Doctor Who: The Fire Maker review: The William Hartnell years

firemaker1

Welcome back!

As we know, the Doctor and companions have found the big blue box, and so have the caver dudes.

zha-man-down

MAN DOWN!

The Cave people bring the wounded Zha back to the cave. The other cave dudes are shocked. Khal is claiming that he brought back Zha and the female, saving them. Plus he claims that Zha is the one to have killed the old woman. The Doctor is there, disproving Khal’s claims, first with the lack of blood on the rock/knife. Khal exclaims that the knife is broken, due to it not showing what it has done. The Doctor, being sly, explains that the knife is a good knife and better than the one that Khal owns. Well of course, Khal now has to show that his is the better knife, bringing it forth. And the Doctor takes the knife out of the hand of the proud caveman, showing all the evidence of blood on the weapon, from the killing of the old woman. He shows this to the other cave dudes. Now Khal explains why he killed the old lady, but the Doctor rallies the others against Khal, driving him out of the cave. Ian puts the idea in Zha’s head (who is up and ok at this point) that the pack is mightier than the one. But also, Ian gets the unwanted attention and is placed back in the prison/cave.

Zha and the lady caver are talking now. He is asking what had happened. She explains how they introduced themselves as “friend” and how they helped. Zha talks about how Ian had talked with him as well. Putting ideas in his head how the tribe is stronger as a whole. He is now determined to be a great leader, and get this fire.

Back in the dungeon, our heroes are attempting to make fire like good boys scouts. Placing twigs where needed and rubbing sticks together.

Outside the cave, Zha is making his way in.

He comes in find the companions making fire, where he asks what they are doing. They explain they are making fire. He asks, “Who is the leader?” They respond by gesturing to the Doctor. Zha explains that he feels they are from the other side of the mountain, and that they will be put to death if they do not show fire to Zha so he can save them from fate of death. The Doctor explains that they are making fire, for him. Zha is watching, though Ian states “everyone should be watching, so they all know how to make fire.”

goodboyscouts

(and the fire starts) *Inception noise* bwaaaaaa

Back with the other cavemen, they are arguing amongst themselves. One of the bigger men exclaims, “we have no meat, Zha is no leader!” The female, who has been at Zha’s side, is outraged and defends her partner.

Back in the dungeon/cave, another caveman enters the premises, and now there is about to be a battle.. oh the glorious 1960 fake battle scenes, you got to love the sound effects and dramatic flailing. The other caveman realizes there is fire, tries to grab it, and gets burned. (BURN!!) The battle between the two cavers continues… clubs and fists all around… close up of angry faces and scared companions… I must say this battle scene had me giggling. Mighty flips… kind of Wrestle Mania-like to tell you the truth. Zha has the intruder in a sleeper hold and … bites his ear??? (I didn’t know we had Tyson in this episode) After the intruder has fallen, Zha takes a giant rock and smashes his head (which they do not show because well, you didn’t show that kind of stuff on TV.)

ooohfire

ooooh fire

The cave people outside are hollering, Zha grabs a stick of fire and brings this to them… They all oooh and aaaah at the sight and now accept him as the leader. He announces that Khal is dead (this was the intruder, didn’t realize this until he said it was) and he then travels out to the forest to get meat. (hehehehe) 😉

The heroes back in the cave are questioning the female as to where the Zha man is. The female informs them that he is out hunting. They question their freedom explaining that they gave the fire as asked and now they want to go. But it seems they will not be able to leave. .

susanstick

the first Jose Jalapeno on a stick

Scenes switch and now it’s later. The Doctor and companions are cooking meat over fire, Zha is checking on them, making sure they are comfortable, in his own way. They explain they wish to be let go, but Zha wants to join tribes. He apparently does not understand what they want to do. Zha leaves, the heroes feel defeated. Susan stands up with a stick of fire and grabs a skull from the ground. She then places this on the burning stick. “Look,” she exclaims, “it almost looks like it’s alive.” This gives Ian an idea… To fake their death…

Back in other part of the cave, the female is cooking her meat….

She then wonders in to the dungeon… and finds the burning skulls, she trips out screaming… and the other cavepeeps come to see… they too are scared… this gives the heroes their chance to escape… they run out to the forest….

Suddenly one of the sticks with skull falls over, alerting the Zha that this was a trick. He yells to them, “We will run to the night to find them with the fire sticks”… The heroes are running for their life… and the numbskull cavers are not far behind them…. (RUN HEROES RUN!!!)

we-made-it

They make it to the TARDIS, close the doors.. the Doctor runs to the panel and gets the ol’ girl up and running., The cavemen outside, watch in disbelief as the TARDIS disappears.

Inside, the crewmembers are tired and dirty. Ian wants to be taken back home but the Doctor states that the TARDIS is not working right… He is unable to go back to the right time. They land… unsure of where or when they are… Doctor is reading the panel, checking the radiation… which is in the danger zone… and the show ends….

Russo Brothers talks out about lack of Hulk, Fury, and death of Captain America

*spoilers*

Ok, if you follow the comics, like a lot of us do, then you probably noticed that the Civil War movie was missing some key ingredients. One, Hulk and Thor seemed to be MIA, along with Fury, and two… no one died….

shocked-face

(Im as shocked as you Cap)

In the comics, when it comes to the Civil War, the Cap is not supposed to come out alive, yet in the movie, he was perfectly fine and had it out later with a grueling, one on one battle with Iron Man. Yet according to Russo brothers, they felt that the dynamics weren’t needed to make the moviegoers feel the pain.

Joe Russo states: “We talked about several characters dying at the end of the movie, and we thought that it would undercut what is really the rich tension of the movie, which is Kramer vs Kramer. It’s about a divorce. If somebody dies, it would create empathy, which would change and allow for repair, and we didn’t want to do that.”

Anthony Russo: “The tragedy is the family falls apart. Not that the family falls apart and someone dies. The plan to split the Avengers apart instead of outright killing a major character makes sense, and it’s deftly accomplished within the film”

Ok, so this explains the lack of death in the movie, and if you have read the comics, then you do know that *spoilers* when they go up against the gauntlet, everyone is supposed to die…. And then they all come back to life… because this is comics, and everyone comes back to the living. We will see where they take this for Infinity War movie. Yet this does not tell us where the Thor, Hulk and Fury ran off to.

Well if you own the Captain America: Civil War disc, there is a video as to where Thor was during the battle…… And it’s pretty silly. Apparently, he moved in with a guy named Daryl? Check out the video below— (Thor even meets up with Bruce, having a convo about his pants lol)

And for the Fury himself, the writers, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, felt that he didn’t need to be in the movie. They state, “We didn’t want him taking one side or the other, because that’s not his place in the universe. And then we didn’t want another ‘is he still with the government? Is he opposed to the government but supporting the government?’ It got to be the potential for a lot more polemic discussion that the movie did not have room for.” They continued on with “he’s the guy who put it together…sort of parent figure…”

hulksad

Ok so this makes sense. I mean to me, not having him there was a good move along with Thor being MIA, since Thor is from a different planet and his views may not be needed here… but no Hulk? I think a battle with supersized Ant Man would have been fantastic to see… but oh well, we shall see what the next Civil War movie has in store right.

So there you have it, answers to some of the questions we had for the new movie and hopefully some ideas as to what’s in store for future movies. ^_^

28th October to be ‘Stan Lee Day’

Excelsior, True Believers! Los Angeles has declared 28th October to be Stan Lee Day!

The legendary face of Marvel comics has been given a dedicated day in his honour as thanks for his contribution to LA’s entertainment industry. The 93-year-old comics giant originally hails from New York, but moved to the City of Angels about 30 years ago, taking it as an adoptive home.

In addition to this, Lee‘s annual convention (Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo) has been renamed Stan Lee’s Los Angeles Comic Con.This will be the sixth year for the convention, which is to be held 28th-30th October (kicking off, obviously, on Stan Lee Day) The con will celebrate all things pop culture related, including films, comics, video games, sci-fi and fantasy.

According to CBS Local, Lee said of the convention, “we want to have the most glamorous and sought-after guests possible in the entertainment field, because after all, Los Angeles to me is the home of entertainment — this is where it all starts.”

Happy Stan Lee Day, everyone!

Hayley Atwell wants an Agent Carter Movie

Hayley Atwell as Agent Carter

Fans all over the globe have kept their hopes high and petitions ever-growing, in the goal of bringing Agent Carter back. Despite not being picked up for its third season, there is still hope. Especially where Hayley Atwell is involved. Beloved amongst the show’s supporters and the Marvel universe alike, Hayley Atwell is adamant that a chance will arise for Marvel to do some sort of “special” with Peggy’s long life, which is bound to be filled to the brim with adventure.

“I hound [Marvel Studios’ Louis] D’Esposito on a regular basis, saying, ‘Give me a movie!’ I think the great thing about Peggy is, we know from [Captain America: The] Winter Soldier that she lives a long life, so she can come back. I’m banking on, when I’m in my fifties, I’m like, ‘This is the time. Let’s see what Peggy’s up to in this decade.’ It’s still a much-loved show for the people involved in the making of it, and we know that for the fans, it has a special place in their hearts. I would be very happy to go back to her if she became available. I don’t feel like I’ve said goodbye to her. She does still seem to live on a lot for the fans. And Marvel is still such a big part of my career, especially my professional family, that I would absolutely not rule out the idea of going back to Peggy at some point, seeing her in other avenues. I love her, and I hope that she has a life elsewhere at another time. “

If you’ve missed Agent Carter: the two seasons are available for streaming on ABC or purchasable on iTunes, amongst other options.

If you’re wondering what led to the show Agent Carter, you may be surprised to know it was the Agent Carter film that was released in 2013 on the home media release of Iron Man 3. It’s basically a follow-up and spin-off of Captain America: The First Avenger. Due to it’s success Marvel decided to start ABC’s Agent Carter.

What are your thoughts? Do you want Hayley Atwell on the big screen? Or would you prefer she reprised her weekly Agent Carter on ABC? Comment below or tweet me @SohoDoll. And as always, “I know my value. Anyone else’s opinion doesn’t really matter.” – Peggy Carter

Luke Cage SN1 EP01- ‘Moment of Truth’

A steady but engrossing premiere introduced us to the world of Luke Cage.

luke-cage-marvel_0

*Full Spoilers Ahead*

Wasn’t that something? After all the films and TV shows that have come before it, you could be forgiven for wondering just how Marvel was going to bring us yet another comic book property that still felt fresh and exciting. Well Luke Cage succeeds in being both of those things in a multitude of different ways, once again proving the genius of Marvel Studios.

The first thing that struck me about Luke Cage is how tonally different it feels to Marvel’s other Netflix shows. Daredevil and Jessica Jones are famous for the darkness that shrouds each episode, but whilst Luke Cage maintains that same level of gritty realism, the overall tone is somewhat brighter. This is immediately obvious, and I do mean immediately, as a sense of warmth is portrayed even in the opening credits. The warm yellow colours are in stark contrast to the dark reds of Daredevil and the cold purples of Jessica Jones, and this brighter atmosphere carries across to the opening scene. As the characters jovially chat about (forgive my ignorance) either Basketball or Baseball (maybe neither), a strong sense of fellowship and community is portrayed within their actions. The naturalistic nature of their conversation allows the audience to relate to them in ways that haven’t been entirely possible with the other Netflix shows.

The tone does darken as the episode goes on, but the show never loses the feeling of hope and togetherness. This is largely thanks to protagonist Cage. As powerful as the opening scene was for depicting tone, it also did a wonderful job of reintroducing us to Luke. Showrunner Cheo Coker rightly bypasses catching us up with what Luke’s been up to since Jessica Jones, instead giving us a man with a whole new set of problems. Cage struck an imposing but also intriguing figure throughout the opening scene. He is clearly a man trying to live a normal life, and his stuttered and ultimately unsuccessful attempts to engage in conversation with the barbershop folks reflect this. He may have amazing abilities, but at the end of the day is still a man struggling through life like the rest of us, and this was continuously emphasised throughout the episode.

Luke’s struggles with money and women put him in stark contrast with Cottonmouth. Both have power, so whilst Cottonmouth uses his to gain influence and grant himself luxuries, Luke shies away from his due to the damage it has caused, despite what he could gain from it. It’s the kind of hero-villain relationship that is used often, them being polar opposites of one another, but tweaked just enough so that it’s still exciting. What is that change? Well the fact that Cottonmouth isn’t at the top right now. He’s not really the man in charge. That’s a wrinkle personified by the character of Shades. It’s clear he’ll play a big part in Luke’s backstory, but as soon as Cottonmouth screws up he is subsequently always beside him. His story will be one of increasing his power then. Of becoming King. Having villains fight one another was glimpsed only briefly in Daredevil Season 2, so it once again pushes Luke Cage into fresh new territory.

This episode was about introducing us to Luke Cage’s world, so as such we were introduced to a lot of characters. Two standouts were Misty Knight and Mariah Dillard. Both are based upon pre-existing comic book characters, and both play a pivotal role in Luke’s story. Misty’s wisecracking badass detective persona was balanced by her flaws, and this is again what makes characters so great. Whilst on the job she has sex with Luke, a moment that looks set to cause problems going forward, but it is also a moment that will serve to keep the character grounded. Similarly, councilwoman Mariah Dillard is mixed up in illegal business and could easily see her power crumble. Adding these flaws to characters prevents them from being larger than life, they don’t have to be perfect, and it causes both victories and failures on their part to be all the more satisfying for the audience.

It would be remiss of me not to mention the place Luke Cage holds as a form of media in the current climate, where racial tensions are increasingly tested every day. I’m not a man of colour, so I won’t pretend to fully understand what people who are have to endure day to day, however I do understand the value Luke Cage has and the effect it could have on audiences. As a Marvel property Luke Cage has an enormous outreach, and the ability to both celebrate black culture and help a mainstream audience learn and understand the problems faced by all people of colour. The show paid reference to events and movements occurring in real life and this shouldn’t be shied away from. Luke Cage is the kind of show people need right now, and with any luck it will get people thinking about what’s going on in the world.

Of course there was plenty to see in this episode, so other highlights include:

  • How great was the music? There were some standout pieces in there. I know the score is always used to emphasise the events onscreen, but the way it was used here just seemed more noticeable somehow.

  • I didn’t catch his name but I liked the Barber. He’s obviously intended as a father figure to Luke, so that has me worried that he won’t make it to the end of the season, but the joyous outlook he has on life was refreshing, especially in contrast to Luke’s brooding.

  • What do you reckon is gonna happen to the barbershop though? Given the history of these Netflix shows it doesn’t have long left to stand.

  • References to ‘The Incident’ here. How long before Tony Stark just swoops down and says “Hi”. Please let that happen.

  • There were some interesting flashes of Luke’s past here that will no doubt be explored later in the season, but it certainly signals a rich and interesting backstory, and carries on the tradition of the Netflix heroes being haunted by their past.

  • The scene with Cottonmouth beating that guy to death was brutal, and certainly conveyed how unhinged his thirst for power is making him, though I doubt anything will ever top the car scene from Daredevil.

  • Though he got his hands dirty this episode, both Cottonmouth and Mariah seem like the smart kind of villains, which is always enjoyable. Verdict’s still out on Shades though, who looks like he could go either way.

  • I wouldn’t have minded if we weren’t given a full display of Luke’s power in the first episode, but I think it was necessary, especially to entice any new viewers. The whole scene was great as Luke overpowered the entire gang with a calm nonchalance, and the last standing member evoked a similarly fun scene from Iron Man 3.

So this was a stellar opening episode for Luke Cage, as he proved to be just the kind of hero we need right now. With a refreshing tone that clearly differentiates the show from its Netflix fellows, and a superb cast that promise to deliver an excellent story, it’s clear we’re in for a real treat with this one. The slow burn was necessary to establish this world and its characters, as it feels we barely scratched the surface of what’s to come, and I am very excited for that indeed.

The Expanse: S1 Ep 8 Salvage

Two worlds of The Expanse universe finally collide in the eighth episode of SyFy’s popular TV series. Finally the build up is over!

I’m changing things up a bit for this episode’s synopsis. Normally, I divide the plots and sub-plots out by location but for this episode, I’ll tell the story from character experience. This is the most important episode to date and the climax of the season.

There are few subplot points that take place on Tycho Station and Earth, but the total screen time for both of those take up about 2 minutes of the entire episode. The majority of this episode deals with the immediate events leading up to the climax.

holden-miller-final

First. Miller.

Miller is on his way to Eros. He meets another passenger who can see that it’s Miller’s first time traveling. The other passenger is Mormon and is preparing for the Nauvoo voyage into space. Their conversation causes Miller to wonder just what the hell he’s doing.

When he finally arrives on Eros, Miller heads straight for the docks where the Anubis shuttle is. He has a tough time with the dock master, but he finds the shuttle is registered to Lionel Polanski just as security gets to the room and arrests him for being tough during his tough time.

His friend from Eros has him released. He takes Miller for a tour of Eros Station.

As they sit down to a meal, Miller tells what he’s really on Eros for. He asks his friend to help him locate Julie Mao. His friend is reluctant, but finally shows Miller proof that Julie Mao is on Eros Station. Seems she’s registered at a seedy hotel under the name Lionel Polanski.

Miller immediately leaves to go find her.

Next. Holden & Crew.

Holden and crew come across an abandoned ship on an asteroid. It turns out to be a stealth ship like the ones that attacked the Canterbury and the Donnager.

The ship is well hidden in a crevice of the asteroid but they’re able to dock and board.

It’s eerily quiet. At first, it appears nothing is out of the ordinary. As they go deeper, they start seeing signs of a struggle. The scene tension builds until they finally come across the suit of a Belter, however, they know the ship is not from the Belt. They realize this is the ship that attacked the Canterbury.

As they search inside and outside of the ship they find clues as to what happened. Amos discovers a locked safe on the flight deck. They decide to restore power to provide light.

When Holden and Naomi get to the power reactor they discover a few curious things. Then Holden sees there is some sort of living creature that has nested or attached itself to the ship’s reactor.

We also see a mysterious blue light creeping along the halls of the ship.

Holden and Naomi go in for a closer look at the alien creature.

core-reactor-alien

Amos finds the ship’s name: The Anubis. It’s the ship Julie Mao was on.

Just then, the alien begins to come alive. Naomi quickly surmises it’s absorbing energy from the reactor and shuts it down.

Everyone gets off the Anubis as fast as possible.

Back onboard the Rocinante, Kenzo is begging Holden to let him go with them to Eros. Holden agrees if the spy uses his contacts to help Holden and crew find Lionel Polanski.

Holden decides to destroy the abandoned ship based on what they found aboard. They torpedo it as they speed towards Eros.

Finally. They Meet…And Things Get Really Good

While Miller is on his way to the hotel to find Julie Mao, Holden and crew have also docked on Eros Station. Their stowaway, Kenzo, takes them to the seedy hotel where Lionel Polanski is registered. Something is fishy, but Amos can’t quite put his finger on it.

kenzo-spy

Kenzo

As Holden talks to the Concierge, random people are slowly flowing into the lobby. As Holden leaves to go to the room to finally meet Polanski, Kenzo realizes what is going on and runs. Amos pulls a gun to stop him and then all hell breaks loose. It turns out the rest of the people in the lobby were actually the hit squad sent by U.N. Undersecretary Errinwright back in Episode 7.

Holden and crew are pinned down. Just as things are about to get really bad, Miller shows up.

Finally, Holden and Miller come face to face.

They get out of the situation and begin to figure out what’s going on.

Right now, no one knows that Lionel Polanski is the pseudonym that Julie Mao goes by. They get to the hotel room. Miller is asking for Julie. Holden and crew don’t know that Polanski and Mao are the same person.

Finally, in the bathroom, they find Julie Mao’s body. It’s crystalized. It’s the same crystalline gunk they found on the stealth ship and it’s all over the room and her naked, dead body.

American Horror Story: Roanoke “Chapter 3”

Hi AHS fans. I’m in for the lovely Presh this week, as she’s not feeling so good. Wishing you a speedy recovery girl!

Last week we left the Miller clan in a shocking cliffhanger – Lee‘s daughter Flora was missing and a yellow hoodie belonging to the little girl was hanging up in a tree about a hundred metres above their heads…

Roanoke Chapter 3

The police (i.e. the local cynics) recover Flora’s distinctive hoodie from the high tree. The family launch a search party for the little girl throughout the woods, however Lee explains she was not hopeful, because of her experience as a cop. In her interview, she talks us through the timescale milestones when a child is missing, and how the likelihood of finding the child diminishes as time goes on. Pretty quickly into the search, Lee finds something, which is revealed to be Flora’s doll, which has been dismembered and the head replaced with the head of a dead pig. The weird display is also covered in blood. (This whole episode is full of solid gold Angela Bassett performance – she’s brilliant!)

The Millers go further into the woods, and find a creepy farm, known to be the residence of the hillbilly weirdos, the Polks. There is another creepy offering on the ground – this time though it’s a dismembered pig with Flora’s doll’s head. They look around the house, and the place looks deserted. There’s flies buzzing about everywhere and rotting animal bits in the fridge. It’s pretty gross! They go out to the barn and find some dirty children suckling on a pig.

rsz_american-horror-story-roanoke-kids-pig

The Polk children – cleaned up and detached from the pig

The Polk children are at the hospital, having been cleaned up, and are being questioned. The police can’t get any sense out of them and they are shouting something unintelligible. Mason turns up and loses the plot with Lee, Matt and Shelby, who are anxiously waiting for news of Flora. Back at the creepy house, Mason attacks Lee and accuses her of hiding Flora to keep her from him. Shelby defends her sister in law, but Mason insists he will tell the police about Lee’s kidnapping indiscretion from  last week’s episode. Mason leaves and the family try to rest, however Matt is woken by a call in the middle of the night. The police have found a body. It has been burned beyond recognition and is strung up on one of the Blair Witch style scaffolds – it looks far to big to be Flora! Lee is handed a ring taken from the body, and she identifies it as Mason. Matt and Shelby check the security cameras, and realise that Lee left the house 15 minutes after Mason and returned four hours later. She has no alibi for the time of the murder. Lee walks in on their discussion and is angry that Shelby doesn’t trust her. They are interrupted by the arrival of a strange man called Cricket Marlow (Leslie Jordan). He’s a psychic investigator who has been sent by the spirits to help find Flora – because of course he is! He walks through the house and locates the area where Flora was hiding last week, opening the little cupboards and finding a bonnet. He also name-checks ghost buddy Priscilla, and explains that Flora is not dead, but hiding with her friend.

Cricket Marlow – Paranormal PI

Cricket sets up a seance to call Priscilla, but instead gets The Butcher. She chops their candle in half and smashes all the windows. She tells Cricket that she doesn’t have the child, and if she did she would have killed and eaten her. (Also, we get another awesome accent from Kathy Bates – it’s as good as the Freak Show one!) Cricket shouts ‘CROATOAN!’ which is the word that the Polk kids were shouting at the farm. Cricket says he can take the Millers to Flora… for $25,000. Matt is angry and accuses Cricket of being a con man. Lee takes the far more reasonable action of holding Cricket at gun point! Matt talks her down, and throws the psychic out, but Cricket tells them he will be invited back. He whispers something to Lee then leaves.

This is where the episode breaks slightly from the convention – we hear the voice of the interviewer (Cheyenne Jackson? Possibly!) asking Lee about Emily. Lee is shaken and asks for the camera to be switched off and we see candid footage of her sorting herself out. Lee reveals that she had another daughter when she was much younger and she went missing too. What?!? Lee left the 4-year-old Emily in the car when she went to run errands and she went missing.

Lee is freaking out!

Lee goes back to see Cricket and pays the fee, but Cricket can’t take her to Flora just yet. He explains that the Butcher is part of the lost colony of Roanoke, which Lee calls bullshit on, as Roanoke is miles away. Through flashback, Cricket explains that the Butcher – real name Thomasine White – was the wife of the leader of the colony. He went off on a supply run, leaving his wife in charge. The men of the colony don’t like being bossed around by a woman, so they revolt and put a spiky iron mask on her an leave her to die in the woods. The final betrayal for her is that her son Ambrose (Wes Bentley) locks the mask (although he looks really unhappy about doing it – maybe it will save him later!) After a few days in the woods, Thomasine is dying, and is attacked by something in the shadows. She is rescued by the Horned Woman, who offers her a still beating heart, which Thomasine eats – naturally. The delicious raw heart gives her new strength and she returns to the colony and delivers a cleaver to the head to all who betrayed her – with the exception of Ambrose, who is on a last warning. She then decides to move the colony a few miles in land – right to the spot where the Millers currently live!

Cricket and the Millers (which, incidentally, would be a very cool band name) head out to the woods to bargain with the Butcher for their lives. Cricket asks her to get Priscilla to return Flora in return for them leaving. Shelby is shocked to learn that Matt has agreed that, in addition to this, they will also burn down their home to ensure no one else lives there. Matt is conspicuous in his absence so Shelby goes looking for him. Luckily, Matt is safe! He just went off to get coffees for everyone because they were looking tired. Matt is a hero! Just kidding… Matt is in a trance, having sexy times with the Horned Woman next to a dead pig, being watched by two horny hillbillies. Later, Matt returns home with no memory of what has happened. Shelby is understandably miffed, and calls him out on it – Cuba Gooding JR pulls out his finest OJ ‘I didn’t do it!’ acting. They are interrupted by Lee getting arrested – presumably the work of an angry Shelby…

Matt was as shocked as anyone about the events!

That’s it for another week. Hopefully Presh will be back in action for episode 4, but if not, I’ll join you again for the crazy world of Roanoke! Chapter 4 will air Wednesday 5th October 2016 10pm (US) on FX.

“POTTER! Get Me Pictures Of Spider-Man!” – Daniel Radcliffe Wanted To Be Spider-Man

spider-potter

Spider-Potter, Spider-Potter

Does whatever a Spider-Potter does

Casts a web, from his wand

No it’s not that one dangling down there

Look out!

Here comes the Spider-Potter.

This would likely be the theme to Daniel Radcliffe’s Spider-Man, as he recently revealed to Metro that he would have liked to have played Spider-Man. ‘I would’ve been a good Spider-Man but the boat has sailed on that and I’m very happy to watch Tom Holland do it. He’s fantastic,’ he told the online newspaper, before adding ‘I love superhero movies’.

Of course, Daniel Radcliffe is most famous for playing Harry Potter  in the Harry Potter series. When asked about whether he’d join another franchise, he said ‘I’m not sure if I’d sign up for something that was another seven or eight films or ten years, but a shorter franchise, yeah,’

He also spoke to Digital Spy of his desire to join Game of Thrones (‘If they want to just bring me in and f**king kill me, I would be so happy to do that,’) and the Disney character he would most like to play (‘I would have a go at either Panic or Pain, the two little demons that run around Hades [in Hercules],’).

Whilst we won’t be seeing Spider-Potter on the big screen anytime soon, here’s hoping we can see The Potter Torch instead…providing Marvel Studios claim the rights back for Fantastic Four.

Spider-Man: Homecoming starring Tom Holland as the legendary web-slinger will be swinging into cinemas 7th July 2017. You can see Daniel Radcliffe ride a farting corpse in his latest film Swiss Army Man from today (Friday 30th September).

The ‘Survivor: Millennials Vs Gen-X’ Review – “Love Goggles”

Salty“. Yep … That’s pretty much the best way to describe how I’m feeling right now. Trust Gamer Legend Mari to appropriately sum up the dying cries of Millennial fans everywhere.

Hyperbolic? Maybe but in the little time she had on-screen, Mari was turning into Narration-Gold.

Not to snipe the ending to this review. But given that Paul’sheart attack‘ teased last week was a fake-out. Let’s focus on the dark horse of the pre-season. Michelle.

For a girl I had written off as a member of the ‘cool kids‘ alliance. Michelle has her ducks laid out and is sniping from behind. Not a so-called member of the Triforce, she is however a trusted ear for both Jay and Figgy. Two members of the team that seemingly are connected through Bro-Taylor than anything else.

Should Michelle look to go far, she better beat the Snowboarding instructor to the punch, and snuff his torch before he wises up.

I think she has awhile.

When it comes time though it should be easy enough given her back-up alliance of Will and Hannah. The later who was literally convinced to vote for her friend at Tribal Council by Michelle.

Maybe that Rat-Tail is a Jedi Braid after all.

Not to leave the Gen-Xers out in the cold. The Golden Oldies had some tricks up their sleeves, especially given the unlikely partnership of narcotic David and Model Ken.

Or the Stephen & JT of Fiji.

Oh David. Have I mentioned my love for David? Perhaps but if my heart bleeds for the departure of Mari at least knowing David has an Idol in his back-pocket gives me some sense of security. For the time being at least.

This was a great episode for the other dark horse Ken. Considering he was on the oust alongside CeCe and First-Boot Rachel in the Premiere episode. It was nice to see his take on  the dominate Paul Alliance, and it was shockingly empathetic.

If last years Winner Michelle Fitzgerald’s game taught us anything, is that the Social Game in Survivor should not be underestimated. Yes strategic moves gets me in the naughty spots but seeing Ken relate to David on a human level, relating to the days that he himself was an outsider, was heart warming. But better still should pay-off for the Model in the long run. I mean – not for nothing – David trusted Ken enough to show him his Hidden Immunity Idol. A move in Survivor that more often than not solidifies an Alliance to the bitter end.

survivor-millennials-vs-gen-x

I’ve got to be honest. Hearing Jeff Probst during the pre-season hype described how the Idols this year were “Hidden in Nature” and could “Look like a Shell“, I was out on the idea. But I have to say, I think Probst buried the lead with this one.

When David spotted that Coconut with a simple painted logo on it – without any clue – it was elegant in its simplicity. Sure we knew that David was looking for the idol but when he spotted that Coconut and cracked it open. It could have been just a clue for all we knew.

Dare I say it. Have the Survivor Producers made the search for the Hidden Immunity Idol fun again?
