Chris Hemsworth’s Body Scared John Krasinski Off Cap Role

krasinski-conan

Imagine an alternate universe, where the Marvel Cinematic Universe got cast in a completely different way. Rumour has it that Tom Cruise was in the running for Iron Man, Joaquin Phoenix could have been the Hulk, and Emily Blunt could have been Black Widow. But Blunt did not choose wisely, and honoured her commitment to a turkey of enormous proportions, Jack Black vehicle Gulliver’s Travels. Well played, Em! Her husband John Krasinski (The Office) was almost part of the franchise too, as he made the shortlist to play Captain America. (Fun Fact: If you go on IMDB trivia, you will see that John Krasinski was short listed for loads of major movie roles…. There’s sooo many!)

Krasinski got the enviable experience of auditioning for the role of Cap, and even got to wear the famous suit. However, Krasinski told Conan O’Brien on a recent episode of his talk show that he pulled out of the shortlist after meeting Thor star Chris Hemsworth. Krasinski said “I was putting on the suit, and I got right to my waist, I was still shirtless. I was feeling pretty good about myself. I wasn’t 13 Hours yet, but felt pretty good. And then all of a sudden, Chris Hemsworth walks by as Thor, and goes, ‘Hey, mate.’ And I was like, ‘I’m good. This is stupid. I’m not Captain America.'”

He’s not given up hope though. Krasinski is a huge Marvel fan and would love to be part of the Universe – possibly as a villain. Considering everyone on the planet appears to be getting featured in Avengers: Infinity War, surely there’s got to be something he can do!

The episode of Conan aired on 24th August. Watch the clip here:

Crow Reboot Set To Start Filming January 2017

rsz_1download.jpg

The Crow reboot is due to the big screen soon and is rumored to be starring Jason Momoa who is currently filming his part for Justice League as Aquaman the actor will head to the set of The Crow once filming has finished. Corin Hardy is reportedly back in the directors chair despite leaving in early 2016.

The Crow is based of a comic book by James O’Barr so this means that Momoa will go from comic book film to comic book film for some time as he is set to start filming the solo Aquaman film that is due for release in 2018.

Momoa will star as the lead role Eric Draven the lead role in the Brandon Lee adaption and the comic books. O’Barr has told fans that the reboot will definitely happen despite the production companies money issues that seems to have plagued the film since it was announced it would be rebooted.

O’Barr loved the original but stressed the following at a panel

“The new movie is not a remake of the Brandon Lee film. It’s going right back to the book; it’s like a literal page-for-page adaptation of the book.”

“The trains, the horses, the talking bird, all the visual metaphors. The death figures throughout the thing.”

O’Barr also told fans he also has “control of the soundtrack again,” O’Barr will also be working closely with the director on development of the film.

O’Barr also said “It’s going to be good, it’s going to be really good. And it’s going to be closer to Taxi Driver than to John Woo. The violence is supposed to be ugly, you know? I’m very happy with everything,”

First Look: Fans Sneak A Peek At Spielberg’s Ready Player One Set

rp1

Fans of Ernest Cline’s video game dystopian novel Ready Player One have been treated to some early set photos from the upcoming movie adaptation. The film, due for release in March 2018, is shooting in the UK under the direction of Steven Spielberg. The story is set in America, 2045, and depicts a world where people are desperate to escape their miserable lives in the wake of an energy crisis that has destroyed society. They do this through virtual reality, and our hero Wade Watts (Tye SheridanX-Men: Apocalypse) has a chance to get out of his hellish life by trying to win a competition set by eccentric game genius James Halliday (Mark RylanceThe BFGor indeed, everything. He’s the new Samuel L Jackson!)

Fans have taken to Twitter to share their pictures of the set dressing, transforming the 2016 streets of Birmingham (this is where I avoid making any jokes about Birmingham being a prime location for a dystopian future) into Cline’s futuristic landscape. Although, you’d be forgiven for being confused about the time period – the novel features a lot of 1980’s pop culture references (Halliday is a fan of the decade of mullets, and a working knowledge of such trivia is required to solve his puzzles). So while you may not expect to see references to Thundercats and Gremlins in 2045, there they are.  I wonder if the good people of Brum will be allowed to keep them….?

Check out the on-set action via the fans on Twitter:

Sheridan and Rylance are joined by a fantastic cast, including Olivia Cooke (Bates Motel), T J Miller (Silicon Valley), Ben Mendelsohn (Bloodline) and Simon Pegg (Hot Fuzz). The movie is due for release 30th March 2018.

Katie Cassidy To Appear Regularly On Arrow Season 5?

kc-arrow

Katie Cassidy (Arrow, Supernatural) said at Salt Lake City Comic-Con that she would be appearing in Arrow‘s season 5 premiere “Legacy”. She has also made it very clear to those present that she is more than likely to appear in the other CW DC Comics shows (The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl). She has recently signed a contract that allows her to do so. She is one of the few, besides John Barrowman (Arrow, Dr. Who, Torchwood) and Wentworth Miller (Legends of Tomorrow, Prison Break), to have received such a contract.

Since Laurel Lance and therefore the Black Canary were killed during the battle with Damian Darkh (Neil MC Donough) and H.I.V.E. in season 4 it is unlikely we would see her in the present day and more likely to see her in flashbacks or memories from others. Although dead doesn’t necessarily mean dead in the DC Universe, but that aside.

As the big bad of season 4 is now defeated all can deal with the sudden death of Laurel Lance and what impact that has had on their lives. So if everything is wrapped up with the aftermath of Laurel’s death we might close that the Laurel Lance chapter on Arrow.

I am curious to find out though what Laurel said to Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) with her dying breath. We are bound to find that out in the upcoming season. Although somethings might linger on a bit longer than just season 5. Who knows? To be continued….

Aquaman To Film In Australia

rsz_jason-momoa-aquaman-fan-art-color.jpg

So according to the Daily Telegraph the new Aquaman movie is set to be heading to Australia for pre-production and this will begin before Christmas.

It has not yet officially been announced but it would make sense as Village Roadshow Studios boasts the largest built film purpose water tank in the country. Plus Warner Brothers has a long standing relationship with the company.

The only snag to filming in this location would be due to the issues that Amber Heard caused by breaking Australia’s strict biosecurity by not declaring her two Yorkshire Terriers when her and then husband Johnny Depp into the country with false documents. Heard was placed on a one month good behavior bond and fined $1000 for producing the fake document.

“When contacted yesterday, the Australian Department of Immigration and Border Protection would not comment on whether or not Heard’s history would impact her visa application,” reports The Daily Telegraph.

The film is set to star Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones) as Aquaman, Amber Heard (Machete Kills) as Mera, and Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man) as Atlantean politician Vulko.

Aquaman is set to hit cinemas on July 27th 2018.

Book Review: “A Court of Mist and Fury” by Sarah J. Maas

A Court of Mist and Fury is Sarah J. Maas’s stunning sequel to A Court of Thorns and Roses. The sequel follows Feyre after the horrific events Under the Mountain, and how they haunt her even in the home of her fiancé whom she fought to save. But Rhysand still has his bargain to call in, and as she’s drawn further into the High Lords Court and his tangled politics, Feyre finds it harder and harder to know who to trust…

A Court of Mist and Fury is a truly incredible sequel, that far excels all expectations – possibly Sarah J. Maas’s best so far. I did enjoy A Court of Thorns and Roses, but the follow-up proved a lot of thoughts and theories about how this book would go very incorrect, and it’s also just such a massive step up on every single level.

ACOMAF - Cover

Firstly, the story this time around is so much darker. Now that we’ve established this world Feyre is in, the characters and the curses and trials they were under, we can branch off into a new and exciting quest, which is exactly what this is. The story this time seems to hold much more weight – obviously, the first book was dark, with a terrible curse and a sick and wicked villain, but this sequel kicks it up to an entire new level, with more horrors, fantasy and monsters to delight and horrify the audience.

The character development in this book is absolutely off the scales – and in ways I honestly didn’t see coming. I saw certain relationships going certain ways, and I thought it’d be a glaringly obvious and fairly quick occurrence – but it wasn’t. It was wonderfully, realistic and so faultlessly paced. I was so pleased with how these characters came along, and so heavily invested in their growth.

Rhysand was my favourite surprise – I knew from the end of the first book that Maas would try and make him somewhat sympathetic, but after all he did in the first book (obviously excluding the things he was controlled to do), I was fully prepared to dig my heels in and maybe come out begrudgingly respecting him. Rhysand is now my favourite character. His story and character are focussed on a lot more in this volume, and Maas does not waste a second of it. He’s an incredibly interesting character, and he and his entire court are so majestic, colourful and nothing like I expected. Everything is so beautifully and tragically paced, delicately revealed and is just such a wonderful portrayal of a character who is morally grey for all the right reasons.

Without spoiling too much, I’ll also say this – as tragic and anger inducing as it is, Tamlin’s character and the way in which he has changed in this volume might not be pretty, but once again, it’s entirely realistic. Its such a harsh reveal, and it works so incredibly well with the story and the development of other characters.

ACOMAF - Spine

Alongside the fantastic development of our current cast, we also have some stunning new ones. Monsters, fae and new races alike join the fray, and are each individual, shining characters who each have a strong purpose in this book, and help push Feyres story along naturally.

Maas also handles some very heavy themes in this book, and she manages to handle them both starkly and gracefully all at once. This book touches on trauma, rape, PTSD, abusive relationships, and how being neutral in the face of these things helps nobody but the perpetrators. I’m blown away by how well all of this was handled, without being crudely graphic but whilst being very detailed and honest about these scenarios. The characters also develop realistically around these things – not necessarily correctly, not tidily, but indeed realistically.

I will say that this book, on top of being darker, is a lot more sexual. The sex scenes certainly aren’t Fifty Shades of Feyre, but they are graphic enough that I’d give this a solid PG15, and there’s quite a few of them scattered throughout the book from very early chapters until the end.

The world building in this book is impressive – and fear not, you get to see other Courts in A Court of Mist and Fury, probably more than you’re expecting, along with other magical and horrifying landmarks. This whole world is so utterly vivid and imaginative, and the characters fit so splendidly into it. The politics and laws of lands and courts are also laid out descriptively and clearly – even the most brutally unfair ones. It makes for a strong world, from the smallest and seemingly most petty details to the large and in-your-face ones, and it only makes this fantasy world much more alive – it helps the characters thrive in it and lays a solid foundation for their growth and their story to build upon.

ACOMAF - Spine and Cover

A Court of Mist and Fury is damned close to a faultless book. It’s magical, it’s romantic and it’s real, dealing delicately and honestly with tough subjects, subjects that are very human and that are sometimes left out of fantasy fiction. This truly may be my favourite book so far out of all of Sarah J. Maas’s books – it made me laugh, smile, cry and get real angry, multiple times – and that’s what all good books should do. The world she’s built is wickedly smart, and is both beautiful and horrifying at once. Her characters are multi-faceted, constructed well and with intention. Everything from the plot, to the world she’s built, to the characters and their courts and laws that live within it, all thrive and grow off of each other, and it’d absolutely stunning. Please make this series your next series to read, because I couldn’t recommend it more, and Maas is currently working on the third in this series.

Review of Croak #1

croak1

As summer reaches an end, fall approaches quickly, along with the cold air, colourful leaves and the realisation that winter is coming. It also means Halloween,  making a great atmosphere for reading horror comics.

Croak #1 starts off like a typical horror film from the 80’s or 90’s involving teenagers. Three friends are going camping. There is some friction between 2 of the friends and things are forgotten in their vehicle forcing them to camp good hours walk away without cover in an unfamiliar area.

I can’t say much more without spoiling the story. Croak is a slower paced first issue that could leave you uninterested if not for the ending. It is certainly the highlight of the comic and worth waiting for.

Many people say that you have only one issue to hook a reader. While I understand that mentality, I think it’s ridiculous. I usually give a new comic three issues to determine if I want to support the book unless the first one is complete garbage. I honestly just need enough to carry me to the next issue. The reason I give a series a chance like this is there are so many ways to tell a story, and everyone is different. To say one issue or bust is unfair and not logical.

croak 3

I’m not sure where writer Cody Andrew Sousa is going with croak story wise all I know is it has a lot of possibilities, and I like that a lot. It makes the reader think between issue releases, and that’s what you want a comic to do.

The art by Francesco Iaquinta and the colours by Chris O’Halloran  certainly fits the type of story that’s being told. While their art is nothing ground breaking or different but it is done decently, this isn’t slight against their hard work just an observation.

Overall this is a slightly above average issue with a story that has the potential to be excellent. It’s certainly worth seeing what is going to happen next in issue 2.

7/10

You can pick up Croak #1 for $2.99usd on Comixology

Croak #2 will be released October 5th, 2016

Stephen Amell Reveals How He Would Feel If Arrow Was Recast For DCEU

rsz_amell-not-upset-over-dceu-green-arrow

So Stephen Amell has now reveled how he would feel if the Green Arrow was portrayed by another actor whilst doing a panel during Salt Lake City Comic Con and someone even managed to catch it all and upload it to Youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3O4hzI3kdtM

Here’s what Stephen Amell had to say

“I do not have a right to Oliver Queen. Someone played it played it before me. Someone voiced it before me. Somebody will play it after me. I don’t believe that there are plans for Oliver Queen in the DC Extended Universe, based off things that people have told me, but I would not be upset if that changed at all.”

So he has given a good answer here that he is not fussed if they use another actor for the role he plays in the TV series. This may be confusing to some people as about a year ago he mentioned that Grant Gustin should have been used as the movie version of The Flash as well as the TV series but he has now gone back to clarify what he meant by this.

It appears that he was more frustrated at the timing of the announcement of Ezra Miller playing the big screen version of The Flash as it took away from the action that was happening on the small screen.

DC seem to be fond of keeping both the small screen and big screen version of there characters separate with Grant Gustin playing The Flash on the small screen and Ezra Miller for the movies also we have Tyler Hoechlin playing Superman in the Super Girl TV series and Henry Cavill playing the Man Of Steel on the big screen. We have yet to be told if Green Arrow will be included as a big screen adaption and have not yet been advised of an alternative actor who is lined up to take up the role but some DC fans are calling for Matt Damon to take on the role.

So there you have it and as always stick with @Deadpool_1984 only at skatronixxx.com

SyFy Series: The Expanse Update

Hey, y’all! Deven B here. I’m taking my own sweet time getting to S1 Ep7 of our favorite SyFy series: The Expanse. Don’t worry, I promise it’s on the way! This damn work thing seems to want to keep me away from what I really like to do which is camp out in front of my TV and escape into space with Miller, Holden, and the rest of The Expanse universe.

In the meantime I’ve been following the guys on twitter and checking the internet-verse for news and updates. Occasionally, I’m late on some of the news so if you’ve seen this already, awesome!

The biggest news to hit lately is it looks like a fan favorite from the book series, Robert “Bobbie” Draper, will join the story in the second season. Bobbie Draper will be played by newcomer Frankie Adams.

Frankie Adams for Skatronixxx

Other exciting news I’ve come across is the fact that the TV series is still only 2/3rds of the way through the first book. However, show runner Naren Shankar admits that he’s been jumping between books to make the show flow better.

When asked, Shankar does let on that other popular characters from the books will be introduced in season 2.

SyFy brings the popular series back in early 2017. Stay tuned to Skatronnixxx.com for news and updates on The Expanse.
