Star Wars The Force Awakens is merely a month away but already work has begun on the next entry into the new saga far-far away. Writer and Director of Episode 8, Rhian Johnson, is already hard at work, presumably ready to whoop J.J Abrams ass. Who, I am sure, is set to break numerous records given how quickly pre-sale tickets sold out in cinemas across the world for the first entry in Disney’s new trilogy.

Oh look it’s Jar Jar Abrams I mean J.JJ Abrams my bad 😉 – Skatronixxx

In a recent interview with Wired magazine, visionary Abrams confirmed that “the script for VIII is written.” He continued, ‘I’m sure rewrites are going to be endless, like they always are. But what [Lawrence Kasdan] and I did was set up certain key relationships, certain key questions, conflicts. And we knew where certain things were going.’

Although speculation and fan theorising has been rift, very little information leak-or otherwise has been released for public consumption. That however would make Rian Johnson the luckiest man in the world given that the director has had unprecedented access throughout Episode 7’s production. ‘We had meetings with Rian and Ram Bergman, the producer of VIII,’ revealed Abrams. ‘They were watching dailies when we were shooting our movie. We wanted them to be part of the process, to make the transition to their film as seamless as possible. I showed Rian an early cut of the movie, because I knew he was doing his rewrite and prepping. And as executive producer of VIII, I need that movie to be really good. Withholding serves no one and certainly not the fans. So we’ve been as transparent as possible.’

Abrams further revealed the shared process in creating the new trilogy and praised Johnson for Episode 8’s story: ‘Rian has asked for a couple of things here and there that he needs for his story. He is an incredibly accomplished filmmaker and an incredibly strong writer. So the story he told took what we were doing and went in the direction that he felt was best, but that is very much in line with what we were thinking as well. But [Episode VIII] will be his movie; he’s going to do it in the way he sees fit. He’s neither asking for nor does he need me to oversee the process.’

Star Wars: Episode VIII is currently scheduled for released May 26, 2017. As of yet, fans no very little of the follow-up film to The Force Awakens besides numerous female leads being cast and sequences already being shot in Ireland featuring Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill. Which at the very least confirms Luke survive the threat from the New Order and the Knights of Ren … or not, this is Star Wars after all.
