Charlie Cox “Excited” for Iron Fist Collaboration

img_1843

There are few things that make me want to drop everything, lock the doors and power through a Netflix boxset in a weekend – the Marvel series fall in to that category. While fans (such as myself) are eagerly counting down the days until Luke Cage hits the screens (30th September – you’re going to want to clear your schedule!), Charlie Cox has been telling fans what he’s looking forward to in the future of the Marvel Universe.

Cox, who has just signed on to reprise the role of Matt Murdock in season 3 of Daredevil, will be a key player in the upcoming Defenders series. The highly anticipated show will draw together the characters from Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist in one superhero extravaganza. Fans are keen to see how Murdock will interact with last year’s solo project star Jessica Jones, but Cox is more excited to explore his relationship with Iron Fist.

Speaking at the 2016 Toronto Fan Expo recently, Cox told fans, “The relationship I’m most interested in seeing fleshed out is the Matt Murdock and Danny Rand stuff. I just met Finn Jones the other day and I just think in the comics, that’s a great relationship so I want to see how that works out on screen.”

It will be interesting to see how the two martial artist get on with the brute force of Cage and Jones – how will Hell’s Kitchen cope!

Also, Cox dropped some personal future excitement into the mix at the Canadian convention – his girlfriend (producer Samantha Thomas) is due to give birth to a baby Daredevil any day now. Let’s hope that Charlie can get plenty of sleep before The Defenders launches (potentially next year)

Dax Shepard To Co-Direct Animated ‘Scooby Doo’ Film

awesome-scooby-doo

This is what awesome Scooby Doo looks like.

Yes you read that right. Dax Shepard, star of TV series Parenthood and various lesser known films, is set to co-direct Warner Bros.’ upcoming ‘Scooby Doo’ animated feature. The actor, who is also directing upcoming comedy action film ‘CHiPs’ based on the 1970s television series of the same name, will join ‘Space Jam’ Director Tony Cervone for the film.

This is what horrible Scooby Doo looks like.

No other details of the film are yet known, however Warner Bros will hopefully venture far away from the art direction of the current ‘Scooby Doo’ TV series. The newer art direction is reminiscent more of ‘Family Guy’ than classic ‘Scooby Doo’ which could speak to Warner Bros.’ hopes to market the brand to a mass audience. The company seems to be making various attempts to ‘modernise’ Scooby and the gang, most recently seen with the launch of the ‘Scooby Apocalypse’ comic book. That was dead in the water in most people’s eyes from the moment it was announced given the fan reaction, and was more a slap across the face to fans eager for more ‘Scooby’ than the glorious revitalisation Warner Bros. was obviously hoping it to be.

scooby-apocalypse

I have no words for this…

Still, the ‘Scooby Doo’ animated film could certainly be something to look forward to. Given the tremendous success of ‘The Lego Movie’, Warner Bros. will be looking to repeat that with its other properties, and we can only hope Scooby Doo gets the same treatment.

Alexis Arquette “Breaks Through The Veil”

There has been an outpouring of grief on social media today after it was announced that actress Alexis Arquette had passed away in the early hours of Sunday morning. Arquette, who appeared in films such as Pulp Fiction and The Wedding Singer, was 47 and had been suffering with an undisclosed illness. People Magazine has stated that a source close to the family has suggested that her cause of death was through complications from AIDS, however this remains unconfirmed. Her brother Richmond released a statement saying that she died peacefully, surrounded by her siblings and listening to David Bowie’s Starman.

As well as appearing in a number of films and tv series, Arquette was a vocal activist for transgender rights. She appeared in the 2007 documentary Alexis Arquette: She’s My Brother, which focused on her personal transition story. She had compassion and empathy for others, particularly those in less accepting situations, saying her own transition was easier because she was from a famous family.

In a statement released by the family, Arquette’s dedication to the trans community was noted. “Despite the fact that there are few parts for trans actors, she refused to play roles that were demeaning or stereotypical. She was a vanguard in the fight for understanding and acceptance for all trans people.”

Alexis Arquette was remembered by friends and family on Twitter:

Anne Hathaway Wants To Reprise DC’s Catwoman

untitled.png

During an interview at the Toronto Film Festival, Anne Hathaway said she would love to play DC‘S Catwoman again. We first saw Hathaway’s Catwoman back in 2012 for The Dark Knight Rises. *Spoiler alert.* Wanting a clean slate, she betrays Batman but ultimately helps save Gotham before departing with Wayne to live their lives in Florence.

Hathaway has described her role as Selina Kyle being the most physically demanding role she has ever played. Hathaway trained vigorously in martial arts for her role, doubling her efforts at the gym in order to keep up with such a demanding role. Hathaway’s inspiration for her take on Catwoman came from Hedy Lamarr, a bad-ass film actress and inventor during World War II.

I loved that character and I had such a blast playing her,” Hathaway said. “I’m not sure how it would work because I think the Chris Nolan chapter of the Batman story has been wrapped up and I’m part of that, but I love the DC Universe and it would be fun to take a trip back.”

Previous actresses who played Catwoman include Halle Berry and Michelle Pfeiffer, both of whom only played the role once.

Halle Berry in Catwoman (2004)

Michelle Pfeiffer in Batman Returns (1992)

With so much potential for the DC Universe, maybe it’ll be possible, but then again every Catwoman seems to only have one starring movie. Would you like to see Anne Hathaway reprise her role? Or would you rather we see a different actress bring new potential to Catwoman? Comment, share and like below, or tweet me @SohoDoll. And as always, “Never steal anything from someone you can’t outrun, kid” – Selina Kyle.

Happi Vs Drag- An All New 80’s Style Cartoon!

video-702265-h264_high

If you are a lover of cartoons and enjoyed the cartoons of the 80’s then you might want to take note. Happi Vs Drag is a new series that could take the world by storm if it is funded. This wild show will focus on two teams and their fight. Think back to GI Joe and the like as that is what it could be like.

All of the characters are wild and crazy with their own personalities. Devon McBride-Wilson is a creative man who just wants to inject some good old fashioned action into the cartoon line up. Honestly from what he has on his Kickstarter he really does have a lot of good ideas.

His characters are really thought out and you can see how much passion he has for actually getting this out there. Taking place in New Illinois, the Happi agents want nothing more than to take out their nemeses the agents of Drag. Led by Kylie an African Hunting dog the team will set out to combat their foes in every episode.

While their may be implied lessons in episodes it will be focused mainly on action. This show also will be just like 80’s cartoons in that the episodes will rarely if at all have any connection to past episodes. It will be like the past episode didn’t happen which is integral to an 80’s cartoon. The endless battle for justice is all that matters any way.

For this Kickstarter the creator is just asking for help in producing a six minute short that he can send off to networks. Something to show them he means business. With the help of the backers he is hoping to show them that people actually care about this endeavor. I really do wish him the best of luck as Kickstarter is a cruel and tenuous game. You never know who is going to fail and who is going to succeed.

I highly encourage you all to check out his Kickstarter for all of the details as that is where you can see how much he is pushing for this project. I do really think Kickstarter is such a magnificent site as so many great things are actually coming from its use. So, hopefully the devilish Drag will fall to the outstanding agents of Happi. With the world’s help we may see this show become something huge and it may just bring on a resurgence of the classic action cartoon.

‘Rose Tyler. I was going to take you to so many places….’ – Christopher Eccleston Regrets Leaving Doctor Who

eccleston-ninth-doctor-tardis

Christopher Eccleston is known among Whovians for being famously negative about his experience playing the ninth Doctor iDoctor Who’s first series since the 1996 TV Movie  – so it perhaps comes as a surprise to many that he now regrets leaving the show.

Speaking to Raf Epstein on 774 ABC Melbourne radio show Drive in Australia, Christopher Eccleston revealed ‘There’s always regret when you play a role like that, because what you do is you – I watched it back and I thought, OK, next time don’t do this, do that, you know, calibrate the performance. It was kind of tragic for me that I didn’t play him for longer, because you know, he’s a beautiful character and I have a great deal of professional pride [in it] and had I done a second season, there would’ve been a marked improvement in my performance. I was learning new skills in terms of playing light comedy, etc, etc. I was not known for light comedy, and again production did not allow for that. It’s very important on the first series that you make a very informed and intelligent choice – even if it means breaking the budget – about getting the first director who is going to set the tone for the season, for the way the actors relate, and that did not happen. Disaster. But the show has survived. Thank God. And Capaldi, and Matt, and David – are just brilliant. And I know how brilliant they are, because I’ve been inside it.’

Christopher Eccleston is the second shortest-lived Doctor, after only playing the role for one series. Paul McGann, meanwhile, only played the Doctor for a TV Movie and later reprised the role in the 2013 minisode Night of the Doctor. He has also recorded numerous audio dramas for Big Finish so it is possible that Christopher Eccleston could follow in his footsteps and star in some new audio adventures for the ninth Doctor.

It certainly seems a lot more likely that Christopher Eccleston could return to the role than it has done before. In 2011 when asked by Graham Norton on BBC Radio 2 whether he would return to the show Christopher Eccleston said ‘No. Nether bathe in the same river twice’. Recently however he has been confirmed to return for a second series of The A Word so it seems his principles have changed in regards to reprising past roles.

The first series of Doctor Who’s 2005 revival can be bought on DVD for £11.99 and Blu-ray at £24.99. It is worth noting however that the Blu-ray release is an upscale and therefore not true HD. This is because Series 1 wasn’t filmed using High-Definition cameras.

Ballers SN2 EP8 – ‘Laying In The Weeds”

Whew, Spencer Strasmore (Dwayne Johnson) wakes up to start a new day facing big changes! After a night of a tequila binge to medicate the sting of being fired from ASM, he is now carrying bags out to the car for Tracy who is taking that job with ESPN. Not much of a lost there, it didn’t look like “true love” substance any way as they both jokingly say their goodbyes.

As he meets up with Joe (Rob Corddry) who is still employed by Anderson, Spencer tells him he is coming up with an exit strategy so we need to keep his getting fired under wraps for the time being. Now what is this player up to?

Now I told you last week that things would be changing between Charles Greane (Omar Benson Miller) and Ricky Jerrit (John David Washington) and so it has! “Check please!” as Charles leaves the PUB in a huff.

So you will never guess what Spence is going to try to swing! If someone put you out the company, what would you do? Most people would get back out there and get something Bigger and Better right? Not Spencer Strasmore! He’s going to go All Out and try to BUY ASM! With what money $$? Ask Ricky.

Well it’s draft day! Matt has been doing everything Spencer has told him to do to try and bring up his value for the draft. Did it work?

Yes IT DID, but you can’t leave an episode of Ballers on a high that’s just not the Ballers Series Style!

So without hesitation, someone flaps their gums just a little too much. What’s got these guys looking like this?

Yeah man! It keeps me hanging just like you all every week. There is always something happening to keep me on edge waiting for the next episode! Until next week, I’m Malia Mercedes, blogging for Skatronixxx.com. You can also catch me at maliamercedes.com where I’m always boasting my loyalty with “Loyal Bloodline”.

New OUAT S6 Promo

The name of the promo is War.  The first thing the announcer asks is “What if your favorite storybook characters went to war?”  Er… well… um…. haven’t they been at war for basically five seasons already?  So, what else is new?

We get a glimpse of Aladdin and of course, Jafar.  I really don’t think there could possibly be anyone out there more excited for Aladdin to come to Storybrooke than I am.  I’m just hoping we get to see the Genie too… Man, I miss Robin Williams.  Sorry, got sidetracked there.

I didn’t expect anything less of The Savior though… “What’s coming and how do we stop it?”  That’s our Emma… batten down the hatches and let’s light this b!tch….and kick some major @$$ while we’re at it.

I’m really excited to see The Evil Queen return.  I mean, seriously, no body… No. Body. has a better wardrobe.  I wasn’t really surprised to see her emerge at the end of Season 5 though.  Really… what did you think was going to happen when she drank the Dr. Jekyll juice?

In fact, the only thing I didn’t see in this promo that I was looking for was a Captain Swan kiss… or really any glimpse of Hook.  Man, I love him.. okay maybe it’s that other four letter L word, but he’s second in my affections to only one man… Dean Winchester.  What can I say?  The guyliner really does it for me… well and the black leather doesn’t hurt.

Can’t wait for September 25th…. who wants to watch with me?  I’ll bring the popcorn!

REVIEW: Kubo And The Two Strings

Oscar winner for Best Animated Feature of 2016? You bet your ass. Kubo and the Two Strings is a must watch.

Agents of Shield Season 4: First Promo Released

Agents-of-SHIELD-Season-4-Ghost-Rider-Vengeance

After months of eager anticipation, ABC has finally released a short promo for the upcoming 4th Season of Marvel’s ‘Agents of Shield’. Clocking in at only 15 seconds, the promo offers fans a tantalising taste at what both Ghost Rider and the show’s new later timeslot will mean going forward. The prevailing opinion? It’s going to be more awesome than ever before.

For seasons 2 and 3 Marvel added a subtitle to the show giving a significant hint at what the Season will generally be about. Season 2 was ‘Inhumans’ as we saw their debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, whilst Season 3 was entitled ‘Fallen Agent’, referencing the build up in the season’s 2nd half to the death of a beloved agent in the finale. This season they’re going all out with Ghost Rider, and judging by the limited footage we’ve seen so far, that can only be a good thing. The moment we first see Robbie Reyes transform will be a special one indeed.

Overall the trailer didn’t show much, but it has certainly got myself and plenty of others hyped for the show’s return. Hopefully ABC will go all out with the marketing for the show now, as it needs all the viewers it can get to ensure its survival.

Marvel’s ‘Agents of Shield’ Season 4 premieres Tuesday, September 20th 10pm on ABC.
