Legendary Star Wars scribed Lawrence Kasdan has confirmed that the next Star Wars prequel about smuggler Han Solo’s early years will be his last film with the franchise.
Kasdan spoke with German tabloid Bild about his experiences on working across four films in total saying: “I have now made four Star Wars movies. That’s more than enough.”
Kasdan co-wrote one of the most popular instalments with The Empire Strikes Back in 1980 before returning for The Return of the Jedi in 1983 to close off George Lucas’ original trilogy. Kasdan would eventually be tempted back to the galaxy far-far away when screenwriter Michael Arndt dropped out of The Force Awakens, eventually becoming producer and co-writing the script alongside Director JJ. Abrams.
Kasdan’s last script for the franchise in fact only exists on the behest of his family who pressured him to get involved with Star Wars anthology project.
As of yet little is known of the Han Solo prequel story other than reports that British actors Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max, X-Men:Days of future past) and Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service) have been tapped to be in contention to play the young smuggler when the film hits our screens in 2018.
Meanwhile The Force Awakens opens next month with the first Star Wars anthology Rogue One opening 16 December, 2016.
