Doctor Who: The Escape. William Harnell years

Welcome back,

We last left off; Susan was heading back to her captured friends who are all sick with radiation poisoning…

“Ooooooweeeeeooooooooo”

Susan exits the doors to the TARDIS, there is a storm coming. Lightning and thunder all around. Suddenly she looks up, and there is a blond hotty staring down at her. She looks at him frightened, “What do you want?” she asks timidly. “Don’t be afraid” the blond Stanger responds. Susan asks again “What do you want? “ Blonde hotness starts to walk toward her, Susan is cowering on the ground. “Please help. What do they call you? But your not, you’re perfect.” Susan observes in disbelief. (Oh honey, yes he is.) “I tried to speak to you in the forest yesterday but I frightened you, I’m sorry.’ The blonde man apologizes. Susan responds, “I was frightened, I was terrified.” “Yes, I was very clumsy” the tall Stanger confesses. He informs her that he has come to help them understand how to use the medications he had left. Susan is surprised that he is the one who left them the ‘drugs’ but confesses that they have not taken them yet. “You have not taken the drugs!?’ blondie asks in shock. “We must go back and save my friends, they have been captured’ Susan states. “But you must take them, you are to sick for it.” The blonde mc’hotty insists, jumping down toward her. He then asks about the prisoners. She tells him of the Daleks, which he seems to be aware of. He is confused as to why the Daleks want the drugs, feeling like they have alternate reasons to want them. He then advises a plan to give her more medication to hide with her while she returns to the Daleks. “I am Aladan of the Nafaries.” He introduces himself. (I think that’s what he said…) He then informs Susan that he will return with her to the Daleks. He then takes off the cape he is wearing and hands it over to Susan to keep her warm. Susan then again asks him about his appearance, stating that the Daleks told them that the others were mutated. Aladan is confused and wonders what the Daleks looks like instead. They then start to head into the forest, back to the other prisoners.

Back in the city, “I have returned the girl to the cell.” The first Dalek informs the other, who is standing at a console. They are now considering the prisoner’s request for water, and have decided to bring them some. They believe that the girls has made contact with the ‘Sows” and that she will bring the Sows to them.

Back in the prison room, Susan has the Doctor’s head in her hands as she is giving him the medication. “The Sows said the medicine would act quickly,” Susan states, as she feeds the Doctor more water. They are grateful for the medication. Ian notices that the Sows seem friendlier. Barbara wonders why the Daleks think the Sows are mutants. Then Doctor wakes up, confused on what day it is and insists that they need to leave quickly. Susan decides they need to talk with the Daleks. She then sits on the floor, holding the cape that Aladan had given to her, and tells the story of the Sows survival after the war. (They had found some land and pretty much stayed hidden.) They rely on a great rain-fall that happens once every 4 or 5 years. (That must be nice, here in Oregon, it rains all the time..) But apparently its two years over due and the crops are ruined. While Susan is telling the story, she is unaware that the camera in the cell is monitoring her. As she continues with the story, the Daleks are listening in. She tells them that the Sows want to meet with the Daleks and arrange a treaty. The scene pans out from the cell and to the view of the camera, then panning back more to see the two Daleks who are watching her. “We could let this catastrophe destroy the Sows.” The one Dalek says to the other. They decide that keeping the prisoners alive was a good idea, and may be the keys to helping them destroy the Sows. They will let the prisoners leave and bring food to the Sows, but then this will give the Sows a false sense of security, which will help with the capturing, and destruction of the enemy.

The prison door opens as the heroes are lying on the floor, healing from the medication given to them. A Dalek comes through the door with a tray, “We have bring you food and more water, the girl is to come with me… she will be returned. We are going to help the Sows which is what you want us to do.” The Dalek lies. He then insists that they leave now. Susan follows, but Ian and the Doctor are not convinced of their hospitality.

We then switch to the Sows, Aladon is perching on a rock. He then sees his other natives and hops down. A few of them are approaching now; they see the big blue box and inspect it for a second. “ So Aladon, we were right to believe the city inhabited,” the other native called Genisis announces. Aladon confirms this. They all then wonder what the Daleks will be like, hoping that they have changed along with the Sows over the centuries. The Daleks were teachers and scientists at one point. They are in hopes that they can learn and exchange ideas with the tin cans. Genisis then wonders where the girl is now, and if they are all trust worthy. Aladon explains that he has given the female drugs and she returned to the city. The female of the tribe walks over and states “Would have been better if you had given it to a man instead of a girl.” “I had to, the others are prisoners in the city.” replies Aladon. They continue discussing the prisoners, and of the conversation that took place between Susan and Aladon. The leader Genisis does not feel that the talking’s of the young lady is that important. (Wow this group is sexist… ) The conversation then changes as they discuss their situation, the tribe is in need of food and supplies to continue to survive. But the conversation then goes back to a rescue of the prisoners, and how to find out if the Daleks are hostile.

The scene cuts back to Susan, she is biting her nails while writing a list of the supplies the Daleks will give to the Sows. The Daleks are telling her what to write. They are talking to fast so she is struggling to keep up. The Daleks explain that in return they expect the Sows to help then. After she is done writing, the Dalek instructs her to sit still while they proofread what she has written. The one Daleks is having a hard time reading the last word on her list. The Dalek attempts to sound it out, which causes Susan to giggle. “Stop that noise!” The dalek demands irritably. “Its what I am called, its my name, Susan” Susan explains to the Dalek. “And you told the sows that you would write this way of the message” Susan confirms this, then informs the Dalek that they do not need to be frightened of the Sows. She then asks to be the one who delivers the message to them, but the Dalek declines insisting that they have a plan otherwise. You can then hear the Doctor and Ian talking in the background, they are wondering how long Susan will be missing for. The Dalek approaches the monitor where our friends can be seen. The monitor then goes black. Susan figures out that the Daleks could hear them the whole time, and this is how they knew about the Sows. “It does not matter, we have the message now.” Susan is starting to figure out, this may not be a good meeting after all. (bum bum bum) Another Dalek then pushes Susan in the back with his toilet plunger.

Ian and the Doctor are discussing in the cell. Ian thinks they are up to no good, but the Doctor has hopes they are here to help. (psh, ya right) Ian is frustrated with the Doctor, always defending the Daleks and confronts him on the matter. Ian grabs the Doctor by the upper arms and asks angrily “Look, I want to know why! Why are you with them and against the rest of us!?” “Get your hands off me!” The Doctor yells. There is a small wrestling match between the two men, Susan gets in (magically appearing in the chamber) and tries to stop them. She then, after separating the men, runs over to the camera on the wall and tears it down.

The two Daleks notice the monitor is off, “ Do you think there is a malfunction?” the one Dalek asks the other, “No, they tore it down” They figure out that the humans can’t be fooled. “Shall we move them to another room until the camera is repaired.” The one Dalek decides “No.” The other declines “EXTERMINATION then.” The third insists. (EEEEEEEEEK) the other Dalek feels that they will be useful in the future so they decide not to exterminate the heroes, but first to deal with the sows.

The heroes are trying to figure out how to stop the Daleks. Pondering ways to trick them. But Ian is worried of what they can do to them. The Doctor figure’s out that the floors are metal, and that this is essential to the Daleks. They are figuring out what makes them tick. Concluding that they are powered by electricity. This then helps the Doctor assess how they are conducting the electricity they use. Ian then has an idea; he is examining the cloak that was given to Susan from the sows. He feels that the material from the cloak may be the key to taking out the Daleks.

The sows are gathering supplies; the female is talking to another male, who is the brother of Aladon. Aladon is then talking with Genisis about the Daleks. Wondering if meeting with the Daleks is good idea. Genisis tries to comfort his friend. Then the letter arrives from Daleks, the one written by Susan. Genisis reads the letter allowed to his tribe. The letter informs them, all the supplies they wish can be collected for them tomorrow at the entrance of the Daleks buildings. Genisis has hope for the future.

Susan has her ear to the door, listening for the Daleks. She informs them that the machine is approaching. The Doctor instructs them to monitor everything the machine is doing. The Dalek approaches, instructs Susan to move back from the door and take the food. She does so obediently and the tin man leaves. Ian then walks to the Doctor who is sitting with the food in his lap. They are trying to figure out what they can do to stop the guard next time. Maybe stage something, that way, when the creature is distracted, they can throw something on the lens to blind it. Barbara then takes Susan’s shoe and removes the dirt, combines this with water to make some mud.

Time passes and they are ready for the Dalek to make his timed entrance. The Dalek approaches, unaware of it’s fate. The door opens and the Dalek enters, then gives Susan the food. That’s when Ian places a metal object in the door to help stop it from closing. As the Dalek leaves the room the door tries to close, but is unable to do so. The Dalek comes back into the room, when it is ambushed. Barbara smashes the mud on its lens, and wrestle the Dalek on top of the cloak, rendering it unable to move or function. They remove the head from the Dalek. They find a creature inside. Using the cloak now they lift it out and place the being on the floor. Ian decides to get inside the Daleks metal suit and use it as a decoy. Since Ian is unable to get the tin to move, the team decides to help by pushing him. They leave the room and head down the corridor. The camera pans back to the cloak, as a small-deformed limb starts to move out of the fabric…

David Yates Set To Direct All 5 ‘Fantastic Beasts’ Films

fantastic-beasts

The first film in the ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ franchise is yet to release, but plans are already being made for the future. After learning the franchise is set to be five films long, we now know the people set to Direct and Write the remaining films. David Yates, the man who has directed the first film in the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ series as well as the final four ‘Harry Potter’ films, is on board for the entire franchise. Given his history with the ‘Potter’ universe it makes sense to keep him around, and luckily for him should keep him employed for the next 8 years or so. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter Yates said:

“I love making films, and I’ve got a great team, all of whom are like family, I only look at it movie to movie.”

Whilst Yates directs the series, J.K. Rowling is all set for penning the remaining four films as well, expanding the universe she has so lovingly crafted into exciting new areas.

This was Rowling’s first time penning a screenplay, and though the task seemed daunting for her at first, she looks to be relishing the opportunity to pen another four films:

“I’m never complacent — I’m always feeling like I gotta do my best work, and I’m always pretty hard on myself. We’ve set ourselves an ambitious story to tell in five movies, but it’s going to be challenging and exciting — all the things I like.”

Pre-production is well underway on the sequel, which isn’t set to release until November 16th 2018, but it seems the people involved are already very excited:

“The sequel feels so different from this first film. Much more haunting, like a dream. What she’s doing is really interesting; she’s not repeating herself.”

The sequel looks to be focusing on the relationship between Dumbledore and his close friend Gellert Grindelwald, and it seems likely it will contain an openly gay Dumbledore. Dumbledore’s sexuality was something that wasn’t revealed until after the final ‘Harry Potter’ book had released, nor was it touched on in the film series, but it will no doubt be a big part of Dumbledore in his youth. Rowling was very coy about her answers regarding Dumbledore, but left a fairly meaningful hint.

“You will see Dumbledore as a younger man, and quite a troubled man,” she said. “We will see him in what I think is the formative period of his life. As far as his sexuality is concerned: Watch this space.”

Despite all this talk of a sequel, people haven’t forgotten about the film set to kick things off, and it seems like it went through a fairly lengthy process to get to where it is today:

“The first draft was quite whimsical and lyrical, but it felt it didn’t have any heft and we weren’t sure what it was about,” recalled Yates. “Then Joe took a left turn and it was right up my street: it was really intense and dark. Joe and I loved it, but David Heyman and Steve Kloves very wisely said, ‘Whoa, hang on guys, this needs to get some of the lightness back.’ It was after that dark second draft that Joe suddenly found the melody; then, she was away to the races. It was a struggle to keep up with her because she knew what it was: a balance between light and shade.”

All in all, the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ franchise is gearing up to be an exciting and fascinating one. There’s still no indication as to how much the characters from the first film will feature in the rest, with the feud between Dumbledore and Grindelwald looking set to take centre stage, but no matter what happens it looks like we’re about to get some worthy additions to the ‘Harry Potter’ universe.

‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ debuts in cinemas November 18th.

Supernatural SN12 E5 -The One You’ve Been Waiting For

spn-grenade-launcher

In the latest episode of The Show, our Boys took on the biggest serial killer of all time… Hitler.  I have been looking forward to this episode since before the season even started because this was the episode that brought us Aaron Bass (played by Adam Rose) back.  I love Aaron and the Golem!  Their episode in S8 (E13 Everybody Hates Hitler) is one of my favorite episodes… and of course, I just love Adam!  I was so very disappointed that all the screen time he got was a phone consult.  C’mon guys, couldn’t you have given us a little more than that?  This was a topic that Lucy and I discussed… the consensus was that maybe the actor that played the Golem wasn’t available.  And, I mean really, what’s Sonny without Cher?  Hope to see you again soon, Adam … uh, I mean Aaron.

The prod team for The Show posted a great blooper from this episode on Wednesday before the episode aired.  I have to admit I laughed long and hard over it, and couldn’t wait to see the scene it came from.  Imagine the laughter that ensued when I realized that the line was changed so that Jensen didn’t have to say “sincere”.  Here check out the blooper for yourself…..

DJ was texting me again during this episode, but I think he forgot that I always start watching the show late… so that I can fast forward through the commercials.  Because, he texted me just as I was starting at exactly 8:15 (central)… with “Cue Blue Oyster Cult… (musical notes) I’m burnin’ I’m burnin’ I’m burnin’ (musical notes)”.  At first, I thought it was an excellent pick up line … but the next text was … “(musical notes) And it burns, burns, burns… The Ring of Fire (musical notes)”.  My friend has a sick sense of humor, but I realized he was talking about The Show.  Just so ya know, DJ agreed with Lucy and me (again, yes it’s supposed to be me not I … look it up).   He thought Adam’s part should’ve been bigger and said “It would have been great to see the Golem again too.” (I’m throwing that part in so that the SPN writing team realize that there’s more than just two crazy female fans in Arkansas that would like to see them again… there’s THREE crazy fans.)

So, the story for this episode was that Hitler’s soul was trapped in a gold pocket watch and The Thule (an organization of Nazi Necromancers) wanted to use that to resurrect the Fuhrer.  The Boys find the case because of the two people that spontaneously combusted in the first 5 minutes of the show… hence DJ’s texts.  Of course, The Thule means a phone call consult with Aaron Bass was necessary.

The Nazis need to get their hands on Ellie who is a blood relative of Hitler.  Because, The Fuhrer can only be put into a body that carries his blood.  The Boys are trying to keep Ellie safe, and of course, stop Hitler.

As you might expect, the Nazis do actually get their hands on Ellie, and The Boys have to storm the place and save the day.  Dean wants to use a grenade launcher (where did they get a grenade launcher?)… but Sam, ever the voice of reason, won’t let him.  I loved when The Boys come face to face with Hitler (in Nauhaus’ body) and The Fuhrer says, “You must be important, he feared you,” meaning Nauhaus.  Dean says “Nice new meat suit, did it come with two testicles this time?”  Hitler brags about how much his book sold and says “Imagine what I can do with Twitter.”  I didn’t miss the resemblance there to Trump, and believe me I needed it after the election.  I giggled hysterically at that point.  Chuck, I love my Show!

The best part of The Show was when Sam announces “Dude, you killed Hitler” with true hero worship written all over his face when he looks at his brother (Jared did such a great job with that reaction!).  At first, there’s real shock on Dean’s face as he realizes that he did indeed kill Hitler.  That starts a whole gag of Dean repeating “I killed Hitler” over and over.  When Sammy got back into Baby at the end of the episode, I said, “Please say ‘I killed Hitler’ again.”  And, of course, Dean did not disappoint.  And, yes… he does deserve pie for killing Hitler…. lots and lots of pie.

Next week, we get the return of Mary …. and Sheriff Jody!!!  Yes, that squee’ing you hear is definitely me.  Here, check it out… you’ll be squee’ing too!

The ‘Survivor: Millennials Vs Gen-X’ Review – “I’m The Kingpin”

What a hair-raising episode for Adam fans! Given the through-line we got, I was convinced that I was losing yet another one of my favourites. Especially when he didn’t use that Idol!

More on that point, what a great look for Hannah. The awkward home-girl of the Geek contingent, Hannah was able to put Adam at ease and tell him to “relax bro” after his squirrelly antics saw the vote sway in his direction a number of times. That’s not to say Hannah can win this but I’m ready for more airtime for her when considered that female Millennials are an endangered species right now.

Damn it Michelle! Where were those Jedi mind tricks girl? After her elaborate plan to vote out Mari (a little less salty), I was at least content that Michelle was a good player (which I still stand by that) and excited to see her go far. But these attractive females need to stop hanging off the Bros in the games. We have reached a point in Survivor when the “Meat shield” is a valid and successful plan to win outright, just ask Cambodia Sole Survivor Jeremy Collins. So with that trend set to continue, the unassuming female player that usually looks to go far becomes a target at the Merge. Even more so when Hidden Immunity Idols are in the mix, an x-factor that contributed more to Michelle’s exit than anything she did wrong, but still meant she took the hit when the Majority alliance weren’t sure whether Jay would past his Idol to Taylor but defiantly knew that Michelle would not receive it.

These Survivor nerds need to stop, listen to Hannah and chill out.

If it isn’t David giving me heart palpitations in the pre-Merge, Adam has now stepped up and become determined to send me to an early grave. Seriously, what in the hell possessed him to tell Taylor about this #SurvivorFirst advantage of stealing a reward, which is flat-out dumb by the way. I get that you have spent X amount of days together but you sent his Survivor Girlfriend home … he is not on your side! But then again when Tails is Mason-Jaring-i- up and stealing food, an alliance with the Dumb-arse Meat-Shield maybe isn’t such a bad plan. If he was on your side, which he ain’t, so still bad.

Will stepped into the fray tonight and really annoyed me. I know I should be all “he’s just a High Schooler” and “isn’t it cool that he is out there” but I’m not. I want more old people falling over rather than young people winning Immunity and thinking they are ‘Bad Asses’ for doing one entertaining thing this whole time. Perhaps the purple aspect to his edit puts him at a disadvantage but I just don’t care for Will, which is too bad because I know that he is a super fan and I want to root for him. But when you essentially just a pawn in the great scheme of things you get lumped in with the Sundays of the show and that is really bad place to be.

Maybe I’ll eat my words when he wins the game but … he ain’t wining the game.

Speaking of edits, Bret has really turned his game around. It’s possible that his spike in visibility is a precursor to a boot nearing soon but the idea of  Tri-Force of Bret, Chris and Zeke running this game to end might not be as crazy as it would’ve sounded in the Pre-Merge.

With so many lame ducks still around I’m certainly not against any three of the aforementioned Bro’s winning this game. I can’t shake this feeling however that someone underwhelming may steal this entire thing. Least not forget that Ken and Jessica still have that tight bond and an Legacy Advantage in the back pocket. I can see if those two take a Goat to final, Ken will easily win. Which would sour my opinion of what has been a surprisingly fun season so far.

With three Hidden Immunity Idols still in the mix though, I’m sure Millennials Vs Gen-X has some surprises still in store.

Regular Show: In Space S8 E22 ‘The Key to the Universe’

https://i.ytimg.com/vi/xkZ0K705urM/hqdefault.jpg

The legendary trainer Earl just wants to train Pops to save the universe. The group isn’t sure Pops is actually the hero but still are curious what he would teach him. Earl tells them the story of Pops and Anti Pops’ fight and how their fight resets the universe. Pops doesn’t want to fight but if he is trained by Earl he could defeat Anti Pops for good.

Mordecai and Rigby watch Pops train but are unimpressed by Earl’s methods. It is similar to the idea of watching Master Miyagi teach wax on wax off. Clearly in the end Pops will learn something even though this man’s teachings are so unorthodox. Humorously the wax on wax off lesson is also in this episode.

Pops is being worked to the bone but his lessons are not doing much for Pops. Pops finally goes off on Earl because he doesn’t want any of this. Earl shows Pops what happened the last time he and his foe fought. If only Pops had more training then, maybe he could have defeated this monster. Of course seeing this destruction makes Pops cry and run away. Pops runs through the park to his safe place with his friends in tow.

Pops just wants to a regular oddly shaped headed man, but his friends know he can do this. Earl shows Pops that his training wasn’t for nothing and then tells him his training can really begin now.

Regular Show’s final season is really heating up. Can’t wait to see Pops take down Anti Pops in the coming episodes. This show is certainly going to end in a way I would have never guessed. The next episode airs next week and is called ‘No Train No Gain.’

You’re the Worst S3 E11 ‘The Inherent,Unsullied Qualitative Value of Anything’

https://cdn.pastemagazine.com/www/articles/YTW_311_Main.jpg

Gretchen wakes up feeling different especially since Jimmy told her he doesn’t know if his life is his. She suddenly sees Jimmy looking through his stuff assessing whether it is worth keeping in his life or not. Surely, he’s not going to toss Gretchen by the wayside. She knows she is going to be judged and lets Jimmy write a pro and con list about her. Humorously we find out that she thinks all of the ink we get is from squids.

It’s the day of Shitstain, a client of Gretchen’s wedding. Really that name is so juvenile it is moderately humorous. Lindsay is going to divorce Paul and is happy she made him sign a prenup, unaware that she won’t get any of Paul’s money.  She is also upset because without a baby she also loses another in for his money.

Gretchen wants to see Jimmy’s list  but of course she won’t get to see it. Edgar needs to create five sketch ideas for his new boss and Dorothy is upset he is doing it at the wedding. Lindsay attempts to find a job and hits it off with a Fashionista. Gretchen works to fix the quarrel between Shitstain and his friends so the wedding will go off without a hitch.

Dorothy is upset that Edgar is doing so much work and that she isn’t going anywhere. Edgar goes off to talk shop with another comedian at the wedding. Gretchen tries to take Jimmy’s notebook and finds that he switched notebooks. Gretchen takes some power back and writes a list about Jimmy as well.

Shitstain’s wife tells his group leader Sam that they are going to have a baby in a year and he makes things worse by kissing her. For such a macho and independent man Sam shows off some true character.

Edgar is bouncing off ideas for his pot comedy with Brian Posehn.Dorothy breaks up the work and is quite a downer, Edgar doesn’t know what to do. Lindsay finally tells Paul that she had an abortion and is leaving him. Of course doing it in front of the woman you want a job from is not really a good idea. Lindsay really does try to make good decisions but she is so unaware of what her actions do to others.

Jimmy and Gretchen begin to read their lists to each other. Sam and his other band mate Zachary speak at their wedding and it turns out well enough. The 3 main couples all end up in bad terms and Gretchen and Jimmy drive off in separate cars. We see them both looking sad as they drive together yet separately to their house. Is this the end of the worst yet most amazing couple on the show?

This episode really was quite the explosive one. Many different truths came out or were really hinted at. I hope these characters are all able to work things out in the end. This show really is so good because it can be so real. Cannot wait to see how things come out in the next episode,’You knew it was a Snake’.

Arrow SN5 EP6 – So It Begins

Welcome back to your weekly recap of our favourite Star City vigilante, the Green Arrow, as he tries to save his city . Today’s episode is Episode 6 of Season 5, titled So It Begins.

– Flashback –

Anatoli sits with Oliver in a bar, trying to teach him how to make a bomb. It doesn’t go so well. Suddenly the bar is wrecked with gunfire, bottles explode, glass goes everywhere. Oliver tackles Anatoli to the ground, saving him. Anatoli explains it’s a declaration of war from Kovar. The Bratva then pose Oliver as a rich american buying property from Kovar in the hopes of bombing the building to the ground. Just when things are going well, Oliver and another Bratva are hit over the head knocking them out. When they awaken they’re tied to chairs and the other Bratva is killed by Kovar.

– Present –

Oliver and Diggle go on a secret mission to track Prometheus through a warehouse in Star City, with Felicity providing Overwatch. Prometheus leads them deep inside the warehouse, no sign of him of course, but he leaves Oliver a fiery message, ‘So it begins.’ Prometheus begins his killing spree by lodging throwing stars in seemingly random civilians. The local news picks up on the murders and causes panic in the city, claiming the Throwing Star killer is at large.

The rest of team arrow discovers that Oliver has been keeping Prometheus a secret, which angers them all. With not a lead to go on as to who Prometheus’ next target is, Felicity goes to the police station to try and talk to Billy about the evidence. When he gets called away, leaving the throwing star on his desk, she quickly steals it to do her own investigation.

At a busy market at night, the citizens go into a frenzied panic because they think Prometheus is there. Team Arrow swoops in to stop the frightened gun wielders from killing anyone and leads the civilians to safety. Thea discovers that Quentin never stopped drinking, finding a bottle of whiskey in his empty office. When he fails to pick up his phone yet again, she visits his house where she confronts him, telling him to go to an AA meeting before she leaves.

Thanks to a program Felicity created, they discover the victims Prometheus has been killing aren’t random at all. The pattern between all the deceased is Oliver’s list that he used when he first returned to Star City. When the rest of Team Arrow finds out about Oliver’s list they are angered even more, especially Evelyn who didn’t know about Oliver’s dark start. Using the pattern Felicity predicts six future victims, so the team splits up to cover each one.

Unfortunately for Evelyn, Prometheus chooses the target she’s protecting, a train driver. Prometheus and Evelyn battle it out and she manages to cut his arm. Just when Prometheus is about to deliver a throwing star into his victim, the Green Arrow swoops in and Prometheus vanishes. They discover that a bomb has been armed on the train and they have no choice but to abandon the train. Using a parachute the three of them escape. Oliver has a talk with Evelyn back at base, where she apologies for being angry at him. Meanwhile, Felicity goes to Billy’s work again to confess that she actually works for the Green Arrow. After being a bit angry, he fangirls over the Green Arrow —”Is his face completely scarred? Is that why he wears the mask?”

Felicity meets up with Oliver and tells him she discovered something about the throwing stars Prometheus has been using. All of the throwing stars are reused from the metal of Oliver’s arrows, meaning Prometheus could be an SCPD officer. Quentin is then shown waking up on his couch, a throwing star on the table in front of him and a bloody gash on his right forearm.

– Next week on Arrow –

I definitely did not expect Quentin Lance to be Prometheus. I wonder if Team Arrow can save him and recruit him into joining the team as a vigilante. What’re your thoughts? Comment below, or tweet me @SohoDoll. Until next time, “My name is Oliver Queen and I will save this city!”

Stan Against Evil: S1 Ep1 “Dig Me Up, Dig Me Down”

Fans of comedy-horror movies in the vein of Evil Dead (the original one, not the 2013 version), Army of Darkness, and pretty much anything with Bruce Campbell in it, are in for another cult treat with Stan Against Evil.

Created by Dana Gould (writer for The Simpsons and Family Guy) and scheduled for an 8-episode first season, the show premiered on October 31st, 2016.

Quickly drawing strong ratings on IFC (formerly called Independent Film Channel) Stan Against Evil stars John C. Mcginley as the show’s namesake. McGinley is best known for his role as Dr. Cox on Scrubs for 9 seasons. He also happens to be one of the most underrated character actors in the business.

The character of Stan is based on Gould’s father and was written to be an old man who’s just plain angry with the way the world has turned out and longs for the good old days. Luckily for Gould and us, McGinley has the acting chops to imbue the main character with the same macho, outdated attitude towards women and a bullet-quick sarcastic wit that the character needs. Basically, he’s Dr. Cox but a bit older, more ornery, and in a new setting. But you know what? The similarities are perfect.

The show is meant to be entertainment that takes you away from whatever your everyday troubles are. Not too much thinking is involved. But you MUST have suspension of disbelief as the special effects are just the right amount of over the top we’ve come to expect from this genre and the plot moves quickly through each 30-minute episode.

The best part, though, is the dialogue is extremely well written. Never serious. Almost believe-able. Always sarcastic. Always funny. And it flows as fast as the plot of each episode does.

Dig Me Up, Dig Me Down.

The series is set in Willard’s Mill, New Hampshire.

We open with the “perpetually disgruntled” Stan in a weird looking graveyard. He’s pissed. Then he see’s the new Sheriff tied to a stake. So he’s even more pissed. Then he’s attacked by an ugly zombie/witch.

Now he’s really freaking pissed.

That about sets the tone for the whole episode. Possibly the whole show.

Flashback to Stan’s wife’s funeral 6 days earlier. As Stan sits listening to the eulogy, he starts hallucinating, believing he’s seeing the same evil zombie/witch we saw in the last scene sitting across from him. For some reason, she starts laughing so Stan ends up grabbing the old lady and beating her up.

Seriously.

He goes WWE on her.

It’s awesome.

Cut to present day. The new Sheriff, Evie Barret (played by comedienne Janet Varney), arrives at the station and finds Stan is still there. From the outset, they don’t like each other.

It seems Stan has been sleeping at the Sheriff’s station since his wife died even though he’s retired. Finally, he gives up the office to Sheriff Barret and goes home to his now very quiet house, ready to deal with retirement and the loss of his wife.

It’s here that the suspense starts to build. He hears a sound upstairs and goes to investigate.

While Sheriff Barret begins to settle in, she meets the extremely creepy Deputy Drinkwater (played by Nate Mooney). She is beginning to realize that everyone in the town is a bit strange.

Drinkwater explains that due to a witch’s curse, every Sheriff of Willard’s Mill since the 1600s has been killed. But not just killed: they all died an “…early, violent, horrible death.” All of them except Stan.

BTW. Fun Fact: Willard’s Mill is close to where the Salem Witch Trials took place.

Still getting used to things back home, Stan decides to explore his wife’s private room. It’s been locked for years. Stan never went in there.

As he looks around the room, he finds some peculiar things. Weapons. Books of spells. Horrible, gory images on the walls. Sewing materials. Holiday decorations. You know, witchy-stuff.

He begins to look through the books and finds notes with pictures on how to fight demons and witches. Some of the weapons match the ones hung on the wall. Stan asks his daughter, Denise (Deborah Baker Jr), if she knew what his wife was doing up in the room?

Denise knew all along. It just turns out that Stan never paid any attention.

Things start to get weird.

Awhile later, Sheriff Barret is on the phone with her daughter when she gets a visit from the same strange old lady that Stan beat up at the funeral. As they chat, the strange lady starts asking about Sheriff Barret’s daughter. Naturally, the Sheriff begins to get suspicious when the strange lady suddenly morphs into her witch form. She threatens to continue the curse and kill Sheriff Barret unless Barret brings her Stan’s wife’s ‘Seeing Stone’.

In case you haven’t put two and two together, Stan’s wife was also a witch and was protecting Stan. That’s why he’s the only Sheriff of Willard’s Mill who was never murdered while on the job.

While that’s going on at the station, Stan’s at home trying to enjoy his first day of retirement by watching some TV. Regrettably, he’s not getting any reception. He climbs the roof to check the satellite dish and is startled by the Witch. He falls from the roof and as he’s laying on the ground, the new Sheriff walks up and tells him that she’s been attacked.

A hilarious exchange follows between the two as we mark the unofficial start of their abnormal partnership.

Meanwhile, the witch shows up at Sheriff Barret’s house claiming to be Barret’s daughter’s grandmother. The babysitter lets her in.

Stan has told Sheriff Barret he’ll take care of the witch. He now knows his wife was protecting him and that her power came from the necklace she always wore. It’s dusk as he heads to the graveyard to dig up his wife’s body and retrieve the necklace.

While there, the new Sheriff stops him. She wants to work with Stan to get rid of the Witch, but he doesn’t want to. So she threatens to kill him. Suddenly, he agrees.

He takes Sheriff Barret to his house and shows her his wife’s secret room. There, she finds a ledger documenting all of the witch killings. They also learn the witch is named Stella Stanas.

They decide to head back to Stan’s wife’s grave to finish digging her up. The Sheriff first tries to call her daughter’s sitter to let her know she’ll be late. There’s no answer so she rushes home to find the babysitter has been decapitated and her daughter is gone.

The babysitter’s head is still able to talk, though, and it tells the Sheriff what’s happened just before Witch Stanas appears and captures the Sheriff.

When Stan gets’s back to the graveyard he finds his wife has already been dug up.

At this point, we’ve now circled back to the beginning where Stan found Sheriff Barret tied to the stake about to be killed by Stanas.

Before Stanas can finish off Sheriff Barret, Stan smashes the witches head with the shovel.

He’s also still really pissed off.

After Stanas is dead, Stan and the Sheriff read his wife’s spell book to find out how to get rid of her for good. Using Stan’s trusty bag of stolen condiments he keeps on him at all times, they’re able to circle the Stanas’ body with salt. Of course, she escapes before they finish and makes a last ditch attempt to get to the Sheriff before Stan chops her to pieces while the Sheriff reads the spell that kills her soul.

Finally, Witch Stanas is gone but according to the ledger they still have over 170 other demons they’re going to have to deal with.

The Sheriff is worried, but Stan…he never panics. He’s just pissed off.

I can’t wait to see what happens next.

TV Daredevil Star LIKES Ben Affleck Daredevil Movie

daredevil

At a recent appearance at Wizard World Pittsburgh (an event attended by yours truly), Daredevil stars Charlie Cox and Elden Henson held a Q and A session. Cox and Henson revealed a lot about themselves and their opinions about the show. Henson was his usual jokey self, claiming he wish the show would feature Scar from the Lion King as a villain. Cox revealed a lot as well – He mentioned his desire to feature Bullseye as a villain on Daredevil (something that would displease Deborah Ann Woll and Elodie Yung), he wants to do a crossover with the Ninja Turtles and/or Buzz Lightyear; and he recently became a father. However, the news for today is Cox actually enjoyed the 2003 Daredevil movie with Ben Affleck.

ww-pic

To begin with, the man has a right to his opinion. I can personally admit to enjoying films such as The Lone Ranger and Batman Forever. Having said that, I can honestly say the 2003 Daredevil movie is not particularly good. To be fair, it was not a terrible movie. Ben Affleck and Michael Clark Duncan were well-cast as Daredevil and Kingpin respectively. Colin Ferrel was deliciously hammy as Bullseye. Some of the fight scenes were decent. Cox also discussed how much he liked the Spider-man movies from the same time. Comparing the two, he commented how the Spider-man films were jokey and didn’t take themselves to seriously. However, he complimented Daredevil for having the guts to go dark and take a serious approach to the material.

However, Charlie Cox had to be honest and admit the movie was not perfect. He called the movie “confused” and it is hard to argue with that. The movie is serious but has absurd moments such as the playground fight. According to some sources, the director’s cut is a superior film, with some of the plot holes explained. However, for all intents and purposes, it appears Charlie Cox does like the theatrical version. Either way, even if the movie is not very good, maybe in Cox’s mind, it was good enough.

During the Wizard World conference, Charlie Cox admitted to being a fan of the comics before he was cast on the show. So admittedly, there may have been a certain excitement for him over seeing one of his favorite characters finally make it to the big screen. The Tim Burton Batman movies have been under the gun since the release of the Nolan Batman films. For those of us who were there, it was our first exposure to the Caped Crusader. Michael Keaton’s portrayal was the first time the character had been portrayed in a serious light. So no matter how good the newer films, we’ll always have memories of our first time. On a personal level, I found that Green Lantern movie from a few years back pretty underwelming, but the thrill of seeing the Green Lantern in action AT ALL was one of the reasons I enjoyed it. Back in 2003, Charlie Cox may not have known he’d see a better Daredevil, he may not have known he’d be a better Daredevil. But there will always be that spark of magic from seeing one of his heroes come to life for the first time.

On a final note, here’s my picture with Charlie Cox… I’m the one in black.
