Star Trek Writer Admits Khan Twist Was A Mistake

Khaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan – Skatronixxx

Before Star Trek Into Darkness was released, Benedict Cumberbatch’s casting in JJ. Abrams sequel to his reboot of the original franchise. Was perhaps cinema’s worst kept secret, even though the filmmakers at the time wouldn’t admit to the actors casting as the infamous villain Khan.

‘When we did Star Trek Into Darkness for example, we decided that we weren’t going to tell people that Benedict Cumberbatch was playing Khan’ explained writer Damon Lindelof. ‘And that was a mistake, because the audience was like, We know he’s playing Khan. That was why it was a mistake. But J.J. [Abrams] is telling us nothing about the new Star Wars movie and we love it. I’ve not come across a single person who’s like, I wish I knew a little bit more. We are like, ‘Thank God he’s protecting us from all the things that will be revealed in the movie theater.’

Star Wars: The Force Awakens director Abrams echo similar sentiments back in 2013 when asked about the mystery surrounding the casting: ‘The truth is I think it probably would have been smarter just to say upfront, ‘This is who it is . It was only trying to preserve the fun of it, and it might have given people more time to acclimate and accept that’s what the thing was.’

With the third sequel, Star Trek Beyond, currently in production, director Justin Lin (Fast & Furious, True Detective) will be hoping for a better reaction to his adventure than the previously critically maligned Into Darkness. With fan favourites Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto returning to their roles as James T. Kirk and Spock. Star Trek Beyond is due to hit theatres July 22, 2016.

Star Wars Rebels Renewed For Season 3

rebels.png

Are you a fan of Disney’s Star Wars Rebels? – Skatronixxx

With all the frenzy surrounding the new era of Star Wars starting with The Force Awakens coming to a cinema near you this December. Its easy to forget about the old era, or more accurately, the original era which is still very much alive on our Tv screens with Disney’s Star Wars Rebels.

Fans of the original series set between the first and second trilogy of films will be pleased to hear that the Disney X.D. animated series has been renewed for a third consecutive season. Kiri Hart, Senior VP of Development at Lucasfilm, commented in a press release that ‘the show continues to tell fun, heartfelt, exciting new Star Wars stories week after week, and it’s beloved by fans of all ages.’

For the uninitiated, Star Wars Rebels follows the misfit team aboard The Ghost as they find themselves recruited by the start of a Rebellion that looks to defeat the evil Galactic Empire. A spiritual successor of the popular Star Wars: The Clone Wars that ran for six seasons (and the last Star Wars project to be overseen by George Lucas himself). Rebels has seen its numbers grow since it debut early this year, due in no small part the appearance of Darth Vader as the shows primary antagonist and a re-appearance of The Clone Wars fan favourite Ahsoka Tano (Ashley Eckstein) in season two.

Currently the second most-watched show on the companies child-centric cable channel Disney XD. The series has also proven a ratings hit with adult viewers with more than 48 million worldwide. With season two yet to finish its current run, Hart teased that season three ‘will see our Rebel heroes face new obstacles and find new allies in their fight against the Empire.’

Season Two is currently airing repeats daily on Disney XD with new episodes debuting every Saturday morning in the UK.

Ryan Gosling Eyed For Neil Armstrong Biopic

ryang

Is Ryan Gosling going where no man has gone before? – Skatronixxx

As a Ryan Gosling fan, I have known for some time that the actor is out of this world talented but it seems that the Canadian actor may be going further into space by lending his actors chops to Universals Neil Armstrong biopic First Man.

A source close to Deadline reports that Gosling is currently ‘being courted’ by the studio who hopes that he will step into the boots of the famed astronaut. Spotlight (2015) writer Josh Singer is working on the screenplay, based upon the autobiography First Man: The life of Neil A. Armstrong written by James Hasen, detailing the man’s life and historic Apollo 11 space mission. The Oscar bait story will also see director Damien Chazelle take the helm after his surprise hit Whiplash gained critical acclaim early this year.

If Universal are dead set for Gosling to take the lead they will have to wait until the actor has completed work on Blade Runner 2 first, after confirming last week his involvement with the sci-fi sequel.

Captain America: Civil War Trailer Drops

civilwar

Whose side are you on? – Skatronixxx

Marvel fans around the world took note today as the first trailer for the much anticipated Captain America: Civil War dropped giving some much needed answers to geek-dom questions everywhere.

Since Marvel revealed that they would be adapting the story from one of their more successful crossover events from the comics. Questions regarding how closely they would stick to the source material have dominated the discussion.

From what we saw of the trailer it appears that Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) friendship with the Winter Soldier, Bucky Barns (Sebastian Stan), kickstarts the debate of superhero registration that puts Capt and his New Avengers firmly in the crosshairs of Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and the rest of the Government officials hell bent on bringing down the Winter Soldier.

For a movie considered a cross-over event in the same vein as The Avengers. The trailer suggests a more focus story following on from the events of The Winter Soldier that saw the fall of SHIELD and apparent death of Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) at the hands of Hydra and brainwashed Bucky Barns. With Rogers standing by his best friend it appears that the resurrected SHIELD will go to any lengths to get their man, seemingly holding Barns responsible for their implosion and Capt as the obstacle in their way.

In case you haven’t seen it ENJOY – Skatronixxx

With both Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) and the new Spider-Man (Tom Holland) making their debut in the film. It is still unknown what capacity the two will play in the overall story with Peter Parker proving a bigger mystery given that the character proves vital in the comic book story.

Expect more information to be revealed before May 6, 2016 when the film is released in theatres.

drstrange

I think this movie will surprise alot of people – Skatronixxx

After numerous scoops and set photo leaks, Marvel has finally officially confirmed the identity of their cast for Doctor Strange even though we still don’t know who the bloody hell they will be playing. In an announcement via marvel.com, the superhero juggernauts gave an official synopsis that looks to up the quirk-factor set by those pesky Guardians of the Galaxy. ‘Doctor Strange follows the story of neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a horrific car accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions.’

The titular character will of course be played by everyones favourite Sherlock Holmes, Benedict Cumberbatch, who will look to bring his horde of Cumber-bitches to Marvel as he casts a spell over the cinematic universe. He will be joined in his inter-dimensional escapades by Rachel McAdams, Tilda Swinton and Michael Stuhlbarg. As they look to take down 12 Years A Slave’s Chiwetel Ejiofor as he steps into the role of the villainous Baron Mordo.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Director Debunks Rumours Of Star-Lord’s Father

gog

Who’s Star-Lord’s father? – Skatronixxx

Director of Marvel’s quirky smash-hit Guardians of the Galaxy James Gun, took to Facebook to quash rumours surrounding his leading man’s parentage: ‘The rumours surrounding Quill’s parentage at the present moment are completely false, and aren’t even close to the truth.’ The directors outburst was in response to reports regarding the identity of Star-Lord Peter Quill’s father, a purported major player in the sequel planned for release in May 2017.

Original reports regarding the identity of Quills father alleged that the original Captain Marvel, also known as Mar-Vell, would have been revealed to be everyones favourite scoundrels dad. Created by Stan Lee and Gene Colan in 1967, Mar-Vell was an intergalactic spy for the Kree Empire sent to Earth to identify our weaknesses for an eventual invasion. The soldier would eventually become turncoat for Earth after falling in love with his new home becoming a champion of the people and even joining The Avengers.

With rumours detailing that Mar-Vell would play a key role in Guardians 2, Gun took umbrage with the statement explaining that ‘We’re creating a film that doesn’t rely on plot twists to be an enjoyable experience. They’re only a very small part of what we’re cooking up for you.’

Could we be seeing Mar-Vell in Guardians 2 ? – Skatronixxx

The now debunked rumour also alluded that this was the role that Oscar Winner Matthew McConaughey recently turned down, with some outlets reporting that Marvel had offered the Interstellar star a villainous role for his Marvel debut.

With Gun officially taking Mar-Vell off the table for discussion. It does beg the question of who possibly could be the Star-Lord’s daddy. With information imparted to Quill by the Nova-Corps in Guardians 1 that he does possess Alien DNA. Chances are the wayward father wont be found on Earth … or will he?

Casey Jones

Tick Tock are you about to be Shell Shocked? – Skatronixxx

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans better book their tickets for Star Wars The Force Awakens pronto if new cast member for the long awaited sequel is to be believed.

Stephen Amell who is set to appear alongside Megan Fox and the CGI Turtles as fan favourite Casey Jones. Hinted to a fan, while appearing at Heroes and Villains fan fest, that ‘If you’re a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Fan, then you’re going to want to go to the theatre in December before a relatively big movie that’s being released for a fantastic trailer.’

Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that The Force Awakens is that ‘December’ movie and is a big boon for director Michael Bay to generate buzz for his ninja Turtles sequel.

With Bays reboot drawing dead with critics last year, the first in a planned franchise did go on to earn $493.3 million worldwide, more that tripled the budget for the film. The sequel, titled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Half Shell, will also see the return of Alan Richardson (Raphael), Noel Fisher (Michelangelo), Jeremy Howard (Donatello) and Johnny Knoxville (Leonardo) as the voices of the heroes in a half shell. Vin Diesel’s Riddick Comes To Tv

Riddick

A Riddick tv show? This could be DAMN good or DAMN bad – Skatronixxx

Only last week, action icon Vin Diesel revealed plans are in the works to make spin-off films of the inexplicably successful Fast and Furious franchise. But it seems that the American actor is not content to stop there, announcing the return of another franchise on his resume.

Via his Instagram account, Diesel announced a TVs series set in the fictional sci-fi world of Riddick is to be made. Titled Merc City the show ‘will follow the Mercs and Bounty hunters of the Riddick Universe’ and will be produced internally by Diesels own production company One Race Films.

Little details have been released alongside the announcement but the Riddick actor did confirm that David Twohy has started work on the third sequel in the Chronicle of Riddick anthology.

The character of Riddick spawn from the sci-fi horror film Pitch Black directed by Twohy and released in 2000. The film saw a handful of misfit humans crash land on a seemingly lifeless desert planet only for them to start being hunted by alien monsters that crave the dark.

The character of Riddick proved so popular with audiences that Vin Diesel returned to portray the Furyan in a further two sequels, The Chronicles of Riddick and Riddick.

Fans of the sci-fi series will be craving for Diesel to appear in the new Tv show but we will have to wait and see if that will be possible with the actors franchise duties keeping him busy.

An Interview With The Walking Dead’s Steve Coulter

steve.png

It’s Steve Coulter, actor, writer, all round cool guy!

Who is Steve Coulter? Fans of The Walking Dead will know him as Reg Monroe in hit tv show The Walking Dead. There’s also much more to Steve but I’m not going to insert a spoiler here, you’ll have to read on to find out about him, where he’s come from and what he’s got lined up for the coming months.

Steve is another one of my verified followers who agreed to do an interview on the site. Before I sent the interview we got chatting and he seems like an awesome and talented guy. I am truly blessed to have such amazing and cool followers like Steve.

So let’s find out a little more him!

———————————————————————————————————————————————————–

1) How did you get into acting?

I was extremely shy growing up, and especially in school.  I was terrified of even reading out loud in class.  In 8th grade, we were assigned to write a report about Hungary, and instead of writing the report, two friends and I presented a scene that we wrote, pretending to be members of an underground resistance movement in Hungary.  We had candles, toy guns, and that way we talked about the history, geography, and history of Hungary.  It went over really well, and I think it sparked something in me.

I also say a school production of “Our Town”, and I was totally captivated by it and thought, “I want to do THAT.”  So started doing plays in junior high and high school.  I was still shy, but somehow, playing someone else was easy and a great escape. I ended up going to an acting conservatory program for college at the North Carolina School of the Arts and figured out how to make a living at this thing.

2) You were in The Walking Dead as Reg Monroe, what was it like being on such a cult show and do you have any interesting stories from your time there?

I had been a huge fan of the The Walking Dead from the first episode, so I was very excited to be on the show.  I’d auditioned for the show twice before, my first audition was for the role of Hershel (and I think Scott Wilson did a MUCH better job than I ever could have done). Hadn’t realized it was going to be a recurring role, and had no idea what would eventually happen to Reg.

It was funny how I learned that Reg wasn’t going to make it out of season 5 alive.  I’d gotten a message that Scott Gimple (the showrunner) wanted to meet with me.  I think I was shooting my second episode at the time.  I naively thought that he just wanted to chat about the character.  We played phone tag for a day or so, then I got another message saying “Scott wants to talk to you about what’s coming up in the finale episode.”  My immediate thought was, “Awww…I’m gonna die.”  We finally talked on a Saturday, and Scott was extremely apologetic. Literally apologizing around a dozen times, but he said “It’s gonna be really cool, though…you die in the final scene of the final episode!”.  I was disappointed and excited at the same time.  I would’ve loved to continue on the show, but I got to go out with quite a bang.

 RIP Reg *sniff sniff*

3) You also starred as Elijah Bowman in the TV series Banshee, how would you describe your character and the show to someone who has not seen it before?

Banshee takes place in the Amish country of Pennsylvania, and Elijah is a leader in that community.  He is the father of Rebecca, who he has cast out of the Amish world because of her “worldly” activities.  The Amish lead a very stoic life – no electricity, cars, phones, etc.  And he has a pretty nifty Amish beard, which took about an hour and a half to apply in the makeup trailer every day.

That is a DAMN cool beard

4) If you could be in one existing film, what film and character would you choose and why?

Great question.  I think Jason Bourne, in any of the Bourne movies.  Because he gets to do a bunch of really cool stuff.  Appeals to that 11 year-old in me.  Either that, or any Western.

5) I see that you are also a writer, are you working on any projects currently you can share with us?

I wrote a pilot script for a series we’re developing, called “The Land”.  It’s the story of a farm family, and if I had to compare it to something, I’d might say it’s a 21st century version of “The Waltons”. Or Downton Abby for the U.S.

6) Can we expect to see you at any conventions in the US or UK in the coming months?

I’ll be at the New York/New Jersey Walker Stalker Convention the first week of December.  Possibly in London in 2016, but I think I’m shooting a film at the time, so iffy as to whether I could go.

7) What can we expect to see from you in the remaining months of 2015 and into 2016?

I appear opposite Bruce Willis in the film, “Extraction”, which opens this December.  I play his boss at the CIA, and my character drops a LOT of f-bombs.  I just finished shooting “The Conjuring 2” out in LA, and that’s coming out later in 2016. Next year you can also see me in “The Wizard of Lies” with Robert DeNiro on HBO, with Jamie Foxx in “Sleepless Night”, “The Founder” with Michael Keaton, and “Mena”, with Tom Cruise”.

8) Tell our readers one fun fact about yourself that they may not already know?

Hmm, let me think…I’m a cartoonist.  Almost did that instead of becoming an actor. And I wanted to be a professional baseball player when I was growing up.  However, it turns out you have to be a good baseball player to do that.

9) Finally what advice would you have for an upcoming actress or actor?

Know that it is a long-distance race, not a sprint.  Take classes, work on things you have control over, since so much is out of your control in this business.  Like in any other profession or in sports, preparation is SO important…work harder than anyone else, but keep a sense of humor and don’t take yourself too seriously.  And be nice to everyone on your way up.

Andy Serkis is a man of many faces, the talented actor has brought to life some of cinemas lasting characters. From Gollum in The Lord of the Rings to resistance fighter Cesar in the new Planet of the Apes franchise. Serkis has been at the forefront of motion capture acting in modern cinema.

But now the actor shares with Empire magazine that his role of Supreme Leader Snoke in the new Star Wars film was a scary experience. ‘It was quite an unusual situation’, explained Serkis revealing his characters impressive height. ‘My first day was basically standing on a 25-foot podium doing Lord Snoke without the faintest idea of what he looked like or in fact who he was.’

The actor further revealed that he worked closely alongside Adam Driver and Domhnall Gleeson who are known to be the films primary antagonist as the New Orders lieutenants Kylo Ren and General Hux. ‘I was very high up, totally on my own, away from everybody else, but acting with them.’

Beside the characters King Kong like size, of which Serkis has more than enough experience in dealing with. The British actor further elaborated on his characters appearance and persona explaining: ‘He is severely damaged. Although he is a powerful leader, he comes across as vulnerable. Very scarred and disfigured.’

Serkis also gave an insight on how he coped with the characters size, revealing: ‘we used sort of a ‘Kongizer‘ method of having sound come out of speakers to give a sense of scale and distance from the character.’ The King Kong actor further added: ‘it was very challenging and scary, in fact probably one of the most scary film experiences I’ve ever had.’

With images of Sekis’ Supreme Leader Snoke unavailable at present so we will have to wait with anticipation for how he looks when the film is released next month. I can’t wait.
