Mark Millar Announces Date For 2016 Talent Search Guidelines

Mark_Millar_14115

Mark Millar is the writer and co-creator of such excellent comic books like Jupiter’s Legacy (with Frank Quitely), Kick-Ass (with John Romita Jr),  Chrononauts (with Sean Gordon Murphy) and Huck (with Rafael Albuquerque).

Last year Millar held his first ever talent search through his publishing company Millarworld. Mark was looking for interior artists, cover artists, inkers, colorists and writers to create short stories based on Millar’s comic properties. If chosen the winners would not only be included in the mini-anthology issue but would also be paid the starting page rates that are offered at Marvel and DC. Artists would receive  $200 a page ($120 for a penciler and $80 for an inker) writers would get $90 per page. The cover artist would be paid $450 for black and white, $600 for colour. Mark also would be paying these unknown talents out of his pocket; which is great to see someone as big as Mark do this for the industry.

Mark announced on Twitter today (@mrmarkmillar) that the guidelines for this year’s talent search will be released September 1st, 2016.

So any aspiring comic creatives looking for a big break should follow Mark on Twitter and also check back here as I’ll have an article with links once it’s announced.

The Actual Roger #1 review

Writer: Hank Tucker
Art: Hank Tucker

The Actual Roger is a tale about, well, a boy named Roger. A meteorite lands in his back yard which leads to roger and his best friend, Clay, to be exposed to whatever cosmic radiation the rock contained. The following day, roger and Clay wake up to find they each have a new power! Roger can fly (about a foot and a half) off the ground, and Clay becomes…clay. The Actual Roger is set in a universe in which super heroes are well-known and there’s a government agency set up for training and controlling them. Once this agency gets word of Roger flying around town without registering with them, they take it upon themselves to pair him up with the best hero they have, Magnanimo who doesn’t seem excited to have him around. Can things get any worse? Why not.

This comic is hilarious and well written with a fresh spin on the superhero genre. Hank tucker has produced a great story, and even though I’m not a big fan of the black and white style, I really think it works for the actual roger although it seems lacking in some areas.

Hank tucker has done a wonderful job juggling all the aspects of the story whether writing, art , ink or pencils. The lettering seems to need work but this issue is a job well done.

The actual roger is brilliantly done and is guaranteed to make you chuckle and reach for the next issue.

Pokémoan – Gotta Get ‘Em All! (And Some Fanfic To Get You Started)

il_570xN.1014836674_h4n4

Are you a true, hardcore Pokémon fan? Did you always want to take your relationship with Pokémon to the next level, but not know how? Well, now there’s Pokémoan, sex toys for every fanwoman and man! And, as with every Pokémon trainer, you know that you Gotta Get ‘Em All! (Pokémoan – “Gotta Fuck ‘Em All” is a better tagline – come at me for rights.)

Let’s meet your new best friend via Pokémoan’s Pokésex Data:

bulbadick
‘Bulby’ – A grass type Pokémoan. Bulby has a large seed tip making it a very pleasurable friend to have. It’s seed is 5cm wide and 4cm tall and its body is 16cm tall and 3.5cm wide.

Picture the scene – you’re in the middle of the Viridian Forest*, surrounded by the gentle whisper of the wind and rustling of tree leaves as they glint in the light. A twig breaks nearby, and out steps a Bulbasaur, the massive seed on its back throbbing with an insatiable need.

That’s how I’d assume the fantasy would start for those who choose ‘Bulby’ as their starter Pokémoan. Would bet a solid amount of money it devolves into a BDSM scene, considering how Bulbasaur could use Vine Whip. Unfortunately, this kind of genius thinking doesn’t make it into the toy – it’s a solid, traditional, and not too versatile choice for those less adventurous types. Also, that section of the ‘bulb and where it connects into the shaft looks a little uncomfortable no matter where you put it.

*I know you can’t catch a Bulbasaur in the Viridian Forest. It’s a FANTASY.

charmanderpenis

‘Charmy’ – A slightly thinner, fire type Pokémoan with a flaming tail. Standing 18cm tall and 4cm wide at its widest point Charmy gives intense orgasms everywhere it goes.

You ready for this? Houses in a small mountain village where you have gone for a retreat have spontaneously caught fire. You are running for your life, and are stranded on a grassy hill, flames imminently approaching. You can’t use your Squirtle because you were letting him have a nice rest after putting him through a shit ton of battles recently, and you’re really sorry you put Squirtle up against an Electrobuzz in the last one. Squirtle is probably enjoying a nice spa bath at the moment.

Anyways, you’re up dying on a hill, and this is how your life will probably end – when all of a sudden a wild Charmander breaks out of the wall of flame with a crazy look in his eye. He’s heard your screams and promises to your God in exchange for not letting you die, and one of those phrases was, “I’d even fuck a Charmander!” Charmander lets out a roar and up goes a wall of flame that the other fire can’t penetrate.

But you know who can penetrate you now? Charmander.

As a sex toy, logically it doesn’t make sense – the tip of a Charmander’s tail is literally made out of fire. And I’m not sure how people feel about putting something pointy inside their body. Who knows though? Charmy looks fun and a little dangerous, which is pretty much how I’d sum up that Pokémon.

squirtle

‘Squirty’ – A water Pokémoan. Squirty has a smooth round head with a large grooved turtle shell on its back. Its bubbly head measures 4cm wide whilst his body measures 6cm wide and 14cm tall.

Remember when I said your Squirtle was relaxing in a nice spa bath? Well, you are now too, especially after your foray with the fire of death. Your eyes are closed, and your head tilted back as you splay out against the bath, when you suddenly feel a gentle lapping between your thighs and a wetness that has nothing to do with the water…
Out of all the Pokémoan toys, Squirty is the most well-integrated one. You can’t actually fuck Bulbasaur’s bulb or Charmander’s tail, but you could play around with Squirtle’s head. Hehe. It doesn’t seem like Squirtle vibrates (maybe the Wartortle will) but still looks like this Pokémoan trainer could do pretty well by this Pokémoan.

pikachu

‘Piky’ – This small electric type anal Pokémoan is a perfect size for the average Pokémoan trainer. Piky is an extremely cute yet essential addition to your team. Its insertable size is 2.5cm wide by 4cm tall and his tail is 8cm long.

I’m not going to write a Pikachu fantasy. I do hold some things sacred, like my favorite childhood Pokémon.

But you can stick this in your butt and pretend to be a Pikachu! $5 and a Piky that this toy proves to be the most popular of all in establishments where people go around naked and pretend to be Pokémon and engage in fantasies. Is that a thing yet? Pretty sure it exists somewhere. Because the internet.

What are you waiting for?! Go and get ‘em all! Every Pokémoan trainer is different and you’ll want to be prepared for all sorts of various situations like forests and fires and pools. So – do you have what it takes to be a Pokémoan Master?

LFCC Presents “Suicide Squad” Costume Showcase

LFCC Logo

With Suicide Squad hitting cinema’s August 5th, London Film and Comic Con would be crazy to pass up on the chance to get involved – so this weekend, the con showcased all of the major costumes from the movie – the screen used, real deal costumes too.

Displayed in a penned off area, complete with giant cardboard cut outs, the costumes were displayed in glass cases, complete with manequinns shaped like the actors (including faces).

Enchantress1

Enchantress2

The costume show included Enchantress’s intricate and minimalist outfit, complete with completely creepy floor length black wig that we can only imagine wreaked havoc on poor Cara Delavingne’s (Paper Towns, Anna Karenina, Kids in Love) head.

Enchantress4

Harley Quinn1

Harley Quinn2

Everyone’s favourite Harley Quinn, portrayed by Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street, Tarzan, Focus), was also present – this costume has many beautiful, detailed and intricate parts that the Con allowed you to see up close. This included the sparkly hot pants, belt, the fishnet tights, the high heeled sneaker style shoes, the jock-jacket – and, of course, the baseball bat.

Deadshot1Deadshot2Deadshot3

Will Smith’s (I Am Legend, Men in Black, Independence Day) Deadshot was also there, complete with focus eye-piece, armour and weapons holsters. To also hold the line up included Captain Boomerang’s (Jai Courtney – Divergent, A Good Day to Die Hard, Terminator Genisys) costume, complete with lethal boomerangs, thick leather jacket and duct-taped up combat boots.

Costumes also featured included Katana’s (Karen Fukuhara Suicide Squad), Killer Croc’s (Adewake Akinnuoye-Adbaje – The Bourne Identity, Thor: The Dark World, Lost), Diablo’s (Jay HernandezHostel, Quarantine, The Rookie), and last but not least, Jared Leto’s (Panic Room, Requiem for a Dream, Dallas Buyers Club) The Joker – complete with suit, and jewel-encrusted cane.

To round off this amazing display is a giant cardboard cut out of the entire cast – with a gap large enough to fit pleased Comic Con attendees who want to chance to pose with the anti-heroes before they hit the big screen.

It’s clear from the incredible display, which allows you to be as up-close and personal to the costumes without touching them, that the costume designers on this movie put a lot of heart, thought, effort and a tonne of fun into creating individual and unique pieces that completely fit their characters.

Karl Urban Shows Off New Look For Thor: Ragnarok

rsz_1thor-comic-skurge

So the people who attended SDCC have already been treated to an early look at Thor: Ragnarok via a comical mockumentary alongside images of Thor and Lokis new looks.

No clips of this have yet to leak onto the internet so it looks as though Marvel did a good job of making sure this did not happen. Attendees were also treated to a look at Hulks planet hulk armour this did make it online and was covered by myself in a previous article which can be found here Surtur Confirmed For Thor Ragnarok

Karl Urban released his new look via his Facebook page with the caption “Less is more for Thor” and it shows that he has gone bald for his role as Skurge The Executioner.

rsz_conr8hsuiaavwt2

In the comics Skurge is originally an Asgadrian Super-villain who carried out Loki’s dirty work with a magic double-bladed battle axe, but turned good guy to help delay Ragnarok (The Norse apocalypse).

We have not been told how Skurge will fit into the Thor: Ragnarok story line yet but I’m sure we will find out more once the next batch of information on the film is released.

Thor: Ragnarok is due to hit Cinemas in the UK on July 28th 2017.

Jeremy Renner has “Some Really Cool Ideas” for Hawkeye in the Future

Friday 29th July – Sunday 31st July 2016 were the official dates of one of London’s biggest and most anticipated conventions – London Film and Comic Con. The Con has played host to some massive names in both the comic book and movie world, and this year was no different, with guests such as various members of the Game of Thrones cast, Famke Janssen (How to Get Away with Murder, X-Men, Hemlock Grove), Jeremy Renner (Thor, The Hurt Locker, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol) and several wrestlers, artists and tv/movie stars.

LFCC Logo.png

This Saturday featured a panel for Jeremy Renner, with a brief introduction and a few questions from the host – then the rest of the panel was taken to the floor for fan questions.

During these questions, Renner said that he still doesn’t consider himself an action hero. Despite his role as an avenger in the Marvel Studios releases, and his role in a Bourne movie (The Bourne Legacy), Renner says he always prefers the human side of his roles, and doesn’t focus on the action side of things. He then jokingly adds that he agreed to the role of Hawkeye because “he doesn’t fly around, have a suit, armour or lightening arrow – he has no friggin’ superpowers! I can do that!”

HAwkeye

Upon being asked the question, would he consider a Bourne crossover with Matt Damon, Renner nodded eagerly and said he’d absolutely love to – but that unfortunately, a decision like this is out of his pay grade.

He also emphasised (when asked if he’s pressured by agents or producers to take particular roles) “I do what I wanna do, always.” He also mentioned that he has no favourite roles he’s ever played as he doesn’t believe in it. Renner says that every role is his favourite role (“or I wouldn’t have taken the job.)

RennerPanel1

When Jeremy was asked what his most difficult role to play was, he answers without hesitation that it was Jeffery Dahmer (Dahmer, 2002). “It was completely terrifying.” He says, talking sincerely about how difficult it was to get into that sort of headspace when he himself can barely comprehend the horrific crimes that Dahmer committed. He mentions how he worked incredibly hard to find a “way in” to that role, into that human’s headspace, and how he had to find the psychological way in to play him convincingly. And it certainly worked – the film holds mostly mixed to positive reviews, praising Renner for his performance.

On the topic of weirdness, Renner also explains that his strangest fan encounter (“It’s like picking a favourite role. I have a lot of these odd experiences.”) took place at a urinal – involving the person trying to take a selfie with them both at the urinal, and saying “But it’s for my son man!” – Renner says that the statement made the whole thing weirder. So he began using cubicles instead to try and retain privacy, which doesn’t always work. “I see this hand, coming up under the cubicle door, with an iPhone in it. And man.” Renner laughs, all good natured and lively.

RennerPanel2

A fan then puts their hand up and asks which life he’d prefer his character in The Avengers to live – the stay-at-home family man, or as the hero? Jeremy pauses, then grins and goes “Did you just ask me how I wanna die?” As the crowd laughs, Renner cuts in with “Dies a hero or daddy has a heart attack at home? Come on man!” – and then he says he hasn’t seen Captain America: Civil War yet and asks”Do I die in that?”

Renner then goes on to say that he loves playing Hawkeye, and confesses to the crowd that his role in the first Avenger’s movie (The Avengers/Avenges Assemble), actually made him incredible frustrated. “I was so excited to play this character and then he gets made into a lifeless zombie for the whole movie” – as a result of this, Renner had barely any room to find out more about Clint Barton. He says he prefers the later movies, such as Age of Ultron and Captain America: Civil War as he had much more screen-time and humanity to explore for the character.

RennerPanel3

The actor then laughs and says he isn’t done playing Hawkeye yet, so he doesn’t want him to die – he’s got “some real cool, real awesome” ideas coming up (earning a round of applause) – “amazing ways to die.” he quips, nodding to the fan who asked the initial question.

Asked if there’s any chance of a Hawkeye solo movie, Renner responds “it’d be kinda cool – but I don’t make those decisions” – sorry, Hawkeye fans! But maybe a Netflix series..?

Renner is asked more questions about his creative future. When asked if he always wants to just be an actor, or if he’d like to direct, Renner nods very eagerly. He explains he’d love to direct a movie – but when his baby (Ava Berlin) is older. His reason being it’s a huge commitment – that you have to be there “before, during the whole process, there for editing and the cutting room floor, and then all the press and premieres after” – and he wants to wait because his baby comes first.

Finally, the last question of the day is a fan who asks what we’re all waiting for – what more do we have to look forward to from Jeremy Renner? The actor responds that he’s currently working on a science-fiction movie with Amy Adams (Enchanted, American Hustle, Man of Steel) named Arrival. He explains it should be coming out in November, and that it’s a smart, thoughtful and very accessible alien movie, and that he’s very excited for the release.

AmyAdams
Overall, it was a very informative and fun panel – despite doing hours worth of photo-shoots with fans in the morning and the afternoon, Jeremy Renner remains active, engaging and totally polite to his fans. He’s been a fantastic addition to the weekend line-up, and fingers crossed he comes back for another year!

Spider-Man: Homecoming, Villan Announced!

Marvel has revealed some news about Spider-Man: Homecoming that isn’t casting news – finally.

HomecomingLogo

At San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, Marvel finally let fans know who the villain of their latest Spider-Man franchise will be, and they revealed it’ll be The Vulture himself.

spider-man-homecoming-vulture-concept-art-meinerding-d5c90

There were always strong rumours about The Vulture appearing, and that he would be portrayed by Michael Keaton (Birdman, Need for Speed, Batman Returns – 1992), however, these rumours were never confirmed. But with the release of some stunning concept art, we can safely say one and for all that The Vulture is coming.

Vulture

In the released concept art, you can very clearly see Spidey facing the Vulture – and you can also see he won’t be sporting his usual neon green gown. Instead, what we’re looking as is a dark green, high tech suit, with massive mechanical wings and wicked metal talons.

Those who were lucky enough to see the trailer they release at SDCC this year have also eagerly confirmed that the concept art is accurate to his brief appearance in said trailer.

Spiderman SDCC

Rumours do speculate that Vulture’s flight suit is based on technology left behind by the Chitaru after the infamous Battle of New York between Loki’s army and The Avengers in The Avengers/Avengers Assemble. Looking at the construction of the wings in the image, it is not a stretch at all to assume this would be true.

This also lends itself to another rumour that’s been going around – whilst we’re all aware of the rumours that some of the cast are supposedly going to be villains, and one will supposedly be The Tinkerer – this would make plenty of sense as he could A) build the flight suit, and B) The Vulture originally enlists The Tinkerer’s skills in the original comics aswell.

TheTinkerer

Overall, Spider-Man: Homecoming looks like it’s to be the hit of the summer, with a blend of heavy-hitting fight scenes and teenage perils of homework and high school that will create the Spider-Man movie fans have been begging for. The official synopsis reads;

“A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland (Captain America: Civil War, Billy Elliot: The Musical Live, In The Heart of the Sea)), who made his sensational debut in Marvel Studios’ Captain: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging superhero in Spider-Man: Homecoming.”

SpidermanTomHolland

Spider-Man: Homecoming is due for release on 7th July 2017, and will star Tom Holland, Robert Downey. Jr (Iron Man, The Judge, Charlie Bartlett), Zendaya, (Shake it Up!, Zapped, Frenemies) Marisa Tomei (The Wrestler, What Women Want, Empire)and many. Many. Many. MANY more.

Natasha Stark: An Alternate Universe’s Tony Stark

Natasha_Stark_(Earth-3490)

Natasha Stark, parallel lady to our Tony Stark… Actually she is Tony Stark, in another universe. This called Earth 3490, where she is known as Iron Woman, instead of the other (duh). Also, she is married to …. Captain America!

This alternate world is discovered by Reed Richards, while looking for an alternate ending to the Civil War. In this world, there wasn’t a war since Cap and Natasha are romantically involved. In fact in this alternate world, every conflict is solved peacefully. Sounds nice, doesn’t it? Hank Pym is not an issue, due to him being in prison.

Earth-3490.png

Now this is just not fair.. Tony Stark is fine, ok. He is a hottie superhero, and now we have him in woman form? Jesus, talk about the hottest woman on the planet!! And I am not talking about looks only ladies and gentlemen… but let’s talk about her personality here. I mean, with her being female version of Tony Stark, then she has to be just like him right? As in confident, snarky, super intelligent… Probably every man’s dream right there. And yet she is married to the Cap. Now I know Steve was always on Tony about stuff, you would watch these two bicker like an old married couple… Lol so you can’t help but wonder how they are married in the alternate universe!!

You can find issues with Natasha Stark in two issues of the Dark Rein: Fantastic 4 and the third issues in “Squirrel Girl Wins a Date With Thor” in the comics Secret Wars: Secret Love. Plus if you want just for fun, you can find him as a woman in the Secret Wars 4 issue where him and all the Avengers are … Gwen! LOL!! Yes they are all blonde haired beauties, including the Hulk!! (I almost bought this one yesterday…)
