Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. SN3 EP11 – ‘Bouncing Back’

rsz_11200_2x1

Last night saw the return of Marvel’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D”, the television series based on Phil Coulson and his team as they deal with their own sets of problems in the MCU, fighting to keep SHIELD up and running whilst coping with the fallout from the main movie stories.

Obvious spoilers if you’re haven’t caught up/ watched the show yet.

Season 3 thus far has seen Coulson dealing with his loss of limb, and the whole team dealing with the aftermath of the Terrigan contamination in the ocean, helping find newly turned Inhumans and trying to help them and the public become safe. It then also saw the turning of Andrew, May’s ex-husband whom she was reconciling with, into an Inhuman with a desire to take out other Inhumans. It also saw the controversial argument of how to handle Inhumans and of how the public should see them.

The mid-season finale, “Maveth”, ended on a massive massive high – which saw us finding out that the man Jemma fell in love with on the alien planet was dead, and possessed by the creature – a creature of immense power. It then also saw beloved traitor/anti-hero/villain/murderer of women Grant Ward killed rather violently by Phil Coulson himself. It was a huge, action packed finale with so many questions to answer and so many places for it to go.

So how did “Bouncing Back” hold up?

Considering the show is coming back off of one of it’s massive and now infamous hiatus’s, it held its own very well. I’m glad we didn’t have an instant throw down of “AAH PLOTS AND THINGS” because realistically, it needed to reintroduce itself to it’s audience after a long time away. And it did exactly that.

The episode introduced us to a new Inhuman, affectionally named “Yo-Yo” for her ability – she has superspeed, but she has to go back to a fixed starting point – much like, a yo-yo. In the comics, she’s actually known as “Slingshot”, but considering her powers come about for completely different reasons than “I had fish for dinner that day”, I think it’s a nice nod to the comic book alias.

NATALIA CORDOVA-BUCKLEY

The episode also featured, and handled well, the subject of police brutality in other countries and the severe in-balance of justice in certain areas of the world. I also absolutely adored the ending – where she chose to stay in her home country instead of going with them to join SHIELD. It shows a chance for SHIELD to grow and develop, to become a world-wide force once again, and this time, with the right people at the controls.

There was also the whole issue of FitzSimmons and their ever perilous relationship – considering Fitz had to destroy her ex-boyfriends possessed corpse, and that they shared a rather intense kiss, viewers weren’t sure where and how this was going to go. This episode seemed to point in the direction of them trying to rebuild and “start again” – it’s going to be interesting to see how they do this, considering everything they’ve been through and how different they are as characters, but it seemed like the adult thing to do, and it’s a really refreshing development to see after the past season and a half of them being in pieces.

And then, there was the whole thing about Ward’s cold pale corpse being used as an alien vessel. Brett Dalton’s acting is absolutely wonderful. He’s done an insanely good job as Grant Ward, the mentally twisted and very complex ex-SHIELD/Hydra agent. He plays the perfect all-mighty alien power that’s come back to earth. He’s mostly silent, but his cold, purple and grey exterior paired with the small tilts and facial movements makes for a genuinely subtle and scary villain for us to look forward to.

rsz_wardmaveth

Overall, this was a very enjoyable episode. No, it wasn’t this super duper action filled incredible episode, but that’s not really what’s needed after a long time away. What we need is a re-introduction to the plot points, to the things left hanging after the events of “Maveth” and this is exactly what this episode was. And now, it’s pointed to where the show is going from here and what foes the team are up against this time.

Arrow SN4 EP11 – ‘A.W.O.L

rsz_12081209_166437577033466_1068446456_n

So it’s time for my review on the latest UK episode of the Arrow this weeks episode focuses on Diggle and his Brother Andy as well as Felicity’s struggle to come to terms with her condition.

We start the episode with Diggle and Delilah out for a walk after a dinner only to be interrupted by Chan an Argus agent who knows Delilah he is looking panicked and asking Delilah for her help as he has been compromised Diggle and Delilah suggest that he contact Argus but he refuses as he does not know who he can trust apart from her. The next thing a van we see if a van come hurtling towards them and someone shooting at them, Diggle jumps in the way of Delilah taking a shot to the arm before then men bundle Chan into the back of the van Diggle manages to catch up with them before being dragged along and then being shook loose.

rsz_arrow1-600x373

Oliver and Felicity are having a heart to heart about her condition and Oliver tries to convince her to join back up with the team to keep herself occupied and do what she does best. They are interrupted by a text to Oliver to advise that an Argus agent has been kidnapped and that Diggle has been shot and has to rush off to catch up with the team. The team split up in order to try and find out some information on where agent Chan has been taken to, Laurel and Diggle arrive at a crime scene to find Chan’s body and it appears he has been tortured for information before he was murdered.

Delilah and Diggle go off to see Amanda Waller to find out what she knows about Chan’s latest mission she refuses to help them but not before slipping a flash drive to Delilah when shaking her hand. The team uncover that the people who took Chan are an ex military group called Shadowspire, Diggle knows the team as they were stationed with him and Andy when in Afghanistan and that they were disbanded by Argus when they were found to be war profiteering. We also find out that Andy was working for them behind Diggles back and we also find out that the man in charge of Shadowspire is none other than Reiter.

We also she and interesting turn of events with Felicity as she struggles to cope with being bound to a wheelchair she starts hearing voices only to be confronted by an hallucination of her past Goth self. Telling her that she has changed and is hiding the true her behind trying to be a hero, Felicity does not react well to what is happening and when Oliver tries to talk to her again she snaps and asked to be left alone she is not talking to Oliver of course but the hallucination of her former self. Later in the episode we see Felicity finally take control and advise her past self that she is not that person anymore and to be left alone the hallucination stops with Felicity re joining the team and finally given her code name of Overwatch (Oliver states that he wanted to call her Oracle but that was already taken making a nod towards Batman’s Barbara Gordon who is also wheelchair bound and a tech wizard for the Dark knight)

rsz_vlcsnap-01405

We see Andy being transferred to a cell at Argus HQ so that Amanda Waller can ask him some questions about Shadowspires plans all he gives away is that they are not after the rail guns that Argus thinks they will be targeting. This is later confirmed when Shadowspire storm the HQ taking Waller and Delilah as well as some other agents hostage, Diggle and Andy are down in the detention centre and Diggle manages to rig a TV to send out a signal to send to the team a trick he learned from Felicity. The team assemble and make there way to the HQ but before they can make it there the commander of Shadowspire shoots Waller in the head as she will not give up the codes to something called Rubicon so the task now falls to Delilah after Diggle is captured and threatened with being shot in the head she agrees to give them the codes.

rsz_arrow-season-4-argus-blues

Andy proves his loyalty and trust to Diggle by attacking the Shadowspire commander and saving his brother for being murdered and putting a stop to the siege. The episode comes to a close with Andy being released from his cell and taken to Diggle and Delilahs place and being introduced to his niece. We also see Felicity show a picture of what she used to look like to Oliver before burning the picture stating that she is not that person anymore.

NEW “CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR” TRAILER DROPS

CIVIL WAR CRIES.

Ladies, gentleman, all in-between. A new trailer for the highly anticipated Captain America: Civil War has dropped.

And it’s two minutes and twenty-seven seconds of flawless, beautiful perfection. And it’s led to a lifetime of crying from me and every other Marvel fan going.

Honestly, this is a really flawless trailer – the Russo brother’s have been absolutely perfect in executing their marketing, they really have. It’s probably mostly because we all know roughly how the story goes, but with the huge differences between the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) and the actual comic books, they also know that realistically – we have no clue what’s coming.

So, let’s break it all down.

By the looks of the trailers, and what we’ve heard so far, the bulk of this movie is (obviously) centering around Captain Rogers, as he blurs certain lines to try and protect Bucky Barnes – and considering Bucky was, until recently, the brainwashed Winter Soldier, a lot of people do not want him protected. Riding on that, is also General Ross, here to ask for heroes to sign up for the Superhero Registration Act – and whilst some seem to agree with the idea of monitoring heroes, keeping their actions in check, not everyone else does.

And such, all at war seems to break out.

The trailer looks like it’s going to be, as recently described, “an emotional horror movie” – you’ve got Steve and Tony fighting sure, but then you’ve also got Bucky going after Rhodey, you’ve got T’Challa coming off of a car onto a motorcycle to stop him driving away, there’s ANT-MAN ON HAWKEYES ARROW and just tonnes of the usual phenomenal stuff. Alongside the Scarlet Witch seeming to wrangle Vision down into a crumpled mess, Black Widow kicking men in what appears to be task-force gear, and Crossbones showing up, this trailer was already all levels of hype.

And then, the Russo’s did it. The Russo’s finally, finally did it. They revealed Spider-Man.

And this might be a snap judgement considering he’s in it for all of a few seconds – but he’s perfect. He’s so perfect. This trailer has captured Spider-Man and everything he should be, after coming home to MCU for his big debut with only a short clip and a few little words. Tom Holland, Russo’s – well damn done.

Captain America: Civil War hits UK cinemas April 29th 2016.

South By Southwest Festival

swsx

Last week I sent off my interview questions for Demi Louise a singer/ songwriter from Oz, whilst doing a bit of research about her I came across a festival that she has played at and was headed back to play at the festival again for the second year in a row this month.

So what is South by Southwest festival you ask? Well South by Southwest  (SXSW) is an annual set of film, interactive media, and music festivals and conferences that take place in mid March in Austin, Texas, USA. SXSW  began in 1987 and has continually grown in size every year.

SXSW Music Component;

SXWS Music is the largest music festival of its kind in the world, as of 2014 the festival had more the 2,000 acts. SXWS Music offers artist- provided music and video samples of featured artists at each festival via their official YouTube channel, the event has grown from 700 registrants in 1987 to over 28,000 registrants.

The Music Festival has help launched the careers of many artists including that of singer-songwriter John Mayer who preformed at SXSW Music festival 2000, which led to signing with Aware Records, his first record label. James Blunt was discovered by producer Lind Perry in 2004 and shortly after was signed to her Custard Records, where he went on to release all three of his subsequent albums, other big nanes of the Music Festival attendees include; Talib Kweli, Lil’ Wayne, Big Sean, Kanye West, Indi bands MENEW, The Shins, Bruce Springsteen and Lady Gaga.

SXSW Film Component;

The Film Conference consists of keynote speakers, panels, workshops, mentor sessions with expert filmmakers and industry leaders. There are some big name that were past notable speakers including, Ryan Gosling, Nicolas Cage, Alejandro Jodorowsky, Seth MacFarlane, Henry Rollins, Amy Schumacher, Robert Rodriguez  and many more. The SXSW Film Festival and The SXSW Film Conference run simultaneously and celebrates raw innovation and emerging telent both behind and in front of the camera. Some past notable premieres include Furious 7, Neighbors, Bridesmaid, 21 Jump Street and Insidious. TV series Girls, Silicon Valley and Penny Dreadful also premiered at SXSW Film Festival.

SXSW Interactive Component;

SXWS Interactive focuses on emerging technology, that focus has earned the festival a reputation as a breeding ground for new ideas and creative technologies. In  2006 a video game component “Screenburn at SXSW” was added to SXSW Interactive but in 2013 was remamed to SXSW Gaming & SXSW Gaming Expo. The Interactive Festival has help app’s such as Twitter which gained a good deal of early traction and buzz at SXSW Interactive, the Foursquare was launched at the Festival along with legend Mike Tyson’s iPhone game.

This years SXSW Festival features

Music Festival: Four On The Floor UK Rock Band, NAS, DJ Khaled, Indie label showcase and heaps more

Film Festival: Secrets of the force awakens; a cinematic journey to world premiere, Documentary Theme Going home, Key & Peel, Meet short filmmakes and heaps more going on

Inteactive/Gaming Festival: Samsungs Galaxy Life, Virtual Reality with New York Times, The Five Gods of Smash, Sonic the Hedgehog: 25 Year anniversary, BATMAN: Telltale Unmasked with Greg Miller, LINE Webtoon – Women in Digital Comics just to name a few.

Without festivals like SXSW our creative geniuses wouldn’t have a platform to be heard or be able to showcase, nor would new talent be discovered or inspired so we have these festivals to thank for that and for new films, new TV shows, new music and new apps.

SXWS Festival 2016 Dates

An Interview With Top British Actress Rachael Holoway

rachael

It’s time for another interview on http://www.skatronixxx.com and this one should be interesting!

I was contacted by Rachel to see if I’d be interested in having an interview with her on my site. Rachael is a good friend of long time supporter of the site Johnny Sachon, so this was a no brainer really.

After getting to know Rachael, I found that not only she was an awesome person, but  she also had a secret talent.

No more spoilers from me, let’s find out about actress Rachael Holoway.

———————————————————————————————————————————–

1) How did you get into acting?

My dads an actor so I grew up around the industry and decided when I was about 7 that I was going to be an actress! I started training when I was 11 and the rest is history really.

2) You were in a film called ‘Soulmates’ with friend of skatronixxx.com Johnny Sachon, can you tell a little bit about this film?

I was indeed. Soulmates is a gorgeous film based on as you would imagine…the existence of Soulmates. Johnnys character being a lecturer uses a mathematical equation to prove why he believes in Soulmates to his doubting girlfriend, myself.

It’s such a lovely feel good film that approaches a familiar subject in a fresh and imaginative way.

It was such a fun shoot! It was the second time I’d been cast opposite Johnny so it was such a pleasure to work with him again and the response the film has received has been fantastic!

3) I hear you’re also a black belt in taekwondo, how did you develop an interest in this and could we see you as the female Jason Statham ?

Haha, absolutely! He’s awesome and I’d love to be the seen as the female version of him! A butt kicking actress…that’s me! I love the action genre and my martial arts niche definately pushes me towards highly physical roles which I love!

I’ve always been such a tom boy. My dad and I would watch Bruce Lee films together when I was young and my fascination with martial arts started there.

I really wanted to learn how to fight so I started kickboxing lessons. I did that for a while and then got hooked on taekwondo and yes, I am indeed a blackbelt!

rachael2.jpg

4) You’ve been in top soaps such as Hollyoaks, Emmerdale and Doctors, how do you find acting in soaps vary from that of films?

Soaps are so fast paced. It’s quite incredible actually, the filming schedule is crazy so you move from scene to scene really quickly. Its in no way rushed, you don’t move on until the director is happy…it’s just impressive how fast the whole team infront and behind the camera work together to get the job done in the shortest time possible.

Don’t get me wrong, film shoots can be fast paced too, however the difference is these soaps are on every single day, the schedule is so intense.

On a film shoot, things can be done with a little more room for experimentation with and slightly less of a time constraint.

5) You were in TV series ‘Cloud 9’ as Kelly, could you tell us about this?

Ahh Cloud 9! So this was the first time I worked with Johnny and it was such a fun series to be part of. It was a British Asian daily drama that followed the lives our London based group. It tackled all sorts of issues and was an awesome show to be part of. My character ‘Kelly’ was the girlfriend of Johnnys character ‘Ben’ who had a real roller coaster of a relationship which ended up with them getting engaged in the series finale. I’m so glad to have been part of it.

6) What’s this I hear about you being in an advert for Hewlett Packard ?

Yes! I am a reoccurring character called ‘The App Defender’. She’s a total bad ass who never looses her cool and controls every situation with total ease…even when it involves taking 3 bad guys out at once! I love being her!

7) If you could be in one existing film, what film and character would you choose and why?

This is easy…Lara Croft in Tomb Raider. I love these films and it is just my dream role! She is the ultimate woman with so many skills. Guns, swords, bo work, horse riding, hand to hand combat, motorbikes, all filmed the coolest locations…what more could I possibly want from a role! They’re doing a re make so I’m waiting for my call!

8) What can we expect to see from you in 2016?

Well, I’m going to LA at the end of the month for some really exciting meetings so watch this space!

9) Tell our readers one fun fact about yourself that they may not already know?

I’m learning Mandarin! Very random I know but I love to challenge my brain and what better way to do that then to learn arguably the hardest language in the world! I was in Beijing this time last year and really fell for the country and its people. Such an awesome place to visit…if you haven’t been yet, go!

10) Finally what advice would you have any advice for an upcoming actress or actor?

You will only get out of this life and your career what you put in. Work hard and I mean so hard that you’re  physically and mentally exhausted and I promise you, things will start to happen.  And most importantly…never give up!!!

Star Wars Chewbacca

The Young Han Solo standalone movie may have yet found its leading man but confirmation out of Disney reveals everyones favourite Furry-Wingman will be making an appearance.

Speaking at Deutsche Bank 2016 Media, Internet & Telecom Conference. Disney’s Chief Bob Iger dropped the Wookie Bomb that Star Wars mainstay Chewbacca will join a young Han Solo in the Phil Lord & Chris Miller Directed Anthology story.

In a interview with The Wrap, Iger touch upon the Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One, set “before what was George Lucas‘s first film.” Before revealing that Disney have “others in the works, including one, which is an origin story about Han Solo and Chewie. And that’ll come after ‘Star Wars 8’ in 2018. And then there’ll be possibly be more thereafter.

The film will mark the first time Solo’s origin has been explored on screen under the Disney banner. Dark Horse Comics and Novel’s have previously established the early years and mis-adventures of Han and Chewie – including a dark period in Han’s life when he joined the Imperial Navy – before Disney ret-conned the expanded universe in favour of their new Marvel-led comic book timeline.

We will have to wait and see what Disney has in store for the Intergalactic-duo but with numerous actors vying for the role, it will be interesting to see who will join our favourite Wookie at the helm of the Millennium Falcon when the film hits theatres May 25, 2018.

The Flash SN2 EP11 – ‘The Reverse-Flash Returns’

rsz_the_flash_sn2_ep_11

So it’s time once again for a review on The Flash season 2 and this week it focuses around the return of the Reverse-Flash, Barry’s greatest enemy.

So as we saw last week Patty made the decision to leave to move to Midway city to enrol in a forensics course, Barry is not taking it well and has been making himself busy with patrolling the Central city and starts the episode off by stopping a runaway fuel truck. As Cisco is going through the plan to use the turtle to capture Zoom with Harry (Dr Wells from Earth 2) Jay and Caitlin come in and make the announcement that the turtle was found dead in his cell at Star labs. We also see Eobard Thawne looking over The Flash saving the truck and telling Gideon that he now knows which time period The Flash is from and he has found a way to go home.

Barry makes his way over to the police HQ and Patty and him share an awkward moment where they talk about her leaving and she walks out as Iris walks in. Iris then offers Barry some advice that he does not have to let her go but Barry does not want to stand in her way as it’s her dream job. Cisco and Harry are at Star labs trying to figure out what causes Ciscos vibe ability, Harry asks Cisco to follow him into the time vault. Cisco obliges and walks into the room only for Harry to turn up in the Reverse-Flash suit to announce that Ciscos ability is triggered by fear before grabbing him by the neck, cue Cisco seeing the return on the real Reverse-Flash being shot at by two security guards.

It turns out that the Reverse-Flash is at Mercury labs and kidnaps Dr McGee after knocking The Flash down, but turns out that the Reverse-Flash needs Dr McGee to use the tachyons to send him back to his time in the future, Dr McGee tries to refuse only to have the Reverse-Flash say if she doesn’t she will die.

rsz_the-reverse-flash.jpg

We also find out that Iris’s mums life is coming to an end so Iris pays her a visit to tell her that she forgives her but her mum also mentions that she hasn’t seen Wally for a while as she thinks he is mad at her. This causes Iris to visit Wally to advise him to go and see her before it is two late, Wally doesn’t agree and walks away from Iris.

Caitlin has asked Barry is she can help find Jays Earth 1 doppelgänger as she believes that she can uses some of his cells to help combat the mystery illness Jay has contracted from losing his speed to Zoom. Patty shows up to speak to Barry but Patty thinks it’s strange to find Caitlin there prompting her to say to Barry that she did not know he worked with Star and Barry lets slip that him and Joe help them sometimes. This later leads to her catching Joe off guard and telling him that Patty knows that Barry is The Flash a fact that he denies only for Patty to tell him that he is a terrible liar.

Harry has also come up with a way of enhancing Ciscos vibe ability using some goggles as Cisco focuses on the Reverse-Flash and Dr McGee he sees a conversation between the two of them and the Reverse-Flash killing her before jumping through and time portal. Cisco tells the team what he saw but the time he saw was three hours on the future so the team have that long to figure out where they are and stop the Reverse-Flash from going back to his time.

rsz_hqdefault-2.jpg

Joe shows up at Star labs to tell Barry that Patty knows he is The Flash and that he should try coming clean with her about it only for Barry to shoot him down advising him that he does not want to give his enemy’s another person to target to get to him. Patty later confronts Barry about him being The Flash and he denies that he is causing her to leave the room in tears and heading for Midway city.

The team eventually track down the Reverse-Flash and The Flash shows up just in time to save Dr McGee before she is killed. The Flash takes off on a chase to catch the Reverse-Flash and when he does eventually catch him beats him to the point that he knocks him out and he ends up in a cell at Star labs. We start to see that something may not be right with Cisco at this point as blood starts coming from his nose but this is only notice by Harry who says nothing.

We then see Cisco taunting the Reverse-Flash stating that he was the one who was responsible for his capture only to start bleeding from his nose again on the way back to the lab, Barry then goes down to confront Eobard Thawne to tell him that there race was finally over. The team then interrupt Barry for an emergency he rushes back to the lab to find Cisco fitting on the bed and bleeding quite a bit from the nose, it turns out that within capturing the Reverse-Flash they have changed the time line and Cisco is being affecting by this and if they don’t send the Reverse-Flash back to his time Cisco will die.

The hardest decision Barry needs to make comes with him agreeing to help him get back to his time in order to save his friend as he does not want someone he cares about suffer because of him. The episode comes to an end with Barry throwing the Reverse-Flash through a the time portal and saving Ciscos life.

rsz_the-flash-episode-11-reverse-origin-thawne-932x466

The episode comes to an end with Caitlin and Jay meeting in the park and Jay saying that he found his doppelgänger but he would not be able to help him as Jay has mutate genes and the only way for him to get well again is for them to defeat Zoom. We also see Patty make a panicked phone call to Barry saying that someone is on her train with a gun as you would expect Barry whizzes off to save the day only to get to the train and find out it was just her way of getting him there to see that he is The Flash after all.

Disney Star ‘Zendaya’ Joins Sony’s Rebooted ‘Spider-Man’

Zendaya

Over the years various incarnations of Spider-Man have had the pleasure of locking-lips with some of Hollywoods elite babes – Kristen Dunst, Bryce Dallas Howard, Emma Stone – to name but a few.

Not bad for Marvel’s self-confess Geek.

Well now Peter Parker can add Disney Starlet, model and singer Zendaya to the list, as sources out of Deadline report that the triple-threat actress is to appear alongside Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in Sony’s third reboot of the Mega-popular Web-Headed-Hero.

Details are sketchy as to who Zendaya will play but Deadline did indicate that her character will be called “Michelle“. The name will lead many comic-book fans to predict that the actress will embody the character of Michele Gonzales. The Muay Thai, Tae Bo kickboxing, shotgun wielding criminal defence lawyer and former-flamer of Peter Paker who made her comic book debut in The Amazing Spider-Man #592.

Sony’s reboot will be Hollands first solo Spider-Man movie after the British actor makes his first appearance in the role alongside Chris Evan’s in Captain America: Civil War. The Jon Watts directed film will also mark the first time a Spider-Man franchise will fall under the banner of Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe after both studios agreed to share the character after the commercial flop of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014).

Watts and Sony will shoot the new Spider-Man film this year with a projected release of July 7, 2017. Before then fans will be able to get their first look at Tom Holland when Captain America: Civil War opens in theatres April 29 this year.
