Jimmy Fallon got to play the Switch and now I’m even more excited!

https://i1.wp.com/cdn.bgr.com/2016/12/jimmy-fallon-nintendo-switch.jpg

The Nintendo Switch has been shown a few times now but not in all its glory. We have also only seen pre-rendered images of the games.

On Wednesday Jimmy Fallon had Reggie File, Bill Trinen, and Shigeru Miyamoto on. They talked about Super Mario Run and revealed a trailer for that. Miyamoto even played the Mario Theme with the Roots.

But the biggest part of the night was what was hiding under a yellow Mario block. Reggie lofted it up and there it was the Switch! He played a little Breath of the Wild and then let Jimmy have a turn.

The pure joy that showed on Jimmy’s face was beyond exciting. Clearly he was dying to play this and why wouldn’t he be? I cannot wait to experience the unbridled joy of playing the Nintendo Switch for the first time.

Breath of the Wild looks amazing and when it comes out it will surely be a hit. I cannot wait for its release and seeing this whole bit on Fallon my hype levels are even higher. Good thing we get to learn more about the Switch on January 12th!

Ghostbusters star Leslie Jones wants a role in Deadpool 2

“I want to be in Deadpool. I could be smart mouth sidekick. And my power would be loudness!!!”

This was tweeted by Leslie Jones Ryan Reynolds himself. She is actually pushing for a role in the Deadpool world, though she may not be serious on the character, she really wants this to happen. Her time in the comedy world, like being a veteran on the hit TV show Saturday night live, does gives her a boost in the right direction for a role like this.

Though it seems that they may already have the cast of who is going to be in the movie and a release date for January 2018, I think they could squeeze her in somewhere as a cameo right? Or maybe at least contact her for a future Deadpool movie. ^_^

The ‘Survivor: Millennials Vs Gen-X’ Review – “Slayed The Survivor Dragon”

If there was a review to miss, perhaps last weeks illness worked in my favour considering Wills story dovetailed nicely into the first of tonight’s eliminations.

Isn’t it funny how Wills ‘Big Move’ last week was in order to gain a winning resume only for him to become the forgotten number in this weeks meager first half? And that’s not forgetting that his moment was totally overshadowed by Adam’s miss-play of his Hidden Immunity Idol for Hannah anyway, so was the move really worth it?

It has to stated that Will’s move last week was in no way a ‘wining move‘ and I don’t know if the Survivor Producers were trying to give us a “Will is controlling his destiny” edit or what but Will came off as a massive douche in the first half of this episode. Especially considering he gains almost no credibility for voting out Zeke last week besides a massive target on his back and yet he believes he is running the game because of it.

Had he not been paying attention?

To say he annoyed me more than Fig-Tails is an accomplishment given the little airtime he received. That being said, the guy left with a smile on his face and no ill will (oh that was pun-tastic, c’mon) for being blind sided, so major props has to be given there.

I might be in the minority when it comes to enjoying double Tribal Council episodes but guys, we are 33 seasons in at this point. Rarely does daily island struggle bear much fruit – besides the odd Goat Hunting scene – anymore so the quicker we can get to Immunity Challenges (and less Reward Challenges pleeeease) and straight to pre-Tribal scrambling the better. Perhaps not every week but with Thanksgiving and this amongst some of the best episodes this season, it’s got to count for something.

Everyone pretty much got their time to shine tonight besides Sunday, whose elimination episode played out like the rest of her game, not being shown. But Adam and Jays love-hate bromance has quickly become my highlight of the season.

I’m living for their discussions when Jay tells Adam that he “hates” him for making him play his idol. The dichotomy that exists in their relationship where they both know they have to work together while also knowing that it’ll be a tough ask for either of them to win against each other in the end, is delicious to watch.

So when Adam’s reveal of his moms lung cancer secret to Jay, it only further compacted this pairs complicated friendship. Adding depth to a Survivor season that all to often is overlooked in favour of narrow storytelling.

To say I’m rooting for those two to make it to end is an understatement but with Jay’s Idol play tonight. I just don’t think it’s going to happen.

Arrow SN5 E9 – What We Leave Behind

Welcome back to your weekly recap of our favourite Star City vigilante, the Green Arrow, as he tries to save his city . Today’s episode is Episode 9 of Season 5, titled What We Leave Behind.

Evelyn, aka Artemis, meets Prometheus at his lair to relay further information about Team Arrow. She gives him pictures to join the ones already on the wall —Oliver, Felicity, Diggle, Thea, Rory, Curtis, Rene and Quentin who is already crossed off.

Thea hosts a Christmas party, upholding the Queen’s legacy of killer Christmas parties. Oliver attends along with Susan Williams, Curtis and his husband, and Felicity and Billy. Just when Curtis and his husband leave the building, Prometheus attacks them outside. Curtis ends up injected with a tuberculosis drug developed by the deceased Justin Claybourne. In flashbacks we see Oliver killing Claybourne along with his employees, after discovering he was responsible for creating the tuberculosis epidemic then raising the price of the drug to gain more profit.

Felicity manages to track down Prometheus’ location so the team heads over. Oliver gets trapped with Prometheus and fights him, while the rest of the team scrambles to get to them. Rene and Artemis manage to reach the fighting pair, but Artemis shoots the gun out of Rene’s hand, revealing her true loyalty. Artemis escapes with Prometheus leaving the team reeling from her betrayal.

Billy, behind Felicity’s back, investigates a lead on Prometheus on his own. In a dimly lit office he discovers a picture of a baby, he quickly texts a shot of it to Felicity just before he is captured. Felicity tries her best to find out about the baby using facial recognition, uncovering information that the baby is Claybourne’s illegitimate son. Prometheus is seeking revenge for Oliver killing his father.

Oliver realizes, while accompanied by Speedy, that Prometheus is now probably at Claybourne’s building. He goes alone to confront Prometheus, hoping to end it once and for all. When he enters, Oliver finds the building staged with police officer bodies to resemble how he killed Claybourne and all his employees. He finally sees Prometheus, standing where Oliver killed his father.

The two fight, falling over the side of the building, ending up on the floor one story below. Prometheus disappears in the room which he’s filled with mirrors, but taunts Oliver as he moves around looking for him. He sees Prometheus’ body outline and shoots through the mirror killing him. Approaching the mobile body he realizes that the man dressed as Prometheus was staged as well, a weapon taped to his hand, unable to speak out. Oliver pulls off the man’s mask, revealing Billy. Dead.

Oliver confesses to Felicity, back in the Arrow cave, what happened to Billy. She doesn’t blame Oliver, knowing it was Prometheus who tricked him. The team leaves for the night. Felicity goes home to mourn Billy, Curtis’ husband leaves him because he knows Curtis won’t quit being a vigilante, and Oliver goes to Susan’s house to talk. Returning to the Arrow cave later, Oliver sees someone standing still, looking over their suits on the wall. She turns around to face Oliver. Laurel Lance is alive.

Arrival Review

arrival_movie_poster

Arrival is one of many films to answer the question of what would happen if aliens came to Earth. In Arrival, the aliens land in several spots on the globe. Nobody can make heads or tails out of the way the aliens talk so linguist Louise Banks is called in to communicate with the extraterrestrials. Because the aliens are located all over the world, every country has different has different reactions. Louise – working with the US military – needs to figure out to communicate with the aliens before war breaks out.

A big part of the movie is about language – so Arrival dives into some provocative ideas about how language works and how it affects the way people think. For example, because the aliens communicate in a certain way, their entire way of thinking is different from humans (Or perhaps it’s the other way around – the kind of thinking this movie provides). The aliens use written communication that has no lateral comparison to any earthly language. Watching how they have to decipher this literal alien language to break down the most common phrases – including the all-important “Why are [they] here?” – is fascinating.

Arrival relies heavily on suspense. During the first act of the movie, there is much mystery surrounding the appearance of the aliens. When we see them, the designs are pretty good, but there is a sense of wonder and discovery at their appearance. In the early scenes, leading up to the aliens, there are scenes where with minimal music that take their time, allowing us to soak in every small sound and detail in the scene. It puts the viewer in the claustrophobic atmosphere the characters would be feeling. Much of the movie doles out the exposition on what is going on in the world, particularly with Chinese General Shang – who is threatening violence with the visitors – through news stories. This is generally effective as news stories are how most people would learn of such major events so the film succeeds in putting the viewer in the characters’ shoes, especially as the film builds tension with destruction looking inevitable.

Without giving too much away, the aliens’ goal is not the newest idea in the world. However, the way the film delivers this twist is clever. There is another twist in the film that is cleverly done in the way it toys with viewers’ expectations. If there is one nitpick with the film, there are parts where it feels like a scene cycle – they talk to the aliens, then analyze what they say – repeat. One of the strengths of the film is the way it builds on everything with each new meeting. So the film spices things up enough to not be completely repetitive, but it was a minor issue.

Overall, Arrival is a truly great film. The film is a blend of complex ideas with genuinely suspenseful moments. With so many great movies in theaters or on the way, Arrival still stands as a must-see.

Scream Queens SN02 EP07 – ‘The Hand’

rsz_1rsz_scream-queens-logo

***WARNING SPOILERS BELOW***

Last week the Green Meanie was revealed! It turns out the 80’s hospital baby Dr. Cassidy Cascade (Taylor Lautner) and Nurse Hoffel (Kirstie Alley) are 2 out of 3 Green Meanies running around the hospital. The C.U.R.E. Institute now has 4 serial killers and killer hand roaming free on the premises, so it doesn’t seem like the hospital staff and patients have much chance on making it out alive. Who will be next to be killed?!

The episode is aptly named as this episode’s main focus was on Dr. Holt (John Stamos) and his killer hand. Dr. Holt was the first successful hand transplant, the donor hand belonged to a notorious serial killer and sometimes Holt has a little trouble controlling it. In an effort to get positive press for the hospital, Dean Munsch (Jamie Lee Curtis) plans a risky surgery and as Holt becomes increasingly stressed his hand becomes uncontrollable. The hand has a personality of its own, even talking to Holt. (A little embarrassing when a hand has more personality than some of the minor characters.) Holt wants rid of his hand even attempting to cut it off but to the hands credit it did save Holt from the Green Meanie when they attempted to kill him ;). Holt had to tie his hand behind his back and performed the risky procedure with one hand. The risky procedure is a success, thanks to the Chanel’s rendition of “99 red balloons” which seemed to calm Holt down and keep control of the hand.

scream-queens-brock-holt-and-chanel

Holt has struggled to keep control of his hand before.

In a brief scene, Chanel admits to No.5 (Abigail Breslin), No.3 and Hester (Lea Michelle) that Holt’s hand tried to kill her, with both No.3 and Hester agreeing with her to give him another chance because he’s a hot doctor. The reason this scene is notable is that Hester suggests Holt is not the Green Meanie, can we rule him out or is she just lying. Also, she clearly alludes to the fact that she knows Cascades one of the Green Meanies, but does she know who the other one is or is she bluffing to get what she wants?

The other main focus of the episode was the newly revealed Green Meanie Dr. Cascade. Remember a few episodes back when he confessed to Chanel No.3 that he was dead but somehow still breathing. This episode No.3 wants to get to the bottom of it and suspecting it is a psychological issue she gives him a psych test. Cascade is not in fact dead but she does find out he is a psychopath, leaving her to suspect he is the Green Meanie. However, she toys with whether she should turn him in or not. No. 3 admits to him that she knows he’s the killer and they both profess their love for each other. No.3 believes she can divert his attention from killing and he promises he won’t kill her or Chanel (Of course, no mention of No.5), but Hoffel will certainly not be happy about this, as all she wants is to kill the Chanel’s.

Chanel No. 10 is the next to die, but with all these Green Meanie’s running around it’s hard to know which one did it. Later, another person falls victim to the Green Meanie but not before he calls the ethics committee, so it looks like the hospital will be payed a visit soon.

At the end of the episode, Cascade offers to give Holt another hand transplant, this time not from a serial killer. Cascade’s motives are unclear, did he just want to do something nice as he no longer wants to kill, or did he do this in attempt to foil Hoffel’s plan to stress Holt out and his hand will kill Chanel for her. However, the transplant did not work as in the closing moments while Holt and Chanel are sleeping, Holts hand writes ‘Kill Chanel’ on the pad on his bedside table.

Questions we still want to know; Will Holt be able to keep his new hand under control? Will Cascade kill again? Or has he already? Will Cascade and No.3’s relationship last? Will Nurse Hoffel finally get her revenge on Chanel? Will the hospital be closed? Who is the other Green Meanie?

Did you enjoy the episode? Comment and let us know your theories.

The Walking Dead SN7 EP07-‘Sing Me A Song’

Various plans were set in motion as we learnt even more about Negan’s sadistic ways.

the-walking-dead-episode-707-carl-riggs-2-935

As we head into the midseason finale next week, it was clear this episode would have a lot to do to get the story moving. As great as this half season has been, it’s mostly been about showing how powerless the group is right now. It has been interesting to watch, given it’s a position the characters on this show have never really been in before, but at the same time, the story has somewhat stalled. There’s only so many times Negan and the Saviours can emotionally destroy the group before it wears thin, so it was great to see this week’s episode move things along. After so many episodes checking in on only a couple different group members at a time, it was also great that this week’s episode touched bases with multiple people, however, even with the episode’s extended runtime, some stories felt underserved. Namely Rick and Aaron’s supply run and Michonne’s morbid road trip. Nevertheless, these will likely get their due next week.

The star of this week’s episode was undoubtedly Carl. It’s been a while since he really had a big episode focused on him, probably not since Season 4 Episode 9. It’s a shame too, given what the characters like in the comics. Actor Chandler Riggs has responsibilities such as school outside the show, which means Carl isn’t quite as developed in the TV show, so this episode went a long way to remedying that. It’s amazing actually how closely this season has stuck to the comics, with entire scenes this episode being ripped straight from the comics. There’s enough different about the show that it doesn’t feel too predictable for comic readers, but at the same time, it’s thrilling to see favourite moments from the book come to life onscreen. A lot of how great this was, is down to how brilliant Jeffrey Dean Morgan is as Negan.

After a short break, Negan was back in full force this week, and away from the odd face ironing, we got a better idea of just how charming and frankly hilarious the character can be. His relationship with Carl is probably one of the most intriguing elements of the character, but seeing him at The Sanctuary just going about his daily business gave a great insight into what makes the character tick. After forcing Carl to show him his eye, it was revealed that somewhere underneath all that leather and bravado Negan does have something of a heart. This was a scene that worked better in the comic simply because Carl was much younger, but it still had a significant effect during the episode, helpfully showing Negan’s not all bad. It’s something we needed. The show has spent a lot of time this season focused on Negan, but he’s mostly come across as a one-note villain. Just some sadistic psychopath who enjoys killing him. Having him then apologise to Carl for upsetting him, and later to Olivia for doing the same, shows the character has layers, and that will make him even more interesting going forward.

Away from Carl and Negan, this episode had some smaller but equally good moments for various other characters. The interactions between Rosita and Eugene were a particular highlight. Abraham saved their lives, and Glenn put his faith in both of them, so both see a need to honour them, just in different ways. Whilst Eugene refusing to make a bullet may make it seem like he’s reverted to his cowardly ways, he’s actually just trying to spare Rosita and the others from the inevitable fallout of Rosita’s actions. He knows that even if she were to kill Negan it wouldn’t end things, and she might not be the one to pay the price. It was courageous for Eugene to stand up to her, and while he’s not at the point of full on defiance, it shows how far the character has come. At the same time, Rosita spoke a lot of truth about Eugene, but she’s yet to realise just how far the guy has come. The relationship between Abraham and Eugene was touching up until the very end, but he was the glue holding their trio together. Without Abraham, both Rosita and Eugene are hurting, but I’ve no doubt something will happen between the two to finally bring them back together.

Of corse with so many characters being covered now there’s plenty to see, so other notable highlights include:

  • Spencer continued his reign as Dick Supreme this episode, but Father Gabriel of all people called him out on it. Watching Gabriel call Spencer a “tremendous shit” was one of the most satisfying moments on this show ever. It was also a great reminder that Gabriel was once in Spencer’s position, only I doubt Spencer will have quite the redemption arc that Gabriel got. Also, Gabriel is awesome. Just had to say that. So awesome.

  • Also in the realm of awesome characters? Olivia. After spending most of her time since she was introduced in the background, it’s great to see her receive some of the spotlight. I’ve always said the Alexandrians need a lot more development, and what better way to show how awesome a character is than to have her slap Negan round the face. Of course, this only made him 50% more into her, but he’s a creepy guy. Go Olivia!

  • Daryl looks set to escape, but the question is who’s helping him? He seemed to notice Jesus was breaking into the Sanctuary, but could Dwight or Sherry be the accomplice? Whatever happens, we know he can’t really go back to Alexandria. If he does escape that’s the first place Negan will look, so is Daryl due a trip to the Hilltop? Or even more exciting, will he be reunited with Carol and Morgan at the Kingdom?

  • Well done to Greg Nicotero and crew this episode. Carl’s eye looked brilliant, and the Iron scene was just brutal. I thought for a moment that they wouldn’t show it, which seemed crazy given what they did to Glenn and Abraham, but show it they did, and it was all kinds of nasty.

  • Negan talking to Judith in a baby voice whilst simultaneously threatening to kill her and Carl was both disturbing and brilliant at the same time. This guy is a really fun character to have onscreen.

So the penultimate episode of the first half of The Walking Dead Season 7 started to move the plot forward in various meaningful ways. Various plans to go against Negan in the Saviours are now in full swing, the only question is with everyone working individually, are their plans doomed to fail? And if so, who will pay the price? The episode added some much-needed layers to Negan’s character, as well as giving Carl a chance to shine. It’s still unclear how quickly the show is headed towards any kind of confrontation between Negan and the group. As I mentioned, most characters are working individually or within small groups, so we’ll have to see everyone unite together before the action begins. Until then, expect much craziness in next week’s midseason finale.

Rocket Raccoon and Baby Groot are featured in a short animated film.

rrbg

Looks like two of the heroes from GOTG get to venture off on their own little mission in this mini animated short, Staring Baby Groot and Rocket Raccoon, as vinyl Pop figures!

Marvel and Funko, who decided it would be fun to make mini films with Pop figurines, did this wonderful little short. They already released one mini film done earlier this year starring Spider Man and are in talks about their next project for a Deadpool one as well.

In this film, Rocket Raccoon and Baby Groot have to escape the evil clutches of the Collector, (bum bum bum). This is so adorable guys; I mean it just makes you smile. Please enjoy this very short, animated film and let me know what you think. I am currently looking at my baby Groot Christmas Pop! I sure hope he is happy here….. ^_^

Supernatural S12 E8 – LOTUS

spn-lotus

Not gonna lie.  I said some choice words (that my boss won’t let me use here) at the end of this episode.  It’s soooo not looking good for the home team, and they really left us hanging.  But, that’s why they call it a cliffhanger, I guess.

Let me go back to “Now”… it all started for me with a text from DJ that was the equivalent of him chanting “Let it begin!” over and over like some sort of mantra.  Not that I’m being all judgey because that’s sort of what I was doing, but my mantra was slightly different.  I should tell you here that I didn’t start The Show 15 minutes late like normal so that I could fast forward through the commercials.  So, DJ and I had a running commentary in texts this week… and oh what fun it was.  We made jokes about the whole ‘the President is the Devil’ sitch… we thought the similarities to the current situation were uncanny.  I mean this episode had to have been shot before the election, but it’s like they KNEW!

I said, “The Trump/Devil comparison is just a little too close to home”.  DJ’s response was, “But he’s not blonde… or orange.”  “True,” I pointed out, “nor does he have a massive comb over.”  And that’s when Lucifer said, “Or, we could just go ahead and nuke ’em” and we both erupted into a fit of laughter because that jab was AWESOME!  The only thing that would’ve made it better would’ve been if LOTUS had tweeted that.

We were totally questioning if the President’s affair de jour was named Rosemary, before we learned her name was Kelly.  But, Kelly Schmelly, I’ll be calling her Rosemary from now on.  We were totally still calling her Rosemary and cracking jokes (via texts) when Dean stole our bit and called her Rosemary. … loved that bt-dubbs.

The line of the episode award goes to Crowley, though.  Sam says (and I’m paraphrasing), “Can we get the details without all the drama?”  And Crowley says, “Can I get you without the flannel?  No, but I endure.”  However, the line of the text message conversation award goes to DJ who broke out into song … singing Foreigner’s Hot Blooded, when Kelly put her hand on the bible and set it on fire.

We did have some questions about the de-Lucifer-fying of POTUS though.  Why didn’t the Egg of Destiny (that’s DJ’s joke) not zap Castiel … or Crowley for that matter.  Now, I said maybe it was because Castiel is technically not possessing a vessel since Jimmy isn’t still in there, but of course that wouldn’t have kept it from affecting Crowley.  So, we decided that it must have been the incantation that Sam said before the others entered the room.. that must have been to make it only affect LOTUS.  But, we’d love to have an actual answer to that, ya know if any of the muckity mucks from The Show actually read my reviews.

The interchange between Sam and Dean over the grenade launcher was superb!

I laughed long and hard over Rowena, covered in her newest ex-fiance’s blood and guts telling Crowley, “That’s the sweetest thing you’ve ever done for me.”  I just love the look on Ruthie Connell’s face in that scene… perfection.  I also loved that Crowley took Rowena with him when he poofed out.  I’m really enjoying seeing a little affection between them instead of outright hatred.

Now, I know this was the mid-season finale and all, and I enjoyed the scenes for the new episode coming up in January, BUT… I think it would’ve been so great if Castiel’s line would’ve been “Six weeks, six days, and twenty-two hours” when talking about how long The Boys had been missing.  Why?  Because that’s how long the wait will be from the end of this episode until the next.  Instead he’s short by four days and twelve hours.  Not that I’m counting or anything.  Shut up.

Here’s that sneak peek at the new episode on January 26th…
