Pikapool: A New Species?

None other than mister Deadpool himself, Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool, The Proposal),  shared below picture of Pikapool, a mixture of Pikachu and Deadpool, via his social media accounts. Is it a new species or are we just wishful thinking? I for one like it very much.

Ryan Reynolds is known to share cool stuff especially anything related to Deadpool. Which makes me wonder who the biggest fan of the character is; Ryan Reynolds or us? But that is another discussion.

Either way check out his Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/VancityReynolds/?fref=ts#) and/or Twitter (https://twitter.com/VancityReynolds) account for more goodies and snide remarks that are so Deadpool worthy. I honestly don’t know where Ryan Reynolds ends and Deadpool begins or vice versa but his remarks are so on the spot.

American Horror Story: Roanoke “Chapter 2”

ahs-13

The Millers starting to learn a little more about their home’s bloody past and Matt is now experiencing weird happenings like Shelby . Last week we left Shelby just as she had run into a scalped man in the creepy arse forest, so we pick up immediately where we left off in the creepy forest…

Roanoke, Chapter 2

Just when one thought Shelby couldn’t possibly encounter anymore horror, she stumbles upon The Butcher (Kathy Bates) and her village roasting the the scalped man that we seen Shelby runs into in the forest earlier, The Butcher has accused him of desertion and theft and are now purifying him by nailing a pigs tail to his arse and stuffing his head, into a pigs head and then roasting him to medium – well. The Butcher and her sidekick The Horned Woman (Lady Gaga), a woman with an antler-horned headpiece spots Shelby and gives chase, they chase her to the road where she is nearly cleaned up by her sister-in-law Lee. So am I right in assuming that the Butcher and her villages are possibly  the lost colony or  are the descendants of the lost colony of Roanoke.

tumblr_odvvcfoddq1rv6sroo1_540

The Miller’s are still reeling from the latest round of terror, as Shelby is looked over  and tested for hallucinogens at the hospital, you can’t really blame them for drug testing her given the latest story of human sacrifice, but her drug test comes back negative for hallucinogens, however, the officers find no evidence of Shelby’s story. The following morning Shelby tells Matt that’s she believes that the mountain hillbillies have created this elaborate hoax to scare them so the sell up and leave, but she and Matt decide that they will not be driven away from their home that easily.

Lee ex-husband Mason (Charles Whitfield) brings their daughter Flora (Saniyya Sidney) to the house for a visit and, Lee obviously hasn’t told Mason about the goings on in the are creepy arse house, otherwise, you would think the man would have enough sense to keep the child away! Flora finds a new friend in Priscilla (Estelle Hermansen), my evil cat is called Priscilla so I have the feeling she will be just as evil and my cat, Flora tells her mother that Priscilla offered to make her a bonnet if the family will help make “all the blood” stop. Not long after Lee hears a crash and investigates, she finds a little girl’s dirty white bonnet amid a broken vase….. An offering for “all the blood” to stop or is she taunting them?

ahs-17

Shelby thinks Lee bringing Flora to the house is asking for trouble, Later on, Shelby is woken by the sound of squealing pig outside, her and Matt head into the woods (Why People Why!) however they become separated from each other, it dark and the become disoriented. Shelby stumbles upon the sacrificial fire, Matt eventually finds her and the are fronted with someone’s roast dinner hanging on a wooden effigy, which Matt doesn’t  hesitate to destroy. Matt sends the Police to the site, they put a bulletin out for the Hillbillies, Ishmael Polk (Grady Richmond) and his sons as well as put a 24hr protective detail oné the Millers. Perhaps I have it all wrong, and the Hillbillies are actually the descendants of the lost colony, not The Butcher and her villagers?

Matt receives a phone call int the wee hours of the morning and goes downstairs to answer it. When he lifts the receiver, the voice on the other end says “Please, they’re hurting me”, when he looks done he realises that the phone was unplugged from the wall. As he turns around he sees two nurses who taunt the old women before executing her with a shot to the head for refusing to take the poison-laced medicine. The wall is already covered in blood, but the still thinks it needs a little more decorating so they spray paint it with an “M”,  the sadistic nurse’s laugh… “M” is for “Margaret“(Irene Roseen).

screen20shot202016-09-2120at207-42-3020pm

Mason arrives to pick Flora but neither of them can find her,  she was playing “Hide and seek” inside a small cupboard under the stairs with Priscilla, Flora offered the Priscilla her doll in exchange for not killing the family, however now the deal is off and they will kill Flora last, Mason grabs Flora and bundled her into the car, the guy couldn’t leave fast enough. With Flora being ripped from her mother and most likely will not see her again, has made Lee go off the sober tracks and she writes herself off. Shelby calls Matt to confirm that there is actually a woman outside the window, and what do they do….. They go looking for her and again, have they not learned from the last time they went looking. They track the woman to a trap door which leads to a cellar, meanwhile the sadistic nurses what over Lee.

img_2003-1

Shelby and Matt look around the cellar and find that it actually not a cellar someone was living in there, they find a VHS camera with an intact tape. The  man on the tape is Elias Cunningham (Denis O’Hare) and the tape is from 11-10-1997, he describes the same malevolent forces pursuing him as Matt and Shelby. He was studying the nurses, Miranda (Maya Berko) and Bridget Jane (Kristen Rakes) who killed their retirement home patients purely based on the first letter of the victims’ names, spelling the unfinished word “Murder”. Previous tenants have experienced the unfinished word constantly reappearing despite painting and wallpapering the wall. Matt starts removing the wallpaper from the kitchen where it was written and sure enough the word was lying behind the wallpaper.

Matt and Shelby call the bank wanting a refund for their investment property, however, the bank refuses and explains to them that the auction of the property has absolved the bank of responsibility. Lee arrives with Flora and is now in violation the custody agreement, Flora sees her friend calling her into the woods, but when they search for Flora they only find her hoodie at the top of a tree which is at,least a hundred feet over their heads.

Melissa Rosenberg Suggests Jessica Jones Will Not Be ‘Fixed’

Jessica Jones will be back on our screens for a second season in 2018, after the release of Luke Cage in a couple of weeks, and Iron Fist and The Defenders in 2017. Even though there’s been a long break between seasons, showrunner Melissa Rosenberg has already started getting the show written and finalised. In fact, season 2 is already half written. Makes me think Rosenberg was never one to leave her homework until last thing on a Sunday night….

In an interview with Esquire magazine, Rosenberg explained that Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) would not be magically “cured” following the climax of series 1. “People don’t just heal, you don’t go through that just to say, ‘Oh, he got arrested, he’s in jail, I’m OK now.’ That trauma is a huge part of who she is now.” This is a huge relief to fans. Jessica Jones has become an important part of the media landscape, particularly for women. Jessica had lots of issues going on before she met Kilgrave (David Tennant), and even though Kilgrave is now out of the picture her remaining issues need to be addressed and worked through.

Rosenberg also said that she’d learned a lot about this type of character development through working on Dexter. “With Dexter, the moment he felt guilt or accepted that he was ‘bad,’ the show’s over. He’s no longer a sociopath. The equivalent for us would be if Jessica somehow recovered from the damage that had been done to her.” A Jessica that resembled Kimmy Schmidt might not sit well with the tone of the show!

img_1884

The series will arrive after The Defenders, and although Melissa Rosenberg is not on the team leading that show, she’s aware of what’s going on so that she can seamlessly link the events in with season 2. Rumour has is that Luke Cage will take a back seat and Kilgrave is gone, so the friendship between Jessica and Trish (Rachael Taylor) will take more of a leading role for the show’s second outing. She did, however, play down the ‘shipping’ chat that has surrounded the two characters. “People would love that. I sometimes think there’s sort of a prurient interest in that, like, can’t women just be friends? I feel like for me that’s what is unique about the relationship, that they are such intimate friends, and I think they don’t have to become lovers—that being said, one never knows.”

Jessica Jones season 2 as yet has no release date. Marvel’s Luke Cage lands on Netflix 30th September.

‘One Is Most Amused…’ – Victoria Will Return For A Second Series

all_hail_jenna_coleman_in_brand_new_trailer_for_victoria

ITV have today announced that the popular period drama Victoria will return for a second series. Victoria stars Jenna Coleman (Doctor Who) as Queen Victoria and follows her early life from taking the throne at only eighteen years’ of age. Also starring in the series are Tommy Knight (The Sarah Jane Adventures) as BrodieEve Myles (Torchwood) as Mrs Jenkins, Rufus Sewell (Gods of Egypt)  as Lord Melbourne, Catherine Flemming (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’s  animatronic model designer) as the Queen’s mother the Duchess of Kent and Tom Hughes (Derek) as her husband Prince Albert. The series is written by Daisy Goodwin (Producer of The Apprentice UK), who will return as screenwriter for Series 2.

The show has been doing extremely well in the ratings, consistently beating BBC1’s Poldark in the ratings and averaging around 7.7 million viewers (29.7% viewing share), so it is no surprise that ITV have decided to recommission it. It is currently standing as ITV’s top-rated drama of the year.

Kevin Lygo, ITV’s Director of Television said of the renewal “Mammoth and Daisy Goodwin have brought the characters so vividly to life in this series, and we’re thrilled with the reception for Victoria. We’re pleased to be able to confirm that Jenna Coleman and Tom Hughes will return to continue the story on ITV.”

The next episode of Series 1 The Queen’s Husband airs at 9pm this Sunday on ITV.

The ‘Survivor: Millennials Vs Gen-X’ Review – “May The Best Generation Win”

Things got off to a predictable start as The Millennials & Gen-X waged war over dominance for Generational-Superior. Or “culture clash” as Jeff Probst oddly put it.

The predictable part came as the 20 Castaways were separated into their respective Tribes with Treasure Hunter Paul Wachter spouting the a common rhetoric about “participation awards” and the bizarre notion that us Millennials don’t walk to the store to get milk.

Ho-Hum … It’s gonna be long season.

Survivor Millennials Vs Gen X

Not that Snowboard instructor Taylor Lee Stocker made things better. Leaning on the decidedly ‘Bro-Chaco’ side with confession about Kraft Beer.

A seriously long season.

For all the dumb confessional and ignorant statements, we did get glimmers of strategy from Gen-Xer Jessica Lewis. Who happened to find a ‘Legacy Clue‘ that sees her gain an advantage on Day 36 … should she make it that far. The interesting part, should she get voted out before then, she is able to will it to another contestant. The take-away from this seems to me that the Survivor Producers are dead set on making the Final Immunity Advantage more of a strategy-move then wining a random Reward Challenge at the Final Four.

For Jessica however this seemed to put a wind in her sails as it didn’t take her long to call out paranoid Family Guy Writer David Wright for hunting for the Idol.

survivor-millennials-vs-gen-x

Oh David. For the record, I love David. He has all the paranoia of Spencer Bledsoe 1.0 with the “I’m scared of Leaves” fear of Day 1 Cirie Fields.

I hope David is heading for the right trajectory of ‘over coming the odds’, but I don’t hold out much hope with the likes of Police Sergeant Bret LaBelle and Trial lawyer Chris Hammons looking to take him out early. Especially with a 6 person alliance behind them. You hear that Taylor and Jay? 4 into 6, that’s maths Brad Culpepper would be proud of.

survivor-millennials-vs-gen-x

So the aforementioned Taylor quickly formed a bromance with fellow Millennial and Realtor Jay Starrett. And Jay and Taylor (or Jaylor) decided to take a page out of the Reynold & Eddie playbook and set about forming the ‘Hot People’ alliance.

Only problem with that is you alienate the other 6 people on the Tribe.

Smart.

But then again Eddie made it to the Final Four on Caramoan so should Jaylor make it past the Merge-boot danger zone. There is a high likelihood that either could be sitting at the Final Tribal Council.

Lord help us all.

Where this premiere episode lacked in strategy more than made up in firsts for Survivor. Such as an evacuation on Day 2.

survivor-millennials-vs-gen-x

For all the bluster (and breeze) the actually evac was a little underwhelming. I’m sure its one of those ‘you have to be there‘ sort of things and you don’t want to put Cameramen in the middle of the Cyclone. But the evac was just Probst going “it’s going to get bad” and that was it. Could we have not seen the Castaways overnight? Did no strategy talk happen at all?

Hands together for the multiply choice sections in Immunity Challenges. Did we have that last season? Maybe, but even so, this years ‘tough choice‘ or ‘shortcut‘ tried its hardest to pigeon-hole the Tribes, with the ‘lazy‘ Millennials bucking the trend by only taking one shortcut. While the ‘go-getters‘ Gen-Xers took every shortcut and paid the price for it with a trip to Tribal Council after failing to complete a 70-piece puzzle.

survivor-millennials-vs-gen-x

As first boots go Rachel Ako will go the way as one of the least memorable ones. She sure ain’t no Darnell. But she did show promise as a Castaway that could have stirred up some trouble further down the line. Unfortunately for her, she had to compete against a Cyclone and an evac that suck up most of the air time.

For all the hate that has been thrown at The Millennial Vs Gen-X theme, Season 33 has brought together a strong cast. Much like Survivor Kaoh Rong, while we still have our Red Shirts, a majority of the cast hold their weight. Which gives me hopes for a strong season ahead.

The Walking Dead Season 7: Character Portraits And New Promo

‘The Walking Dead’ Season 7 premiere is just one month away, and AMC is marking the occasion with another huge marketing push. At this point I don’t know whether ‘The Walking Dead’ needs promoting, especially with attention at an all time high as people wait in anticipation to discover just who Negan killed.

Well with these new character portraits, you can have a quick refreshers course on just who’s left in the principle cast. Each character comes with a black and white portrait, as well as a stark red close-up. Some also have an additional image of the pictures imposed over one another. The red is very clearly hinting at the danger each character currently faces, whilst with Negan it’s just another way to show how crazy he is.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The images were posted all over the internet, from IGN to Tumblr to who knows where, sending me on an hours long scavenger hunt to collate them all for you awesome Skatronixxx readers. As a result, links to only some of the original postings are listed below, but I’m unsure of where every image came from:

In addition to that enormous amount of images, AMC also released a new promo heavily featuring Ezekiel and The Kingdom. From what the trailer showed, it looks like all is not going to be straightforward there either, but when your leader is a self-proclaimed king with a pet Tiger, things are bound to be weird.

‘The Walking Dead’ Season 7 premieres Sunday, October 23rd 9pm on AMC in the US, and Monday, October 24th 9pm on Fox in the UK.
