Luke Skywalker, Kylo Ren And The Starkiller Base … JJ. Abrams Reveals More

hand.png

Whoever that is, is missing a hand, hmmm who could it be? – Skatronixxx

Fans have been waiting for news of everyone’s favourite Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker, since the announcement that Mark Hamill would return to his most famous role. Yet information of where the offspring of Darth Vader will be when The Force Awakens hits our screens a month from now has been shrouded in darkness.

But rest assured Skywalker fans, Director JJ. Abrams has confirmed that the Jedi has far from been forgotten … by fans at the very least.

In an exclusive interview with EW, Abrams explained that the galaxy has moved on since the defeat of The Empire above Endor in The Return of the Jedi. ‘It was the thing that struck me the hardest, which was the idea that doing a story that took place nearly 40 years after Jedi meant that there would be a generation for whom Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia would be as good as a myth.’ Abrams continued ‘they’d be as old and as mythic as the tale of King Arthur. They would be characters who they may have herd of, but maybe not. They’d be characters who they might believe existed, or just sounded like a fairytale.’

Abrams, who also co-wrote the script, talked about new-comer Rey (played by Daisy Ridley) explaining that the young scavenger, from the desert planet of Jakku, would not have the ‘formal education or support system” to have knowledge of the heroes from the original saga, Jedi’s or even the Force. So the idea that someone like that would begin to learn that the Jedi were real, and that the Force exists, and that there’s a power in the universe that sounds fanciful but is actually possible, was an incredibly intriguing notion.’

Abrams also revealed the idea that various characters hold different pieces of history that makes it hard for any one truth to present itself. Using John Boyega’s character Finn as an example, Abrams elaborated that his background as a Stormtrooper would mean that his worldview of characters such as Han. Wouldn’t ‘feel as magical or mythical’ because they are seen as enemies of The Empire in which Finn serves.

Speaking of bad guys. The Force Awakens Domnhall Gleeson also spoke of his nefarious General Hux , describing him as a ‘kind of opposite Kylo Ren.’ Ren (played by Adam Driver) who has been the new Saga’s poster boy for much of the marketing for the upcoming blockbuster. Appears to be on a pilgrimage to finish what Darth Vader started in the original films. Much like his character, Rens motives are as shadower as the dark side that the (presumed) Sith Lord commands. But from what Gleeson reveals, Kylo may have to get past Hux himself before the Sith can gain true power: ‘They have their own relationship, which is individual and unusual. One of them is strong in different ways than the other. They’re both vying for power.’

Gleeson certainly presents Hux as the top dog of The New Order in The Force Awakens. ‘There’s an air of superiority, and being better than those people around you.’ The British actor also described his villain as “pretty ruthless” explaining that Hux’s weapon is to use other people to get what he wants.

Like General Moff Tarkin before him, Hux ultimately craves complete order. ‘It’s a desire to lump everything in its place and just have power. The desire for power is hugely motivating for a lot of people and normally the people that want all the power are not the ones that should have it.’

Abrams also gave details on the Starkiller Base, out of which the evil New Order operate: ‘It is very much — and it’s acknowledged as such in the movie — apparently another Death Star,’ said the director. ‘But what it’s capable of, how it works, and what the threat is, is far greater than what the Death Star could have done. Starkiller Base is another step forward, technologically speaking, in terms of power.’

With the most information released so far. The hype train is steadily building pace as The Force Awakens quickly approaches.

A Catch Up Interview With American Actress Amber Dawn Fox

amberdawnfox
It’s one of the #SkatFamily members Amber! – Skatronixxx
Way back at the start of 2015 one of the very first people I interviewed was my friend Amber who was well known for playing the role of Officer Bello on The Walking Dead. But what has Amber been upto since the start of the year? I was lucky to be given the chance to have a quick catch up interview with Amber, so lets see what she has been up to in 2015!
—————————————————————————————————————————————————-
1) We last spoke to you in February this year, it’s been a while how have you been?
I have been great thanks! It has been quite the year. Since February, I have done about 2 dozen conventions around the US and Canada, filmed a few indie movies, and had fun preparing for next year.
2) I know that ‘Realm’ is progressing nicely, but how would you explain your character and Realm to someone who is not familiar with it yet?
Realm is in the development stages right now. It will be a series of movies based off of the Realm novels by Kayla A. Lambert. The first book Realm: The Blood Moon is out on Amazon. I will be playing Agnes, who is the head witch. Realm is a supernatural/sci-fi drama and my character is a witch who is out for revenge and wants to destroy a small town. It is a unique twist to such a popular genre – vampires, witches, werewolves, demons, etc.
3) I heard a rumour that you may be making a return to ‘The Walking Dead’, is this true?
I’m not sure how that rumor started! I would love to go back if asked. I know that some fans started a petition to bring me back..and with that show you never know. As of right now, there are no plans to go back on though.
4) You’ve been very busy doing conventions, all over America, do you have any lined up for 2016? Also can we expect to see you at any in the UK next year?
The only convention I have lined up so far for 2016 is a con cruise in June of next year. Details are up on my websitewww.amberdawnfox.com  I would love to do more though, especially in the UK. Fans can always contact their local conventions and suggest me..it works some of the time!
5) Finally Halloween and Christmas are fast approaching, do you have a favourite and any possible New Year’s resolutions for 2016?
This year has flown by. For next year, I just want to do my best to balance family and this crazy career journey I am on. It’s not always easy..but most definitely worth it.

Han Solo Prequel Will Be Star Wars Writers Last Film With The Franchise

hansolo

Will there be a baby Chewie? – Skatronixxx

Legendary Star Wars scribed Lawrence Kasdan has confirmed that the next Star Wars prequel about smuggler Han Solo’s early years will be his last film with the franchise.

Kasdan spoke with German tabloid Bild about his experiences on working across four films in total saying: “I have now made four Star Wars movies. That’s more than enough.”

Kasdan co-wrote one of the most popular instalments with The Empire Strikes Back in 1980 before returning for The Return of the Jedi in 1983 to close off George Lucas’ original trilogy. Kasdan would eventually be tempted back to the galaxy far-far away when screenwriter Michael Arndt dropped out of The Force Awakens, eventually becoming producer and co-writing the script alongside Director JJ. Abrams.

Kasdan’s last script for the franchise in fact only exists on the behest of his family who pressured him to get involved with Star Wars anthology project.

As of yet little is known of the Han Solo prequel story other than reports that British actors Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max, X-Men:Days of future past) and Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service) have been tapped to be in contention to play the young smuggler when the film hits our screens in 2018.

Meanwhile The Force Awakens opens next month with the first Star Wars anthology Rogue One opening 16 December, 2016.

Arrow Writer Wishes They Could Use DC’s Batman

arrowgotham.png

Would you want to see an Arrow-Gotham crossover? Or an adult Batman in Arrow? – Skatronixxx

As super producer Greg Berlanti quickly corners the market on DC TV shows with CW’s Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow and CBS’s Supergirl falling under the same banner. One elusive vigilante has still managed to escape the producers grasp considering that even NBC’s cancelled Constantine made his Arrow debut last week.

‘I love Batman’, revealed co-creator of Arrow, Marc Guggenheim, and writer on the show. ‘He’s probably my favourite DC character and of course I’d love to see him on Arrow, but you know, that’s just not in the cards anytime soon.’

That statement certainly seems apt given that a young Bruce Wayne is going through his own journey on Fox’s Gotham, currently in its second season. ‘So it remains a fantasy, but we have so many other fantasies and pipe dreams of ours have come true, I really have no complaints.’

On the numerous cameos on Arrow, Guggenheim further elaborated on the creative process of introducing established characters on the show. ‘We always say we never set out to introduce this many DC characters, you know, on the screen. Even by the end of season one of Arrow when we had done Deathstroke much sooner than we planned, we had never planned on doing Huntress, we didn’t plan on introducing Roy Harper so soon.’ The news that fan favourite Roy Harper’s introduction was unplanned seems surprising considering the character stayed around for three seasons, Until actor Colton Haynes left for pastures new. ‘To look at where we are now, you know, four years, two going on three shows in, it’s like, how did this happen? And we’re always pinching ourselves.’

With fans awaiting a major cross-over event to kick start CW’s third superhero show, The Legends of Tomorrow. The Arrow writer revealed the plan for this years most anticipated event. ‘There’s a lot of things that are really cool about this year’s crossover, one of which is the fact that there really is a true two-part story unlike last year where it was two interconnected episodes each had their own beginning, middle, and end.’

Guggenheim further revealed that the crossover will feel more self contained than last years Flash and Arrow event. This time properly introducing new characters to the audience. ‘It feels like an episode of Flash and then an episode of Arrow. It truly is a two-hour Flash/Arrow event that just so happens to introduce us to some new characters who will be a big part of Legends Of Tomorrow.’

The new show looks to bring together a rag-tag band of misfits in order to fight comic book villain Vandal Savage. The team will consist of familiar faces from both Arrow and The Flash including Firestorm, White Canary, The Atom, Heat Wave and Captain Cold. We also see the first incarnations of Hawkman, Hawkgirl and time traveler Rip Hunter who will be introduce on The Legends of Tomorrow.

Details are tight lipped but you can find out for yourself when DC’s Legends of Tomorrow premieres in 2016 on The CW network.

Bond Producer Thinks Daniel Craig Will Return To Play Bond

bond.png

Is he coming back? – Skatronixxx

Those deaf to the cries of Bond actor Daniel Craig’s omission that he’d rather ‘slash my wrists’ than return to play the British spy won’t be surprise to hear Producer Michael G. Wilsons assertion that Craig would return for the 25th Bond film.

For those, like me, who were convinced that Britain’s 2nd highest earning film SPECTRE, would be the last outing for the Blonde Bond, may have to come around to idea that Craig may in fact be back.

In an interview with Hollywood reporter Wilson confirmed that although they, ‘don’t have a contract” with the British actor he was confident, expressing that “I think we’ve got Daniel Craig.’ The producer for the Bond franchise liken the situation to Sam Mendes who denied that he would return to follow up the success he had with Skyfall, the first Bond film to earn over $1,000 million in the international market. ‘[Mendes] said they were never going to make the picture again, and he told the press that.’

The producer also further elaborated on the news that that MGM were looking for a new studio: ‘It’s not primarily our decision,’ adding ‘but of three people they’re considering, all of them are more than suitable for us. They’re all fine.’

With regards to Craig’s thoughts on a return. The actor was as tight lipped as ever, expressing that he ‘had massive amounts of fun” filming SPECTRE. “The simple answer is: I don’t want to think about it.’ Before coyly adding ‘maybe I’ll make another one, I don’t know.’

Bond fans your thoughts: is it time for a new bond to fill those MI6 shoes? Was SPECTRE any good? Who would you like to see as James Bond? Sound off on Twitter and as always, stick with @mitch_rated only on Skatronixxx.com

JJ Abrams On The Force Awakens And Sets Up Key Questions For Episode 8

starwars.png

*Makes lightsaber noises* zoooooom zoooooom = Skatronixxx

Star Wars The Force Awakens is merely a month away but already work has begun on the next entry into the new saga far-far away. Writer and Director of Episode 8, Rhian Johnson, is already hard at work, presumably ready to whoop J.J Abrams ass. Who, I am sure, is set to break numerous records given how quickly pre-sale tickets sold out in cinemas across the world for the first entry in Disney’s new trilogy.

Oh look it’s Jar Jar Abrams I mean J.JJ Abrams my bad 😉 – Skatronixxx

In a recent interview with Wired magazine, visionary Abrams confirmed that “the script for VIII is written.” He continued, ‘I’m sure rewrites are going to be endless, like they always are. But what [Lawrence Kasdan] and I did was set up certain key relationships, certain key questions, conflicts. And we knew where certain things were going.’

Although speculation and fan theorising has been rift, very little information leak-or otherwise has been released for public consumption. That however would make Rian Johnson the luckiest man in the world given that the director has had unprecedented access throughout Episode 7’s production. ‘We had meetings with Rian and Ram Bergman, the producer of VIII,’ revealed Abrams. ‘They were watching dailies when we were shooting our movie. We wanted them to be part of the process, to make the transition to their film as seamless as possible. I showed Rian an early cut of the movie, because I knew he was doing his rewrite and prepping. And as executive producer of VIII, I need that movie to be really good. Withholding serves no one and certainly not the fans. So we’ve been as transparent as possible.’

Abrams further revealed the shared process in creating the new trilogy and praised Johnson for Episode 8’s story: ‘Rian has asked for a couple of things here and there that he needs for his story. He is an incredibly accomplished filmmaker and an incredibly strong writer. So the story he told took what we were doing and went in the direction that he felt was best, but that is very much in line with what we were thinking as well. But [Episode VIII] will be his movie; he’s going to do it in the way he sees fit. He’s neither asking for nor does he need me to oversee the process.’

Star Wars: Episode VIII is currently scheduled for released May 26, 2017. As of yet, fans no very little of the follow-up film to The Force Awakens besides numerous female leads being cast and sequences already being shot in Ireland featuring Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill. Which at the very least confirms Luke survive the threat from the New Order and the Knights of Ren … or not, this is Star Wars after all.

Deadpool Star Ryan Reynolds Reveals The Merc-With-A-Mouth Is ‘Pansexual’

deadpool.png

Isn’t he a little warm in that suit? – Skatronixxx

I don’t think anyone can deny that after Deadpool released its debut trailer earlier this year at San Fransisco Comic-Con. The Merch-with-a-mouth certainly got tongues wagging with its excessive violence and general naughty-ness. I mean, dude be balling in that trailer.

But it seems that Ryan Reynolds Deadpool won’t just be breaking the fourth wall but men and women’s hearts alike. ‘Pansexual! I want that quoted. Pansexual Deadpool’, quipped the director. Revealing that the Merch will let the love fly as free as his bullets, certainly if the man portraying him is to be believed. ‘There is some sexuality in this movie for sure. You kinda think you have moments when you’re shooting where you think, ‘This is, uh, a little excessive. This is a comic book movie. Are we gonna get away with this?’ But the long time champion of a solo Deadpool movie, since Reynolds first portrayed the assassin in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, did confirm that the ‘studio hasn’t crushed us with anything’.

Still haven’t seen the trailer? Now’s your chance. Lil kiddies look away please – Skatronixxx

For fans wondering if this revelation is out of the blue, co-creator of the character, Fabian Nicieza, has suggested in the past that Deadpools sexuality was fluid. But perhaps more curious was the assertion by Reynolds that the movie also has ‘unicorn f**king’. Well, I guess they threw everything into this movie, including  the kitchen sink … or Unicorn to be more apt.

With Deadpool certainly looking to make a splash with the release in February of next year. It was recently revealed that X-Men producer Simon Kinberg had made plans for an Avenger-like team up/crossover involving Deadpool, Gambit and the X-Men. With Marvels X-Men franchise seemingly reinvigorated with the success of Days of Future Past, a team-up film might not as far off as fans may think. Especially if Deadpool proves a hit with mutant fans.

Witcher Movie Coming In 2017

witcher

First was an update of WOW now we get The Witcher, what game will be next?

Video game movies seem to be hitting their stride as a string of movies appear on the horizon. Both Director Duncan Jones Warcraft and Justin Kurzel’s Assassins Creed will be making their way onto the big screen next year, but now the popular game series Witcher joins them.

In a press release by Polish film company Platige Image, they announced that they have joined forces with Sean Daniel Company, the team behind The Mummy franchise, to adapt the novels on which the games are based. According to Platige Image the film adaptation will be directed by Tomasz Bagiński, the man who was behind the cinematics on the Witcher games and also was nominated for an Oscar for the animated short film The Cathedral.

Currently the creative director at Platige Company, Bagiński’s feature length Witcher film will focus on Geralt, the main protagonist of the The Witcher novels and games. With themes from the short novels The Witcher and Lesser Evil providing much of the frame work for the film, fans will relive the events from Lesser Evil that details how Geralt gained the moniker of ‘the butcher of Blaviken.’

Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans will also be excited by the presence of Thania St. John, who has written for numerous television show including the seminal slayer-with-a-tude series. Who has been tapped to write the screenplay for the film scheduled for release in 2017, the first in which is

It is also worth noting that the film wont be the first to be based on the Witcher, with Polish film The Hexer released in 2001. The film started life as an unreleased 13-episode Tv series that was chopped down to 2 hours. Directed by Marek Brodzki, who has worked with Steven Spielberg on Schindler’s List, the film was poorly received by critics and fans alike. The film was eventually released as the 13-episode intended series but although more coherent than its predecessor, the series was much maligned and criticised for changes to its source materiel.

Since Project Cd Red released The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt earlier this year, the game has already garnered much praise including talk for game of the year amongst gaming sites. With a beloved series such as The Witcher on its hands, it will be interesting to see how the adaptation will handle fan expectations and film-goers pre-conceived apprehensions when it comes to game adaptations.

Warcraft Will ‘Rights The Wrongs’ Of Video Games Adaptations

warcraft

I’m intrigued by this – Skatronixxx

With the trailer for Director Duncan Jones’ video game adaptation Warcraft released this week, buzz has begun for the film based on the widely popular MMO World of Warcraft.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, Jones expressed that as a fan of the games series it was ‘a unique opportunity to take a game that I knew well and loved and try to craft something that would invite an audience to see what all the fuss was about. I wanted to give people a sense of why so many people play and care about the game.’

Based on the game released in 2004, the story of Jones Warcraft will focus on both sides of a war between Man and Orcs that threatens to tear apart the region of Azeroth. As leader of man, Anduin Lothar (played by Vikings actor Travis Fimmel), and Chieftain of Orcs, Durotan (Toby Kebbel), the two start on a collision course that will decide the fate of their family and friends in a war where everyone has something to fight for. ‘The protagonists on each side are noble and empathetic,’ explains Jones. ‘They have reasons for doing what they’re doing that we understand. Both the humans and the orcs present rich cultures in their own right, with people you care about and people who are obnoxious.’

With Ubisoft’s Assassins Creed currently in production and Naughty Dog keen to get there hugely popular adventure series Uncharted off the ground. The success or failure of Warcraft may determine if today’s movie goers have an interest in video game adaptations. ‘I love games and I feel they’ve been sold short shrift in films so far,’ quips the director. ‘It’s my generation’s opportunity to right that wrong.’ With the recent renaissance of comic book movies as an example, Jones expressed his confidence that ‘there is no reason why video game-based movies shouldn’t be able to do the same thing.’

This looks surprisingly good – Skatronixxx

With the film scheduled for released next summer, only time will tell if the first film in a planned trilogy will inspire audience to delve into the world of Warcraft.

Are you a fan of the popular-MMO and keen to see the film? Does the trailer work for you?
