‘Wolverine 3’ Gets An R-Rating

the-wolverine-wallpaper-2

It seems that the Deadpool-effect is already taking hold at 20th Century Fox with sources out of the recent companies Toy Fair presentation reporting that the next Wolverine film with be R-Rated.

The image below (uploaded on imgur by RayChaos) shows a pamphlet that has been claimed to have been handed out at the event, revealing the companies projected rating for Wolverine 3.

Fans of the berserker may question how it has taken this long for Hugh Jackmans violent Logan to get a bloody adaption. This is in no doubt a reaction to the success of Ryan Reynolds Merc-With-A-Mouth, whose R-Rated exploits has seen Director Tim Miller‘s work surpassed Fifty Shades of Grey’s 85.2 Million on Presidents Weekend and the month of February with a cool $135 Million.
The Reynolds lead film also has a stranglehold on the crown as the biggest opening ever for a R-Rated Movie beating out Matrix Reloaded’s $91.8 Million debut.

The Wolverine Director James Mangold will return to direct the third film which Jackman revealed last year will explore the father/son relationship between Logan and Professor Xavier who will once again be portrayed by a returning Patrick Stewart.

Wolverine 3 is slated to hit theatres March 3, 2017 with production staring on the project this April.

Hardcore Henry – Trailer Review

hardcoreh

So while I was waiting for Deadpool to begin they showed a trailer for an upcoming film called Hardcore Henry, it seemed quite interesting so I thought I’d do a little write up on the trailer which can be found on YouTube.

So the trailer starts with a woman bringing a man by the name of Henry back to life and asking him if he can remember anything a shake of the head to confirm he doesn’t. The next stage you see the woman attaching a robotic arm and leg to Henry. We then find out that the woman piecing poor old Henry back together is indeed his wife.

After some a brief explosion and some men chasing them you start to notice something different about the way this movie has been filmed when a van full of armed mercenaries turn up and start to pummel Henry and push him off a bridge. The film is in fact filmed from a First person perspective the same as used in such games as Call of Duty and Halo it turns out that Henrys wife has been taken hostage and everyone is out to kill Henry.

The Queen song  Don’t stop me now kicks in after a soldier chucks Henry a shotgun and cue Henry running around causing all sorts of destruction and chaos from shooting a mercenary mid-air as he is kicked down a flight of stairs to crashing through the back of a van firing a mini gun and flying out the front. There is also a moment where he is on the top of a van and drops a grenade through the sun roof jumping off the van and ending up on the back of a guy riding a motorbike.

After a few more fight scenes one of which shares similarities to the scene in Kill Bill Volume with the Uma Thurman fighting the Crazy 88’s where he appears to be completely outnumbered by some guys in white overalls and the trailer comes to an end.

The film is set for release on the 8th of April 2016, which so happens to be my birthday so may have to treat myself with a trip to see if it is any good.

Deadpool Review

Deadpool

Much has been made of Deadpool actor, Ryan Reynolds, quest to bring the title hero to the big screen after the characters mishandled debut in Wolverine Origins (2009).

The actors passion however should not be under-sold as it this aspect that shines throughout Deadpools glorious return to the big screen.

Reynolds of course plays the Merc-With-A-Mouth Wade Wilson, a lippy thug-for-hire who finds himself facing certain death after finding out he has terminal cancer. The timing couldn’t be worst given that the rogue has found love in the form of Morena Baccarin’s Vanessa, a hooker-with-a-heart-of-gold and the action flicks self proclaimed “hot chick.”

Wilson soon finds himself going to extreme lengths to cure his ailment leading to our hero unlocking his latent mutant abilities of healing (like X-Men favourite Wolverine) at the expense of Wilson pretty little mug.

Factor in that the bad guy kidnaps his girl after our hero torches villain Ajax’s (Ed Skerin) lab, and Deadpool is out for revenge.

Reynolds who is probably best known for his comedic roles is on fire, mixing in his own sardonic delivery with the quick witted and cult laden retorts that Deadpool is known for. The 4th wall break from the comic books is also present and used to great effect as the story balances classic superhero origin story and kick-ass action.

Supporting appearances from X-Men Colossus (Stefan Kapicic) and Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand) are a welcome palette cleanser to hyperbolic Wilson, with both making great comedic “straight men“. The scene in which Deadpool literally breaks his limbs trying to beat up Colossus had my fellow cinema goers and myself rolling in the aisle.

If Deadpool has a weakness it would be its over zealous in-jokes with regards to the characters comic-book past. The references will have knowing fans geeking-out while causal viewers might find certain jokes fall flat. But there are enough dirty jokes and movie references peppered in to keep all invested in Wilson fight for revenge.

Overall Deadpool makes up for the beloved Merc’s dire debut, which is referenced, gagged and easter egged on more than one occasion. Tim Miller’s film is not only a worthy addition to the ever expanding X-Men universe but an exciting entry into the weird world of Wade Wilson. Roll on Deadpool 2.

Now … where did I park my Unicorn?

‘X-Force’ Is Ryan Reynolds Next Passion Project

xforce

With Deadpool garnering critical and commercial success, it seems a no-brainer that 20th Century Fox would move ahead with the R-Rated Superhero genre, so it shouldn’t come as that much of a surprise that Deadpool 2 is reported as being greenlit already.

A source out of The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Ryan Reynolds Merc-With-A-Mouth will go into production without Director Tim Miller at its helm but thats not to say that the team of Miller, and writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick won’t remain together as Fox are keen to keep the three men involved.

As Miller, Reese and Wernick prepare for Deadpool 2, the man himself did reveal recently that an X-Factor film is high on his list as the next comic adaption he wants to get off the ground: “In the future, I think, if we’re doing a bunch more Deadpool movies, we’re gonna really explore the X-Men a lot,” Reynolds quip , adding, “And maybe X-Force. X-Force my priority. I really want to get that in.

Much like the Deadpool movie, the X-Force comics had a far mature tone than is expected from Marvel with various incarnations of the team dealing with Mutant threats with extreme force. Incidentally at one point Wolverine headed up the team that consisted of Deadpool, Psylocke and Archangel, characters that have all been introduced into the 20th Century Fox Mutant universe. Although Hugh Jackman has gone on record as saying that his time with the Mutant franchise will soon be at an end, maybe a new spin-off franchise might change his mind.

After all, if Reynolds can get a Deadpool movie onto the big screen, maybe a Jackman-Reynolds X-Force movie doesn’t sound all that unrealistic.

Deadpool hits UK Theatres this week.

‘Hannibal’ Creator Named Showrunner For CBS ‘Star Trek’ Tv Show

startrek

Bryan Fuller, the man behind critically acclaimed shows Pushing Daisies and Hannibal, has been named show runner for CBS’s forthcoming Star Trek Tv series. Which will mark a homecoming for the Producer and screenwriter who cut his teeth writing for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager.

CBS also announced that Alex Kurtzman, who has worked as a writer and producer on the recent Star Trek movies, will serve as Executive-Producer and Co-Creator alongside Fuller. Little detail is known as to whether the series will take place within the Tv continuity established by the original series in 1966 or if it will serve as a spin-off for the alternate timeline of the Kurtzman films.

In a statement released by Fuller, the show runner confirmed his love for the Star Trek universe revealing that his “very first experience of Star Trek is my oldest brother turning off all the lights in the house and flying his model of a D7 Class Klingon Battle Cruiser through the darkened halls. Before seeing a frame of the television series, the Star Trek universe lit my imagination on fire.

He continued to express that “It is without exaggeration a dream come true to be crafting a brand-new iteration of Star Trek with fellow franchise alum Alex Kurtzman and boldly going where no Star Trek series has gone before.

Kurtzman also reciprocated the sentiments shared, remarking that “bringing Star Trek back to television means returning it to its roots, and for years those roots flourished under Bryan’s devoted care. His encyclopedic knowledge of Trek canon is surpassed only by his love for Gene Roddenberry’s optimistic future, a vision that continues to guide us as we explore strange new worlds.

The new series will be the first show made for CBS All Access, the networks Video on demand and live streaming service, and will air in early  2017. The show will have a special preview event on the Network with the rest of the episode being exclusive the VOD service with international markets receiving the show via traditional Tv services and other streaming services around the world.

Super Bowl Ad Reveals ‘Krang’ In ‘TMNT 2’

krang2

The Super Bowl is here and of course when we should be watching the game we can’t help but Geek out over those Ad’s – however brief.

This year those heroes in a half-shell got in on the action when a brief trailer dropped for Michael Bays TMNT: Out of the Shadows revealing that super-villain Krang will indeed be in the sequel.

krang

Krang will be most familiar with fans of the 80’s cartoon, a Warlord from Dimension-X who found himself banished to Earth without his body and reduced to a brain-like form. It had been suspected that the long-standing nemesis to the turtles would appear after concept art leaked revealing the character.

TMNT 2 sees our mutant-heroes Leonardo (Johnny Knoxville), Donatello (Jeremy Howard), Raphael (Alan Ritchson) and Michelangelo (Noel Fisher) return to once again stop Shredder (Brian Tee) while battling an Alien Invasion that presumably answer to Krang.

Megan Fox will reprise her role as April O’Neil alongside Will Arnett’s comic relief Vern Fenwick, with fan favourite Casey Jones making his debut played by Arrow actor Stephen Amell.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows will hit screens June 3, 2016.

‘The Flash’ Will Crossover With CBS’s ‘Supergirl’

Flash-Supergirl-1-600x795

Even since The Flash and Arrow creator Greg Berlanti announced last year that Supergirl was to appear on CBS, many fans questioned whether any of the CW based characters would crossover onto the rival programming. A seemingly impossible feat given the rights to characters belonging to numerous people. Until now.

Fans wishes have come true as Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen will be speeding his way into National City in an upcoming episode of Supergirl scheduled to broadcast on Monday, March 28. The reveal came courtesy of executive producers Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg who expressed their excitement stating:

We are so incredibly excited to announce something that we have dreamed of happening since we starting making Supergirl — The Flash and Supergirl are teaming up! We want to thank Grant Gustin for making the time to come visit (on top of his already immense workload) and all of the folks at CBS, The CW, Warner Bros. and DC for working this out. And finally thanks to the fans and journalists who have kept asking for this to happen. It is our pleasure and hope to create an episode worthy of everyone’s enthusiasm and support.

This will mark the first time that Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist) will interact with a character from the growing CW DC universe, effectively integrating Supergirl into fold. This will leave fans wondering if this could become more than a one off with Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow crossing-over on numerous occasions. Could Supergirl turn up in Star City or Central City next?

I guess … skies the limit right.

Check Out ‘Chris Hemsworth’ In These New ‘Ghostbuster’ Photos

ghostbusters_2016_image_004

The newly revamped Ghostbuster website released a handful of new photos including Chris Hemsworth in his secretarial role as the reboots new ‘Janine’.

Hemsworth’s Kevin was last seen in August of last year looking bad-ass in a Ghostbuster-Overalls while riding a dirt-bike suggesting that the character may be doing more than just answering phones. The new photos show the Australian looking more dapper but after Paul Feig agreed to bolster his part in order to entice the Marvel Hero to take the role. I’m sure he will be covered in slime soon enough.

Bridesmaids (2011) Director Feig’s new Ghostbusters will focus on a pair of down-on-the-luck authors Erin Gilbert (Kristen Wiig) and Abby Yates (Melissa McCarthy) who become a laughing-stock after their published work assert that Ghost are real. Of course this being Ghostbusters it isn’t long before those pesky-poltigiest are invading Manhattan at the hands of comedian Neil Casey’s Rowan, and the Proton-Pack wielding heroes are called upon to save the day.

Ghostbusters will also see Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones round up the quartet with Andy Garcia as the Mayor of New York and cameo appearances from the original movies stars Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver and Bill Murray.

Ghostbusters will hit theatres July 15, 2016.
