Transformers: Combiner Wars – Official Trailer Released At San Diego Comic Con

With San Diego Comic Con well underway perhaps one of the stories I was waiting for the most was about Transformers: Combiner Wars.  You can read about my previous article and thoughts on the show here.

The trailer was announced and released at San Diego Comic Con, although it may not have the same mainstream appeal as the Luke Cage, Daredevil or Iron Fist news. For die hard Transformer fans like myself this was possibly the most important bit of news to come out of the event.

What were my thoughts on the trailer? Starscream as leader as the Decepticons? Rodimus Prime as the Autobots? YES!!! Big ol beasty combiners like Menasor? DOUBLE YES!!!!

Dare I be as bold to say I think this will be the second best series since the classic and original G1 Transformers? Yes, yes I do!

Transformers: Combiner Wars will be out on August 2nd 2016.

Marvel And Netflix Announce Daredevil Season 3 At San Diego Comic Con

Daredevil fans rejoice after months of speculation as to will they or wont they. Marvel and Netflix FINALLY confirmed the news yesterday at San Diego Comic Con that Daredevil will be returning for a third series.

The news was confirmed by  Joe Quesada on the Marvel panel where they discussed other topics such as Luke Cage and Iron Fist.

There has been much speculation as to whether the show would return for a third series, many fans will agree that the second series was a further development from the first introducing us to characters such as The Punisher and Elektra. Who could we expect to see in the third series? One could only speculate.

Marvel’s Iron Fist Trailer Released At San Diego Comic Con

 

Marvel fans rejoice! The much anticipated trailer for Netflix’s new show Iron Fist has been released. The trailer was released by Marvel at San Diego Comic Con and the new series stars Game Of Thrones actor Finn Jones (Loras Tyrell) as Danny Rand.

Who or what is Iron Fist aka Danny Rand? He is a billionaire Buddhist monk who’s father Wendell discovers the mystical city of K’un-L’un. Whilst in the city Wendell saves the city’s rulers life (Lord Tuan). Flash forward 10 years and Wendell takes his wife and young son Daniel on an expedition to the city and the story of Iron Fist is born!

Well you didn’t think I was going to give you all the spoilers did you? You’ll have to watch the show to find out more 😛

Conan Returns To San Diego Comic Con

Conan (no, not the Barbarian) has arrived at  San Diego Comic Con! Yes, the popular host of talk show Conan, has brought the show, lock stock and Andy Richter, to interview a slew guests for your daily dose of hilarity. The Con (an) schedule started on Wednesday, July 2o with the cast of Silicon Valley: Thomas Middleditch, Kuammil Nanjiani, Zach Woods and Martin Starr.

Everything Is Awesome, New LEGO Batman Movie Pictures Released

 

Warner Bros. have released some new images for the upcoming LEGO Movie spinoff The LEGO Batman Movie. The new pictures feature Michael Cera’s Robin and Zach Galifianakis‘ Joker.

I have no idea why the Joker has stolen Jaws’ teeth:

And he doesn’t look as bad as Robin, who has a pair of awful goggles that make him look more like Velma Dinkley than Dick Grayson:

Who am I to criticise LEGO though? I’m sure they know what they’re doing; they have already proven themselves in the movie business with The LEGO Movie and Will Arnett’s Batman was one of the best things about that film. There is absolutely no way they could mess up an idea as awesome as this one, unless Lord Business has somehow managed to seize creative control.

The LEGO Batman Movie comes out on the 10th February in 2017, directed by Chris McKay (Robot Chicken). Phil Lord and Chris Miller are returning as producers.  The official synopsis reads:

In the irreverent spirit of fun that made “The LEGO® Movie” a worldwide phenomenon, the self-described leading man of that ensemble – LEGO Batman – stars in his own big-screen adventure: “The LEGO® Batman Movie.” But there are big changes brewing in Gotham, and if he wants to save the city from The Joker’s hostile takeover, Batman may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up.

In a quote from USA Today, Director Chris McKay said “The Joker sees himself on the same level as Batman, a peer, at the top of the game. But Batman says that’s not the case, which sends Joker into a spiral trying to prove to Batman that he is indeed the greatest enemy,”.  In the same article the Joker’s car is described as ‘The Joker’s General Patton car, where he can survey the battle’.

Chris McKay has also revealed some details on Robin, who is accidentally adopted by Batman at a charity auction and is referred to by the director as a ‘super-positive kid who always sees the glass as half full’.

The LEGO Batman Movie is being alluded to as ‘About A Boy, as directed by Michael Mann‘. Perhaps it’s not too late to get Hugh Grant to voice The Riddler?

 

Daredevil SN1 EP9 – ‘ Speak Of The Devil ‘

This review does contain spoilers. You’ve been warned.

From the opening moment of Daredevil being hit in the face, this episode makes it clear that it will hit viewers head on and not back down. These fight scenes between the devil and a Japanese assailant are inter-cut between the main plot. Matt is facing another crisis – he knows he has to take out Fisk for the good of the city however he has another dilemma not just from a legal standpoint but from his faith. Murdock talking with his priest offer great emotional intensity and create conflict.

Matt tries to bring down Kingpin both in and out of costume. Ben Urich approaches them with an article that exposes Fisk. However, Murdock knows there has to be some validation or Fisk will have a libel case. So we do see scenes of Matt working undercover as Matt, which is a unique touch. The plot about Nelson and Murdock trying to tackle Fisk legally works because Karen and Foggy have a little more action after feeling like side characters in so many episodes. They have more emotional stakes as they are coping with the death of Elena, one of their first clients. She died because of Fisk’s poorly built houses which is giving them a little more legal standing. Unfortunately for them, Fisk is still able to put on his public facade.

Daredevil is in action. As the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen, Matt circumvents the law – as he does – to track down the men Kingpin is working with. This leads to the aforementioned BRUTAL fight. The assassin wields a weapon which tears Matt apart – plenty of blood is shown. We even see someone set on fire! Adding injury to injury, the Devil has his first one-on-one battle with Kingpin. This is not some climatic battle of honor – Kingpin mercilessly whales on the Devil in another gruesome battle with Matt just barely escaping after taking some serious hits. The cherry on the sundae is that after everything this episode ends on a huge cliffhanger with Foggy discovering Matt under the mask.

This episode is just the total package – great psychology and character development. The action scenes are intense and it builds suspense for the next episode.

A Look Back At Season 1 Of Mr.Robot

We have all had that feeling of being watched. Seeing something that isn’t there, perhaps hearing a little voice saying “you can” or “you can’t.” Mr.Robot the drama filled Emmy nominated show takes those things and cranks it up to high voltage. A young man named Elliot, an introverted schizophrenic hacker, who believes he can save the world with the redistribution of power amongst the middle and lower class by hacking. Fueled by revenge and not knowing the difference between illusion and reality. Fighting a drug addiction and everyday bi-polar tendencies. If your brain doesn’t like to think this is not a show for you.

In Season 1 without giving away too many spoilers we go on a rollercoaster through the minds of Elliot and his closest group consisting of family/friends and possibly… his already deceased father. He sees his father in the flesh (which nobody else can see) guiding him through his next move and purpose in life. Disagreeing through stages but ultimately having the same goal in mind…..hacking the “invisible hand.” The creator Sam Esmail does a fantastic job of blurring reality with fiction, along with good and evil. Questions about the daily system in life with rules we HAVE to follow. Elliot creates a hacker group known as FSOCIETY which gets him and his peers into some serious trouble on numerous occasions which only Houdini would be able to escape.

Elliot works for a company called AllSafe as an IT guy. His childhood friend Angela works at AllSafe as well. Angela and Elliot became friends as a result of Angela’s Mom and Elliot’s Dad (Mr.Robot) losing a battle with leukemia from radiation, both working at a company referred to as Evil Corp. Ironically a majority of the profit/jobs that keeps AllSafe a company is from Evil Corp. Angela does not really understand the hacker independent side of Elliot fully quite yet which causes some rumbles in their friendship. Elliot wants to save the world by hacking but how far did he go? Will he ever have control of Mr.Robot?

Below is a character description based on Season 1 of Mr.Robot

Elliot Alderson (Rami Malek) – A schizophrenic introverted hacker trying to get revenge for his father’s death with a heart to save the world. Works at AllSafe as an IT guy. Created a hacker group called FSOCIETY to take credit for his hacks. The line of illusion and reality is very blurred for him as a result of a cloudy memory. Addiction has controlled him throughout rough times in his life. Father died from leukemia as a result of radiation from working at Evil Corp. One of the reasons I love this show is because I relate a lot to Elliot. That feeling of not knowing why you have certain thoughts and visions. Wanting so bad to help the world but not knowing how. Elliot wearing a hoodie all the time is a character I have kind of always dreamt of playing if I was an actor and let’s be honest sometimes we don’t know the difference between good and evil or if it even exists. If there was ever a character I wish I created it is Elliot Alderson. Not to mention his awesome hacking skills!

Angela Moss (Portia Doubleday) – Childhood friend whose mother also died from leukemia as a result of radiation from working at Evil Corp. Works at AllSafe with Elliot also in the IT department. Craves recognition from doing a good job. Breaks up with a boyfriend named Ollie who was cheating on her. Not much confidence in herself, doesn’t take many risks. Cares a lot about Elliot and tries to look after him. Angela seems like the girl who never gets in trouble and can’t take criticism when she does. That girl who is pretty and is too good for anybody. Ultimately I can see Elliot and Angela becoming rivals in a way and going in different directions. To me Angela shops at Hollister and drinks Starbucks everyday which number 2 on her priority list right after, always being right. I would date her for about one month until her true colors were revealed.

Darlene (Carly Chaikin) – *Spoiler* Elliot’s sister. Also a part of the hacking group FSOCIETY. Hates big corporations and upper class. Wants to divide the power equally amongst everyone. A girl who says what she wants with no filter. Darlene does seem to be impatient and having a problem with the word “No.” At times takes matter into her own hands. Understands Elliot as best as anybody could I guess. Definitely comes off as the ticking time bomb type. In one scene she even complains about her boyfriend proposing to her and how disrespectful it was! The loud and obnoxious type who will make a scene and quickly find 1,001 excuses as to why she did. Not the girlfriend type in my educated opinion.

Tyrell Wellick (Martin Wallström) – Employee at Evil Corp who loses his job after questioning about a murder. Will do anything to become the permanent CTO of Evil Corp. Pays money to a homeless man to release anger. Had sex with a guy just to better his position in the company. Tyrell caught onto Elliot’s antics right from the beginning and knows he is up to something big. Snake like personality. This is a character who is very interesting and not necessarily a “by the book” type of guy. Sometimes I see him as too much and going overboard but with all the thinking in this show, it is refreshing to see someone who just goes about their business to get what they want. It confuses me when he has such a gorgeous wife (Joanna) who will let him do whatever he wants to her and he chooses to beat up homeless guys and party at a gay club just to move in the job rankings.

Joanna Wellick (Stephanie Corneliussen) – Wife of Tyrell Wellick. Believes that everyone has a strength/weakness to exploit. Becomes curious of Tyrell’s antics as he is not 100% honest with her. Pregnant with Tyrell’s baby. She allows Tyrell to do whatever he needs to gain the job of CTO. Joanna has a fetish in the bedroom with a rape-like scenario being her turn on. Stands by Tyrell no matter what. Aside from being gorgeous, Joanna is also a character I want to know more about. She is kind of mysterious and keeps to herself. Joanna has been calm throughout the whole show and I am wondering if she will ever have that exploding moment. I think there is always something deeper but as viewers we will just have to see if she is hiding everything or nothing?

White Rose (Bradley Darryl Wong) – A transgender prestigious hacker helping fsociety. White Rose is very mysterious character which we as the viewer do not know much about. The only rule White Rose seems to have is being on time with deadlines. *Spoiler Alert* Works with head of Evil Corp Phillip Price on some sort of basis. White Rose is an amazing character to me because of the weirdness and unique style of rules he/she brings to the table. Why is time so important to this particular creation from Sam Esmail. I believe something big is in the works between White Rose, Evil Corp and Elliot Alderson.

Phillip Price (Michael Cristofer) – CEO of Evil Corp. Shows no emotion or remorse. Believes in the “it is what it is” mantra. Very conniving and has a way with words. In a very creepy way makes you feel comfortable when talking to him. Power Hungry with a switch to be a chameleon to whatever type of setting he is in. This guy is definitely your typical corporate villain. Somebody who I hate as well. I don’t understand who a person has no reaction especially after tragedy. He seems a bit too laid back for a CEO in my opinion and besides the fact that I believe he would nuke his own house if he had the chance, why is he working with White Rose? Something smells fishy with him and I don’t like it one bit.

Mr. Robot (Christian Slater) – Eliot’s Dad. Died from leukemia in a radiation occurrence from working at Evil Corp. Comes back as Eliot’s voice in his head but as a physical presence which only Eliot can see. Controls Eliot’s next move and has revengeful taste to destroy Evil Corp and anything in his way. Protective of his family especially Eliot. Wants to “save the world’ through Eliot’s hacks. Mr.Robot aside from Elliot is also one of my favorites. I love how he backs up every decision with facts and motivating speeches. Telling you straight up how the world really is and we all need to Wake Up! I don’t think he would out his son Elliot into any danger he knew he couldn’t handle. But why is trying to manipulate Elliot so aggressively to do what he wants. Another masterfully presented actor I am truly jealous of.

*Spoilers Ahead* Turn Back NOW!

At the end of the season, after the big hack takes place and we discover Mr.Robot is Elliot this whole time, we are left with many questions. Why is Tyrell Wellick wanted by the F.B.I.? Where is Tyrell Wellick? How is the world going to recover after all the debt in the world has vanished into thin air? Will Elliot ever get caught? How come Mr.Robot controls Elliot? These are just a few of the zillion question marks leaving us hanging after Season One. Sam Esmail thank you for creating such a masterful television show. Mr. Robot is by far my favorite show in recent memory not counting cartoons or comics. My brain hurts from waiting every week for the next episode of Mr.Robot.

OUAT Casting News: Morpheus Comes to Storybrooke

I was already very excited for the OUAT Season 6 Premiere in September, then they went and announced that Morpheus is coming to Storybrooke.  Morpheus is the Greek god of dreams and sleep… ya know, the one they named the drug morphine after.  According to mythology, Morpheus could appear in any human form in a sleeper’s dreams and shape and guide them.  So, the speculative guess is that Morpheus is going to help Rumple with his Sleeping Belle problem.

28 year old, English-Australian actor Giles Matthey has been cast in the role of Morpheus.  Matthey is best know for his roles in 24, True Blood, and NCIS.  His first acting job was back in 2011 in CBS’ The Good Wife.

I can’t wait to see where the OUAT writers take this story line this season, but let’s not forget the whole Untold Stories arc.  Rumors are going around that we might even see Aladdin and Jasmine this season.

‘Production company ‘Emergency Room’ release new British-Comedy Web Series ‘Gazelle: Le Petit Chien’.

‘Gazelle: Le Petit Chien’ is a mockumentary web series following French cosmetics inventor Gazelle La France as she attempts to launch her new lipstick, ‘Le Petit Chien’ in the UK, whilst her step-daughter Samantha suspects all is not as it seems.

Inspired by Edina Monsoon and Patsy Stone from the BBC’s ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ and Jill Tyrell of BBC3’s ’Nighty Night’, the titular character Gazelle La France is truly a force to be reckoned with.

The entire first series has now been released and a second series is currently in pre-production and the company will be crowd funding to make it even bigger than the first series.
