Thor:Ragnarok Director Hints At 4th Thor Film

rsz_1thor-loki.jpg

Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi has been busy promoting his next film Hunt For The Wilderpeople and during an interview with Digital Spy the subject of Thor came up.

“We are halfway through and it’s going really well. Everything is going to plan in that we didn’t have a plan to start with”

“It’s going better than expected and it’s a lot of fun shooting. The style is not too dissimilar to how I would normally work. It’s just a longer schedule because it’s a bigger film with more special effects and things like that”.

He then decided to add in something extra to get people talking “If I do really well with it and people like it and I enjoy the process then I’d definitely think about doing another one”

We do not know yet if Marvel have even considered doing a 4th installment of the movie or whether they are going to end the Thor solo movies after Thor: Ragnarok.

Thor: Ragnarok is due to hit UK cinemas on October 27th.

Warner Bros. Pictures Release New LEGO Batman Movie Poster…And It’s Not An Untitled Self Portrait

Warner Bros Pictures released a new poster for The LEGO Batman Movie on Saturday:

50180

Batman Day was first introduced to celebrate Batman’s 75th anniversary in 2014 and has since become an annual tradition among comic book fans. Batman Day is currently in its third year and was celebrated across the world on Saturday through Batman-centric offers, free comic books, talent signings and other Batman news – such as the first look at J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon in next year’s Justice League (which can be seen in fellow Skatronixxx writer Maxwell Honour‘s article).

In my opinion the most exciting movie to star the legendary caped crusader next year though is The LEGO Batman Movie. I loved The LEGO Movie for its sheer creativity and amazing style of stop-motion movement mixed with CGI animation, so I’m hoping The LEGO Batman Movie offers more of the same. It has a strong voice cast, with Will Arnett reprising his role as LEGO BatmanRalph Fiennes as AlfredMichael Cera as Robin, Zach Galifanakis as The Joker, Rosario Dawson as Batgirl and Mariah Carey as Mayor Marion Grange.

The LEGO Batman Movie is due for release on the 10th February 2016.

Rogue One Gains International Posters And New Composer

The first ever stand-alone ‘Star Wars’ film is moving closer towards release, and now new information regarding ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ have been released. First up are the international posters for the film, firmly placing the attention upon Felicity Jones’ Jyn Erso. As well as being just plain awesome, the two posters highlight how varied the locations for the film will be, varying from the sci-fi, to the scenic.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

In addition to this the film has gained a new composer. Originally slated to compose was Alexandre Desplat (The Grand Budapest Hotel), however due to reshoots for the film he became unavailable. As such Disney and Lucasfilm turned to Michael Giacchino, famous composer for such hits as ‘Inside Out’, ‘The Incredibles’ and the ‘Star Trek’ reboots. If you’re worried about his commitment to the role then don’t be, he appeared as a Stormtrooper in ‘The Force Awakens’ and with ‘Rogue One’ will have composed for all 4 of Disney’s film branches, those being Marvel Studios, Pixar, Lucasfilm and Walt Disney.

‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ hits cinemas Friday, 16th December in both the UK and US.

Spider-Gwen Makes Debut Appearance in Ultimate Spider-Man

Marvel’s had its fair share of female Spider titles: Silk, Spider-Woman, a number of Spider-Girls, Madame Web – but none seem to have captured fans attention like Spider-Gwen. Originally introduced as part of the 2014-15 Spider-Verse event, she was quickly given her own series, following the Gwen Stacy of Earth-65; an alternate universe where Gwen was bitten by the radioactive spider, not Peter Parker.

Not content with her own popular series, Gwen is now hitting the screens in Disney X D’s Ultimate Spider-Man. She’s voiced by Dove Cameron, a previous Disney Channel sweetheart, best known as Mal in Descendants. Some careful Googling reveals that this is the Disney channel tv movie about the kids of Disney villains, not the 2011 film starring George Clooney  – every day’s a school day!

In her first appearance, released on Marvel’s YouTube channel, she runs into Peter Parker and Miles Morales while holding a bag of money she’s recovered from some bank robbers. Of course the guys think she’s the culprit – she looks like she’s been caught red-handed. She explains herself, and, to be honest, Parker seems cool with it. We know he’s a sucker for a pretty face. I’m going to assume there’s a pretty face under the mask.

The 3 vigilantes are then cornered by none other than Captain George Stacey (who happens to be her dad). She then tells the two guys that he’s her dad – which seems a bit crazy to me. Does no-one respect the secret identity any more? Or are they ok knowing who she is because they’re Spider-Men? I don’t know Gwen, but it seemed like a rookie mistake to me. Schoolgirl error.

Watch the clip here to judge for yourself:

The clip comes from season 4 finale ‘Return to the Spider-Verse’ which will be on Disney X D 17th September.

Arrow Has Gotten Bad, But Season 5 Looks Promising.

Stephen-Amell-as-Green-Arrow-in-Season-4.jpg

First of all, this article isn’t about hating on Arrow, it’s just about pointing out facts as to why the show has gotten bad since season two. The order of events will not be chronological as I’m not doing a review of an episode but of a series in general.

It’s no secret that the quality of Arrow has greatly declined for the past two seasons. The show delivered season two which was/is regarded as one of the best seasons in TV history. But what followed afterwards in the following season, was a mess. The show struggled to deal with the fact that Oliver‘s identity was known by people he associates with. Something that made the show so iconic in season one and two was the element of mystery- “Who is this Arrow guy?”

Season three suffered from a convoluted plot and struggled to treat the characters right, especially the female ones. Firstly, the show killed off Sara for no apparent reason, just to resurrect her later in the season. After Sara‘s death, what followed was cringe-worthy episodes of Laurel getting her ass beat trying to become the new Canary. There wasn’t really a place for her on the team. The show-runners and writers struggled to give Laurel a compelling character arc. Heck, even in season one where she was a misfit, was way better than the way her character was handled in season 3.

Now, let’s get to the real problems of season 3 &4. Felicity. Yup, there are numerous problems in season 3 & 4, but Felicity is the biggest one. Besides the fact that she got the same amount of screen time as Oliver in season 3, and sometimes more; she was just so annoying. She whined about everything Oliver did, questioning his actions all the time. Things were worse after Oliver got back from being “dead”, as Felicity couldn’t stay off his case. Oliver’s fight for Merlyn against Ras Al Ghul made no sense at all. Why fight for the same guy who used your sister ( Thea) to kill your partner in crime (Sara)? Oh and they totally copied a scene from Batman Begins, see below.

cnbal02vmaacp98

Ras Al Ghul wasn’t a menacing villain like Slade was or even Malcolm Merlyn back in season 2 and 1. He was merciful, and his motivation for wanting to annihilate Starling City was stupid. On top of that he didn’t receive enough screen time as a season’s big bad should. And his death, Gosh, it was pathetic.

The_Atom.png

The only redeeming part of season 3 was Ray Palmer. He brought lightheartedness to an otherwise grim show. I had no problem with his relationship with him and Felicity, in fact I think they were a better couple than Oliver and Felicity. But Ray’s time in Arrow was shortlived as he soon had to leave to go join the Legends in Legends of Tomorrow.

Before Season 4 aired we were promised a new take on the show. A take that would somehow fix the mistakes they made in season 3. It was said that the show would have more humor, not necessarily like that of the Flash, but a step in a new direction. Season 4 started promising until it became Felicity and Friends. Honestly it pains me to write this about a show that was my favorite. Marc Guggenheim and Co, are the reason why Arrow is so bad now. They intentionally listened to Tumblr and fan fiction and put it into the show. Who on their right mind does that? Taking an excellent show and making it trash! Tumblr fangirls write about Olicity (Oliver and Felicity) all the time, and fan fiction should be treated as such-fan fiction. Nothing more. It was stupid of the showrunners and the writers to entertain such. As a repercussion, Arrow for the first time in the show’s history fell below 2 million viewers in some episodes of season 4.

There is two much emphasis on both Donna and Felicity Smoak. By no means are they bad characters, but when two supporting characters have more screen time than the guy who the show is about, you start having problems. Captain Lance being with Donna was amusing, but they should have gotten over that and shifted the focus back to Green Arrow.

Laurel once again was mistreated, being nothing more than an insignificant character. I even question whether the writers and EP’s of the show actually read comics. If they did they’d know that there’s no Green Arrow without Black Canary. Geoff Johns even subtly threw shade at the show saying basically the same thing that you cannot have a show about Green Arrow without Black Canary having a major role.

Killing Laurel was probably the show’s biggest mistake to date. They couldn’t figure out how to use her and just opted to kill her. Silly move really. What’s worse is they killed her and her last words was her ‘shipping’ Olicity (the main reason for the show being so bad). Her death was used to push Oliver and Felicity together again. Laurel survived the stabbing by Damien Darkh, but later died of a lame complication, seriously?!

This brings me to my next point, Damien Darkh. The show should have never introduced mysticism nor magic. It should have stayed grounded in reality. Neal Mcdonough delivered a stellar perfomance as Damien Darkh, but his character would have been better suited for Legends of Tomorrow or the Flash. His death was also pathetic, Oliver defeating a man with mystical powers by sheer will.

Flashbacks are pointless and annoying. They rarely have anything to connect to the present world. They should have discontinued them after season 2. Season 2’s flashbacks were great because they explained in depth the reason for what was happening in the present.

I can’t deny the fact that Arrow is bad right now. At some point last season I stopped watching the show live, I caught episodes online later, always disappointing. Now, I think I’ve made my point, and I believe the show-runners have seen their faults and are moving towards rectifying them. Now here are my reasons why you should give Arrow another show. I won’t go into detail with each reason.

  1. The show won’t feature Olicity for some time. One of the EP’s recently revealed that Arrow will be shifting it’s focus away from Oliver and Felicity as a couple to Oliver trying to balance a double life again. Which brings me to my next point.
  2. It’ll be interesting to see Oliver trying to balance his life as the Star City mayor and the Green Arrow. One of the problems of season 3 was the fact that Oliver moved away from the spotlight into the shadows, where he was full time, the Arrow. Season 5 looks to rectify that, putting him back into the limelight and in the shadows at night.
  3. There are a whole lot of new vigilantes. If you’ve watched Young Justice, which is streaming on Netflix, you know about Artemis. Artemis was brought by Green Arrow to join the Young Justice League. She is a character with depth and a compelling backstory. By the looks of it, the girl who took the mantle of Black Canary after Laurel died will become Artemis at some point. Wild Dog and Prometheus are also two vigilantes who will be featured in the upcoming season. I’m looking forward to see how the show will handle multiple anti-heros. Here’s a look at Prometheus.

prometheus-arrow-thecw.jpg

  1. Laurel will return to the show, the how’s are unknown for now. Last month an Arrow EP revealed that Laurel was to return and would have a major role across 3 or the 4 shows in the Flarrowverse, namely, the Flash, Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow. It will be fascinating to see how she is brought back, whether it’ll be just Flashbacks or Flashpoint Laurel.
  2. Flashpoint will affect Arrow. One of the most iconic stories in the DC Universe coming to DC TV by means of the Flash, will spread over to Arrow. Not much is known about how it will affect the show. Whatever it is, I’m stoked. Let’s just hope they handle the material will caution.
  3. There’s a new addition to the Flash-Legends-Arrowverse; Supergirl. We already know of the four part crossover that will take place sometime in December. Something tells me, it won;t be the only time Supergirl has an encounter with Arrow. I can’t wait to see Diggle’s priceless reaction to seeing a new flying metahuman.
  4. It’ll hopefully have a good big bad of the season.

My hands are cramping from all the typing, but that sums out my reason to watch Arrow again when it airs in the next few weeks. In the meantime you can check out the trailer for season 5.

Margot Robbie Signs First Look Deal With Warner Brothers

DC’s didn’t exactly set the world on fire when Suicide Squad was released to dreadful reviews over the summer, but fan favourite Margot Robbie has landed a first look deal with Warner Brothers this week to bring Harley Quinn back to the big screen.

Warner Brothers, possibly in a bid to push DC ahead of the often favoured Marvel Studios, is focusing on female-driven storytelling. Although they haven’t released any details about the Quinn solo movie (to be honest, the script probably isn’t written yet) the WB has stated that it could feature other ladies of the DC Universe, such as the Birds of Prey.

Robbie will be one of the producers on the film, and by all reports has become a driving force behind the Harley Quinn picture. Sources talking to the Hollywood Reporter said that when she was preparing for her role in Suicide Squad, she fell in love with the DC characters, and is keen to bring them to the screen.

This is a huge success for the 26 year old Australian actress, who has commanded starring roles in Hollywood since her breakout performance in The Wolf of Wall Street. She really seems to have found a home with the WB.

As part of their female-driven storytelling, Warner Brothers also have other Margot Robbie vehicle Queen of the Air, the Wonder Woman movie in the works (due 2nd June 2017) and Ocean’s Eight (an all-female version of Ocean’s Eleven) in their near future.

First Look at J.K Simmons as Jim Gordon In Justice League.

simmons-173068-187934

We recently learned that J.K Simmons had finished filming his scenes for Justice League. The filming is still underway at various locations across the United Kingdom, and will spread to Ireland for supposedly Atlantis (the home of Aquaman) scenes later this year. As part of Batman Day celebration, none of than Justice League director Zack Snyder took to Twitter to reveal the first look at Commissioner Jim Gordon, played by J.K Simmons. The reveal was in black and white, similar to Ben Affleck’s first look as Batman back in 2014, where he was posing near the Batmobile.

Check out J.K Simmons as Jim Gordon below.

Whatastory: Whataburger and Wonder Woman’s “Friendly Trademark Discussion”

There’s been reports that DC Comics and American burger chain Whataburger have been embroiled in a bitter dispute over logos. The chain has a stacked W logo, which it launched in 1972, 13 years before Wonder Woman‘s  original logo was trademarked. The new version of the logo, relaunched to tie in with Gal Gadot‘s incarnation of the superheroine, appears to stepped on Whattaburger’s toes.

img_1860

However, according to Chron, the press folks at Whataburger seem to be taken aback at claims that there is a nasty dispute between them and the home of the Amazon princess. They describe the ‘row’ as a ‘friendly trademark discussion’. In fact, their statements are unbelievably cute, as if written by characters from the 1970s series.

“Contrary to some suggestions, Whataburger is not at war with Wonder Woman over her newly redesigned logo. In fact, Whataburger supports superheroes like Wonder Woman and her friends in the Justice League.” Whataburger actually have a superhero mascot -Whataguy – and they would apparently love to see a crossover with these two. Maybe DC should introduce him as a character for the Wonder Woman solo film? He could be a love rival against Bruce Wayne…

img_1861

“Wonder Woman’s stacked W logo has both made it appear more similar to Whataburger’s long-standing Flying W trademark and has been accompanied by nine new trademark applications, covering a much more substantial list of goods and services than just comic books, including a variety of food and beverage products.”

And therein lies the problem – the original logo was only related to comic book merch; now it maybe linked to similar products as Whataburger.

img_1862

“Whataburger anticipates a positive discussion with DC Comics and a resolution of that discussion that will be acceptable to both parties.”

In a quaint closing of the statement, Whataburger said they wanted Wonder Woman to be able to focus on keeping “planet Earth safe from villains” while they focused on making burgers.

Whataclassact.

New Luke Cage Promo Features Cottonmouth

Marvel is at it again with clever marketing to draw us all in. This time it’s for the latest instalment of the Netflix hosted TV series, Luke Cage (not Nick Cage as I am frequently paranoid I will call it…) The series, which is due to go live on the streaming service on 30th September will focus on Hell’s Kitchen’s own man of steel (are DC going to come after me for that one?). The eponymous hero was introduced as Jessica Jones’ on-again-off-again love interest, and a man so strong, with super strength and unbreakable skin, he could flick attacking bruisers off him like gnats. The show promises to be gritty and edgy like its predecessors Daredevil and Jessica Jones, but also   showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker has promised fans that the drama will be infused with ’90s hip-hop.

The new promo shows villain Cottonmouth, played by Mahershala Ali (House of Cards), appearing to break the fourth wall and talk directly to the audience. He has a large portrait of rapper Biggie Smalls in the background, and explains how the late hip-hop star is the real King of New York. There is quite a cool shot that looks like Ali is wearing the crown in the portrait – some nice camera work there! He is not, in fact, addressing us, but rather his unfortunate victim who gets a beating as he’s told “Everybody wants to wear the crown”.

Watch the promo:

The whole series of Luke Cage will launch on Netflix 30th September
