We Review Doctor Who ‘The Lost Episodes’

I just recently purchased the lost episodes of Doctor Who on DVD. Super excited to see what these lost episodes were. Hard to think there are ones out there that were never broadcast in the US. But there are 4 episodes that were never aired here… why? Well I don’t know but for whatever reason they weren’t. So here is my review of the first one, called The Crusade: The Lion.

(SPOILERS)hartnell02

Now these episodes are still with the very first doctor, William Hartnell, with 3 companions, Barbara, Nicki and Ian. His granddaughter is not with him during these ones though. We find the Doctor in the past, a time with what looks like knights in a crusade. King Richard’s time I guess.  So they are attacked after appearing in the woods by some knights, and of course the battle is very corny. The fighting styles back then, well, they make you giggle that’s for sure. And during the process of the fight, Barbara is captured. She is taken to King Richard, where she gets to meet the man himself. (Or at least a guy pretending to be the King, as to protect his highness) The “king” is kind to her but questions her appearance. He then decides that she will have a different name and title, Sister Joanna to the King. They are interrupted by a jerk in a sultan clothing line who makes threats and leaves the screen.

Then the scenes cut to the Doctor in the market, “gathering” clothes to dress up in so they could blend in with the others. He is being crafty in his endeavors to achieve a new clothing line for his companions, which is cute and silly. Hiding under tables and taking the clothing on top while the shops keep is distracted by another.

The scenes go back to the sultan clothed dudes who bring the “king” and “princess Joanna” to the Sultan, who figures out that the imposters are the not king and his sister. He doesn’t seem to be so angry with this, but instead makes everyone leave as he questions Barbara and where she came from and what she is doing here.

Scene then goes back to the Doctor and the other two companions who are now trying to plead with the real king about getting some guys to help rescue their friend, which does not go to well. The king does not wish to do any trades or whatnot with the other lordly dude, considering he had killed the king’s friends (not cool) and will not have anything to do with this mission. He feels that Barbara can rot there with the Sultan guy before he considers doing business with him. The Doctor and companions now have to figure out what they can do next to get their friend and companion back.

Ok there was the first of the 4 episodes. Short and sweet, not sure why this was not released in the United States…. Seemed like the other episodes of this time. No idea. But the next one I will review is audio only so this may be a challenge trying to keep up with what is going on and just listen…. I have a hard time just listening  Hope you enjoyed this. ^_^

We Check Out The YouTube Channel ‘VSauce’

Ever wonder what would happen if Superman actually punched you, or if Godzilla could actually exist? How about warm holes, stopping earthquakes or if Mario is really a villain? Then I recommend checking out the YouTube channel Vsauce.

I came across this channel while browsing the wonderful world of Nerdy Nummies (I did an article on her channel and totally recommend checking her out if you haven’t already) and to my wonderful surprise, it had all this amazing information fit for those of us who ever wondered what would happen if Superman actually hit you. Spoiler alert, you would no longer exist, just so ya know.

Several people with so much information run this channel. My favorite person to watch is Jake Roper who runs the vsauce3 channel. He is the one who does the Superman and Godzilla info, as well as what would happen if you were hit by Captain America’s shield, or if you were a giant and so on. This young man is very animated when telling these hypothetical facts, which makes it very fun to watch.

I highly recommend checking out his as well as the other Vsauce channels. They are just really fun and wonderfully informative. Though some of the stuff they say may be a bit over my head it’s still really neat. ^_^

Capcom Monster Hunter To Hit The Big Screen

So I have yet to play this game myself, and seriously want to. After purchasing this for my brother a few Christmases ago, I have been wanting to get my hands on it for myself but been too busy to do so. L But I may have the push I need to get my bum in gear after seeing the movie. ^_^

That’s right, it seems they will be doing another video game to movie thing again. As they have in the past with movies like, Final Fantasy, Super Mario Brothers, the new Assassins Creed, Dead or Alive, Street Fighter (two movies here), Mortal Kombat, and others. Not sure if you could count Pixels here but it does have all the old school games from my generation…. O.o

dragon-hunter-monster-ultimate

Anywho, as mentioned above they are doing this again, but with the ‘bigger in Japan’ game of monster hunter. This was announced by producer Ryoso Tsujimoto during the Capcom’s Tokyo game show. The movie will be a live action (as it should be) though there are some speculation that it may not work for live action. Yet the producer said that the movie won’t be from the stories but its own mold of the game instead.

Well which ever way they go with this, I am sure this movie will be awesome to see. I mean I personally love movies with monsters, and the bigger the better. Which from what I gather of the game, you encounter a lot of different monsters and get to use fun weapons at that. It will be neat to see what they come up with for our viewing pleasure. ^_^

Black Widow Back-Story Was Cut From Captain America: Civil War

Captain America: Civil War has started the journey for the next few films to come out, leading up to the biggest war in superhero history. The directors did such a great job with the story that it left the fans pining for more and anticipating what we will see in the upcoming movies. Marvel and directors shared with us new faces, thicker plots, and origins so we don’t wonder how they started, but they left out someone….. Black Widow.

Natalia_Romanova_(Earth-12131)_007  theavengers_black_widow1

I know I was there with everyone else, just accepting that she was just there, no rhyme or reason behind how she became the Russian spy or what have you. Sure, they told us how she met Cap and the others, but no Widow history. (Avid fans of the Marvel and DC universes and readers of comic books my understand, but not everybody is into that.) Yet no one asked “where did she come from?” It was recently revealed recently that a conversation between the Cap and his red head Russian sweetie was cut from the original movie. (and no one is complaining about this or suing Marvel… just sayin’) the scene between the two should have gone something like this:

Natasha studied Cap’s expression of resolve. Finally, she said, “In Russia, in the red room, there were dozens of us. All girls, all young. We lived together. They let us be friends. Then they dropped us in the tundra, two weeks’ walk from home, with just enough supplies for one of us to survive.”

The Cap looked at her, understanding her meaning.

“Don’t let them push us into the cold,” she said”

Hollywood makes its cuts in movies, as we all well know, and for whatever reasons they had, they felt Natasha was fine where she was and didn’t need further explaining. The movie rocked regardless and we are all waiting to see what new faces and stories we will have in future Avengers movies. ^_^

Superman Returns ‘Man Of Steel 2’ In Development

Man-of-Steel-sequel-on-hold.jpg

And thank goodness for that. I mean I was hoping they weren’t just going to go with Dawn of Justice to be the sequel for Man of Steel. There needed to be more behind Superman than just a beginning. There were four movies for the original Superman series back in the 80s (which I watched religiously, yes even the third one which was not very good) so I would think that now since they have a wonderful concept on an old fav hero, that they would run with it and bring us more.

It’s been about 3 years since the Man of Steel came to the big screen back in 2013, and there has finally been a confirmation by Henry Cavill’s manager that we may be seeing a Man of Steel 2. Apparently Mr. Cavill is already filming for Justice League, and in development for a Superman sequel. And in case you are wondering or have been under a rock, Justice League is set to be out in November of 2017 (yes have to wait until next year…)

As for now, Henry has been super busy with other projects and movies it seems. And when you are a booming star the way he has become since his days of Tudors (yes ladies if you have not seen this, go watch it now and thank me later) you start getting your hands in everything and expand as much as you can. ^_^

Will Captain Jack AKA John Barrowman Be Returning For The Next Season Of Doctor Who?

And the sources seem to be pointing to….. YES!!!! There just may be some more of the Captain Jack action when the season returns to us this spring.

barrowman-as-harkness1.jpg

During an interview with radiotimes.com, he was asked if he would ever return to Doctor Who, he replied with “yes, the answer is always yes.” And why shouldn’t he be back? I mean we know (SPOILERS) that he is the Face of Boe, who has been around for quite some time. So naturally you would think that there may be more encounters with him later in the Who series. We have to see how he becomes just a face with no body. I mean, we know kind of what goes down, but let’s see it too.

Further in the interview he reveals “…My producers here in the US for the show I’m on at the moment, Arrow, they’ve said if that did happen we’d let you do it. I would love to do it, and I do know that there’s a huge fan base.” Doesn’t this just make you want to squeal??? *EEEEEK*

John Barrowman has done his time on the set of Doctor Who, Arrow, Torchwood (which is currently on pause at the moment due to some ego issues I guess) and other wonderful shows. To have him back on with the Doctor would be fantastic. And I can’t wait to see how his personality would clash with the current Doctor. Could you just imagine? ^_^

Jared Leto to Play Andy Warhol in New Biopic

picture1

Oscar winner Jared Leto is due to play Andy Warhol in an upcoming biopic about the artist’s life. Leto, who recently appeared in the 2016’s more colourful DC outing Suicide Squad as the Joker, will star in the movie based on the 1989 book Warhol: The Biography by Victor Bockris. He is famously a method actor, so I personally am looking forward to seeing the 28 hour video of a tramp sleeping he will inevitably make to get into character.

Leto will also co-produce the film with Michael De Luca, whose previous production credits include the two Nicolas Cage Ghost Rider films, Best Picture Oscar nominees The Social Network, Moneyball and Captain Phillips, and Razzie Worst Picture winner 50 Shades of Grey – an eclectic mix there, Mr De Luca!

Former Xena: Warrior Princess writer Terrence Winter will provide the screenplay. Winter also wrote and produced for Boardwalk Empire and the Sopranos, as well as writing the screenplay for 80s yuppy-fest The Wolf of Wall Street. This is not Winter’s first brush with Andy Warhol, as he also appeared as a recurring character in his recently cancelled HBO series Vinyl.

Andy Warhol was a leading figure in the Pop Art movement in the 1960s, famed for his Campbell’s Soup Can pictures and his brightly coloured portraits of icons such as Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley. His studio The Factory was a haven for artists, playwrights, drag queens, intellectuals and celebrities, and he was openly gay in a time before the gay liberation movement.

Jared Leto has come under fire by the LBGT community before, when he played Rayon, a transgender AIDS patient in The Dallas Buyers Club. Although Leto came away with an armful of awards for his performance, he also found himself on the receiving end of a lot of criticism from the underrepresented community. Leto himself has said that he thinks Hollywood is ‘too conservative’ for gay leading men (I’m sure Neil Patrick Harris, Zachary Quinto and Lee Pace agree totally…) so time will tell if he can win back the fans he angered in 2014.

Warhol has no release date yet, however you can catch Jared Leto in next year’s Blade Runner remake and potentially in the Harley Quinn solo project that Margot Robbie has already signed on for.

New Power Rangers Posters Reveal Zords

ne6zbphmia5v9a_2_b

Fans of the original live-action TV series Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers probably know the morphin’ sequence by heart–“It’s Morphin’ Time! Mastodon! Pterodactyl! Triceratops! Sabre-toothed Tiger! Tyrannosaurus!”.  Lionsgate has released a few new character posters in anticipation for the upcoming “Power Rangers” movie reboot, spotlighting all five of the film’s leading Rangers (WOO!).

The posters are immediately catch the eye by giving us our first look at the film’s Zords. Probably the most memorable aspect of the Power Rangers mythos, Zords are the gigantic assault weapons piloted by the Rangers, which, in times of extreme trouble join together to form an even larger Zord — the Megazord.

The Rangers themselves are being played by lesser-known, but up and coming, actors; including, relative newcomer Dacre Montgomery as Jason the Red Ranger, as well as Naomi Scott (The Martian) as Kimberly the Pink Ranger, RJ Cyler (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl) as Billy the Blue Ranger, Ludi Lin (Monster Hunt) as Zack the Black Ranger and pop star Becky Gomez (aka Becky G) as Trini the Yellow Ranger.

Power Rangers is being directed by Dean Israelite (Project Almanac), who will most likely be on stage with the cast to take questions and present new footage from the film during its NYCC presentation.

Daredevil Ep. 17 “Penny and Dime”

daredevil-penny-and-dime

In my time of being both a fan and reviewer of Daredevil, one thing I’ve noticed is their uncanny ability to lure us into a false sense of security only to drop some serious bombshells on the audience. The plot of this episode is someone difficult to describe outside of gangsters kidnap Punisher; Punisher and Daredevil fend off gangsters. But there is so much more.

First of all, it should be noted this episode is gruesome. Okay, Daredevil isn’t exactly known for pulling its punches in the violence department. However from the first scene where someone is stabbed in the eyes, it is pretty clear this is gonna be a bloody episode. To be fair, this is not violence for nothing. Early on, we see a scene of the Punisher treating a wound, which is fairly bloody, but that is a warm-up act. There are scenes where the Punisher is captured. To gain info and torture him, the mafia members drive a drill through the Punisher’s foot in a pretty brutal scene. Punisher somehow recovers from this and we see him shoot mobsters with some pretty graphic entrance/exit wounds. These scenes do exemplify just how viscous the mob members are, how the Punisher can be equally brutal.

There are slower moments as well. There is a great moment where Castle watches the carousel. Just waiting for something to go wrong turns what could be a simple scene into something ominous (especially when things do go south). The show has demonstrated the multiple faces of Frank Castle’s personality. However, this is the episode that reveals a little about his backstory – he was a war vet who read to his daughter and watched his family murdered in gang warfare. The scene is merely a lengthy dialogue scene, but man is it effective. Actor Jon Bernthal does a great job communicating the emotion of a man who regrets not spending more time with his daughter before she was murdered. This is a touching scene where just a few facial expressions let us know Daredevil is transitioning from thinking of the Punisher as a foe to an actual human.

This great scene is followed by another great scene where the police catch the Punisher and Daredevil convinces the cop to take the claim for catching Frank Castle, with the logic that the people need to believe in the police. The episode ends with Matt Murdock hooking up with Karen Page only to be confronted by Elektra. This is the only weak link in this episode. Karen and Matt have had hints of a romantic fling, but here it just feels out of nowhere. Just having them together might have been fine, but the idea is clearly that Elektra is throwing a monkey wrench into this “beautiful moment.”

Still, that is the ONLY wrinkle in an otherwise stellar episode. With stellar action and emotional highs, I still give this episode a glowing recommendation… if you don’t mind a little blood.

The Expanse: S1 Ep7 Windmills

We’re seven episodes into the SyFy channel’s hit TV series, The Expanse. Make sure you can pay full attention. This is another cerebral episode intended to build to the action of the last few episodes.

Ceres Station

Windmills picks up with Miller on his way home. He’s broken up about being fired. He’s also trying to figure out what he’s going to tell Julie Mao’s father. Eventually, he sees a picture of Dawes and decides to go confront him. He knows Dawes is behind his being let go from Star Helix. And, of course, he wants to settle the little matter of Dawes trying to have him killed.

Miller walks into a known OPA hang out and begins to cause a commotion. Dawes is there and calms things down before they get bad for Miller. Dawes tries to make nice with him, but Miller won’t budge. He just wants Dawes to know that, even though he’s been fired, he’s going to continue investigating the Julie Mao case.

Later, Miller goes back to Julie Mao’s apartment to look for more clues. As he’s leaving, he sees the mysterious bird that’s been following him around. Then he gets a message from an old friend. It seems the Anubis, the ship Mao was on, hasn’t been heard from lately, but a shuttle from the Anubis has been located on Eros.

Miller decides that’s where he needs to go. He quickly packs a few things and rushes off to catch the next shuttle.

Rocinante

holden-and-crew

Holden and crew are researching the current political climate they’ve been involuntarily conscripted into. They’re amazed at how big the situation is becoming.

They’re hoping to stay off the radar but come across an MCRN ship. Naomi is able to evade them. Then they find a mysterious radio transmission emanating from somewhere on the Rocinante. Amos goes to check things out and finds a stowaway.

They question him and he says he’s a consultant who’s been hired to spy on Fred Johnson. He insists that he’s friendly. But, while Holden is questioning the stowaway, the MCRN ship suddenly decides to send out a boarding team to check out the Rocinante. The stowaway tries to get Holden to work with the Mars Navy. Holden and crew are unsure whether to trust him or not.

Things get tense with the approach of the boarding ship. Holden and Amos are at the dock. Amos is ready to fight to the death. Holden wants to be cautious. There’s another standoff between the two.

As the pressure builds, the stowaway offers to help the crew of the Rocinante by keeping up their disguise. Just as the troops are about to board, Alex (a former Mars Navy pilot) remembers a codeword that the MCRN uses to signify when they are undercover.

It seemingly works. As soon as he says the codeword, the MCRN troops back off. They even turn friendly.

Finally, they crew believes they are home free until they get to Eros Station. They also locate the last known whereabouts of Lionel Polanski, the person Fred Johnson has tasked them with finding.

As they speed on their way, we notice there is something strange about the stowaway.

Earth: A North American Farming Collective: Montana.

Avarasala is visiting the place where Holden grew up. She meets Holden’s Mom.

It’s a very strategic conversation with a lot of technical positioning.

Mrs. Holden cuts to the chase and calls out Avarasala. Avarasala likes that. She wants to know if Holden was involved in the destruction of the Canterbury and the Donnager. Avarasala doesn’t think he’s innocent. Avarasala says she want’s to understand Holden in order to stop a war.

untitled-design

Finally, Avarasala makes a connection with Holden’s Mom. She hints that there is intelligence suggesting Holden may still be alive. Avarasala offers some information on where Holden might be. But she want’s more information in return.

His Mom finally opens up. Holden was supposed to take over the farm. The co-op raised Holden to think of himself as a leader. They gave him the best education. Then his Mom realized that was unrealistic so she told him to go out and explore the universe.

Satisfied, Avarasala is leaving the farm when she is contacted by the UN Undersecretary, Sadavir Errinwright, who informs her that her spy (the stowaway) has been captured by Holden and crew. He also tells her that Holden and crew gave fake codes during the boarding conversation that were being monitored by the United Nations. Turns out the reason the MCRN ship left them alone was because the UN told them to.

The Undersecretary has already activated a black ops team to get rid of Holden, Naomi, Amos, and Alex on Eros. Avarasala is devastated.

Stay tuned for the next episode of The Expanse coming soon. Comment for discussion points. Share with your friends if you’re a fan of the show!
