News Of A Simpsons & Adventure Time Crossover!!

And the crowd goes wild!!! Ok, who does not love this idea? And it’s so like the wonderful producers of the Simpsons to cross over outside film characters into the world that is the Simpsons. So many other movies and TV shows have been a part of the world of Simpsons in Springfield Oregon (my home town!!) such as the Springfield Files, Simon Cowell, TMNT, Simpsonsorama, Flinstones couch, and crossover with Family Guy, and here again the writers grace us with their awesome abilities to do so again. But this time with…… drum roll please…. Adventure time!!! YAAAAAAAAAAAS!!!

This was announced at the San Diego ComicCon this summer by the producer himself at a panel. Some people had asked if they were planning on a Pokemon GO theme, which was also confirmed. And when asked if they would do a crossover of the Simpsons with Adventure Time, the supervising director of the show had pitched this idea already and is currently working on it. According to Entertainment Weekly (ew.com) the show will play the Adventure Time theme on opening with a Simpsons twist to it (like normally, we would expect no less from the show) and will be sung by show’s creator, Pendleton Ward.

So this is a must-watch for sure. I love both these shows, and can’t wait to see what they do with the episode. Though they have had some Simpsons crossovers I may not have been to thrilled with, regardless I watch and enjoy. And I hope you all do the same. ^_^

Ballers SN2 EP3 – ‘Elidee’

As the third episode of the second season opens up to this popular series, “Ballers” we enter the bedroom of Spencer Strasmore  played by Dwayne Johnson.  The room is dark and the clock is blinking “5:04″am. Spence is awoken by the sound of his cell phone ringing.

In any storyline, a call late at night or early in the morning usually means bad news.  This story was no different.  The most unlikely person to be calling him was on the other side of the line.  Who do you think it is?  Yes, Reggie (London Brown) with the words, “Vernon fucked up his leg! ” Vernon Littlefield (Donovan W.  Carter) is the star client on the Anderson Financial’s Sports Division client list and he has been injured bad enough that it could cause a problem with his newly signed contract with Dallas.

As we take a quick glance at Ricky Jerret (John David Washington) we find him landing in New Orleans being greeted by a representative who is taking him to his first meeting.  As New Orleans meets with him, Ricky asks them, “Where’s the love? ”

With time flying by,  Charles Green played by Omar Benson Miller,  is seen holding his new baby girl and mulling over his decision of having to move positions on the field from left tackle to right. It’s either make the move or don’t play at all.

While we focus on what’s happening at the hospital and the dreaded achilles injury Vernon sustained, we catch Spence thinking about his own personal challenges with his addiction to vicodin while his right hand man Joe (Rob Coddry) is notifying him that his nemesis Andre is trying to steal their clients!  Andre who is played by Andy Garcia does not miss a beat at playing the role of bad guy as he has done so well more than a few times in his career.

After an already long day Spencer and Joe entertain one of their clients, Spice to discuss his financial plans.  Spice would not be a major client to lose,  but at this point every person counts.  In this scene Spice shares a heartfelt story about his mom and how he wants to build a hotel in her honor, “I’m gonna name it, Elidee”. Spencer knows it’s a bad financial decision and can’t decide whether he should hold his tongue or go with the dream.

As New Orleans holds their formal meeting with Ricky, they write down an offer on a notepad and slide it across the table.

Ricky asks for a pen, writes on the pad and holds it up in response.

As we come to find Vernon hiding out in his home,  Spencer convinces him to answer the calls he has been dodging from the owner and face whatever consequences comes with the call. Good?  Or not good? I’ll let you find out yourself.

In the very last scene,  Ricky is sneaking off through the airport ready to leave the town of New Orleans. Hmmmm….. Did he accept an offer?  I won’t spoil it.  Watch the episode!

I know you’ll enjoy this drama filled, suspenseful episode as I did while we wait until next week to catch up with this not so ordinary, but ordinary group of guys. Beneath the hardened,  big and bulky, fearsome exterior of these outstanding athletes we find out that they express the same fears and emotions that we all do.  Recognizing ourselves in this group of icons might just be what the doctor ordered to help you and I face our own life challenges.  So until next week, I’m MALIA MERCEDES blogging the series,”Ballers” for Skatronixxx.com. Preacher, Season One Finale

God is coming! Preacher Jesse Custer promises to bring the All Mighty to Annville or he will denounce God in front of the entire town.  That’s where we left off…last week, Jesse found his faith in himself and promises that God will answer all of our questions.  Meanwhile, Tulip has found Carlos, Cassidy is healed and helping Jesse, Sheriff Root starts asking questions about Eugene’s whereabouts, Odin is excited about being right that there is no God, and the angels have hired a killer from Hell.

So let’s jump right into it.  Everything looks like its back to normal in Annville as the radio DJ announces that God is coming to Annville, Eugene is still missing, and Jesse Custer is still a wanted man…by more than just the police.  Tulip returns, looking for Jesse.  Remember, he left her a message, basically confirming he still loves her.  She meets Mose at the beauty shop and asks where Jesse is.  Mose gives her a look and Tulip asks if Sheriff Root got him.  Mose tells her that someone worse got him…Tulip knows its Donnie.

Tulip busts into Donnie’s house, pulls a gun on Donnie and Betsy and asks for Jesse.  Donnie still can’t hear and when Betsy tries tell Tulip that he can’t hear, Tulip slams her face on the dining room table.  Then out walks Jesse…who just got out of the shower…he said hi as she looks at him…confused by what she is seeing.  Later Donnie tells Tulip that Jesse saved him.  He showed him mercy and that he wasn’t a killer. So when Donnie found out Jesse was on the run, he offered to help him by letting him stay with the Schenks.

Cassidy is in jail…talking about someone’s eyes and smile…Tulip maybe…to the old high school Indian mascot.  When the Sheriff releases the mascot, he stays behind to ask Cassidy “Where is he?”  Cassidy explains that he doesn’t know where Jesse is.  The Sheriff says he’s talking about Eugene. Cassidy tells him that he doesn’t want to know.  Sheriff Root goes through Cassidy’s criminal record and finds that his record stretches throughout the 20th century.  Cassidy runs at the him and Sheriff Root shoots him.  Then he offers Cassidy a cup of blood, calling him ‘Vampire.’  As Cassidy heals, Sheriff Root asks him again where Eugene is.  Cassidy tells him that he hopes Eugene is still alive, and that what happened was an accident; that Jesse would never intentionally hurt Eugene.  Cassidy asks Sheriff Root if he might be a little happy that Eugene is gone so he doesn’t have to look at Eugene’s messed up face. Sheriff Root gets angry and shoots Cassidy.  He opens the cell door and tells Cassidy he can go.

Tulip is surprised by how the whole town is acting and asks Jesse what’s going on.  He is grateful that she came back for him and he apologies to her.  She asks him for a favor.  She says it’s nasty and he tells her he will do whatever she wants. She opens the trunk of her car, points to something and says, “kill him.”

Flashback – Carlos is talking to a girl and asks her on a date and she rejects him.  Someone is listening in and laughing at him on his earpiece. Tulip and Jesse are inside of a bank, cleaning out the safety deposit boxes.  As they are talking, it is revealed that Tulip can’t drink beer.  They fill up two bags and hand them over to Carlos who puts them the car. He goes back into the bank and stops when he hears Tulip laughing.  He releases a guard and runs away.   When the alarm goes off and after Jesse has just shot the security guard in the head, we see Tulip screaming at Carlos as he drives away.  Tulip bends over in pain, something is wrong with her baby and the police are closing in.

Back to the present, Jesse asks Carlos, “why?”  Carlos answers, “you weren’t happy.”  Jesse shuts the trunk on him.  Jesse and Tulip argue about killing Carlos.  Tulip yells at Jesse for not seeing that her way is the only way.  Jesse yells back that their baby is never coming back.  Tulip says she knows but someone’s gotta pay.  Jesse goes to the kitchen, gets a trash bag and a potholder and goes outside to the car.  He puts the trash bag over Carlos’ head and a gun inside the potholder.  Tulip stops and hugs him, crying that he finally came around to seeing that she was right.  She says it wouldn’t make a difference.  Jesse goes for shooting Carlos again saying it will feel good, and Tulip argues that it will mess up her car.  So Jesse stops.  They untie Carlos, Tulip gives him a tire iron and Jesse gives him a gun, saying it’s only fair.  Carlos walks away, severely beaten.

At the control room, a man is on the phone and watching sludge filling up a tunnel.  He is talking to someone to meet him for a date.  The control room is at the methane power plant that runs the town, powered by cow manure.

Betsy Schenck meets the police at the church. She tells the police that Jesse is at her house and put a spell on Donnie.  After the cops leave, she unlocks the car.  Jesse, Tulip, and Donnie get out of the car and clean up the church.  Betsy observes the angel phone and she shows Jesse how to use it.

At the Sunday morning service, the church is packed as Cassidy make his way to the front.  Tulip hugs him and says she is happy to see him.   Everyone is there, even Tracy Loach.  When Jesse comes out, someone asks the sheriff if he’s going to arrest Jesse.

Odin steps up and takes over the sermon before Jesse can start.  He reminds everyone why they are there, Jesse is going to call God and bring him to the church so they can talk to him.   Odin tells everyone that theres only one god, the God of Meat.

Jesse gets the angel phone and everyone looks at him funny as he uses the dead angel hand to operate the phone.  As soon as the hand touches the phone it starts working.  Jesse presses some buttons and the phone makes some weird noises. Odin starts to interjects when the sun goes dark. Jesse says everything is all right, there’s nothing to be afraid of and a bright light shines into the church.

A white guy with a white beard in a white robe sitting on a throne appears and insists that he is the all powerful God. He asks why he has been summoned.  Jesse tells him that they have questions. God yells at them for questioning him.  Tulip steps forward and yells back. Jesse stops her.  God tries to say that he is God and that’s the only answer they need, but Jesse tells him it’s not enough.  God laughs at him and says ok, he will answer their questions.  The church starts asking a bunch of questions.  Odin stands up and asks if his daughter is there in heaven.  God answers yes.  God asks Jesse if he has any questions, Jesse asks what is God’s plan for Jesse.  God answers for Jesse to be a shepherd to the flock; to attend the flock and the church.  Jesse asks why he was given that power if he can’t save the people.  God says they are saved because Jesse brought them to him.  Jesse asks if Eugene is saved and God says yes.  Everyone is so happy and enlightened, even Tulip.

Then Jesse reveals that he sent Eugene to Hell. God asks how and Jesse tells him that it’s because of Genesis.  God tries to play it off, like he knew that and then asks for another questions.  Jesse calls him out saying the being in front of him is not God.  God insists that he is God…Jesse call him an imposter and uses his voice to ask where god is.  The fake God answers that he doesn’t know.  He says no one knows where god is; that God is missing.

God starts talking to people in the background saying that the preacher made him answer and the connection to heaven ends.

Jesse  tells Tulip and Cassidy “Let’s go” as Odin shouts for Jesse to denounce God.  Everyone is shocked by what just happened. They start leaving the church as Emily just starts playing the organ.  Later people are tearing up the church, including Odin

Emily reassures her kids that nothing has changed, their daddy is still in heaven and they don’t need god and they never did.  Five little girls kill the bus driver.  Mrs Loach kills Tracy.  Tom Cruise’s remains are sent into space.  Odin holds a piece of meat dressed in a girl’s coat.

The alarm goes off again in the methane plant control room as the manure fills up the tunnel.  The man who usually controls the pressure gauge is dead and his date is trying to stop the pressure.  A bunch of valves go off and the town explodes…leaving behind no survivors

Fiore returns to Texas, alone.

Jesse, Tulip and Cassidy are sitting in a diner.  Cassidy is complaining about The Big Lebowski…again.  Tulip asks what the plan is now, Jesse says to find God. Cassidy tired of God talk.  Jesse says he’s sick of the talk too so thats why they are going to go out and find him.  A road trip. Tulip asks what happens when they find him.  Jesse says if God wants their help, they will help him.  If not, the will kick his ass.

Jesse sees Eugene and tells him that he hasn’t forgotten about him.  He says they are going to get him out of Hell one way or another. Eugene says thank you.

Tulip asks Jesse what Genesis is.  He shows her by telling her to kiss him.  She does without hesitation.  Afterward, she punches Jesse telling him to never do that again.

Back in Annville, the Seraphim angel walks around looking at the damage.  Someone shots a hole in her chest, killing her. It’s The Cowboy from Hell.  His only word is “Preacher.”

The End

I am satisfied with where the episode went, especially when talking to God.  The most common idea of what God looks like is a white guy, with a long white beard, in a white robe, sitting on a throne.  So when I saw that, I knew it wasn’t really God, but its what the people of Annville expected…So that’s what they got.

I’m not satisfied with the fact with Eugene is still in Hell.  If Fiore and Deblanc were in Hell to hire The Cowboy, why couldn’t they have grabbed Eugene before coming back?  Then again, where is Deblanc?  Fiore came back alone…looking really sad.

And Emily!! I feel bad for Emily. She had the biggest crush on Jesse throughout the series, ever hopeful that he would return her feelings.  Only to be blown away in the end. In my opinion, Eugene and Emily were the angels on one of Jesse’s shoulders, while Tulip and Cassidy…mostly Tulip…were the devils on the other shoulder.  But now Emily is gone…R.I.P. Emily.

OK.  So we have a prequel…sort of…to the comics. We know who Jesse is, how he got his powers, why Tulip and Cassidy are with him and what their purpose is now that they are on the road.  We also have a villain in the Cowboy.  Season two should start where the comic book series starts.

On Talking Preacher, with Chris Hardwick, Sam Catlin said Season Two will be a quest for God.  As for Eugene, they might have to go to Hell to get him back, but Jesse is determined to find the real God. Seth Rogen mentioned that we can look forward to learning more about the Man in White as well.

Preacher Season One will be available on DVD and BluRay on October 4, 2016.

LFCC Presents “Suicide Squad” Costume Showcase

With Suicide Squad hitting cinema’s August 5th, London Film and Comic Con would be crazy to pass up on the chance to get involved – so this weekend, the con showcased all of the major costumes from the movie – the screen used, real deal costumes too.

Displayed in a penned off area, complete with giant cardboard cut outs, the costumes were displayed in glass cases, complete with manequinns shaped like the actors (including faces).

The costume show included Enchantress’s intricate and minimalist outfit, complete with completely creepy floor length black wig that we can only imagine wreaked havoc on poor Cara Delavingne’s (Paper Towns, Anna Karenina, Kids in Love) head.

Everyone’s favourite Harley Quinn, portrayed by Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street, Tarzan, Focus), was also present – this costume has many beautiful, detailed and intricate parts that the Con allowed you to see up close. This included the sparkly hot pants, belt, the fishnet tights, the high heeled sneaker style shoes, the jock-jacket – and, of course, the baseball bat.

Will Smith’s (I Am Legend, Men in Black, Independence Day) Deadshot was also there, complete with focus eye-piece, armour and weapons holsters. To also hold the line up included Captain Boomerang’s (Jai Courtney – Divergent, A Good Day to Die Hard, Terminator Genisys) costume, complete with lethal boomerangs, thick leather jacket and duct-taped up combat boots.

Costumes also featured included Katana’s (Karen Fukuhara – Suicide Squad), Killer Croc’s (Adewake Akinnuoye-Adbaje – The Bourne Identity, Thor: The Dark World, Lost), Diablo’s (Jay Hernandez – Hostel, Quarantine, The Rookie), and last but not least, Jared Leto’s (Panic Room, Requiem for a Dream, Dallas Buyers Club) The Joker – complete with suit, and jewel-encrusted cane.

To round off this amazing display is a giant cardboard cut out of the entire cast – with a gap large enough to fit pleased Comic Con attendees who want to chance to pose with the anti-heroes before they hit the big screen.

It’s clear from the incredible display, which allows you to be as up-close and personal to the costumes without touching them, that the costume designers on this movie put a lot of heart, thought, effort and a tonne of fun into creating individual and unique pieces that completely fit their characters.

‘Game of Thrones’ Kristian Nairn Found Out Hodor’s Fate from Finn Jones!

**This post will contain spoilers for Season 6 of Game of Thrones**

London Film and Comic Con has graced Olympia once again for 2016, and came with plenty of guests – including a huge chunk of cast members from Game of Thrones – even those no longer with us.

Joining fans this weekend at LFCC were Jack Gleeson (Batman Begins, All Good Children), Ellie Kendrick (An Education, Bloodworks, Misfits ), Kristian Nairn (The Four Warriors, Treasure Trapped, Ripper Street), Donald Sumpter (In the Heart of the Sea, Jekyll and Hyde, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Natalia Tena (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, About a Boy, 10. 000 Km), Kae Alexander (Bad Education, Bloodworks, One of Us), Gemma Whelan (The Wolfman, Gulliver’s Travels, Hetty Feather), Joe Naufahu (Spartacus, The Last Saint, Go Girls), Daniel Portman (Outcast, The Angels’ Share), Sam Coleman (Leatherface), Faye Marsay (Pride, Need for Speed, The White Queen), Richard Brake (Batman Begins, Spy, Hannibal Rising) and Anton Lesser (The Girl in the Cafe, Miss Potter, Endeavour).

For the “LFCC Big Game of Thrones Talk”, the actors who were able to join the panel were Gleeson, Kendrick, Nairn, Gemma, Faye, Coleman, Portman and Lesser. After a brief introduction from the LFCC hosts, the mics were handed to the fans for questions from the floor.

Firstly, Sam Coleman, the Young Hodor, didn’t realise the part he’d been given. When he was given the part of an extra, he was excited as an outside fan of the show. Then he looked at his pay for the role and exclaimed “Crikey, that’s a lot for some extra role!” – and then he discovered exactly who he’d be. He said to be given the part was “a real privilege” and he hoped he did the character proud – which Coleman indeed did to, with the incredibly touching and tragic scene combining the reveal of Hodor’s past with the present in which he sacrifices himself for Bran. Clearly the panel also thought so, because his answer earns a massive round of applause.

Kristian Nairn takes the next question, being “Will Hodor return, either from the dead or as a White Walker?” – he heartbreakingly, but definitely answers that Hodor will not be returning. He then goes on to say that Hodor had “the perfect death, and it was exatly how he deserved to go” – so he hopes it isn’t sullied by Hodor returning, especially as a White Walker, but perhaps he’ll make some appearences in Bran’s flashbacks again.

The cast are then asked that age old question that everyone involved in Game of Thrones, from cast to fan are asked – who woud hold the Iron Throne? Kristian comes back with a unique answer that, after the years of horrendous ruling under the hands of conflicted and unprepared rules, he would like someone with some intergrity to hold the Iron Throne – and that’s why he would love to see Brienne of Tarth on the throne. Whilst not incredibly likely (though honestly, who knows.), it’s a new answer I’ve heard!

Meanwhile, Sam Coleman also comes up with a unique idea – to “scrap the phone, have a democracy – and Pod for Prime Minister!” – to which Daniel Portman delighted screams “YES!!!” Further shocks ensue as Jack Gleeson, the series most infamous little shit Joffery Baratheon, agrees with the motion, and wants Podrick for Prime Minister. I’d have to say, the UK could benefit from such democracy at this time…

When asked how they responded to their characters fates, the cast go on to joke about the Show Runners and the dreaded Phone Call that cast members have gotten to discuss their characters fate. However, unluckily for Kristian, he bumped into Finn Jones (Iron Fist, Sleeping Beauty, Life in Squares) and jokingly asked “So, did I make it?” – to which, Finn is completely unable to come up with an answer, and answers the question himself. So, at least the world now knows if you want some Game of Thrones spoilers, Finn Jones is your man.

“What is the strangest conspiracy theory you’ve ever heard about your character?” is the next question – and whilst only two have answers, they’re good ones. Faye Marsay, who played the utterly terrifying Waif in Game of Thrones (her common scenes were her tormenting Arya Stark, including hitting her with a stick after she was blinded for her training), answers that she heard an amazing theory that The Waif and Arya were the same person, a la Fight Club. However, given The Waif’s end at the hands of the youngest Stark, this theory is very much not true. But, it is interesting and easy to see why this theory would have some traction.

Jack Gleeson then chimes it “I heard this crazy rumour that, Cersei and Jamie are my real parents.” Over the laughter and cheers of the crowd he shrugs and shakes his head, exclaiming “it’s just crazy, the things people will make up, they must have a lot of free time.”

The cast all also apparently have the same question we do – how do we follow such an amazing finale from Season 6? All the cast mutually agree that Season 6 had the strongest season finale of the entire show, and that every moment, the script, the acting, the directing, the music and the plot, is flawless and amazing – and each and everyone of them are just as excited as their fans are to see how Season 7 plans to top 6×10.

When asked their theories on where Cersei (who is referred to as a Disney Witch by Kristian) will be in Season 7, the cast had some great (and potential spoiler dodging) answers, including;

“I don’t know.” (Faye), “To Hell!” (Alexandra Kae), “I don’t care what happens, as long as I survive” (Ellie Kendrick), “In the Ground” (Daniel) and finally, Sam theorises that Cersei will be crushed between a wall of frost and fire – wildly appropriate for a show based on a book series called A Song of Ice and Fire.

Finally, the cast are asked a dangerous question – “who do you think is next?”, meaning, the next to die. And the cast all nervously give the same response – they don’t know. And as it could be anybody, they don’t want to say it and be accused of giving spoilers in advance if it happens to who they mention. The tension is then broken by Kristian with “Jon Snow already died, didn’t he?”

Overall, the panel was extremely engaging and fun for Game of Thrones fans – with the cast, both recurring and no longer with us, still so invested in the show as much as the fans are, the show and characters are in the safest (loose word.) hands possible. And given the air date for Season 7 being pushed back so it can take place closer to Winter to fit the shows theme of “Winter is Here”, chances are we will see this cast again before that day – but hopefully Finn Jones won’t be present to tell us all the fates of the characters.

Karl Urban Shows Off New Look For Thor: Ragnarok

So the people who attended SDCC have already been treated to an early look at Thor: Ragnarok via a comical mockumentary alongside images of Thor and Lokis new looks.

No clips of this have yet to leak onto the internet so it looks as though Marvel did a good job of making sure this did not happen. Attendees were also treated to a look at Hulks planet hulk armour this did make it online and was covered by myself in a previous article which can be found here Surtur Confirmed For Thor Ragnarok

Karl Urban released his new look via his Facebook page with the caption “Less is more for Thor” and it shows that he has gone bald for his role as Skurge The Executioner. 

In the comics Skurge is originally an Asgadrian Super-villain who carried out Loki’s dirty work with a magic double-bladed battle axe, but turned good guy to help delay Ragnarok (The Norse apocalypse).

We have not been told how Skurge will fit into the Thor: Ragnarok story line yet but I’m sure we will find out more once the next batch of information on the film is released.

Thor: Ragnarok is due to hit Cinemas in the UK on July 28th 2017.

Who Will Survive Negan’s Bat On The Walking Dead?

A question that is on many minds of fans of The Walking Dead is: Who was killed by Negan?, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan (The Good Wife, Supernatural). Sorry I can’t tell you that and even if I knew I wouldn’t tell you. Yes, I am that mean. But we can all find out on Sunday the 23rd of October because then The Walking Dead will return on AMC for it’s 7th season.

For those who want to take a sneak peek of what is about to come here is the trailer for season 7. As always watch at your own risk.

At SDCC  Gimple told the audience that “they spared no drop of awfulness, no iota of misery, no scintilla of pain”  when filming season 7. Truth be told it doesn’t sound good for what is about to come. It makes me anxious for season 7 even though I am not fully caught up with season 6 yet. Luckily I still have some time to catch up.

However I have caught some glimpses of what or who is to survive at least for a while in season 7. I am pretty sure Lucille, Negan’s beloved barbed-wired bat, will survive. (Sorry had to go there.) If you are to follow the comics (did not know that there was a comic of The Walking Dead until recently), Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs) are pretty safe for now. And I use safe loosely because with walkers and Negan around who is really safe.

As for the others I really can’t say. They have shot 11 different versions of the bludgeoning by Negan’s bat as to avoid spoilers from leaking. I must say they are quite successful in keeping the fatality a secret. Not a hint in the panels at SDCC. So we will just have to wait and see on the 23rd of October who will meet there ill-fate by Lucille.

Jeremy Renner has “Some Really Cool Ideas” for Hawkeye in the Future

Friday 29th July – Sunday 31st July 2016 were the official dates of one of London’s biggest and most anticipated conventions – London Film and Comic Con. The Con has played host to some massive names in both the comic book and movie world, and this year was no different, with guests such as various members of the Game of Thrones cast, Famke Janssen (How to Get Away with Murder, X-Men, Hemlock Grove), Jeremy Renner (Thor, The Hurt Locker, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol) and several wrestlers, artists and tv/movie stars.

This Saturday featured a panel for Jeremy Renner, with a brief introduction and a few questions from the host – then the rest of the panel was taken to the floor for fan questions.

During these questions, Renner said that he still doesn’t consider himself an action hero. Despite his role as an avenger in the Marvel Studios releases, and his role in a Bourne movie (The Bourne Legacy), Renner says he always prefers the human side of his roles, and doesn’t focus on the action side of things. He then jokingly adds that he agreed to the role of Hawkeye because “he doesn’t fly around, have a suit, armour or lightening arrow – he has no friggin’ superpowers! I can do that!”

Upon being asked the question, would he consider a Bourne crossover with Matt Damon, Renner nodded eagerly and said he’d absolutely love to – but that unfortunately, a decision like this is out of his pay grade.

He also emphasised (when asked if he’s pressured by agents or producers to take particular roles) “I do what I wanna do, always.” He also mentioned that he has no favourite roles he’s ever played as he doesn’t believe in it. Renner says that every role is his favourite role (“or I wouldn’t have taken the job.)

When Jeremy was asked what his most difficult role to play was, he answers without hesitation that it was Jeffery Dahmer (Dahmer, 2002). “It was completely terrifying.” He says, talking sincerely about how difficult it was to get into that sort of headspace when he himself can barely comprehend the horrific crimes that Dahmer committed. He mentions how he worked incredibly hard to find a “way in” to that role, into that human’s headspace, and how he had to find the psychological way in to play him convincingly. And it certainly worked – the film holds mostly mixed to positive reviews, praising Renner for his performance.

On the topic of weirdness, Renner also explains that his strangest fan encounter (“It’s like picking a favourite role. I have a lot of these odd experiences.”) took place at a urinal – involving the person trying to take a selfie with them both at the urinal, and saying “But it’s for my son man!” – Renner says that the statement made the whole thing weirder. So he began using cubicles instead to try and retain privacy, which doesn’t always work. “I see this hand, coming up under the cubicle door, with an iPhone in it. And man.” Renner laughs, all good natured and lively.

A fan then puts their hand up and asks which life he’d prefer his character in The Avengers to live – the stay-at-home family man, or as the hero? Jeremy pauses, then grins and goes “Did you just ask me how I wanna die?” As the crowd laughs, Renner cuts in with “Dies a hero or daddy has a heart attack at home? Come on man!” – and then he says he hasn’t seen Captain America: Civil War yet and asks”Do I die in that?”

Renner then goes on to say that he loves playing Hawkeye, and confesses to the crowd that his role in the first Avenger’s movie (The Avengers/Avenges Assemble), actually made him incredible frustrated. “I was so excited to play this character and then he gets made into a lifeless zombie for the whole movie” – as a result of this, Renner had barely any room to find out more about Clint Barton. He says he prefers the later movies, such as Age of Ultron and Captain America: Civil War as he had much more screen-time and humanity to explore for the character.

The actor then laughs and says he isn’t done playing Hawkeye yet, so he doesn’t want him to die – he’s got “some real cool, real awesome” ideas coming up (earning a round of applause) – “amazing ways to die.” he quips, nodding to the fan who asked the initial question.

Asked if there’s any chance of a Hawkeye solo movie, Renner responds “it’d be kinda cool – but I don’t make those decisions” – sorry, Hawkeye fans! But maybe a Netflix series..?

Renner is asked more questions about his creative future. When asked if he always wants to just be an actor, or if he’d like to direct, Renner nods very eagerly. He explains he’d love to direct a movie – but when his baby (Ava Berlin) is older. His reason being it’s a huge commitment – that you have to be there “before, during the whole process, there for editing and the cutting room floor, and then all the press and premieres after” – and he wants to wait because his baby comes first.

Finally, the last question of the day is a fan who asks what we’re all waiting for – what more do we have to look forward to from Jeremy Renner? The actor responds that he’s currently working on a science-fiction movie with Amy Adams (Enchanted, American Hustle, Man of Steel) named Arrival. He explains it should be coming out in November, and that it’s a smart, thoughtful and very accessible alien movie, and that he’s very excited for the release.

Overall, it was a very informative and fun panel – despite doing hours worth of photo-shoots with fans in the morning and the afternoon, Jeremy Renner remains active, engaging and totally polite to his fans. He’s been a fantastic addition to the weekend line-up, and fingers crossed he comes back for another year!

On the 19th of Aug Netflix will are an original documentary “I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead’ – The life of Steve Aoki, the documentary will coincide with the 20th anniversary celebrations of globally renowned Dim Mak records. I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead takes a enthralling look into the life and mind of one of dance music’s most hardworking, captivating, controversial and Grammy-nominated character Steve Aoki. The documentary premiered at this years Tribeca film festival in New York City and it features cameo appearances from the likes of world tastemakers Diplo, Blink 182’s Travis Barker & Pete Tong.

Shot during the making of Aoki’s Neon Future double album and follow him on his journey in the lead-up to playing the biggest show of his career at Madison Square Garden. I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead examines the driving force behind Aoki’s passion, it also looks into his complex yet loving relationship with his father Rocky Aoki, a daredevil showman, former Olympian and Benihana founder. The documentary also follows the story of one of the most prestigious record labels from the ground up. Dim Mak Records was founded by Aoki in 1996 and has broken bands such as Bloc Party, The Bloody Beetroots, Klaxons, and The Gossip and has also put out over 500 releases to date.

I’ll Sleep when I’m Dead is directed by Justin Krook and is a adrenaline-fueled yet heart wrenching doco about one of the most eminent DJs of today. From producers David Geld (Chef’s Table, Jiro Dreams of Sushi), Matthew Weaver (Rock of Ages), Matt Colon, Happy Walters, Executive Producer Michael Mailis and Co-Producer Susan Wrubel.
