and information, we’ll start to see major progress and we’ll build up to an incredible, action-filled finale that this show has now become famous for.

The Flash SN2 EP13 – ‘Welcome to Earth 2’

rsz_why-dc-is-making-a-mistake-with-the-flash-movie-850x560

It’s time for this weeks review of The Flash and this week we finally get a trip to Earth 2 and we finally get to see what the what Meta humans they have in store for us. So without further ado lets get started.

So last week we saw Barry and the team agree to go to Earth 2 to help Dr Wells save his daughter from Zoom despite him betraying the team and giving some of Barry’s speed force to Zoom. The episode starts with Barry speeding his way around Central city closing all of the open breaches, all apart from the final one at Star labs which they will use to travel to Earth 2. As Barry, Dr Wells and Cisco get set to leave for Earth 2 we see Barry spend the evening with Joe and Iris and talks to them about why he has to help Dr Wells.

Just as the three are about to leave we see Cisco give Caitlin at letter to give to his family incase he does not return from the trip. The only way to reach Earth 2 is for Barry to speed through the last remaining breach whilst holding onto Dr Wells and Cisco, they are told not to pay any attention to anything they see while travelling through the breach. Barry speeds off through the portal but in doing so causes an energy surge to the breach and a piece of the containment field to come off rolling towards Caitlin but Jay manages to reach her just in time. Joe and Caitlin ask Jay what happened to which he replies when we closed all the other breaches there must have been a power surge when they used the last open breach and that if they cannot repair the containment field then Barry and Cisco will be trapped on Earth 2.

rsz_flash_0.jpg

We see Barry, Dr Wells and Cisco arrive safe and sound on Earth 2 in the basement of Star labs there are on there way to Dr Wells office and we see Barry and Cisco still caught up in arriving in earth 2 and how different things are. They make it Wells office and who do we see being interviewed on TV but none other than Earth 2 Barry Allen and it appears he is still a forensic scientist working for the CCPD if not more nerdy and wearing a bowtie and is still working with Detective West. Barry says he has an idea and before we no it he shoots off and arrives back at Star labs with his Earth 2 self who is seems to be more excited at being in Star labs and meeting Dr Wells than how he actually got there causing Barry to use a taser to knock out Earth 2 Barry in order to assume his identity to blend in on Earth 2 and gain some information about Earth 2.

Barry arrives at the CCPD to be greeted by Detective West in the form of Iris and not Joe so we see our first difference from Earth 1 and Earth 2 and it also turns out that Barry and Iris are married. The pair arrive back at there house which happens to be the same house Joe and Barry live in on Earth 1, Iris turns to Barry and says your mum called earlier and you can see Barry is shocked to learn that his mum is still alive on Earth 2 and wastes not time in calling her to hear her voice and have a conversation. The pair arrive to meet Earth 2 Joe and we find out that Joe is a lounge singer and not a cop and we also find out that Joe and Barry from Earth 2 do not get along as Joe blames Barry for Iris becoming a cop due to leaving the paper so that she could pay for Barry to get his degree and become a CSI.

We next get to see the Earth 2 versions of Caitlin and Ronnie and it appears that Caitlin is a meta human on Earth 2 and Ronnie is still Firestorm. We also find out that the pair are working for Zoom as they kill a group of bank robbers for pulling off a job without Zoom’s permission. The pair head off after this as Ronnie has received news that a group of breachers have arrived on Earth 2 and Zoom has tasked them with bringing them to him, the pair turn up at the night spot where Barry, Iris and Joe are as the have heard that this is where the breacher is hiding. Iris pulls her gun on Caitlin and Ronnie and advises them that they are both under arrest, Barry calls to Caitlin and she is shocked by this as it appears no one has used her real name in years and she actually goes by the name Killer Frost and hates being called Caitlin. She then fires some ice-sickles at Iris and Barry luckily he manages to flip a table in time to stop them from hitting the spot Joe steps in to try and attack Caitlin but Ronnie hits him square in the chest with a fire ball and Joe flies across the bar and looks badly hurt.

rsz_1flash215-600x401

Barry engages his speed force and grabs Caitlin and Ronnie and gets them outside revealing that he is one of the breachers. After a brief fight Caitlin is injured and Ronnie tells Barry that is isn’t over and they will meet again. We go to the hospital where Joe has been taken and after chat with Barry they bury the hatchet and Joe asks Barry to care take of Iris before he sadly passes away. Iris has her heart set on revenge and takes off in search of Killer Frost and Firestorm she takes her partner who happens to be Deadshot only he is called this ironically on Earth 2 as he is the worst shot in the department Cisco goes with the pair as he has made an invention to take down Killer Frost.

The trio arrive at an abandoned warehouse and manage to track down Caitlin and Ronnie a fight breaks out and Barry eventually arrives on the scene to lend a helping hand. Just as we think things can’t get any more complicated we finally get to see Earth 2 Cisco or as he is called on Earth 2 Reverb and it also appears he is working for Zoom he and Cisco have a brief chat before Reverb hits Barry in the back with a shock wave Cisco is shocked that he has that sort of power and Reverb states that the only reason he can’t do this is that he is limited by his fear of his power. We then see Reverb offer Cisco the chance to join him and rule Earth 2 and take out Zoom this plan is short lived as Zoom arrives just as Ronnie agrees to join them and not live in Zooms shadow, this does not work out well for the pair and Zoom kills them both using the same trick the Reverse flash used too kill Cisco back in season 1.

rsz_screen-shot-2016-02-11-at-70251-am.png

Zoom then grabs Killer Frost and advises he will let her live as she did not agree to join the other two in there betrayal before grabbing Barry and speeding off. We then see Barry come to after being knocked out in a cell and he then spots Dr Wells daughter in the cell across from him and promises her that he will get them out just as Zooms arrives to tell Barry that he is never going to be leaving Earth 2 as the episode comes to an end.

Also in this episode we finally get to find out what is making Jay sick when a new meta human comes to Central city causing tremors all over the city trying to lure the flash out to face him. Joe suggests that Jay uses the velocity 6 serum again in order to repay Barry’s sacrifice of going to save Earth 2, Jay refuses stating that he cannot take that serum again after some questioning by Caitlin we find out that when Jay first became a speedster he was obsessed with getting faster and faster. It turns out that he was abusing velocity 6 and this was the cause of the disease which is killing him, Caitlin promises to help him come up with a better serum that will not cause him any harm. We then see Jay show up the next time the new meta human returns and after knocking him over by sending vibrations through his helmet to do so the only downside is the new velocity 7 serum only lasts for a short amount of time.

Erin Stegeman’s Latest Project A ‘Bates Motel’ Parody

bates1

G’day guys! I have something a little special for the Bates Motel fans among us, yesterday I had the pleasure of doing a Q & A with Erin Stegeman, if her name sound familiar that’s because she is the master mind behind OUAT Rock Opera (which by the way is on tour at the moment and selling out fast, so if you’re in the US do yourself a favour and go see it!) and our fearless leader interviewed Erin about OUAT Rock Opera. So as you all know I am a huge fan of Bates Motel and resident Bates blogger for Skatronixxx.com , My latest Q& A with Erin was about a new project she has been working on which is a Bates Motel parody the first episode is Normero’s First Date

As a huge fan of  BM  I absolutely loved it and the cast were awesome and nailed it,  if you pay close attention you will see Erin and her Hubby make an appearance. Head over check it out, you be glad you did!

Will post the links at the bottom of the page, so please head over and give Erin and cast some love.

——————————————————————————————————————————————-

1) Was there any alcohol consumed during the planing of Normero’s First Date?

Hahaha!! No, quite the opposite. I was in the middle of working on another project and took a break to go for a walk. I had been watching season 3 (rather re-watching) in anticipation of the season 4 premiere, which was just a few days away. So, it was fresh in my head. The idea just sort of came. I wrote it later that day, sent it to my producer, Peter Frintrup (who also shot and edited it), and we were on set a few days later. I find that’s how most of my stuff happens.

People did drink on set though. We forgot to replace the liquor in our prop bottles with water and decided to just let it go. I was one of the bar patrons, and towards the end of the shoot we did like 4 takes where we all cheers each other and then take a big swig. I had to take a break after we were done to down some water and potato chips before the next set up.

2) As a huge Bates Motel fan I absolutely loved Romero’s First Date, was it a one-off or will we see more of the Bates family?

Thank you!! I’m glad fans of the show are liking it – that’s who this is for! I’m letting the internet make the decision to continue for us, as they did with OUAA. I love the show, and I certainly have ideas for these characters, but it’s an expensive hobby. If the demand is there, we will absolutely supply!

3) Where did your inspiration come from, and which character do you Identify with, if any?

I’m a bit of a romantic. I get these “couple crushes” on tv characters and my imagination just likes to put them in these ridiculous scenarios. Plus, I’m an emotional blonde and my husband, whose name is Ace Marrero, is an even-keeled Latin man…so…lots of bizarre similarities there.

As much as I wanted Normero to come to fruition I thought, “These two would NEVER be able to just do dinner and a movie like a normal couple. She’ll be wondering if Norman’s killing someone, and he’ll probably show up in his sheriff uniform because Romero lives in that thing.”

4) The Actress and Actor in the parody nailed Norma and Romero right down to their mannerisms, how long did it take them to get it right?

They were rock stars, and I met them both that day on set. Like I said, we had about 3-4 days between concept to shoot, and I don’t think either of them were familiar with the show…maybe Vanessa had seen an episode or two. I sent them a bunch of videos to watch and went over most of the details while we shot. There was so much they did on their own – they both came to set ready to roll. Vanessa had binge-watched the first season and brought that blue dress to wardrobe, which was such a cool addition. Ashwin even did Romero’s underbite in several takes. It didn’t quite make the edit, but it was super freaky how similar he was to Romero. The crew and myself even called them Vera and Nestor on accident a couple of times. Couldn’t have asked for a better pair.

5)  Currently you’re on tour with your OUAT Rock Opera and I have to say the trailer was awesome! (If I lived in the US I would definitely be going). Do you think we might see a Bates Motel Psycho Opera in the future?

That would be excellent! I’m 100% open to that if the demand is there. I do have a sketch in mind for them that involves music.

6) Will we see any other TV shows destined for your parody genius in the future ?

Yes! My YouTube channel (erinstegeman) is currently expanding to include parody content across all kinds of genre shows and pop culture. We have a few sketches in the wings. I have literally watched all of Netflix, HBO, and Amazon…so I’m ready!

Criminal Minds SN11 EP 18 -‘ A Beautiful Disaster ‘ makes for a Beautiful Exit

criminalminds.jpg

Shemar Moore, aka Derek Morgan, has left the Criminal Minds building.

After 11 seasons, Baby Girl Nation is heartbroken.  His final scene with Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness), wrenched at the, okay my, heartstrings “You will always be my original baby girl”.  Not gonna lie, I welled up.

How did Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) – handle the change?  Surprisingly very well. “I don’t want you to stay because I know why you’re leaving and I couldn’t be happier for you.”  And that moment when Derek shared the birth announcement with Spencer…  Hank Spencer Morgan.  I think I maybe did drop a tear or two.

Quick recap of episode #251 ‘A Beautiful Disaster’.  It is six months after Derek has been kidnapped, beaten and tortured.  Savannah is very pregnant.  While the two are standing outside the hospital, an unknown sniper shoots Savannah.  Can she and the baby be saved?  The BAU gang is alerted by the hospital, or is it?  And so the beginning of the end begins.  As they set up at the hospital, Hotch makes the call to take Derek off the case, because Derek is just too close to it.  They have checked the security tapes and realized that the hospital is not who alerted them, but was in fact Chaz Montolo (Lance Henriksen), the father of Dirty Dozen hitman Giuseppe Montolo.

He details Spencer to try to jog Morgan’s memory but Spencer inadvertently? slips up, giving Derek a hint as to the identity of the unsub.  JJ then shows Derek a slip of paper left in the payphone, which gives him all he needs to realize where Chaz is hiding out.  Predictably, Derek goes off the rails (who wouldn’t?) and goes after Chaz,  chucking his cell phone after telling Hodge he can’t come back.  But big clue for Hotch here, Derek calls him Aaron, alerting Hotch that the hideout has a personal connection for him.  Garcia works her magic, and sends the BAU to one of Morgan’s properties.  Meanwhile, Montolo, who mistakenly believes that Derek killed his son Giuseppe, is playing a sadistic game of Roulette with him. Derek gets the upper hand and the gun, minutes before the BAU team burst through the door.  Case solved, with Derek’s humanity left intact.  He gets back to the hospital in time to be with Savannah for the birth of their baby boy. Derek has realized that his life and priorities have changed and so his story arc with the BAU comes to an end.

This episode was written by Erica Messer and Kirsten Vangsness, and directed by Matthew Gray Gubler.  It was an amazing episode, and one that ended so well.  Killing off long term characters in a TV series has become passe (are you listening Mr Martin?), and I for one am grateful that this was not only an “all’s well that ends well” ending, but also leaves sufficient room for Derek to pop in and out on a guest appearance basis.
