‘Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.2’ Reportedly Cast Star-Lords Father

 

Who is Star-Lord’s father, we have to know!!! – Skatronixxx

Rumours have been abound as to the identity of Star-Lord Peter Quills father and who exactly will be playing the spectral figure in James Gunn’s sequel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2. As with rumours many have been wrong in the past. One particular rumour that draw the ire of Gunn himself was the reveal that Quills dad would indeed be the original Captain Marvel ‘Mar-Vell’. This was subsequently shot down in humorous fashion with a pointed statement from Gunn via FaceBook retorting that ‘We’re creating a film that doesn’t rely on plot twists to be an enjoyable experience. They’re only a very small part of what we’re cooking up for you.’

At the time the statement was posted, it had been reported that Academy award winner Matthew McConaughey had turned down a role in the Marvel sci-fi sequel, with the role of Mar-Vell indicated to be the part offered to the actor. Although the character of Mar-Vell has been chucked off the table, McConaughey did turn down a role in the film which may be offered to another Hollywood legend.

Sources close to The Wrap, report that Hateful Eight star Kurt Russell is Gunn’s favourite to portray Quills mysterious father for Vol.2. Although it has been stated that the actor has not been offered the role or read for the part, meetings are scheduled to take place soon.

In the Marvel comics it has long been known that Peter is half Spartax, a humanoid Alien race ruled over by King J’son of the Spartoi Empire who fathered Quill when he crash landed on Earth. In the comics father and son are often put at odds, with J’son believing his son too immature and roguish to inherent the throne and Quill viewing his father’s methods as underhanded and almost villainous. Which is often how J’son himself is presented to the reader with the King of Spartax being involved in numerous plots to overthrow other empires in the galaxy including the Kree, Shir’Ar and even Earth.

Although I could see Vol.2 using J’son as a character, I don’t see the MCU going down that path given that it is heavily indicated that the new Guardians of the Galaxy animated show on Disney X.D. could be using him, as Quill’s Spartax heritage has already been confirmed on the show.

With Star-Lord’s father proving a big tease towards the end of the first film its highly likely that whomever is cast will play an important role in Gunn’s much anticipated sequel. Production is slated to begin next year with a released date May 5, 2017.

‘Suicide Squad’ Synopsis Reveals Bad News For The Team

 How could you not love these guys and gals – Skatronixxx

DC’s Suicide Squad is easily the most fascinating out of the comic book outlets upcoming cinematic offerings. Not only will we see the latest incarnation of The Joker (Jared Leto) since Heath Ledger’s scene stealing interpretation of the Clown Prince of Crime in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight (2008). The first live action appearance of The Joker fan-girl Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) and countless possibilities for further cross-over’s down the line. Not to mention the delectable opportunity to see Cara Delevinge’s The Enchantress crop out in Guillermo Del Toro’s upcoming Justice League Dark film. But we will ultimately see DC pull the trigger on releasing their vault full of iconic villains on an unsuspecting movie audience and see what they make of it.

Now tell me you aren’t excited to cheer for the bad guys for once? Well those bad guys may well steal your heart yet if Warner Bros. latest synopsis is anything to go by:

‘It feels good to be bad… Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated supervillains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity.

US intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of desparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do.

However, once they realise they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?’

With this in mind I guess the only question will be if any of the team will survive Director David Ayer’s (Training Day, Fury) film as the odds are certainly stack against them.

Suicide Squad will serve as the follow-up to the crown jewel in the franchise, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, when it lands in theatres August 5, 2016.

An Interview With Up And Coming Actor Johnny Sachon

Here’s Johnny!!!

As you know from my last article I spoke to actor Johnny Sachon about his film ‘Shadows’ and the prospect of how our obsession with technology could be used against us. I speak to alot of people before I work with them on the site and Johnny is a genuine hardworking down to earth guy with the same mindset as myself. We both a share common goal that if you want to succeed you have to have the drive and passion and actually go for it rather than waiting for life to hand you a break.

Let’s find out a little more about Johnny, I was lucky to have an interview with him and here we are!

1) How did you get into acting?

My parents met at their local drama group, so I grew up around theatre and acting. I guess me being an actor was always on the cards. I did a little tv and film work growing up but it was attending drama school that sharpened my focus on screen acting.

2) You appeared in the film Shadows, I’ve seen the trailer and it looks like an interesting concept. How would you describe your character and the film to someone who has not seen it?

In essence the film deals with the privacy debate and is a dramatic extrapolation of what is already happening right now. Shadows is set in 2037, where a totalitarian British government are using all technology against the people for surveillance – TV’s, computers, phones… everything is compromised. A small group of rebels, led by my Character ‘Lee’, attempt to bring down the system in the name of freedom.

Lee is an idealist and a revolutionary. In the film we meet him in his mid twenties, years after his parents execution having been accused of working against the government. He is consumed by the loss of his parents and his need to re-estbalish personal freedom in the face of the repressive regime. Lee is calm, collected and constantly calculating but is also incredibly passionate, with a deep anger that drives him. He is the spark to ignite the revolution.

3) On Shadows you worked with director/writer Luke Armstrong who has worked on films such as Skyfall and Guardians of the Galaxy. What was it like being able to work with someone who has experience of working on such big films?

It was a fantastic experience working with Luke. He has a very clear vision about what he wants, in the development stage, while filming, in post and has an understanding of how to achieve that vision because of his experience. I learnt a lot about the technical side of film making, working at a hieght level, and in every stage of production – Even down to the number of individual components that make up a VFX shot to how the hollywood ‘look’ is achieved in the grade. Luke and I have now worked together several times since Shadows and I think that speaks for itself.

4) What was it like being involved in a science fiction film? Is this a genre you have always been interested in? Also quite a lot of ideas and modern day inventions actually have roots that are tied to science fiction, do you think that some of the ideas seen in the film we could see in the future?

I think for a film to be commercially successful, a clear genre can be really imported – even if there are a number of sub genres under that umbrella. I’ve found sci-fi to be a genre that allows the film maker to explore current issues without it being too ‘close to home’ – whether they’re exploring something like society’s obsession with the perfect appearance or having our personal privacy taken away from us to save us from a potential disaster. If the film is set in a future world, another planet or with another species, for example, the films message can be easier to absorb, rather than the, often harsh reality of simply holding up a mirror to the world. I’ve always been a fan of sci-fi films growing up so it was an absolute pleasure working on Shadows.  As I said earlier, Shadows is a dramatic extrapolation of what is already happening now into what might be. We’ve already seen that two way TV’s exist and that conversations have been monitored, potentially viewed, without permission. Drones are already being used widely and in wars for air strikes and phone hackings have been a widely publicised scandal. Sadly I imagine that many such ideas will be realised in the not too distant future.

5) You also appeared in the American horror film Rage: Midsummer’s Eve, what was that like and do you have any interesting stories from your time on set?

I worked on ‘Rage:Midsummer’s Eve’ shortly after graduating and it was my first experience on a larger budget independent movie. I never travelled much growing up so filming abroad, on an American movie, was an incredible experience and one that I will never forget. Holly, who plays ‘Jessica’ in Shadows, was the lead in Rage and we have been great friends ever since. Luke and our casting director loved the chemistry we had in the audition so Holly was cast as our lead woman in Shadows.

For Rage we filmed in Finland during the summer solstice – so there was perhaps an hour of semi-darkness around midnight but that was it! One night a few of us decided to go out to a club one evening. I remember being rather drunk and very confused stepping out of an underground club into the blazing sun at 4am. There was a scene in Rage in which the group of us friends, me included, go skinny dipping in a lake. Now, I’m not a shy person but the idea of stripping off in front of maybe 30 cast and crew made me a little nervous. In the end the scene was beautifully shot and was nothing to worry about at all. The wrap party took place at a beautiful open air lodge in the middle of know where. Im very much a town boy so this was a little scary for me but after a few drinks I ended up having a traditional Finnish sauna, followed by jumping straight into an absolutely stunning, secluded lake. It all sounds a little silly now but it was quite romantic at the time.

6) You’ve appeared in television, film and theatre, how would you compare acting in these three different mediums?

I’ve found in TV you often spend more time working alone. There is very little time for rehearsals (if any) and filming is usually fast paced with only a few takes. Once I Embraced that, Ive found it to be quite a freeing experience as an actor because you just have to make decisions and go with it. In TV series the audience generally stay longer with the character(s), so get to see them before, during and after a life changing event. As an actor there is a lot of room to explore and develop the character as they change and grow – like any real person does.

Films are usually about the event or focused on one moment in a characters life – not so much before or after. There is little more rehearsal time,process and generally more time when filming. This means there is often more opportunity to explore various options as the character and actor within the world of the script. In theatre there is usually even more time to emerse yourself in the world of the play and the characters. It’s a slower, longer process with plenty of rehearsal. Again, it’s generally about a moment in the characters life’s but the thing about theatre is that it’s live. There is instant gratification from delivering a good performance and of course, there’s a hug buzz from the danger of it being live.

For me I’ve found something that changes for me between different mediums is my focus. In film it’s as though I’m performing to a single person and my focus must have pin point precision. TV can be a little more relaxed at times, I’m still incredibly focused but It’s as though I’m performing to a couple of people, rather than just the one. In theatre my focus widens, as the audience are often quite large, and I must reach every audience member.

7) As well as being an actor you’re also a producer how do you find the role as a producer differs to that of an actor?

I’ve found that in both acting and producing you must be self motivated even though they are very different roles. I try to separate the two as much as possible so that I can focus fully on either role. As a Producer you can be responsible for getting the film developed, getting it off the ground, bringing the cast and crew together, helping organise the shoot, work out budgets and ultimately you are responsible for everything. On bigger productions there are many different producers with varying responsibilities- but on smaller productions the roles tend to cross over. It’s defiantly not the same experience or rush I get from acting but it’s incredibly satisfying seeing a film come to together from start to finish and being a big part of that.

8) If you could be in one existing film, what film and character would you choose and why? 

That’s a very hard question – There are so many great films and characters out there. I’d love the challenge of playing a dangerous, complex character like Heath Ledgers Joker in The Dark Knight. I still find his performance fanscintating as it’s so varied and the audience never know what he’s going to do next – which makes him truly dangerous and exciting to watch. Or I’d love a situation where I had to complete immerse myself in a character and change myself entirely. For example, like Jake Gyllenhaal in Southpaw. I don’t get moved by films easily but his portrayal of Billy Hope was incredible. He trained for months as a fighter, to a professional standard for the role and his on screen chemistry with Rachel McAdams was just incredible. Generally I want a character to stretch me or challenge me in some way or another. As a rule, if a role or a project scares me then it’s a good sign. Im following the careers of Michael Fassbender, Jake Gillyard, Tom Hardy and Jack O Connel closely and I’m aiming to have a similarly varied career.

9) What can we expect to see from you in the remaining months of 2015 and into 2016? 

Monday December at 10am I’m releasing a recent collaboration with Director Luke Armstrong. Spy Thriller – ‘The service’ with Brian Bovell ( Unforgotten, Holby City, Hollyoaks ) Sol Heras (Coronation street, Hollyoaks, Rock Rivals) Katie Goldfinch ( Shadows, The Midnight Beast) and myself.

Luke and I have been developing a feature length film based on Shadows the short film and now have a great script. I’m currently working toward securing funding for the feature film and I’m positive you’ll be hearing more about this very soon.

In early 2016 I’ll be appearing as ‘Lee’ in the world’s first truly cinematic interactive feature-length movie ‘LateShift’. To be released in cinemas and the app store in early 2016. This film is a gamechanger and could potentially revolutionise the way in which films are made and enjoyed.

 In 2011 I competed in the Natural Power Lifting Championships and placed for the European finals.

11) Finally what advice would you have for an upcoming actress or actor?

Stay proactive and be persistent. It’s a business and a craft. Keep creative.

‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ Trailer And New Information Released **SPOILERS**

 

At first I was like noooooo Will Smith, now i’m BRING IT ON – Skatronixxx

The long awaited sequel Independence Day: Resurgence has landed with a surprising super-serious trailer, Jeff Goldblum and no Will Smith.

When plans for the production were announced back in late 2014, we learnt that Will Smith would not return to portray Colonel Steven Hiller but until now we were unsure as to how Director Roland Emmerich would handle Smith’s absence from the sequel.

Released alongside the trailer, the ‘viral’ site for the film has a timeline of the events that lead up to the beginning of the new movie. By jumping to 2007 on the official website’s timeline you will be presented with a headline ‘World Mourns Col Hillier’ with the following copy which reads:

‘While test piloting the ESD’s first alien hybrid fighter, an unknown malfunction causes the untimely death of Col. Hiller. Hiller’s valor in the War of ’96 made him a beloved global icon whose selfless assault against the alien mothership lead directly to the enemy’s defeat. He is survived by his wife Jasmine and his son Dylan.’

It seems the most logical excuse for the characters absence, anything other than death couldn’t explain while a hero of the original war wouldn’t be involved in the subsequent second invasion but probably won’t be the best of news to fans of the original film.

We will at the very least will see Independence Day other stars Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman and Vivica A. Fox return to fight the good fight. Alongside fresh blood in the form of Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games), Jessie Usher (Survivors Remorse), Joey King (The Conjuring) and Maika Munroe (It Follows) who all make appearances in the trailer below.

Shadows – An Interview With Johnny Sachon

They’re watching, be afraid ….

As you’re aware many of the sources for the interviews  for my site come from my twitter page. I either email people asking if they’d be be interested to appear or like my good friends over at Internity they reach out an contact me. About a week ago I recieved an email from Johnny saying he liked my site,  and was wondering if I’d be interested in doing an interview for the site.

Naturally I checked out his twitter page out of curiosity, the header on his twitter account caught my eye, it simply read ‘SHADOWS’ and there was a picture of an eye. This piqued my interest and after a few back and forth emails I agreed not to do one, but two interviews to help promote Johnny and his film Shadows.

What do you get if you mix an up and coming actor/producer, a director/writer with experience working on films such as Skyfall and Guardians of the Galaxy along with a combined cast and crew whose credits include SkyFall, Iron man 3, World War Z, Superman,Guardians of the Galaxy, 300, The monuments men, Edge Of Tomorrow, Jupiter Ascending, Homeland, 24 and Casualty? Add in a plot set in a Dystopian future that features scarily close to home and I for one could see happening in the not to distant future (I won’t give to many spoilers you’ll have to read about it below.) You get Shadows. With a cast whose combined credits read like a who’s who of Hollywood films you have to at least be curious. Check out the trailer below:-

The official press release states that. ‘After premiering at the London Sci-Fi Festival this year Shadows is now doing its festival run. Since then ithas been selected for numerous festivals internationally and won several awards. There has been such positive feedback and a call for more that, while continuing the festival run, Johnny and Luke have developed a feature length version of the flm expanding on the ideas and characters explored in the short movie. With the frst draft completed and revisions in progress, pitches to producers and studios being organised, Johnny and Luke are determined to take Shadows forward and look forward to making their first feature film.’

1) How did you get into writing/producing and where did the idea for the film Shadows come from?

Luke and I worked together previously on a few other films with mutual friends and decided that we wanted to make a film together. We basically started off by throwing ideas around until something stuck. Luke follows the news closely and Shadows was essentially inspired by the news headlines at this time. — The Edwards Snowdon case, the phone hacking , etc.

On most of the shorts I’ve produced I’ve been involved in the development process and with the script to some extent, at times even at the conceptual stages. Shadows was the first time I’d seriously collaborated on a script, working on the dialogue, character development and structure of a film. I’ve actually just collaborated with an actress, writing a really exciting second short film and me taking the lead writing this time.

I’ve always been proactive with my career – I believe that, while some are lucky, the rest of us have to make our own luck. As an actor I think it’s important to spend time networking, building relationships and connections — and nurturing them. Working regularly with talented people who are also your friends is simply an awesome situation and one that I would like to be a regular thing in the future.

With independent productions you must be prepared to go the extra mile as a producer, sometimes further. You need the stamina and commitment to see the film through and get it over the finish line and beyond – I feel this is one of my strongest assets as a Producer. And of course being able to go the extra mile as an actor — my mind set is I do whatever I need to do, to get the job done — within reason. As long as the audience buy the performance that’s what matter. With all that in mind I think Producing was a natural step for me.

2) How would you describe the film to someone who has not heard of it?

Shadows depicts the UK government using virtually all digital technology for surveillance and control over the general population, becoming a totalitarian state. By the year 2037, the British government, along with many others, has become an autocratic dictatorship. In order to control dissent and prevent a civil war, the government exercises a policy of automated surveillance of the entire population through all smart electronic devices and a drone program called ‘The Shadow Initiative’. Discreet drones are used to shadow people of significant interest. The story revolves around two characters names Lee and Jess. The young couple are quintessential revolutionaries, they’re romantic in their ideology and their relationship is built on this emotional connection to the hope of a better future.

Shadows was inspired with ideas ripped straight from the news headlines and is essentially a dramatic extrapolation of what is already happening into what could happen in the not too distant future.

3) The film was funded via a Kickstarter project, how did you find raising the funds for the film via kickstarter and do you have any advice or pearls of wisdom for any other budding film makers struggling to raise funds on the site?

We found that most of the money raised came from family, friends and people who wanted to see us do well. We were very lucky to attract the attention of a generous investor via Kickstarter as he liked our pitch video and the films Luke has worked on definitely caught peoples attention. We bombarded every and anyone that would listen with our Kickstarter campaign. You can’t have an ego with theses things or be shy about it-get it in front of anyone that will listen. You never know who is going to back you, we were pleasantly surprised by some of the people that supported us. Make an effort with your perks and make sure you deliver on sending them , etc. Be persistent, update people on your projects progress and obviously thank them for their generosity — sounds like an obvious one but I’ve seen people forget with the chaos of post prod and getting the film out there , etc.

4) Although the film has a relatively low budget compared to that of the Hollywood, from the clips I’ve seen the special effects are pretty damn impressive. How easy did you find it making a science-fiction film on a smaller budget?

I had made a sci-fi short film the year before on practicality no budget for the sci-fi London 48hour film competition. However, Shadows was an entirely different project all together and on a much grander scale. We set shadows in the ‘not to distant future’ so that we didn’t have to change too make of the appearance of London – the subjects it tackles are also particularly relative right now, so setting it in 2037 seemed feasible.

We were very fortunate that Luke has worked on such successful films and is a particularly talented VFX artist himself — completing over 60 VFX shots himself in Shadows. A few of his work colleagues were also generous enough to help us out and work on the VFX. Long before the shoot, in fact before pre-production really began we filmed some test footage of me looking round a street corner at a mothership drone to see if we could actually achieve what we wanted and to the standard we wanted it. Luckily it all went well, so we got moving on pre-production.

 

5) After reading the press release for the film, it seemed like you put in A LOT of blood, sweat and tears into the film. How happy are you with the finished project?

We did indeed. I think, considering the constraints we had ( we shot everything in 4 days, over two weekends and on a 5k budget ) I’m incredibly proud of the ambitious film we made. I think with any film maker, and especially anyone who is a bit of a perfectionist, there will always be little things you’d have liked to have had more time on etc but everything is a learning experience. I think we’ve achieved an exciting, entertaining film that allowed us to explore the themes of surveillance, gage the quality of film we could produce and a film I hope everyone will see the potential in for a bigger picture.

6) The film premiered at the London Sci-Fi Festival this year, how did you find that experience, and what was the initial reaction of the people who saw Shadows?

Premiering at London Sci-Fi was exactly what we had hoped for and there was an overwhelming positive response from the audience. One of festival founders is actually touring the film with a handful of his other favourites at sci-fi conventions he visits around the world over the next three years. So many film makers who have premiered at the festival have gone onto great things and it’s very much the stablished home of Sci-fi film in the UK. Gareth Edwards’ success began at London sci-fi and I believe Luke is following a similar path as he has proven that he’s both a talented Director and VFX artist, successfully able to produce high quality, commercially appealing film on a minimal budget.

7) The film is now doing its festival run. What kind of festivals has it been at and how have you found that experience and where can we expect to see it next?

Although Shadows isn’t a typical festival film and is quite commercial in its appeal, it has been really well received at many festivals internationally, winning a few awards a long the way too. We’re now incredibly excited to be releasing the film early Jan 2016 for everyone to enjoy.

8) Is it true that you have been working on a feature length version of the film and is that something we can expect to see in the future?

We have indeed. The feature script is written and we’re currently talking to studios and investors. I’m working hard to secure funding to get Shadows the feature made and I’m positive you’ll be hearing much more about it very soon.

‘The Legend Of Tarzan’ Sneak Peak

 

Eric Northman and Harley Quinn as ‘The King and Queen’ of the jungle? Interesting! – Skatronixxx

The latest incarnation of the man-amongst-Apes tale from Harry Potter Director David Yates has hit our shores with the release of the trailer and new information fresh from Warner Bros.

Yates’ adaptation, The Legend of Tarzan, looks ‘for a different approach’ to the classic tale based upon Edgar Rice Burroughs series of novels. With the director looking for the romanticist in all of us as he takes the audience back to the deep jungles of Africa where we haven’t been ‘for an awfully long time.’

Unlike past incarnations including Disney’s Tarzan (1999), The Legend of Tarzan starts a decade removed from the familiar tale we all know, instead finding John Clayton III (Alexander Skarsgård) acclimatise to life as an English gentleman in 1880’s Victorian London alongside his wife Jane (Margot Robbie). It isn’t long before John is asked by Parliament to act as an emissary, returning him to the Congo, placing himself, old friends and Jane in danger.

Speaking with USA Today, leading man Alexander Skarsgård highlighted the different approach that the film takes, explaining that ‘It’s almost the opposite of the classic tale, where it’s about taming the beast.This is about a man who’s holding back and slowly as you peel off the layers, he reverts back to a more animalistic state and lets that side of his personality out.’

The movie also uses historical context with Djimon Hounsou and Samuel L. Jackson portraying real-life figures of Chief Mbonga and George Washington Williams. With Christoph Waltz, coming in hot from haming-it-up as the Bond Villain in SPECTRE, playing the primary antagonist Leon Rom. A fictionalised Belgian explorer with whom acts in the stead of Belgium’s King Leopold II who sought to colonised the Congo in the 1880’s, becoming responsible for the slaughter of millions of the lands native residents.

The film will undoubtedly have a grittier tone when dealing with such dark history, a directorial decision that will also be reflected in Margot Robbie’s performance. ‘[She is] in no way a passive partner to Tarzan’ expresses the director. ‘She’s a really strong, assertive, beautifully knowledgeable, very sexy modern woman who can more than look after herself.’ Yates also gives his interpretation of the chemistry between the two: ‘In a way, it’s a story of two human beings and how they save each other.’

The Legend of Tarzan will be swinging into theatres July 1, 2016 but in the mean time enjoy the trailer released today.

‘Rebecca Ferguson’ Will Return For ‘MI-6’

No it’s not Rebecca Ferguson the singer – Skatronixxx

MI:5 Rogue Nation (2015) actress Rebecca Ferguson is reportedly returning to the spy world for the long standing franchise sixth outing.

Sources out of Showbiz 411 reveal that the actress is ‘signed, sealed, and delivered for part 6.’ The rumours, if proven true, will make Ferguson the first Mission Impossible leading lady to return for a second film.

The Swedish actress played Ilsa Faust in Rogue Nation. An undercover MI6 agent in The Syndicate, whose motives are called into question on numerous occasions throughout the movie.

Ferguson will join a returning Tom Cruise as leading man Ethan Hunt, with Rogue Nation Director Christopher McQuarrie once again helming the film who has also been tapped to scripted the sequel as well.

Paramount are looking to put the film into production for August next year with the film appearing in theatres in 2017.

Netflix’s ‘Iron Fist’ Finds A Show Runner

Iron Fist looks poised to join his cohorts on the mean streets of New York’s Hells Kitchen, as the Netflix/Marvel series gains a show runner.

An announcement this week via the streaming service, revealed that Steve Buck (Dexter, Rome & Six Feet Under) has jumped on board as show runner for the Iron Fist series. No information was given as to the release window for the next phase in Netflix’s superhero series but with the release of Daredevil season 2 and a Luke Cage series coming in 2016. It may be awhile before we see the martial artist realised on screen.

Currently fans have been introduced to Daredevil early this year with Jessica Jones having been realised late last month. Both shows carries a more mature tone reflecting the more street-level crimes that both heroes combat in Hells Kitchen, a stark contrast to more grandiose escapades of their Avengers counterparts.

Although unconfirmed it is believed that the series will air before the planned The Defenders mini series designed to bring together Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist together in a team-up series similar to a big-budget crossover event seen in Avengers Assemble and Age of Ultron. Details are scarce on the nature of the Iron Fist series but Netflix did release a synopsis along with their announcement that hinted towards the continued gritty tone established by its predecessors:

‘Returning to New York City after being missing for years, Daniel Rand fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible Kung-Fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.’

Iron Fist first appeared in the pages of Marvel in the 1970’s as a deliberate response to the popularity of Kung-Fu movies at the time. He was soon joined by partner in crime Luke Cage, whose dynamic duo team-up lasted for several years.

With Cage currently appearing in the Jessica Jones series, could we see Iron Fist make a cameo in Luke Cage before his own series debuts? I wait excitedly with flaming-fists a ready.

CBS’s Supergirl Gets An Ongoing Comic Book

My love for CBS’s Supergirl has been no secret. In fact, my comparison of its Pilot episode this can be read here http://goo.gl/Q9B3Yd) to one of my beloved series of all time, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, probably endears itself to my longing to see that show again. Nostalgia alert indeed.

I don’t seem alone however as Supergirl’s ground breaking debut records for a comic-book adaptation on Tv has been rewarded with a new digital first, ongoing comic book series. An article out of Bleeding cool brought attention to a listing on Amazon that revealed that the comic book series will tie “directly into” the show and will follow Supergirl, Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist), and her growing team of supporters as they fight Alien threats to Earth and criminal mis-adventures.

The comic book series wont be the first Tv show tie-in based on a Greg Berlanti led show. The show runner has also seen his other hit superhero shows Arrow and The Flash gain comic book tie-ins that bridge the gaps between seasons and even feature prequel stories.

The submission on Amazon failed to reveal any story details but did indicate an early August 2016 release.

CBS has already ordered the show to full season which is strong indication that we will see a season 2 for Superman’s cousin. Now if only there could be a way to get Sarah Michelle Gellar on the show … make it so Internet.

‘Shawn Ashmore’ Would Be Open To Play Iceman As Gay

2015 proved a big year for the X-Men in comic books. Marvel went full tilt on changing the landscape of our favourite mutants world from killing main-stay Wolverine to pushing Mutants into a fight for survival (again) against the InHumans whose Terrigan Mist is proving lethal to our heroes.

Despite all this Marvel writers had time to lay out a delicately handled story that saw Iceman Bobby Drake reconcile with his sexuality and come out as gay. This turn of event came out of a story that saw a younger Iceman brought forward (alongside Jean Grey, Cyclops, Angel and Beast) into the present, where readers saw an interaction between himself and Jean Grey when she read his mind revealing that he was conflicted about his sexuality. In an issue that saw comic book writer legend Brian Michael Bendis end his current run on the All New X-Men. The present day Bobby Drake confined in his younger counterpart, that his courage gives him the strength to live his life as a gay man, which fans are able to follow in Marvel comics current run Extraordinary X-Men.

Speaking at the 2015 game awards to promote his new game/Tv tie in Quantum Break. Canadian actor Shawn Ashmore told IGN that he would be open to playing his role as Iceman in the Fox line of X-Men movies as gay: ‘Obviously the comics and movies are separate. Iwonder what the transition would be because we’ve sort of established Bobby as having a love interest in Rogue and having a love interest in sort of Kitty Pryde, but I think it’d be really interesting.’

The actor further expressed his desire to see future films handle the transition in storylines explaining: ‘I think it’d probably be the most interesting thing that could happen to Bobby in the films. If they decided to take the story that way, it’d be incredibly dramatic, it’d be an interesting storyline, and it would give Bobby a great character arc. I’d definitely be open to that, but again, I’m not sure if they want to take the character in that direction. I have no idea how they would play that out. I think it’d be very interesting.’

Ashmore also commented that he would like to branch out into other roles within the superhero genre suggesting that ‘I think at a certain point you can be saturated as an actor if you’re playing too many [comic book] characters, but there’s been some really successful people that have done multiple comic book characters, so I’d definitely be open to that, but I think it would have to be the right fit, you know? Especially because I’ve played Iceman for 12 years at this point. I feel like you sort of live in that skin, so would have to be something just perfect to branch out into.’

Although I would be excited to see Ahsmore take Iceman in a different direction, considering that I am neither a fan of the Rogue or Kitty relationships portrayed in the films, but thats for another article. I feel, like many fans, that the original cast of the first trilogy is probably done. Especially considering that they all received a happy ending at X-Men: Days of Future Past end.

That being said, with Hugh Jackman constantly returning time and again as Wolverine. Maybe its a matter of time before the Iceman cometh once again.
