Chris Wood Joins ‘Supergirl’ in Mystery Role

Chris Wood Supergirl Containment

Chris Wood in Containment.

Chris Wood joins the cast of Supergirl as a series regular in season 2, however, any details about the ‘surprise DC character’ he is playing are being kept under wraps. Some are speculating that he may be the one in the crashed Kryptonian pod from the season 1 finale. Chris has previously starred in ‘The Vampire Diaries’, ‘The Carrie Diaries‘ and most recently ‘Containment’.

He isn’t the only new addition to the season, since the Supergirl’s move from CBS to The CW, they have announced a significant number of new characters. Most notably, Tyler Hoechlin (Teen Wolf) has been cast as Superman and Lynda Carter (Wonder Women) as the President of the United States. Also joining Wood, is Ian Gomez (Cougar Town) as Snapper Carr and Floriana Lima (The Family) as Maggie Sawyer.

Supergirl season 2 begins in the fall.

‘Survivor’ Season 34 Title & Theme Revealed

survivor

It has been rumoured for some time that the 34th season of CBS’ hit reality-gameshow Survivor would feature another batch of familiar faces after the huge success of Survivor Second Chances.

With a Two-Time Winner, numerous Council Jury members and a Perfect Game winner amongst the rumoured cast. The theme for the upcoming All-Star season has been something of a mystery, until now.

Sources out of Inside Survivor have revealed that season 34 will be known as Survivor: Game Changers – The Mamanuca Islands, indicating that the theme will focus on players that have “changed the game” in some way or another.

With the recent era of the long-running show dominated by “Big Move” players – often at the behest of host Jeff Probst – it seems reasonable that such a theme would arise sooner or later. Even if the moniker might not necessarily apply to a majority of the cast.

But I’ll let you decide with the full cast list below:

(Note: I have not listed the two members from the upcoming Survivor: Millennials Vs Gen X to avoid spoilers)

  • Andrea Boehlke (26) Redemption Island, Caramoan (5th, 7th Place)
  • Brad Culpepper (46) Blood Vs. Water (15th Place)
  • Aubrey Bracco (29) Kaoh Rong (Runner-Up)
  • Caleb Reynolds (28) Kaoh Rong (Medevac – 15th Place)
  • Ciera Eastin (27) Blood Vs. Water, Cambodia (5th, 10th Place)
  • Jeff Varner (50) Australian Outback, Cambodia (10th, 17th Place)
  • Cirie Fields (45) Panama, Micronesia, Heroes Vs. Villains (4th, 3rd, 17th Place)
  • JT Thomas (31) Tocantins, Heroes Vs. Villains (Winner, 10th Place)
  • Debbie Wanner (50) Kaoh Rong (9th Place)
  • Malcolm Freberg (29) Philippines, Caramoan (4th, 9th Place)
  • Hali Ford (26) Worlds Apart (11th Place)
  • Ozzy Lusth (34) Cook Islands, Micronesia, South Pacific (Runner-Up, 9th, 4th Place)

‘Survivor: Millennials Vs Gen-X’ Preview

With Survivor Koah-Rong in the can (congrats Michelle “malarkey” Fitzgerald) and the celebration for my first Win with the Survivor Draft (Nailed It!) dying down. Its time to look forward to the Fall, when Survivor returns to Fiji for the first time since 2007 with their 33rd season Survivor: Millennials Vs Gen-x.

In a season that nobody asked for and nobody wanted, CBS has returned to Old Vs Young format that has graced – let’s be honest – some of the least popular seasons like Survivor Exile Island and Nicaragua. But while Panama gave us a 4-way split of Old Men Vs Young Men Vs Old Women Vs Young Women. Season 33 has made use of that buzzword that will plague my generation for years to come … The Millennials.

Survivor The Millennials

Yes, unlike the hard-working and perseverance observed by the Generation-X’ers. Survivors take on The Millennials looks to demonize the younger Tribe with Selfie-Obsessed misnomer and stereotypes lobbied at the ‘inevitable’ laziness that the young up-starts are sure to display.

They might as well subtitled the season Heroes Vs Villains 2 and have done with it.

But while Koah-Rong has amassed a league of Aubrey Braccoloving de-tractors since that Michelle win. The 32nd season gave us a plethora of characters such as the multi-job-titled Debbie to the “love every creatureTai Trang, which judging by the preview-video is set to continue.

Survivor Chris Vs Taylor

First the stereotypes. In the Gen-X corner we have Chris who – with the help of Inside Survivor – we learn is a Trial Attorney at a firm he founded in 2009, epitomises the work ethic and hard work which the Gen-X’ers are famed for. A factor which Chris references to the game, saying that Survivor “is hard work” and won’t be easy as “how fast you can type it into Google to find the answer.

With Technology at the forefront of The Millennials identity, it doesn’t take this years compulsory long-haired-lothario Taylor to get the first Twitter trend in with “#SoleSurvivor“.

Let me back that up with “#FacePalm”.

Survivor Mari

Mari on the other hand doesn’t help matters either. As a Pro-Gammer, she is prime cannon fodder for parents around the world to lament the wasted time a career such as hers can be. Not that Mari cares, rather calling-out the fact that as a Millennial, she is able to make a profession out of what she loves to do.

But Survivor wouldn’t be the show we have loved for so long without some Outcasts thrown into the mix. No, not that terrible twist from Pearl Island. I’m talking about David and Zeke, Tribal opponents in the game with an affinity one another’s ideologies.

I mean, they ain’t no Tai but Zeke’s Hipster-Tache is a marvel. #10thWonderoftheWorld if you will (Damn You Taylor!)

Survivor David

David however is already as endearing as the aforementioned Mr. Trang. His confession that he could have done with “a dozen” participation awards back in his day, gives him a Charlie Brown underdog quality that rivals Spencer Bledsoe himself. Hyperbolic maybe, but like the Second Chancer runner-up, David too has a Chess background that would have him on the Brains Tribe in a heartbeat.

Survivor Zeke

Zeke though, maybe not so much. In what could be a completely inaccurate read, his assertion that he can “hack it” living in the great out-doors, seems at-odds with his high maintenance or ‘well-groomed’ appearance. That tache … Mucho wax needed me thinks.

And like Cydney found out, no branch-chain-amino-acids out there me’lad.

Survivor M Vs G-X

As Survivor fans we have had to grin and bear these gimmicks that Mark Burnett and the team seem to be doubling down on of late.  But to be honest – when paired with a stellar cast – they truly knock it out of the park. I mean after all, both seasons of Brawn Vs Brains Vs Beauty offered up a cacophony of Alpha-players that are sure to return in future seasons and could work in-spite of any gimmick their season is given.

Survivor Gen-x

So while the idea of Millennials Hash-tagging every damn ‘Big-Move’ they make (and the Gen-X’ers condemning every minute of it). After the first swap, we will have to learn the Tribe’s actual names anyway and the big characters will get their chance to shine, regardless of the stereotype thrust upon them in the first half of the game.

And after all is said and done, it isn’t the format that makes the show but the Players themselves. And I for one can’t wait to meet all 20 Castaways when Survivor: Millennials Vs Gen-X returns to CBS this Fall.

CBS Plans ‘MacGyver’ Reboot For Fall

MacGyver-logo

I learned about this on Thursday, and I’ve been silently fuming ever since.  If you haven’t watched the trailer for the new show yet, you can watch it below.  Go ahead… go watch it and come back.  I’ll wait.

Waiting…

OK, now that we’re all on the same page… What in the hell is CBS smoking?  I watched the original series when I was a kid.  I loved it!  I had a huge crush on Richard Dean Anderson… so much so that when he played Col. Jack O’Neill on Stargate: SG1, I watched it too.  I recently binged watched them both again on Hulu.  Ya know, just for nostalgia reasons.  Yeah, that’s totally why.

Why mess with a good thing?

And, why in the hell can’t anyone in the entertainment business come up with an original idea now days?  It’s all reboot this and remake that.  Oh, and when they do have a new and original idea they all suck!

If you’re going to reboot a series that deserved better than what it got, then d@mmit give us that Firefly reboot that we’ve been begging for since 2003!

The premise of this story is that a young MacGyver (played by Lucas Till, X-Men franchise) joins his deceased father’s best friend and partner, Lincoln (played by George Eads, CSI) and they form the Phoenix Foundation.  If you’ll remember from the original series, that’s the place that MacGyver worked.  However, what the makers of this reboot forgot is that the show didn’t start out with Mac working for Phoenix.  He originally worked for some unknown agency that they hinted was the CIA or some other acronym agency… then Pete Thornton (his friend) talked him into going to work for the Phoenix Foundation.  Mac didn’t start it… he just worked there. (I only remember all of this from my recent binge watching activity that was all for science.  Honest.)  Maybe the big wigs at CBS should’ve done some binge watching of their own.

Worst of all?  Richard Dean Anderson isn’t even involved in this one.  He IS MacGyver.

mcgyver

I can see a slight resemblance, but the kid is still no RDA.  The only thing that might save this version is that Executive Producer, Henry Winkler (who was also the EP on the original)… yes, The Fonz… is going to be steering the ship.

A Look At The New Star Trek Show

The characters from Star Trek have been portrayed in many different movies and TV shows. The original Star Trek TV shows and many other TV shows and movies. In 2009, director J.J Abrams gave Star Trek a new look with Star Trek, and shortly after, Star Trek: Into Darkness. Now, in the year 2016, not only is Star Trek: Beyond coming out soon, recently a new Star Trek TV show was announced!

To die hard fans who love Star Trek, this trailer is probably a disappointment. It gives almost no indication if the show is going to be as good (or better) than the originals. But this trailer is only a teaser, and hopefully later in the year, we will see more. The show will premiere in 2016 on CBS.

I will stay posted and hopefully write a blog when we see more. Also, be sure to check out the other blogs on skatronixxx, all of them are awesome. Well, until next time, set your phasers to stun.

‘CBS’ Casts Their ‘Nancy Drew’

sarah-shahi-new-york-post-february-2014_1

CBS already have a super-sleuth in the form of Jonny Lee Miller’s Sherlock Holmes in Elementary, but that hasn’t stopped the Network from bringing everyones favourite girl Detective Nancy Drew to the small screen.

A source out of Entertainment Weekly revealed that the CBS series – simply titled Drew – will offer a grown-up take on the teenage investigator, with the popular long-running series of novels serving as inspiration.

Persons of Interest star Sarah Shahi will play the 30-something Drew, now a hard-nosed NYPD detective, who “investigates and solves crimes using her uncanny observational skills, all while navigating the complexities of life in a modern world.

Shahi will star alongside Vanessa Ferlito as Drew’s former partner, Anthony Edwards as Nancy’s father and Felix Solis, a lieutenant at the NYPD.

The Pilot is yet to shoot but should the series get pick up, it may be only matter of time before we see a crossover with Miller’s Holmes.

Well … we can only hope, right?

‘Hannibal’ Creator Named Showrunner For CBS ‘Star Trek’ Tv Show

startrek

Bryan Fuller, the man behind critically acclaimed shows Pushing Daisies and Hannibal, has been named show runner for CBS’s forthcoming Star Trek Tv series. Which will mark a homecoming for the Producer and screenwriter who cut his teeth writing for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager.

CBS also announced that Alex Kurtzman, who has worked as a writer and producer on the recent Star Trek movies, will serve as Executive-Producer and Co-Creator alongside Fuller. Little detail is known as to whether the series will take place within the Tv continuity established by the original series in 1966 or if it will serve as a spin-off for the alternate timeline of the Kurtzman films.

In a statement released by Fuller, the show runner confirmed his love for the Star Trek universe revealing that his “very first experience of Star Trek is my oldest brother turning off all the lights in the house and flying his model of a D7 Class Klingon Battle Cruiser through the darkened halls. Before seeing a frame of the television series, the Star Trek universe lit my imagination on fire.

He continued to express that “It is without exaggeration a dream come true to be crafting a brand-new iteration of Star Trek with fellow franchise alum Alex Kurtzman and boldly going where no Star Trek series has gone before.

Kurtzman also reciprocated the sentiments shared, remarking that “bringing Star Trek back to television means returning it to its roots, and for years those roots flourished under Bryan’s devoted care. His encyclopedic knowledge of Trek canon is surpassed only by his love for Gene Roddenberry’s optimistic future, a vision that continues to guide us as we explore strange new worlds.

The new series will be the first show made for CBS All Access, the networks Video on demand and live streaming service, and will air in early  2017. The show will have a special preview event on the Network with the rest of the episode being exclusive the VOD service with international markets receiving the show via traditional Tv services and other streaming services around the world.
