New Girl S6 E9 ‘Es Good’

Jess and Robbie are doing nicely together and Schmidt and Cece are excited to show off their house. Jess and Robbie aren’t going to be exclusive. Though these two are hardly meant for seeing multiple partners.

Robbie tells Jess he has a date which troubles Jess because she has no one else to date. Though this always surprises me as Jess is such an amazing character with a fantastic spirit.

Nick talks to Schmidt about the lack of work on his house. Nick helps him out with his normal guy attitude. Nick is definitely the opposite of Schmidt but that is why they are best friends.

Jess tells to Winston and Cece about dating. Nick seals the deal and gets the contractor to bring in the electrical guy so they can put up walls. It definitely is good that Schmidt has a friend like Nick around.

Schmidt decides he needs to become Nick so he can become a man of the people. Jess finds a man who clearly doesn’t speak that much English and the game begins.

Robbie and Jess are testing each other with their new sweet hearts. They decide to double date which will clearly go terribly.

The date starts of rocky when Robbie’s date Babs is attractive and Jess feels bad. Jess finds Robbie is actually way cooler than she expected. Her date is definitely far worse and she is regretting this.

Nick and Schmidt get swindled by the contractor and decide to team up to take back what was taken. Hilariously Schmidt can’t break a bottle.

The date just keeps getting worse as they keep up their dates. Robbie and Jess finally show they are both into each other and everyone leaves Robbie’s house.Winston and Cece are hanging out waiting to help Jess. They realize they are very happy with their lives and are done with helping Jess until she texts Cece.

Schmidt and Nick’s plan goes awry when Nick drops the stolen goods. Jess and Robbie finally reconcile and become a couple. Nick and Schmidt realize that the contractor is a good guy and everything ends well.

The Odd Couple S3 E5 ‘Miss England’

Dani has been given the job as Producer for Oscar’s show. This means Oscar will need a new assistant which troubles him. It would certainly trouble me to lose such a great assistant.

Felix freaks out about his girlfriend Emily afraid she is depressed. It does make sense as she came home from England to be with Felix but she had to give up something that wouldn’t come again to do so. Felix does all he can to cheer her up by having dinner with her on the terrace.

Oscar doesn’t like the assistant choices but Dani asks him to trust her. The new assistant is actually terrible for unforeseen reasons. It makes sense that this woman would be terrible as Dani did just sort of choose her. Just because she acts sweet doesn’t mean she can do well on the job.

Since his girlfriend misses England he brings her to an English Pub. This is a terrible idea as Felix only really knows of stereotypical oldschool England. She is right to be angry as she storms off.

Dani fires the terrible assistant with the help of Oscar and is happy with it all. Oscar knew she could do it because he knows how great she is.  Emily breaks up with Felix so she can be independent for awhile. Felix is now left alone depressed and tells his acting friends to stop trying.

Chris Bosh comes in to do an interview with Oscar and Felix hugs him because he is sad.

Last Man on Earth S3 E9 ‘If You’re Happy and You Know It’

The gang questions Melissa about her time away and she has nothing to say. Melissa’s character is certainly changing for the worse in a lot of ways.

Carol shreds her adoption papers she worked so hard to get Gail to sign. Tandy decides to take Carol on a honeymoon to cheer her up.

Gail is hilarious as she is going crazy in the elevator. Todd decides to guard Melissa for the night because he loves her. The next morning of course she goes rogue. Really curious what the endgame at the moment with Melissa is.

Tandy recreates the time he and Carol met and rejuvenates her happiness. This is nice as it is always good to have callbacks to earlier episodes especially the first one.

Trapped in the elevator Gail’s shoots a bullet and it blasts back hitting her. Looks like things have gone from bad to worse for Gail.

Todd looks for Melissa and finds her on the roof. She appears to want to jump so he helps her off and they go for a walk. I have a suspicion of what Todd is up to, but it makes sense.

Tandy and Carol catch a fish which she names Gail. Todd locks Melissa in a room with a two way mirror so they can watch her.Tandy and Carol go back to see the fish and it is outside its bucket dead. It suddenly returns to life shocking them. Does this mean that the gang will actually find Gail before she dies from blood loss?

The Fall Finale ends with the characters in different places emotionally. Bleeding and knowing she won’t be found Gail shoots herself ending her life. I really do hope that she isn’t dead, but with what we know now our scrappy crew just lost one.

Son of Zorn S1E8 ‘Return of the Drinking Buddy’

A flashback to Zorn’s past reveals his old drinking buddy. The office is celebrating and Zorn invites his violent old friend Headbutt-man. This character is definitely going to be a dangerous add to the episode.

Alan asks his crush to go to a party with him even though they are both unpopular. Zorn tells Edie and Craig that his terrible friend is going to stay with them. I have to wonder how this will affect Alan.

It turns out that Headbutt-Man has a daughter who is just as ugly as he is. Alan is forced to  bring Headbutt-Girl to the party even though he doesn’t want to. Headbutt-Man no longer parties and immediately fits in with Craig and Edie shocking Zorn. Of course Zorn is shocked, he just wants to party with his old friend.

Zorn brings his friend to the work party as Alan and Headbutt-Girl arrive at their party. Seeing everyone party Headbutt-Man orders a drink. For a man who claims to not drink he is way to quick to start drinking.

Headbutt-Man’s girlfriend and Edie know each other from Summer Camp. There is certainly tension in the room as we learn that they both dated the same guy. Humorously Craig calls the guy and they find out that he was an ass. Alan is afraid to swim with his friends because of his animated legs. This is a perfectly reasonable thing, but I think animated legs sound pretty cool.

If Headbutt-Man headbutts one more thing he could literally die. Zorn’s boss Linda suggests Headbutt-Man headbutt something. He wants to headbutt her truck. Clearly his brain doesn’t work.

Alan is kind to Headbutt-Girl but gets headbutted so Layla stays with him. Headbutt-Man’s girlfriend saves him and they are to head home the next morning. Zorn throws keys at him which hit him in the head and he falls back, hopefully he isn’t dead.

This show is great when it really fuses the two realities of these different worlds. I hope we see more of Zorn’s friends join him in the real world. This episode certainly added a nice layer of what Zorn was like when he was young which is good to strengthen his character.

Son of Zorn S1E9 ‘The War on Grafelnik’

Its Christmas time and Alan has to choose between Zorn and Edie for celebrating. Zorn tells them all about the story of Grafelnik which sounds just like Taken. It is rather humorous how they spin the story of Grafelnik but you can clearly see it is a Taken reference.

Craig runs away from a Santa wine cover. Don’t tell me he’s afraid of Santa? Meanwhile, Zorn sends Alan to a scary location for Grafelnik. Ah Zorn, as much as he cares for Alan he has no idea what danger is.

We find out that Craig is terrified of Santa after a terrible childhood moment. After hearing what scared him, I think anyone would be terrified of Santa.

Zorn and Alan have some fun Grafelnik time. Edie and Zorn both want to spend the holiday with Alan. Of course they do, they are both his parents and he is almost old enough to leave them. Craig goes to see Santa so he can get over his fear. He tries to sit on his lap but certainly can’t go through with it. Zorn buys Alan a hover side car when he asks. Edie is of course disgusted as anything Zorn gets is usually very dangerous.

Edie overhears Alan’s bragging about his plan and goes to see Zorn. Edie and Zorn go all Grafelnik on Alan to reach him a lesson. It is nice to see these two team up. Wouldn’t mind an episode flashback with Zorn and Edie in Zephyria.

Zorn goes to sack Santa’s village at the mall. Edie and Zorn fake fight and when Zorn lights the tree on fire Alan breaks. Edie and Zorn’s revenge worked but they terrified a good number of children. They even manage to send a Santa inflatable to the ground and it covers poor Craig. Craig thinks he is cured but soon runs off totally afraid.

Zorn brings out Zephyria killer bees as the final Grafelnik revenge. Definitely one of his most terrible ideas especially when as the episode ends you hear the characters scream.

I did enjoy this episode and think that it is always nice to think of crazy fake holidays. Sure this won’t be remembered like Festivus but I think it is interesting to bring revenge into the holiday season. Definitely works for an insane cartoon barbarian.

New Girl, S6 E6 ‘James Wonder’

Nick owes Schmidt and Cece a wedding present and Jess might be principal. Winston wants to be undercover and has chosen the name James Wonder. Jess tries to talk to one of the parents trying to get his vote so she can become principal.

Nick is troubled by Schmidt and CeCe’s wedding registry. He thinks it is created by robots because of a prank from Winston. Winston’s pranks always do go to far or come short so it is good to see one land. Though Nick is already the most paranoid of the group.

Winston goes to the event Jess is at and his undercover character goes over well. Jess is told she would be a terrible principal for the school she is vice president of.

Nick talks to Schmidt and Cece drunk about what to get them. Schmidt of course gets angry and Cece is nice as usual. Schmidt and Cece really are a great couple and I enjoy seeing them complete each other.

Jess is forced to bring in James Wonder even though she despises Winston’s character.Winston gets in over his head and since Jess is eavesdropping she goes to save him. Winston is thrilled of course as the former principal is in love with him.

Nick gets a terrible gift in the form of a pretty woman tattoo of Schmidt and Cece. They hate it but are flattered I guess. Only Nick would think a tattoo would be a good present, but at least he did try.

Jess saves Winston and then struggles to say yes to adding Ventriloquism to the curriculum. She certainly doesn’t hate ventriloquism she just questions the merit of teaching it to young children.

Schmidt and Cece tell Nick they hate his present. Jess decides she doesn’t want to do everything for the parents. She says she will do it all for the kids and actually has been doing great with them. She does end up getting the job of course.

Nick ends up changing his tattoo with all his friends as support. I mean there was no way he was going  to spend 2000 dollars to get it removed.

This episode was definitely a good one as it showed our characters growing. Winston certainly does have a knack at creating characters and clearly can get sucked into them, but it should serve his cop career. Nick is just Nick in this episode but its clear he cares for his friends deeply. Can’t wait to see what happens to Jess as Principal of this weird school.

The Walking Dead SN7 EP08-‘Hearts Still Beating’

After a brutal half season, The Walking Dead picks up the pace to end on a hopeful note.

the-walking-dead-episode-708-rick-lincoln-3-935

There we have it folks, The Walking Dead has bowed out for 2016, and low and behold it actually ended on a note of hope. The show has done an effective job of showing us just how horrible Negan and the Saviours can be across this half season, but seeing our heroes beaten down can only be interesting for so long, so it was fantastic to see that we’re finally headed on a March to War. However, it wasn’t that easy. Rick and Co couldn’t Rise Up without one last horrible experience to push them over the edge, so naturally, this episode also saw the deaths of Spencer and Olivia. The former an all-around douche who once showed promise of becoming something more, the latter a kind soul who provided one of the most satisfying scenes of the series when she slapped Negan round the face for his general creepiness. I was sad to see both of them go, but their legacy will always be that their deaths were the final push Rick needed to fight Negan.

The final act of the episode certainly offered up the most exciting scenes, however, there was a lot of merit to what came prior. We finally got to see Morgan and Carol for the first time since Episode 2, and their scenes, whilst rather talkative, contained some complex character moments. Neither Carol nor Morgan wants to kill anymore, much to the chagrin of the Kingdom’s chief security guy Richard, and with the Kingdom looking set to join in on the war against the Saviours, it will be interesting to see how long they can stay like that. What was most telling about their scenes was Carol’s stance. She clearly wants nothing to do with the group anymore, but they’re bound to cross paths, so the only question is, will all the deaths that have occurred since she left spur her to fight? Learning of Glenn’s death at the very least should cause some strong emotions within her. Carol, even when she doesn’t want to be a one-woman army, remains one of the show’s most interesting characters, so hopefully we’ll be seeing a lot more of her again this next half-season.

The events transpiring at The Kingdom only took up a small part of this week’s extended episode, which effectively told several smaller stories away from the main narrative at Alexandria. Michonne’s misguided journey to find Negan took a surprisingly emotional turn when the Saviour she’d captured knew she had to die. It was always going to end that way, but the way the Saviour accepted she had to die was oddly sad. Sure we know the Saviours aren’t great people, but we’d never specifically seen this one do anything terrible. It revisited the question that was most prevalent in the back half of Season 6, as to whether Rick’s group is just as bad now. Michonne may not have found her way to win, but she did manage to make Rick see sense, and that in itself is one heck of an achievement.

Speaking of Rick, his supply run with Aaron came to an exciting climax, whilst also introducing a new mystery to the series. The lake Walkers proved yet again that the show will never run out of creative ways to have the group battle the undead hordes. It was certainly an exciting sequence overall, but as seems to always be the case nowadays, it wasn’t until they got back to Alexandria that their real problems began. There were several moments this episode that all likely helped in pushing Rick over the edge, but having to watch helplessly as Aaron was brutally beaten in front of him was likely the one that resonated with Rick most. It was a brutal sequence, but one that was necessary, alongside what happened to Olivia and Spencer, in explaining why Rick would risk everything to go against Negan.

So, I’ve referenced it enough times, what made that final sequence in Alexandria so thrilling? A combination of things really. Having read the comics, I was pretty certain Spencer would bite the dust, however seeing such an iconic scene play out on screen was still shock inducing. It’s one thing to see someone gutted in the pages of a comic book, it’s another thing entirely to watch it happen in live action. The special effects team did a brilliant job, as did Austin Nichols who plays Spencer in the run up to that moment. Spencer has always been a fairly complex character, bouncing constantly from being likeable to downright annoying, so it’s sad to see him leave. Especially because in those last moment he was truly trying to emulate his mother and make her proud. Deanna would have never suggested Negan kill Rick, though I’m not sure that’s exactly what Spencer wanted either, but nevertheless he was trying to uphold his family’s legacy, and that’s not a bad way to go.

I mentioned that Spencer dying didn’t really come as a shock, but conversely, Olivia dying very much did. It’s another departure from the comics, and even in the show it sort of came out of nowhere. Whenever any smaller character gets increased screen time on this show, the signs never bode well for them, but given most of what we’ve seen with Olivia over the course of this half season also happened in the comics, it was a complete surprise to see her killed off. It was also a much more upsetting death than Spencer’s. Spencer has been kind of a dick the past few episodes, whereas Olivia has always been sweet, and just pure awesome when she slapped Negan, so her death certainly had some emotional resonance behind it, which you always risk lacking when a character hasn’t been developed too much. Overall it was just a crazy sequence, but one that will have huge repercussions down the line.

Of course with all the insanity of a mid-season finale comes a lot to cover, so other notable highlights include:

  • I have to discuss the last scene for how hopeful it was. We’ve seen this characters go through hell this half season. Through some of the worst trauma they’ve faced in this apocalypse, and the most testing times, but whatever doubts anyone might have about this show, that final scene where the group mostly gets back together should wipe them all out. These characters are special, and it’s the bonds between them that make this show worth watching so that final scene showed the best of The Walking Dead. It is a show about the people. And the people are finally back together!

  • I’m glad to see they’re including more of Father Gabriel. He’s gone through such an awesome character arc, and I hope we get to see him in more action soon. Nevertheless, his preaching powers are still up to scratch, as he managed to convince Rosita not to blindly shoot Negan without thinking of the consequences. Of course, I’m not sure he banked on her lover being gutted right in front of her. That’ll usually push someone to shoot. She really doesn’t have much luck with men does she?

  • We briefly saw a side to Negan that I don’t think we’ve really seen before, and that was one of pure rage. Even when killing Abraham and Glenn he was his usual charming, darkly humorous self, but as soon as Lucille was damaged, he became truly angry. It’s something I want to see a little more of, as currently Negan feels a little one note.

  • Daryl escapes! Daryl kills Fat Joey! Rick and Daryl hug! Rosita and Sasha are friends! Maggie completely ruins Gregory in a few words! Rick gets his Colt Python back! Eugen was taken! Everything was crazy!

  • So who’s the mystery person stalking the group? Could it have been the owner of the supplies Rick and Aaron took? From that post-credits scene, we know they’ve found Alexandria and are watching the group. So the question is, are they friend, or foe?

So The Walking Dead rounded off the first half of Season 7 with a great episode that sees the show starting to move on from the dreariness of Negan’s rule, as the characters now start to Rise Up. The two notable character deaths this episode worked as the final catalyst to force Rick into action, with both leaving yet another significant dent in the Alexandria community. The main takeaway from the episode is that the group is finally back together, after a fairly disjointed half season. With everyone’s respective plans having been carried out and either succeeded or failed, it’s nice to see the group starting to work together again, which will hopefully make Season 7’s back eight episodes more coherently structured. The show will return February 12th in America and the following day in the UK, so until then I bid you adieu, and thank all who have been reading these reviews.

Joe has had a blast watching The Walking Dead these past eight weeks, no matter how brutal it got. To see what he rambles on about whilst it’s on its mid-season break, check him out @resonantrevs on Twitter.

We Bare Bears S2E22 ‘Christmas Parties’

Its Christmas time for the Bears and Panda is watching a yule log. Ice Bear brought in a huge tree because that is just how he rolls.

The Bears suddenly get invited to Four Christmas parties. They are clearly going to have fun at all of them but Nom Nom’s bash excites them the most. Ah, Nom Nom you terrible little Koala. Looks like they have to stuff all the parties into one night.

First they head to Ranger Tabes’ party. The Bears liven up the party just in time for the party alarm to go off. Once they leave the fun ends for Tabes.

Next is Charlie’s Party which is in a tree. Charlie certainly has his own idea of Christmas and it apparently has to be in a tree. They leave before he finds a star for his tree.

They then head to Chloe’s house and meet her extended family. They head out after knocking the food off the table. The bears offended Chloe but now they can go to the best party.

Nom Nom doesn’t want them at the party.Even though I have to think that he is really friends with the bears his terrible nature wins out. He kicks then out after giving them a puppy.

Realizing that they really screwed the pooch by not enjoying their real friend’s parties they vow to fix things. The three bears give the puppy to Tabes who is clearly overjoyed. Charlie finds the perfect topper to his tree and is stoked to have what he thinks is a perfect Christmas. As they hurt Chloe the most they make a huge feast for her and her family. It is clear that now they truly have had the most amazing Christmas.

Regular Show in Space S8 E24+25 ‘Christmas in Space’

Its time for the final Christmas Regular Show. The gang is happy enjoying Benson’s Peppermint Bark. The gang starts telling stories.

Skips tells a story about a planet called Celsius. The planet is only survivable for living things for 5 minutes. The gang has a fun time with the snowy natives as the time counts down. This is an interesting notion thinking about only being able to survive somewhere for such a short period.

Muscleman skis down a mountain hurting himself. The small natives become monsters as they run to the ship. They sacrifice their gifts to stave off the yetis. Since they learned the true meaning of Christmas, Ludlow the Laser Nose Reindeer saves them. Rigby is happy to have his present, but as it is a “hover board” it bursts into flames.

Benson doesn’t appreciate the horror vibe that is growing because he loves Christmas. Benson tells a story about Skips getting a T-shirt cannon. Suddenly a Rock-star caroler appears and summons the 12 days of Christmas. I love when shows are able to take Christmas songs and make them vicious.

The gang rushes to find cookies to send the caroler away. They gather all the cookies which is just a shame. I would certainly not be happy to give up all my cookies.Shooting cookies into his mouth he leaves as that is all he ever wanted.

Benson is upset with the group and goes to the kitchen. Benson can be such a baby, but I do get it, I hate when something is changed up on me.

The next story has Mordecai and Rigby buying a present for Pops. They go up in the elevator and pass through each dimension. The Fifth Dimension shows every thing that could happen.

I think it would definitely be hard to stop my mind from wandering if I were in that situation. With so many great stores, it would drive me crazy not to wonder. They soon get the typewriter and head out as the store and their clones begin to disappear. The look on Pops’ face is great as he is just so excited to get a gift, even if it is all damaged.

Benson tells a story about Krampus and scaring Rigby. Krampus actually exists and soon is after Benson for wasting his time. The gang activate their weapons to take out Krampus.  Now, Krampus is certainly a truly terrifying being and is interlocked with Christmas so I guess Benson is okay with using him in a story.

Benson of course puts hand-bells in his story. The gang use the hand bells to defeat the Krampus. Everyone tells Benson that hand-bells suck and he is upset. Suddenly Space Santa arrives and tells them all that Benson is the most Christmas of them all. Benson and Space Santa play hand-bells and it is a happy Christmas evening.

Photos of Sigourney Weaver and Finn Jones Leak From “The Defenders” Set

Whilst we eagerly await details of the Netflix series of Marvel’s Iron Fist, set photos of Finn Jones (Game of Thrones, Sleeping Beauty, The Bill) as Danny Rand on the set of The Defenders have appeared online.

dannyrandleakedimage

The photos so far show no costume yet, however they do show Danny walking out of a glass building in a smart suit – much different to his attire from the promotional trailers, where he was more akin to a homeless person.

These photos seem to add more questions than answer any – could he be involved in some sort of law suit and a lawyer has got him all dressed up? (A certain Matthew Murdock, perhaps?)

sigourney-weaver-on-the-defenders-set-resize

Photos of Sigourney Weaver (Alien, A Monster Calls, Political Animals) have also appeared online. Weaver is due to play the villain in the series, however details of who she’ll actually be playing are very scarce. The set photos don’t reveal much either – simply her well dressed and at a restaurant.

mistyjessresized

Other theories suggest he may be trying to get back in with his family company, Rand Corporations. The company was founded by his father, Wendell Rand and his partner Harold Meachum – when the Rand’s are presumed dead, Meachum takes over the company. However, Danny’s return allows him to eventually take back his fathers company. There is every chance Danny’s role in both Iron Fist and The Defenders will follow this story, as it would aid nicely to Danny keeping his Iron Fist identity a secret.

Other set photos have leaked as well, including Krysten Ritter’s (Big Eyes, Don’t Trust the B- In Apartment 23, Breaking Bad) Jessica Jones coming face to face with Misty Knight from Luke Cage, Mike Colter (Million Dollar Baby, Zero Dark Thirty, Salt) back in New York City and getting rather cosy with Rosario Dawson’s (Sin City, Rent, Death Proof) Claire Temple, and also Jessica and Matthew Murdock (Daredevil, played by Charlie Cox – Stardust, The Theory of Everything, Legacy.)

The Defenders aired a trailer at San Diego Comic Con earlier this year, and while it didn’t reveal much, we do know the series will be coming to Netflix at some point in 2017.
