The Host Of The Crystal Maze Revival Has Been Revealed…And It’s Not David Tennant

Channel 4 have announced the host of their Crystal Maze revival…and it’s not David Tennant. Stephen Merchant has been confirmed as the presenter taking over the reigns from previous Crystal Maze host Ed Tudor-Pole. Stephen Merchant said about the announcement “As a huge fan of the original series, I’m honoured to support Stand Up To Cancer by hosting this one-off edition of The Crystal Maze. Richard O’Brien and Ed Tudor-Pole leave big shoes to fill, but I have size 14 feet, so I’ll do my best,”

The one-off special will form part of Channel 4’s telethon Stand Up To Cancer and will be filmed at the Crystal Maze Live Experience in London. Celebrities will be the contestants this time round, although the celebrity team hoping to enter the Crystal Dome has yet to be confirmed. Let’s hope Lady C won’t be involved…

Channel 4’s Head of TV Events Ed Havard stated “We wanted something extra special for the Stand Up To Cancer campaign this year, so we’re delighted that Crystal Maze will be returning for a celebrity one-off,”

The original series of The Crystal Maze aired from 15th February 1990 until 18th May 1995. The show’s original presenter Richard O’Brien hosted it for four series before Ed Tudor-Pole took over presenting duties in 1994.  It is likely that if this one-off special proves to be a ratings success a new series will follow.

Whilst some may be disappointed that David Tennant is not the presenter, The Crystal Maze is certainly in safe hands with Stephen Merchant. As the comedian behind mega hits The Office (UK) and Extras he is sure to bring a wonderful sense of wit and humour to the presenting role. He is a good choice by Channel 4 and certainly better than the frankly terrifying idea of Amanda Holden presenting the series (which was rumoured to be the case back in 2010).

The Crystal Maze’s one-off special will air this October on Channel 4.

Jim Broadbent Cast In Game of Thrones Season 7

British actor Jim Broadbent has joined the cast of Game of Thrones in Season 7. Although it is unclear what role Broadbent will partake, many have speculated that since Ramsay Bolton and Walder Frey both died in Season 6, Broadbent is likely to play a villain. Perhaps he will be the Lord of an important House we have yet to encounter, who will wage war against House Stark‘s hold in the North. Or perhaps he won’t be a villain at all… Perhaps he will be in the Citadel, a fellow Maester, training Samwell Tarly. There’s also a third speculation. Broadbent could be a miracle cure creator, the same man who healed Shireen Baratheon‘s greyscale, who will now heal Jorah Mormont‘s greyscale.

So who is Jim Broadbent and why does he get such a significant role in Season 7? Broadbent has won an Oscar, two BAFTA Awards, a British Academy Television Award, two Golden Globes and 17 other awards. His most notable roles include:

One of the most important questions to ask when dealing with Game of Thrones, is how long will the character be on the show? I doubt Broadbent will be alive for all 13 episodes left. Plus there’s also the little pattern HBO producers have of killing off former Harry Potter cast members. Natalia Tena (Tonks/Osha), Michelle Fairley (Hermione’s mom/Catelyn Stark), David Bradley (Filch/Walder Frey), Ciaran Hinds (Aberforth/Mance Rayder), Julian Glover (Aragog/Maester Pycelle) and several others. All dead. Good luck staying alive Professor Slughorn!

The ‘Captain Marvel’ Director Shortlist Just Got Shorter

The ‘Captain Marvel’ film is still a long way off in the eyes of the fans, but it seems Marvel is starting to move things together ready for the film’s production. Now that we’ve got the incredible casting of Brie Larson as the title character out of the way, next up is finding a Director to actually make the darn thing.

The studio had narrowed the search down to just three candidates, however has since added one more. The initial candidates included: Niki Caro (Whale Rider), Lorene Scafaria (Seeking a Friend at the End of the World) and Lesli Linka Glatter (Homeland), with the newest name being added to the list: Rebecca Thomas (Electrick Children).

I can’t say i’m familiar with any of these Director’s works, with even ‘Homeland’ somehow managing to elude me all these years, however Thomas seems to be in high demand at the moment. Though neither film has got the official go ahead from their respective studios, Thomas is slated to direct both Universal’s live-action ‘The Little Mermaid’ and Paramount’s John Green adaptation ‘Looking for Alaska’.

In any case Marvel has plenty of time yet to decide, with the film not due to hit theatres until March 8, 2019! It certainly feels like a long way off now, but given what we already know about the film it’ll be worth the wait. With a script currently being penned by ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ co-writer Nicole Perlman, and ‘Inside Out’ co-writer Meg LeFauve, this film is looking set to be a treat.

If all this news is getting you too excited then don’t fret. Marvel has another 7 films releasing between the time of writing and ‘Captain Marvel’s’ release, one of which is the highly anticipated ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ which could likely see Captain Marvel make her first appearance. Between Film and TV Marvel has a lot to get excited about at the moment.

You’re The Worst, SN3 EP 1 – ‘Try Real Hard’

You’re the worst’s first episode of season 3 begins with the duo having sex. They are quite happy, happier then they have ever been. Gretchen tells Jimmy that she loves him and Jimmy is disgusted because he doesn’t remember saying it as he was blackout drunk. She then tells him that she is going to shower and in a hilarious moment tells him that she doesn’t wash her legs.

Edgar and his lady love Dorothy are doing quite well also or so it seems. Edgar is attempting to pleasure her and it is working but she wants something more. He tells her that he is just out to pleasure her and she asks if this is his way of apologizing for not moving in with her.

Lindsay and Paul are back together and Paul has given up all is nerdy loves for her as he knows they drove them apart. He has a present for her and he hopes that, that evening they will have a wonderful night.  Lindsay is also ecstatic because she thinks Paul is turning a corner.

Edgar talks to Jimmy about his problems in bed and Jimmy is disgusted by the thought of his friend’s “little friend”. Jimmy suggests Edgar and Dorothy role play as he thinks Edgar’s “little friend” is just bored.

Jimmy and Gretchen talk at the bar as Gretchen makes Jimmy drink. After finding out about the fact that she does not wash her legs, and he asks more about her. Gretchen tells him a list of different things about her including being attacked by an owl at bible camp, that she has never eaten a blueberry because they look like baby doll eyes, and that she participated the US Teen Nationals for “Horsery” as she calls it.

Lindsay and Gretchen are hanging out when her client’s for the music industry decide to interrupt. He tells her that Jimmy does not love her as men do it with action not words. He tells her there can be no press release. Gretchen is dumbfounded but relents as this is a secret reunion show.

Edgar tells Lindsay that his drugs stop his libido from working properly. She decides to make a joke about him not getting hard when he tells her things are so hard.

Sam the rapper that Gretchen represents is pissed that no one has showed up for their secret show. Gretchen runs out and is able to coerce a Spanish church filled with people with an excellent speech in Spanish into coming to the show.

Gretchen tells Jimmy that she always has one foot out the door and he is able to say I love you. Everything is now back to normal between the two yet at another level as they both have grown since their first encounter in season 1.

Dorothy is in it for the long haul with Edgar and he dumps his drugs into the toilet so he can actually pleasure her. This can’t possibly end well, but in the face of love people do crazy things.

Paul and Lindsay’s date night is driving Lindsay crazy. He is trying to make them a family since she is pregnant with his child. She stabs him in the side with a knife when he says there will never be any surprises.

Really quite the opener for a third season. It definitely shows that this season will revolve around the ideas of Edgar’s PTSD and Gretchen’s therapy among other things. I enjoyed hearing all of Gretchen’s secrets. I really do root for Jimmy and Gretchen even though they are fundamentally both the worst they are amazing together, and now that she is working to fix herself I am rooting for them even more.

I’m excited for what will happen in next week’s episode “Fix me, Dummy”.

A Message From The Upside Down…Stranger Things Season 2 Announced!

Today, Netflix delivered a message from the Upside Down – season 2 of the sci-fi horror Netflix Original series Stranger Things has been announced.

The 57 second trailer replicates the infamous opening credits of the show, showing phrases and captions as slowly but surely, the letters in the iconic neon-red font come together to spell “SEASON TWO” – before cutting to a black background with white font to confirm the season is coming in 2017.

Stranger Things is the Netflix original TV series focusing on the mysterious disappearance of a young boy from a local community and the terrifying circumstances surrounding his vanishing – and when his three friends go out in a desperate search, they instead find a mysterious girl who calls herself Eleven.

Filled with great writing, an incredibly likeable cast and so unforgivably 80’s on every front, it’s no wonder people just can’t get enough of Stranger Things.

No release date has been confirmed for Season 2, but all of the first season is available to stream on Netflix.

 

The Flash: Season 3 Premiere Pictures And Jesse Quick Rumours

Season 3 of ‘The Flash’ is speeding towards us with the premiere just over a month away, so in order to rev us up for what’s looking to be a mind boggling season for the show, The CW has released a slew of new images from Episode 1.

The CW had already revealed that Wally West (Keiynan Lonsdale) would finally be appearing as Kid Flash with a set of awesome promotional photos a couple months back, however it was unclear when in Season 3 he would be appearing. That’s all been cleared up now though as the pictures above make it very clear he’s the Flash of the Flashpoint timeline. Whether this means he’ll retain his powers when everything goes back to normal however remains to be seen. The character was a sort of non entity last season, with very little screen time of note, so giving him powers is a brilliant way to make him exciting. Take them away again though, and we might be looking at a problem.

In all the photos don’t reveal much, and so they shouldn’t, but it looks like we’re going to be treated to additional appearances by the Reverse Flash (Matt Letscher), as well as Henry (John Wesley Shipp) and Nora Allen (Michelle Harrison). Add to that Barry’s blossoming, but likely highly different, relationship with Iris (Candice Patton), and you best be prepared for a highly emotional episode.

This follows rumours that Jesse Quick (Violett Beane) is set to receive her powers this season too. The actress was spotted on set wearing what appeared to be a super suit similar to that of Barry (Grant Gustin), though nothing has yet been confirmed.

‘The Flash’ Season 3 is set to premiere Tuesday, October 4th 8pm on The CW, with international release soon after.

Sneak Peek at Supernatural Season 12

Yesterday, I was in Heaven for all of about 30 seconds.  That’s how long it took me to click on the link to a story featuring promotion pictures for the Season 12 premiere of The Show.  What show?  Seriously?  There’s only one show that I call … The Show.  Anyway, I clicked on the link so excited to see a teeny tiny glimpse into the world of my favorite brothers on The CW.  Then, I saw a blow torch and (in two other pics) a cattle prod in very close proximity to our Sammy…. and my feels had a mild melt down.

Okay… it wasn’t mild.  Don’t judge me!

But, I was quickly comforted by a picture of BAMF Dean with the same Ms. Watt… and he doesn’t look happy with her at all.  Sammy will be avenged!

Was there ever any doubt though?  I mean, really… did ya think Dean wasn’t going to save Sammy?  If so.. where have you been for 11 previous seasons?  The only difference this season is that Mama Winchester … Mary … she’ll be along for the ride too.  That sqee’ing you hear in the distance?  Yeah, that’s totally me.  Again… Don’t. Judge. Me!

 And, just in case you didn’t look at that one pic close enough…. that’s an angel blade, BAMF Mary has in her hand…. and it has BLOOD ON IT!  And, look real close at this next pic.  Mama Winchester’s in the back seat!  Dean put Mom in the backseat and Cas got to ride shotgun! (wonder if he kept his cakehole shut)

They also gave us a glorious picture of Dean (Jensen Ackles).  If you notice that it’s a little damp… it’s just that I’m still drooling over this one.

They also gave us a peek at Lady Toni Bevell.  Now, she may not be the “big bad” for this season… but she’s currently second on my $**t list … right under Ms. Watt.

Yeah.  I don’t like her much.  She stole (okay ….. technically it was kidnapping) our Sammy.

Marvel Developing ‘New Warriors’ Comedy Series Focused On…Squirrel Girl?

That’s right folks, it seems like Marvel’s looking to add to its dominance of everything by introducing another TV show to the mix.

As initially reported by TV Line, Marvel and ABC Studios are currently developing the show, with it “being shopped around to cable and streaming outlets”. Of course nothing has been officially confirmed by Marvel at this point, however given we know they’ve had several projects in the pipeline for a while now, coupled with the recent surge in interest regarding the character of Squirrel Girl, the reports seem highly likely.

Now the New Warriors themselves have always been a more obscure group of characters. Consisting mainly of teenage and young adult heroes; serving as a younger counterpart to the Avengers, the group haven’t had much success in comic book form. Indeed, the most notable appearance for the group was when they sparked Marvel’s Civil War event, an action that killed most of them off in the process.

Given their rocky history, it seems Marvel is looking to put the emphasis on a central character within the team, and in another outlandish move they’ve chosen this character to be Squirrel Girl. As obscure as the character sounds, high profile name Anna Kendrick (Pitch Perfect) has shown interest in playing the character. Speaking to Net-A-Porter she said:

“My brother sent me a Squirrel Girl comic because he thinks I should. I don’t know what Squirrel Girl does other than be half squirrel, but I could be half squirrel!”

Even ‘Captain America: Civil War’ directors Joe and Anthony Russo said this would be brilliant casting, but given Kendrick has mainly stuck to big screen appearances so far, it’s unclear whether she’d make the transition to TV.

If this rumour turns out to be true, then the series will join a whole heap of Marvel TV shows in the works, including ‘Cloak and Dagger’, ‘The Runaways’, ‘The Defenders’ and ‘The Punisher’. It’s an exciting time indeed to be a Marvel fan.
