An Interview With Cosplayer Hannah Indigo Cosplay

main
Hi Readers
It’s time for another cosplay interview, this time we meet Hannah Indigo Cosplay. Hannah Indigo Cosplay first caught my attention with her awesome Harley Quinn cosplay, after that  was blown away by the use of make up in her cosplays, it was some of the best I’ve seen! Let’s find out some more about Hannah Indigo Cosplay  .

1) How did you get into cosplaying?

I had been working in the cosmetics industry for around 4 years when I decided I wanted to teach myself SFX Make Up. I loved horror films, I had already crated a few zombies and chosen to go as Stephen King’s Carrie for Halloween one year. To practice techniques, I followed a chelsea smile tutorial, and turned this into a Joker look.

Meanwhile, I’d noticed a girl I went to school with had dressed up as SS Harley for Halloween. She looked amazing! We only spoke every couple of months, but Oliva was someone who just understood me. I was in Portugal visiting family when I noticed it was MCM Comic Con the weekend I returned to the UK. I joked with Olivia that we should go as Harley and The Joker, but before we could even think about it I had already bought tickets and ordered myself a green wig.

Sat in the car with a white face, mis matching eye shadow but completely normal clothing, we convinced ourselves that we were totally overdressed. However, looking back now, my Joker “cosplay” was just terribly bad! My Ledger style scars drew some attention, we were stopped for photos and even filmed for a cosplay music video. It was like another world, putting on a mask and you could just escape reality for a few hours. The whole thing was so alien to us, but we fell in love with it. I remember on the journey home, we were so overwhelmed at just how nice the community was, how accepting and friendly everyone was. From there it just became an addiction.

2) Where do you get your inspiration and ideas to cosplay from? Is it from programs you watch now or childhood programs or both?

My main inspiration is my own imagination. None of my Harley’s are strictly based on a single version of her. I love inventing new looks and styles for her with a splash of my own personality. I also love an excuse to wear these crazy outfits I could never even dream of wearing in my normal life.

As I meet more people within the community I’m constantly inspired by their creativity and fresh ideas. I don’t watch an awful lot of TV, but when I do, I become addicted to whole seasons. I’ve done Carl from TWD and I also have an OITNB cosplay in the pipeline. I try to chose characters that either I can relate to or maybe resemble in some way. I just usually chose the characters I love.

My childhood doesn’t inspire my cosplay that much. I grew up watching The Labyrinth and reading Where The Wild Things Are. I also watched a lot of Disney but I don’t feel that inspired to become a princess. Horror films and gore inspire me a lot more. But, hey, who knows, maybe I’ll do Max from Wild Things one day!

carl.jpg

3) How do you put your outfits together are they 100% from scratch and if so what’s been your trickiest part to date?

I don’t sketch my ideas, I just keep a mental mood board in my head. It usually works. I keep a lot of images on my phone, as I see things that inspire me I just add them to my camera roll.

I do try and create a lot of bits myself, but I have such a talented selection of latex specialists, wig stylists, prop makers etc that I like utilise their skills too. I love to collaborate with different designers as it’s a great way to showcase each others work but also freshen up ideas, two heads are better than one after all.

My biggest challenge to date had to be Ivy’s pants. I know a lot of other people struggle with this too as I’ve had many messages asking how I made them, and we all have the same problem. Due to the elastic in the pants, after you’ve attached the leaves and pull them up, the glue doesn’t move with the elastic and they just all snap and fall off! My only solution to this was to hot glue the leaves on while I was wearing the pants! I would not recombined this to anyone unless you want hot glue burns below the waist! The worst of it, I’m going have to remake the damn things as they didn’t survive two solid days at a con and a photoshoot!

4) What’s your favourite cosplay to date?

That’s a really tough one! I would say Harley because I love her personality, plus her outfit is just so much fun. Her wig is so bloody fabulous too! But ultimately, it has to be Ivy, although she’s probably my most uncomfortable outfit to date! She was my first full cosplay, I made the costume myself, and she’s so glamourous. I’m very proud of that cosplay.

ivy.jpg

5) If you’ve cosplayed at a convention what was the experience like?

I’ve never not cosplayed at a convention! I couldn’t imagine going in human clothes! For me it’s a must because it gets you talking to new people! I love meeting people in the same costume as myself, or characters I love. I have a few characters I always look out for at cons!

My friend and I tend to have an “all out” cosplay for the main day (Saturday) and a “comfy cosplay” for the day we travel home. For my last Con I chose Carl as my comfy cosplay. It was nice, because although I wasn’t stopped as much it gave me the opportunity to really explore the convention hall. People loved the make up, it’s very different playing a really glam character one day and one who’s had their eye shot out the next!

Meet ups are a big thing at conventions, although due to my anxiety I haven’t made it to one yet! I always catch up on the awesome photos people get, but I’m not quite ready for it myself yet. I’m hoping to make some DC ones in October.

I’ve met some incredible people at cons due to being in cosplay that I probably wouldn’t have spoken to if I was out of costume. I always say to myself “where would I be if I hadn’t put Ivy together?” They have really become some of my closest friends and I’m most thankful to cosplay for that.

6) Can we expect to see you at any conventions this year?

I may be going to Sheffield con in a few weeks, whether I go on my own, with a friend or whatever is all still up in the air at the moment. However if I’m getting the train then I may have to choose a comfy cosplay!

I will 100% be attending both MCM London and Birmingham at the end of this year. I have a brand new Harley in the works, so I’m excited to take her to London for the first time! Old favourites like Ivy will be coming along to London too.

harley.jpg

7) If you could cosplay as anyone and budget wasn’t an issue who would it be?

I know D.Va could be the new Harley, but seriously, how awesome would be  D.Va but with an actual working robot?! Imagine, you could hop in and out, move around in it…..

Mercy also has an insane costume. There would be so many options if money wasn’t an object. However money doesn’t bring connections, even with all the money in the world, I’d still need to find someone to build this robot for me! Realistically though, cosplay is an expensive hobby, I want to get more into armoured work, so if anyone fancies throwing some Worbla in my direction that would be great!

8) Do you have any words of advice for up and coming cosplayers?

I still consider myself as an up and coming cosplayer, but I have learnt a few things. Network and talk to people! Don’t be afraid to say hello, or in my case, drop your hotdog and sprint across the hall screaming “Ricckkkkkk! Rickk!!” I get a little over excited when I see cosplays that are just too real to be true! But seriously, I’ve made some of the best friends from conventions, so don’t avoid the social events and always be yourself!

Buy good wigs. I cannot express to you how much a wig can make or break your entire cosplay. Really think about how you can cross over certain wigs for different outfits if you want to save a little cash. Also, help people and utilise your own skills. Go to town on what you are good at, hence why I always go overboard on my make up for cosplays. But if you can make amazing armour, then armour the crap pout of your cosplay!

Don’t take it too seriously. I’ve heard rubbish being said about my cosplays on social media, commenting on my looks or my weight. It could so easily knock me out of the game, but I always remind myself that these are just trolls, with nothing good to say. I try not to take on board the hateful comments and really focus on the good ones. Don’t feel like you have to do anything that makes you feel uncomfortable just to get your cosplay noticed! Stay true to you.

An Interview With Cosplayer Vivi Bunny Cosplay

main
Hi Readers

It’s time for another cosplay interview, this time we meet Vivi Bunny Cosplay. Vivi Bunny Cosplay first caught my attention with her amazing Nidalee cosplay! Let’s find out some more about Vivi Bunny Cosplay  .

1) How did you get into cosplaying?

I was always interested in cosplaying from a very young age and dressing at Halloween was always something I loved! But it wasn’t until around May 2015 that I actually did my first costume! There was this small convention and I decided to dress up as Harley Quinn just for fun and at the convention I had so many people ask me if I had a facebook page or Instagram so they could follow me. And so I went home to create a page and decided to keep making costumes ever since!

2) Where do you get your inspiration and ideas to cosplay from? Is it from programs you watch now or childhood programs or both?

I would say my biggest inspiration is from video games! I am an avid video game player and I play way too much for my own good! I usually try to cosplay characters from the video game I am currently playing the most! It used to be League of Legends and a few MMOs but now Overwatch has taken over my life! Besides video games I think it really depends on my mood. Sometimes I want to cosplay a certain character because I feel like I can pull it off or other times I just want something cute or sexy!

3) How do you put your outfits together are they 100% from scratch and if so what’s been your trickiest part to date?

I always try to do everything by myself from scratch! Exept for wigs and small accessories I can’t do myself! The biggest challenge I’ve ever had was when I started building armor! I never had any experience with it and when I did my first big armor which was Rengar, I’ve had to do everything like 2 or 3 times because I didn’t know how to do it or I didn’t like the way it looked.

4) What’s your favourite cosplay to date?

My favourite cosplay would be my Nidalee cosplay. It’s probably one of my most comfortable one and also one of the first ones where I got the most recognition for!

nidalee

5) If you’ve cosplayed at a convention what was the experience like?

I always have a great time at conventions! I’ve made so many friends and met so many people during my little time as a cosplayer! When I go there it’s almost like I am in a different world where being different and weird isn’t different and weird.. Am I making any sense?! Also most of the people at conventions are usually super nice and respectful of you. It always feels good when someone compliments you on your costume! The only time where I wish I wasn’t at a convention was during Anime North 2016. On the second day, I was booked back to back with different photographers for almost 7 hours straight and it was so hot that my armor started melting and the glue didn’t hold so I had to go back to the hotel room to fix everything and it was just painful for me!

3.png

6) Can we expect to see you at any conventions this year?

I will be attending the Otakuthon 2016 in Montreal. I will also be heading to the Montreal Dreamhack and in October I will be cosplaying at the League of Legends semi-finals in NYC! I usually try to attend most if not all the conventions in my area but sadly there’s isn’t as much conventions as I’d hope!

2.jpg
7) If you could cosplay as anyone and budget wasn’t an issue who would it be?

One of my dream cosplay is Sylvanas from World of Warcraft! I just haven’t had the time to tackle her yet!

8) Do you have any words of advice for up and coming cosplayers?
I would say the best advice I can give to anyone getting into the cosplay is to not give up and to always try to best yourself from costume to costume because that’s how you will improve! Never say you can’t do it or it’s too hard! Try it out and if you don’t like the results do it again until it’s perfect for you!

Another advice is to never ever let people bring you down. You are cosplaying for yourself and you have to be enjoying it. If you aren’t having fun doing what you love then there’s no point in doing it at all!

9) Where can we find you online?

Once Upon A Cosplay: An Interview With Reagan Kathryn

I had the opportunity of meeting Reagan Kathryn at Phoenix Comic-Con this year and even though I only talked with her for a couple minutes it was one of the better experiences I had at the con that day. Reagan is a 22 year old cosplayer from Southern California and her cosplays are a variation of faithful character designs and some very clever combinations of two different characters from different series. Ms. Kathryn took some time out of her busy schedule to sit down and talk to us about her cosplay work.

Cinderella

How long have you been cosplaying for?

I have been cosplaying since around January 2016! ALA was actually the first con I ever wore a costume I made!

Besides attending cons what other work do you do with your cosplay?

I work as a princess for big events and birthday parties occasionally. I also have done many many hospitals visits. It is so much fun to be able to wear my costumes and also brighten people’s day.

Kid Photo

What series or genre is the main source of your cosplay?

Currently I cosplay mostly Disney. But I have very recently started doing more superheroes and videogames!

Rapunzel

What was your earliest cosplay?

The first cosplay that I made 100% by myself was my ReyPunzel crossover for ALA. But before that I made a Megara cosplay with the help of some friends. These two characters will always be super special to me.

Rey Punzel

What drove you or inspired you start cosplaying?

I actually started cosplaying by accident! I wore an Ariel cosplay that my friend had made and then I was hooked. Someone told me that I should dress as Meg and then the rest is history!

How many characters do you currently cosplay as?

Oh goodness… lets see. I have done pretty much every Disney Princess. I also have Mary Jane, Harley Quinn, Posion Ivy and Black Canary! Also I have some crossovers like ReyPunzel, Mermaid Rapunzel, Punzie as Flynn and Meg Fett (can you guys tell I like Rapunzel?)

Day of the Dead

Which is your favorite character or characters to cosplay as?

Rapunzel! She is my absolute favorite ever. I just think she is so much fun and I always feel super pretty as her. Plus I just love crazy wigs.

Flynn Punzel

DIY is the name of the game in the cosplay field. How much of your costumes are done by hand and do you do most of the work or do you have helping hands that contribute to bringing your cosplay to life?

I do a lot of the work, but I don’t do everything! I have tons of amazing and wonderful friends who help me out. Since I am still so new to cosplay I’m so grateful that I have people who will help me out!

You have some very clever and cool character combinations, for example you have some very cool Disney characters in mandalorian armor. How do these character mashups come about?

Mashups are my very favorite things to do!! It just comes from loving two things and thinking they would be cool together. My Megara in mandalorian armor was actually part of a group put on by Amber Arden! And my Slave Rapunzel was totally Maid of Might’s idea! ReyPunzel came because im such a dork and I love Punz.. ;). I have done a few others too, and they just started because I wanted to be Rapunzel all the time.Meg Armor

What has been the most memorable cosplay experience you’ve had?

I think the most memorable time would be when someone came up to me for the first time and said they liked my work! I put so much time, blood, sweat, tears and love into this craft that really I don’t think I could ever express how much it means to me when people like the finished product. It really keeps me going.

What has been the craziest, either good or bad, cosplay experience?

Well, one time I was grabbed and offered money to take care of people… that really wasn’t a fun experience. So always walk with a buddy!

Will you be attending more cons this year?

I will be! I’ll be at Comikaze, Dragon Con, Palm Springs Comic Con, and Blizzcon as of right now! Hopefully I’ll be able to add some more to my line up too.

What advice do you have for budding cosplayers?

Pick a character you love and start there! It doesn’t matter how you cosplay. If you make everything or buy it. If you spend $5 or $5000. All that matters is that at the end of the day wearing that costume makes you feel happy!

Any upcoming cosplay projects we can look forward to seeing you in?

I am currently working on a succubus cosplay! Its my first time working with Worbla so I’m super nervous!

I want to thank Ms. Kathryn for taking the time to talk to us. If you see her at any of the upcoming cons she will be attending say hi and tell her skatronixxx or wiredin21 sent you. You can also catch her and her incredible cosplay work on social media on these sites:

An Interview With Cosplayer Potato Child Cosplay

main

Hi Readers

It’s time for another cosplay interview, this time we meet Potato Child Cosplay. Potato Child Cosplay first caught my attention with her awesome Skyrim cosplays! Let’s find out some more about Potato Child Cosplay .

1) How did you get into cosplaying?

I started going to conventions when I was about 16, together with my best friend at the time. I always got so fascinated by those super talented cosplayers, and how they got to be whoever they wanted to be, so I figured I would give it a try. In 2014, when I was about 19- 20, I did my first cosplay, which was a total failure. But even with it being pretty bad, I had gotten a lot of compliments on my work and how I looked and the confidence that came from it, triggered me to keep doing it.

2) Where do you get your inspiration and ideas to cosplay from? Is it from programs you watch now or childhood programs or both?

I’ll cosplay any character I either really like, or relate to. This can be from games, movies, anime, cartoons,… both old ones as recent ones. I try not to get involved with cosplays where I have to dress as a character I do not know or do not like.

2

3) How do you put your outfits together are they 100% from scratch and if so what’s been your trickiest part to date?

My first two or three cosplays were bought. After that, with the help of some of my newly made cosplayfriends (who had more experience than I did, obviously) I started learning new skills. Like basic sewing, making props, painting techniques etc. I’d like to thank my mum who was  great help and inspiration to me in learning these new skills as well. I do struggle the most with sewing and making light props. I make pretty decent props, like weapons and such, but I always seem to mess up and make them weigh a ton! Oops..

4) What’s your favourite cosplay to date?

Out of the ones I’ve already made, my favourite has to be my Bosmer cosplay, from Skyrim, as this was the first one that was completely made from scratch. Next to that I’d also have to add either Jessie & James (Team Rocket) and Lola & Bugs Bunny (Space Jam), because they make me relive my childhood!

5

5) If you’ve cosplayed at a convention what was the experience like?

Honestly, at first it was all very overwhelming, but in a good way. As a shy girl with little self- confidence, all the newly found friendships, all the compliments and attention, made me blossom into the woman I am today. I am now way more open and confident. But I have to be completely honest that the Belgian Cosplay Community is way too much about competition and being the best, and after having been brought down multiple times by people, I have lost my confidence. But it’s my love for the characters and the good times with my friends that keep me cosplaying! Cosplaying at cons is scary sometimes, seeing all those skilled cosplayers, but then again, anyone can cosplay and the memories are the best I’ll have!

6) Can we expect to see you at any conventions this year?

I will, ofcourse, be visiting Belgian cons (like F.A.C.T.S. that is still coming up), besides that I’ll be visiting Gamescom in Germany (no cosplays tho) and Abunai & Elfia in the Netherlands. I am guessing little of the people reading this will be from Belgium, but if you are, feel free to come and say hi ANY TIME! I love meeting new people!

7) If you could cosplay as anyone and budget wasn’t an issue who would it be?

I have never really been very into those “big, heavy, impressing cosplays”. As said before, to me it’s about my love for the character. But if I had all the money needed, I would start on one cosplay in particular, right away. That is Alicia Melchiott, Valkyrur Version, from the anime and the game “Valkyria Chronicles”. Next to that, perhaps I could start on my Venusaur Gijinka too!

8) Do you have any words of advice for up and coming cosplayers?

Try not to get too overwhelmed by the skilled and popular cosplayers. Anyone is allowed to cosplay because it’s all about fun. You wanna buy your cosplays? Great! You wanna make them yourself? Go for it! Just NEVER forget to have fun! Also, do not be afraid to be “cheap”.

Cosplaying is so expensive! Don’t be scared to go to thrift shops or re-use materials to make your cosplays. Cosplaying is a hobby, it should not take up all of your savings. And always feel free to ask help to those who are more skilled, we are here to help!

1

9) Where can we find you online?

I have both a Facebook page, as an Instagram account for my cosplays.

An Interview With Cosplayer Shinya Nightingale

main.png

Hi Readers

It’s time for another cosplay interview, this time we meet Shinya Nightingale! Shinya Nightingale first caught my attention with her awesome anime cosplays! Let’s find out some more about Shinya Nightingale .

1) How did you get into cosplaying?

I get into Cosplay by a friend back in May 2013. I was a big anime and manga fan but had no idea what cosplay is. She did a joint cosplay with me and took me with her to a Con 🙂 Then I started to do it more and more and now it is an important part of my life.

3

2) Where do you get your inspiration and ideas to cosplay from? Is it from programs you watch now or childhood programs or both?

I get my ideas for conventions from programs and games that are our currently. But for costesting aka cosplaying-contests I also take inspiration from shows I watched when I was younger.

1

3) How do you put your outfits together are they 100% from scratch and if so what’s been your trickiest part to date?

When I was starting I bought all my cosplays. In the beginning of 2016 I started to make them myself. The most trickiest was how to make my the armor based on the anime Owari No Seraph.

4) What’s your favourite cosplay to date?

My favourite cosplay at the moment is Shigure Yukimi from owari no seraph. I cosplayed as her in the normal uniform and also in the armor version and take the cosplay to a lot of cons ^^

5) If you’ve cosplayed at a convention what was the experience like?

The experience with a cosplay at a con has been very good. I can’t imagine going to a con without a cosplaying! For me it is a lot of fun to show people my work and make new cosplay friends.

6) Can we expect to see you at any conventions this year?

Well for me the Conseason is over soon. I will only be at the Animagic and Connichi. They are both based in Germany and I will also hope to go to a little Swiss con called Aki No Matsuri to end my conseason up.

4

7) If you could cosplay as anyone and budget wasn’t an issue who would it be?

Ahri from League Of Legends 🙂 she is a cosplay dream of mine for so long now but making the tails would be expensive so I haven’t been able to do it as of yet. I don’t know when I’ll finally be able to cosplay as her but I hope the day will come!

8) Do you have any words of advice for up and coming cosplayers?

Just some little words. It doesn’t matter if people say the character you cosplay doesn’t suit you or the cosplay isn’t well made. It’s your work and your happiness you feel by wearing this cosplay! If you feel good in it then it is the right way because every cosplay is special and good in his own ways so keep on the good work and go on! ^-^

9) Where can we find you online?

You can find me on Instagram or on Facebook, however I am also looking at adding a YouTube account as well.

Jet Luckhurst Q&A

☆ When did you start playing and what instruments to you play?

I started singing when I was about 8 years old, I taught myself guitar and drums over the last 10 years. I also play keys and base.

☆ Where do you draw your inspiration from when writing songs?

Concepts and ideas mostly, although I will write about personal experience if it’s particularly significant .

☆ Who are your music influences?

Vocally, the beach boys in part due to Brian Wilsons perfectionism for vocal and harmonic layering. I also take inspiration from artists such as John Mayer, Imogen Heap and the civil wars. I listen to a range of music however from Of Mice and Men to Jurassic 5.

☆ What is your favorite song right now?

Currently , and probably a guilty pleasure but Chainsaw by Nick Jonas.

☆ What has been the best moment in your career so far?

Best moment of my career was touring with number one selling 80s band T’Pau last year in the UK, they have topped the charts in the UK and US and sold an eyewatering number of records. I played a show in Redhill to a sold out crowd and they all sang along to my song ‘I Consider You Home’ (there’s a video on my music page of it), it was pretty crazy I won’t lie.

An Interview With Cosplayer Toronto Iron Man

main

Hi Readers

It’s time for another cosplay interview, this time we meet Toronto Iron Man! Toronto Iron Man first caught my attention with his truly stunning Iron Man cosplays it’s  one of ther best Iron Man cosplays I’ve seen, actually it’s one of the best cosplays PERIOD! Let’s find out some more about Toronto Iron Man .

1) How did you get into cosplaying?

Ever since I was a kid I’ve always loved Halloween. From being a clown, to a skeleton, to Spider-Man, to an inmate, I’ve always loved dressing up. After watching the first Iron Man movie in 2008, I knew I wanted an Iron Man suit. I began researching Iron Man costumes and through that process I ran into “Pepakura“, a program that allows you to unfold 3D models to a printable 2D model. I used that to build my first Iron Man suit. In 2012, I attended the premiere of  “The Avengers” and noticed many people dressing up in costumes and going  to conventions. That was the first time I had ever heard of cosplay.

2) Where do you get your inspiration and ideas to cosplay from? Is it from programs you watch now or childhood programs or both?

Like many kids, I grew up watching cartoons and animated tv series.  From enjoying the shows I began to collect the action figures from the 1990’s animated T.V series such as Iron Man, X-Men, Spider-Man, Batman. My inspiration for my Iron Man suit came from the first Iron Man Movie and “Legacy Effects”, the geniuses behind the suit. This remarkably talented studio specializes in bringing movies to life with realistic movie props, costumes and animatronics. That’s when I saw my childhood hero, Iron Man, come to life. I mean what’s cooler than having an awesome suit of armor that flies, while being a rich genius and getting all the ladies?

3) How do you put your outfits together are they 100% from scratch and if so what’s been your trickiest part to date?

Except for the Pepakura models itself, all my suits are 100% done by myself. I developed a sheet metal/ foam hybrid for my armor which gives me the strength and durability of resin or fibreglass and keeps it lightweight like foam. The hardest part is finding a ratio between comfort/ mobility and movie accuracy/ aesthetics, which is why I can’t sit down in my armor.

im4

4) What’s your favourite cosplay to date?

My favorite cosplay to date is my Iron Man Mark VI. I have rebuilt this armor 3 times, improving it each time. It’s the armor I currently use for all special events and parties I do.

im2

5) If you’ve cosplayed at a convention what was the experience like?

Cosplaying at a convention is an experience like no other. Walking into a crowded room with my Iron Man suit you are automatically the star of the show and everyone goes crazy trying to get a picture with you. Even doing special events I had Justin Bieber ask me for a picture which was pretty crazy.

im1

6) Can we expect to see you at any conventions this year?

I will be attending Fan Expo 2016 this September in Toronto and hoping to debut my new Iron Man Mark XVIIHeartBreaker” armor. Since this will be the last appearance of Stan Lee in Canada I’ll try to get my 3 Iron Man armors together for a picture.

7) If you could cosplay as anyone and budget wasn’t an issue who would it be?

If budget wasn’t an issue, I would still choose Iron Man. It’s already fairly expensive in materials but with an unlimited budget I would have a welded Iron Man suit and fully automated. Maybe even add a washroom inside HAHA.

8) Do you have any words of advice for up and coming cosplayers?

To any up and coming cosplayers I would say cosplay is for everyone, so have fun with it. However, being in costume means you will attract attention, some good and some bad. For all the hundreds of admirers you find you will always have someone critique your work or your character  of choice. It usually helps cosplaying as a character you bear a resemblance to. Since i make my own costumes the criticism is more important to me than the compliments. It lets me know where I can improve or do differently.

9) Where can we find you online?

You can find me on all social media. My preferred platform is Instagram which I keep most updated.

An Interview With Cosplayer Wanderer Lila

main.png

Hi Readers

It’s time for another cosplay interview, this time we meet Wanderer Lila!Wanderer Lila first caught my attention through her awesome variety of cosplays. Let’s find out some more about Wanderer Lila .

1)  How did you get into cosplaying?

I always went a little overboard on Halloween. My grandmother taught me everything I know about how to sew, and she even helped me make my first BIG Halloween costume when I was eight. From then on, I usually opted for buying separate pieces at thrift stores or making my Halloween costumes myself. After I got more into video games and anime, a few of my friends wanted to cosplay from Death Note. After that, I was definitely hooked. I liked being recognizable characters, and after my first big comic con (Wizard World Chicago 2014), I decided to start putting a name to my cosplays and putting myself out there in the community.

2) Where do you get your inspiration and ideas to cosplay from? Is it from programs you watch now or childhood programs or both

A little bit of both! It’s not typical of me to cosplay from something super obscure. Fallout, Bioshock, The Wolf Among Us…they’re all kind of relevant. That isn’t to say I don’t have several throwback cosplays planned, I just haven’t put them into place yet!

3) How do you put your outfits together are they 100% from scratch and if so what’s been your trickiest part to date?

It’s about a 50/50 split between handmade and store bought for my costumes. I like to make accessories and props, so if a character has a gun (Star Lord) or a pretty necklace (Elizabeth), I’ll likely opt to make those over paying someone else to. Sometimes a character will have something completely out of my creative ability to make (Piper’s leather jacket)! I don’t have many costumes that are 100% from scratch, but all of my cel-shading is done by me, by hand. My latest costume, Vallory from Tales from the Borderlands, is 90% from scratch. I have had to make a jacket, a skirt, a tank top, and a belt all from practically nothing. It is one of my biggest projects to date, and is still a work in progress.

4) What’s your favourite cosplay to date?

That’s a very tricky question, but I would have to say my Borderlands Toad. I have a lot of very positive memories attached to that costume, so I think my sentimental nature wins that battle. Plus, I was in an amazing group with all of my friends! How could I not love it?

5) If you’ve cosplayed at a convention what was the experience like?

Every time I’ve gone to a convention in cosplay, the experience has been unforgettable. Cosplaying at a convention is so much fun especially if you do it in a group, or choose something that is really popular. You get to be a celebrity for a day, and people will even talk to you about the game/movie/comic/anime that your costume is from. It’s like wearing a fandom t-shirt in public, but multiplied tenfold. I love being recognized, and I love it even more when those people then talk to me about the thing my character is from.

6) Can we expect to see you at any conventions this year?

Yes! My next convention is Anime Iowa from July 29-31 and then I will be at Wizard World Chicago from August 18-21. Also, I’ll be at Daishocon in November!

7) If you could cosplay as anyone and budget wasn’t an issue who would it be?

Anything with armor. I’d want to take on a true-to-size Lich King build from World of Warcraft. I’d go crazy with LEDs in the costume, too. You can also count on the entire thing being made out of Worbla.

8) Do you have any words of advice for up and coming cosplayers?

Life is too short to listen to anyone else about who you can/should cosplay. If you’re going to put hundreds of dollars and/or hundreds of hours of work into a costume, don’t pick anything you’re not 110% in love with.

Also, remember that this is supposed to be fun. As such, don’t be afraid to put a project on the back-burner for your mental or physical health! You will be much happier if you take the time to be kind to yourself and remember that the only deadlines you have are the ones that you create!

main

Hi Readers

It’s time for another cosplay interview, this time we meet Fenrir Reyj! Fenrir Reyj first caught my attention through her awesome Starfire cosplay. Let’s find out some more about Fenrir Reyj .

1) How did you get into cosplaying?

I started on my first cosplay 2 years ago and it was my boyfriend who actually showed me what it was. I always loved to dress up so we started making our own cosplays from scratch. I just loved the whole concept of bringing your favorite character to life!

2) Where do you get your inspiration and ideas to cosplay from? Is it from programs you watch now or childhood programs or both?

I get most my inspiration from either anime or video game characters. I also get inspiration from other cosplayers on instagram, because I am addicted to social media I look up to cosplayers such as : Kinpatsu, Danielle and Nigri my 3 senpais.

3) How do you put your outfits together are they 100% from scratch and if so what’s been your trickiest part to date?

I make all my cosplays from scratch and I still struggle with using the sewing machine. I don’t know why but I seem to tangle it up everytime I touch it That’s why I try to mix my cosplay with a lot of sewing projects so I can be better at it. I’m pretty confident in making armour so I try my best to learn how to sew.

4) What’s your favourite cosplay to date?

My favorite cosplay to date must probably be Erza Scarlet black wing armor from Fairy Tail. It’s my favorite Erza armor and I just love the character. I made it for a convention back in April and it was a big project and I put so much sweat and tears into it. The wings turned out great!

Fresh Friday Featuring Miccoli

Miccoli – Photo: Miccoli Facebook

Welcome back to this weeks Fresh Friday, this week’s feature is the very talented Miccoli! I stumbled upon this great band on twitter of all places and just instantly loved their sound. This week has an added extra as the band were kind enough to do a Q&A as well….. Lets find out more about Miccoli.

Miccoli are a British band that comprises of twin brothers Adriano Miccoli (vocal and acoustic/electric guitar) Alessandro Miccoli (piano, vocal, acoustic guitar and clarinet) and sister Francesca Miccoli (vocal, piano, and harmonica) and formed the band in 2006 in Birmingham England. Miccoli wrote, produced and recorded their own debut album “writing on rooves” and preformed some of the singles from their debut album at the O2 Wireless festival in 2006 and the following year played to a packed crowd at the Glee Club in Birmingham.

The music video for their single “Idle Stranger” was featured on VH1 and bliss TV in the UK in 2013, the music video also picked up a few awards including:

– Monthly Top Talent and Top Talent Week 22-26 – June Citizen TV 2013 – Took out 1st
– Best Of Music Category – July Citizen TV 2013 – Took out 2nd
– Top Talent Week 35-39 – September Citizen TV 2014 – Took out 2nd

Miccoli also picked up a few awards for two other music videos:

– Top Talent Week 35-39 for “Can You Hear Me” – September Citizen TV 2014 – Took out 2nd
– Top Talent Week 22 for “Magnify” – June Citizen TV 2014 – Took out 1st.

One of the bands recent singles is called ‘addiction‘ and I can tell you Miccoli are my new addiction! Not only are they exceptionally talented they also have a uniqueness that most bands today don’t have, they have the old school band sound with a modern twist and what I mean when I say old school sound is that like bands of old, you can hear every single instrument played in each of their songs. They have nailed the art of balance between music and vocals and it give you this beautiful eclectic yet nostalgic sound, which their singles – ‘Tell Me‘, ‘Undo‘ and ‘Devices‘ all feature. You need to treat your ears to Miccoli and I promise you once you hear their beautiful sound, you like me will be addicted! Below is the Q&A that Miccoli were kind enough to do for our readers.

Q&A with Miccoli

When did you start singing and songwriting?

We were all involved in music from an early age playing in orchestras at school then bands when we left school, it was around that time when we came together and started writing songs at home as we all lived together an it kind of made sense plus organising rehearsals and song writing sessions were easy.

For our readers who have never heard your music can you explain your sound in five words.

Memorable melodies with haunting harmonies.

You write your own music; where do you draw inspiration from and what is your favorite part about the process?

It sounds cliché but we draw on our own experiences in life to write about, it can literally be anything that has affected us on an emotional level in same way or another. I’d say one of my favourite parts is getting to empty your head putting it down on paper or sealing it in a melody.
Who have you always dreamt of working with and why?

We are Big fans of Fleetwood Mac that would be our first choice, they inspired us a lot listening to them growing.

Share with us your proudest moment in your career so far?

Probably having our video played on Vh1/MTV not embarrassed to say we recorded the first airing and celebrated of course with a cup of tea…Obviously.

Who is your favorite artist and what is your favorite song right now?

That’s tricky as we mainly listen to music that’s not really current or from a different era, like Fleetwood Mac we mentioned earlier but other artists like Police, Sting and Simon and Garfunkel, we are just able to relate more to this on a personal and musical level too.

Miccoli is definitely a band after my own heart, we share the love of the same artists and their music, I don’t know how I have lived without them in my playlist this long! below is the official music video for their single ‘Addiction‘ hope you guys enjoy it as much as do.
