Elementary SN05-EP08 “How The Sausage Is Made”

maxresdefault

Welcome back Holmes and Watson fans, let’s kick off this week’s review with a quick recap of episode 7 before we get down and dirty with episode 8.

SN05-EP07 “Bang Bang Shoot Chute”

A man base-jumping off a skyscraper is killed by a sniper while falling however, it turns out that his parachute had been sabotaged, which means that two different people wanted him dead. The investigation reveals that one of the killers is connected to a small human-smuggling operation. Meanwhile, Watson is concerned when she learns that Shinwell is reaching out to some of his old gang members despite the rules of his parole.

How The Sausage Is Made

SN05-EP08 “How The Sausage Is Made”

This Week’s episode kicks of with a visit from a man delivering a coronet (crown) to Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) as payment for something Holmes had done for him. Holmes had previously refused to cash the man’s cheques and therefore thought it better to gift him instead. The gentleman dropped Holmes in it when he told Watson (Lucy Liu) he had not seen Holmes at the AA meetings for months but only this morning Holmes had left Watson a note say he was off to the meeting. Watson questioned him about his meeting in around about way and Holmes blatantly lied to her, so she felt it was necessary to follow him the next time he went to a meeting, and discovered that Holmes was going to a park to play the violin with a group of musicians.

How The Sausage Is Made

Holmes being well versed in the art tailing, knew Watson had followed him to the park and called her on it. Holmes has become bored with the meetings and had stopped going for some time. Holmes and Watson get a call from Dr Hawes (Jordan Gelber), the deceased on his table has appeared to ingest a horse sedative, however, not by conventional means, it seems the man had unwittingly eaten another man who in turn had ingested the horses sedative which had killed him and the guy on the doc’s table. Much to everyone’s disgust, Holmes smelt the dead man’s stomach contents and detected the smell of anise, Only one butcher shop in particular “Brooklyn’s Wurst” used anise to add flavour. Watson and Holmes question the owner and of course dismisses any notion of grinding up humans for his wurst, but did say that someone had broken in recently but nothing was taken. The dynamic duo checks out the area that was broken into and it appears as if someone had been dragged down the stairs to the grinding machine, and the victim was most likely an albino.

How The Sausage Is Made

The Security footage shows someone who fits the victim, but he is not albino, he doses, however, have a grey patch which would explain the first thought of the victim being an albino, talking to a nurse, who Bell (Jon Micheal Hill) tracks down to a local hospital. She ID’s the victim as Joaquin and says if something has happened to him, then it could possibly involve faux meat he had been working on to compete with real meat and to stick it to the “Big Meat” market. Holmes and Watson are able to confirm that the victim is indeed Joaquin and head to his pace of work, where they meet with his boss, Werner Platz (Jeff McCarthy) and his second in charge, Brendan Farley (Fran Kranz), it doesn’t take long for Holmes to pick up that there are a corporate spy in their midst, Corrine (Ito Aghayere) caves immediately and admits she has been planted there by Midwest Cattle RanchersBig Meat” as Holmes like to say, she says she was placed to keep an eye on the competition and share information, but she claims she didn’t kill anyone.

elementary_e508

Holmes is put in the direction of a “corporate hitmanThomas Cockburn, who until now had remained elusive to the authorities. Bell brings his daughter Grace in and also tracks down Cockburn. Grace admits that MCR had hired her father to take out Joaquin, however, the was cancelled the hit when they realised that the “schmeat” wasn’t much of a threat to their livelihoods and would most likely be regulated to the vegan section. Holmes thinks that the data was intentionally doctored to throw people off to the fact they were onto something. Holmes is right and Bell brings Brendan in and he admits to fixing the numbers but denies killing him, and he has an alibi for the time of the murder. Holmes invites a host of religious heads including a rabbi and an imam, as both Jewish and Muslim faiths are most inclined to ban meat from their diet for religious purposes. The group confirm that if this “schmeat” was found to be “kosher” then it would be a game changer, as it would be the first meat-like product to be allowed and passable to eat for Muslims, Jews and alike, opening up a massive untapped market that could be worth millions of the people who make the faux meat.

pwyricxzb79g

Brendan is brought in again in the hope he will flip on his boss, it is clear he is more involved than he is letting on as his mortgage has been paid in full, now he doesn’t make the sort of money so someone is paying him off to be quite. Again he refuses to cooperate and this time calls in a lawyer and threats to sue for harassment and looks as if the pair are going to get away with murder. Holmes has a light bulb moment and reconvenes the group of religious heads to tell them what is going on. The Heads all agree that “murder isn’t kosher” and will see to it that everyone they can influence to do so will ban the product, leaving it dead in the water and worthless. But if someone is brought to justice for the murder then the “schmeat” will remain kosher and with the potential to make millions. Brendan roll on his boss and Platz is convicted for committing the actual murder. Holmes taking Watson’s advice, attends his old AA meeting where is absence was clearly noticed.

Could There Be More “Gilmore Girls” On The Horizon?

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’re probably aware (and have binged) the Netflix revival series of Gilmore Girls (2000-2007). The revival series was four episodes long, and was titled Gilmore Girls: A Year In the Life. The series focused on one entire year in Lorelai and Rory’s life (nine years after the original show ended), and each episode would focus on one season in the year, starting with Winter.

year-in-the-life-poster

The revival has seen mostly positive reviews, and we got to hear those final words that the writers promised would conclude the show and wrap it all up in a bow. And we suppose she was right – if the bow was put over a screaming cat while death metal music played in the background, but it’s a bow all the same.

gilmore-girls-summer

Since the binge-fest many fans took over the Thanksgiving weekend, many many tweets have appeared demanding that the series cannot end where it has, and that they need so much more.

fantweets1fantweets2

Now, the revival was supposed to be Amy Sherman-Palladino’s last hurrah with Star’s Hollow, and she promised us the last four words would be present. However, Lauren Graham (Bad Santa, Because I Said So, Parenthood) has given fans a glimmer of hope that this may not be the end.

lauren-graham

The last four words were incredibly open-ended, game-changing last words – and Graham agrees. When asked by E! News  if she thought there would be more Gilmore Girls, she responded, “”You know the final four words; what do you think?!” Cryptic, but a potential hurray!!!

Fans shouldn’t get too excited though – as stated before, Sherman-Palladino has said this would be the end and her chance to drop the final four words, and Alexis Bledel (Sin City, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Mad Men) also stated that there’s currently “no plans” to return to Stars Hollow for another round.

alexis-bledel

Given the possibilities the finale has provided, it isn’t always impossible for Gilmore Girls to return to our screens – let’s just hope it doesn’t take another decade. And if it does, Graham has announced that she has a memoir coming out titled, Talking As Fast As I Can: From Gilmore Girls to Gilmore Girls.” So fret not, fellow Poodles – we won’t be without more Gilmore Girls tales for the rest of our lives.

Anne Rice Is Developing A Vampire Chronicles TV Series

Entertainment Weekly's PopFest

In a world full of vampires, be a Lestat.  Anne Rice is bringing Lestat back to life.   The acclaimed author of the Vampire Chronicles announced on Saturday that she and her son Christopher Rice would be adapting the series for television.  “A television series of the highest quality is now my dream for Lestat, Louis, Armand, Marius and the entire tribe,” Rice wrote.

6601813_orig-400x238

The book series started with the 1976 Interview with a Vampire.  It was followed up by The Vampire Lestat in 1985, The Queen of the Damned in 1988, The Tale of the Body Thief in 1992, Memnoch The Devil in 1995, The Vampire Armand in 1998, Merrick in 200, Blood and Gold in 2001, Blackwood Farm in 2002, Blood Canticle in 2003, Prince Lestat in 2014 and this year’s Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis.

lestatandlouis-1-400x320

Interview with a Vampire was adapted for the big screen in 1994.  A story of vampire Loius de Pointe du Lac, a plantation owner turned vampire in the 18th Century.  The film adaptation was released in 1994 and stared Brad Pitt as Louis, Tom Cruise as the Vampire Lestat, and Kirsten Dunst as Claudia.

queen-of-the-damned-aaliyah-24424979-1280-720-400x225

In 2002, Queen of the Damned was released starring Stuart Townsend as the Rock Star version of Lestat and the late pop-star Aaliyah as Akasha.  The film mashed up The Vampire Lestat and The Queen of the Damned and had an amazing soundtrack produced by Korn front man Jonathan Davis.  However, Rice was not please with the film, stating that “a television series format would be more suited” for her work.

Rice has confirmed that the television series will start with The Vampire Lestat, starting with Lestat’s birth as a vampire by Marius.  She is predicting that it will take maybe two season to do the entire book.  The series will be open ended to hopefully include as many of the current 14 books in the series.

There are no confirmations about which network will carry the series, but Rice has expressed interest in Netflix.  As far as casting, nothing has be set or rumored.  However Rice has said she would like to see Matt Bomer portray Louis and Matthew MacFadyen portray Marius.

So stick with Skatronixxx for the latest news on this exciting story!!!

Tom Holland in Talks to Join Daisy Ridley in “Chaos Walking” Movie

Tom Holland (In The Heart of the Sea, Captain America: Civil War, The Impossible), who currently holds the mantle as Spider-Man for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is in talks to star alongside Daisy Ridley (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Scrawl, Lifesaver) in the movie adaptation of the Chaos Walking trilogy by Patrick Ness.

tom-holland-civil-war-premiere

The Chaos Walking series takes place in a world in which a virus has wiped out all the women, and all the men and animals can hear each others thoughts in a never ending bombardment of sound that they call The Noise. Young Todd Hewitt (Holland) has known nothing but this loud, womanless life – until one day while walking his dog, he stumbles into complete silence. And in the centre of that silence, sits a young girl named Viola (Ridley).

Doug Liman, known for his work on Edge of Tomorrow, is currently on board to direct the project, with Charlie Kaufman (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) and Jamie Linden (Money Monster) having worked on the script.

Producers will be Doug Davison (Mena, which Liman has directed) and Allison Shearmur (Rogue One, Cinderella).

The first movie in the Chaos Walking adaptation will presumably follow the plot of the first book (The Knife of Never Letting Go) – as of yet, there is no anticipated release date.

Nerdy Crafty Time with Brenda: River Song Journal

rsjournal.jpg

Yes, River Song, one of my fav characters on Doctor Who. She is smart, funny, courageous, fantastic dresser, and the confidence she has is astounding and something I wish I had.

One of the key items Mrs. Song carries with her is the Journal. This book is how she links up with the Doctor at each meeting to see where in time they both are. And today I am going to link the video below and show you all how to make one for yourself. Making her journal, I find, is better for cosplay and cheaper on the wallet.

The things you will need:

Papers 40 pieces

Tea (watch the video)

Ruler

Pencil

Pin

Sewing thread and needle

Glue PVA

Cardboard or thicker paper

Blue black and white paint

The young lady, who’s name is Ella, does a fantastic job on describing how to make the River Song Journal and I find it to be easy to follow. Please enjoy the video below and let me know how yours turned out. ^_^

Concept Art for “Captain America: Civil War” Contains Amazing Spider-Man Easter Egg

An iconic moment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is always the post-credits scene; it’s why we now have the phrase, “a true Marvel fans stay until the credits have finished rolling!”

 credits-roll

These minute long post-credit delights could be anything – from a small, hilarious snippet (Avengers Assemble’s infamous shwarma scene around the table, and Iron Man 3‘s therapy session between Tony Stark and Bruce Banner) to a huge reveal about where the MCU is taking us (Avengers: Age of Ultron‘s end scene with Thanos reaching for his gauntlet and muttering “Fine, I’ll do it myself” certainly had most cinema’s full of shrieking Marvel fans). A lot of work goes into these scenes, and they’re crucial to fans who attend them.

With every movie, comes concept artwork – this even includes for post-credit material. And in the post-credit concept art for Captain America: Civil War, there is one very generous Easter Egg that has Marvel fans talking.

the-art-of-ca-cw

One of the two post-credits scenes was a small scene with Peter Parker telling Aunt May how he got his black eye from a guy named “Steve from Brooklyn” – before he lights up a holographic watch (clearly a gift from Tony Stark), and it illuminates the Spider-Man symbol above his bed. It’s a sweet and exciting scene to show that Peter Parker will be returning for more.

However, initial concept art was much more obvious about Peter and Tony’s continued working relationship, showing a message from Iron Man to Spider-Man;

concept-art

This image particularly excites Marvel fans for one big reason – the potential for the Iron Spider-Suit.

suit

Created in the Civil War, the Iron Spider-Suit was a specific kind of armor that Tony Stark develops for Spider-Man – it was a pretty sick suit, combining the Iron Man “Gold and Red” colour palette with Spider-Man’s slick, skin-tight suit, complete with large gold eyes and four extra gold “legs.”

While all set photos of Tom Holland (Billy Elliot – The Musical, Captain America: Civil War, In the Heart of the Sea) only show him in a standard red, black and blue Spider-Man costume, and Robert Downey Jr. (The Judge, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Iron Man) has been confirmed for a cameo, there’s always a chance that Marvel are hiding a little trick up their sleeve – they usually are.

Spider-Man: Homecoming will be hitting cinemas July 7th 2017.

The Crystal Maze: Stephen Merchant Quits As Host. Who Will Replace Him?

merchantmaze0610b

The Sun are today reporting that whilst the recent revival of The Crystal Maze will return to Channel 4 for a full series in 2017, Stephen Merchant has stepped down as host of the show.

A Channel 4 spokesperson stated “Due to the overwhelming popularity of the Stand Up To Cancer special, early conversations are being had about The Crystal Maze. And whilst Stephen was an electrifying host, he was always very clear that work commitments meant he would only be able to do the celebrity special,”

So who could replace Stephen Merchant as the show’s fourth presenter? Here are a few potential candidates.

David Tennant

davidtennant1

David Tennant was originally rumoured to present the Stand Up To Cancer Celebrity Special before Stephen Merchant was announced as the host, so could it be second time lucky for everybody’s favourite Doctor?

The show’s original presenter Richard O’ Brien believes David Tennant would be a good choice, having told Stephen Merchant in the celebrity special ‘I’ll tell you who would’ve been good. That chap that played Doctor Who,’.

Add to that the fact that David Tennant already has presenting experience, having previously presented panel show Comedy World Cup for Channel 4 and a special Doctor Who themed Never Mind The Buzzcocks on BBC2 and David Tennant looks like a fairly strong choice.

Scarlett Moffatt

emb-im-a-celebrity-get-me-out-of-here

On the other hand, I wouldn’t put it past Channel 4 to make Scarlett Moffatt the show’s first female presenter.

Scarlett is arguably the most popular star of Channel 4’s Gogglebox and has shown herself to be a very funny, down to earth woman on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!. She also has a wonderful eccentricity – essential for a Crystal Maze presenter – having screamed her desire for chicken kebabs whilst trapped in a pitch black room full of creepy crawlies and pondered the nature of time travel with her fellow campmates. And after three male presenters, perhaps its time for a female Crystal Maze presenter?

Christopher Biggins

christopher-biggins-2007

He’s camp, he’s larger than life and he’s a natural-born leader. Simply put, Christopher Biggins is perfect for the Crystal Maze.

Who doesn’t love him? The guy is infectious, which is why he won I’m A Celebrity in 2007. Channel 4 could do much worse than hiring Christopher Biggins to host the new series of Crystal Maze.

Matt Smith

Matt Smith

As with Scarlett Moffatt, Matt Smith has no actual presenting experience. However I’ve always thought he would be a more natural choice for hosting The Crystal Maze than my earlier entry on the list, David Tennant. Matt Smith has a genuine eccentricity not dissimilar to his portrayal of the eleventh Doctor in Doctor Who and could therefore offer similar qualities to Richard O’Brien in the role. He’s hugely popular in America too, having played the Doctor during the point where Doctor Who boomed in popularity across the pond – so if they decide to sell The Crystal Maze overseas, he would be a smart choice for the show’s host.

Matt Smith wouldn’t necessarily need to present, in fact, so long as he simply plays an exaggerated version of himself. A quick look at IMDB (the International Movie Data Base) tells me that Richard O’Brien actually didn’t present anything until The Crystal Maze. Matt Smith could perhaps perform a similar feat; after all, every presenter has to start somewhere.

Joe Wilkinson

joewilkinson1-1026x508

Joe Wilkinson is weird. Richard O’Brien was also weird. Joe Wilkinson would therefore be a good choice for The Crystal Maze. Joe Wilkinson’s antics on 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown seem almost like a tribute to Richard O’Brien on The Crystal Maze, given how wacky and off-the-wall they are.

Most importantly, people seem to love him. 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown was originally intended as a one-off crossover of 8 Out Of 10 Cats and Countdown…and now it’s in its ninth series. If Joe Wilkinson can do with The Crystal Maze what his comical turn has done for Jimmy Carr’s  8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown, then Channel 4 could have a hit on their hands.

Do you agree with my choices? Let me know in the comments below.

The ‘Survivor: Millennials Vs Gen-X’ Review – “Million Dollar Gamble”

When compared to last years Fall Season of Survivor Cambodia, when the Thanksgivings edition gave us the epic two episode downfall of the one-and-only Stephen Fishbach. Tonight’s episode somewhat paled in comparison with two Castaways going home who either were ineffectual in the game or were shown to do little in playing the game.

That being said, who doesn’t enjoy a good Rock-Draw? Well, Jessica for one.

Sorry Jess!

Even though Chris and Jessica went home (more on that later), this episode was very much Zeke and Davids game. The two Kingpins of the season lined up their troops and went into war, leaving Hannah to flip-flop in the middle.

Sure she’s a self-confess neurotic and felt akin to the other neurotic of the Season in David (it was a neuroses love-in) but out of the pair, surely Zeke comes at the game from a purely logical angel. So when Hannah is fully aware that like her, David plays from a stand-point of “Oh crap, I’m going home“, wouldn’t you want the more stable of the pair to steer you in the right direction?

That being said, Zeke played fast and loose this week staring with a warning shot across the bow of the fragile Gen-X alliance. Getting out the stronger players whenever you can will should be the best strategy in Survivor but given how Chris was fully in Zeke’s corner perhaps he will be the dead body that trips him up later. Especially if he is a bitter Juror (which I doubt) but Chris explosion from the game seems the more unnecessary out of the two.

Which leads me to Jess.

Other than her episode 1 Legacy Advantage finding spike, Jess has fallen victim to the ‘tell rather than show‘ mentally that Survivor Editors have towards certain female players in the game. Other than via confessionals by Bret, Chris and Sunday who told us that Jess was a dangerous player, not that anything in the edit suggested that, if anything Jess seemed quiet, loyal and (with all due respect) boring-as-hell. Which makes all the sense in the world considering how she left the game due to a rock draw, so to use Cambodia as a reference point yet again, she is the Kimmi Kappenberg of Millennials Vs Gen-X.

The other big moment came from Bret this week who shared a poignant moment with Zeke when he kinda-sorta-but-not-really came out on Survivor, a moment that was surprisingly handled delicately by the producers. Which lead to Zeke expressing admiration for Bret and the things he has done in his life as a gay-man in a time when being out-and-proud – a mantra that Zeke lives by – was difficult or near-impossible for him to do.

To play the Cynic Survivor Fan though, I was also curious to see that even though this was Bret’s story, it was Zeke who told us what this meant to him, for him and what we as the audience should feel about it rather than Bret himself. Considering this episode was – excuse the double entendre – a coming out party in terms of edit for Bret, perhaps he should tell us his life story in his own words.

Just a thought Survivor Producers, just a thought.
