X-Men Spinoff ‘Legion’ Gets 2 Weird New Teaser Trailers

If there’s a list of contenders for weirdest upcoming television show, then ‘Legion’ must certainly be at the top. The show isn’t set to premiere until 2017 but production is well underway, and judging from the trailers below it promises to be extremely odd indeed.

Starring Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey) and Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation) and created by ‘Fargo’ showrunner Noah Hawley, the show follows a mutant coming to terms with his abilities.

“David Haller, a troubled young man who may be more than human. Diagnosed as schizophrenic, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. But after a strange encounter with a fellow patient, he’s confronted with the possibility that the voices he hears and visions might be real.”

‘Legion’ will air on FX in 2017.

Fairy Tail Review And Primer

https://i2.wp.com/cdn32.sptndigital.com/sites/uk.animax/files/styles/image_1170x658/public/ct_series_f_primary_image/fairytale_1600x900_0.jpgFairy Tail is a fantastic series created by Hiro Mashima. Hiro Mashima created the stellar series Rave Master which really is a classic Anime. This series which has been going on now for 10 years and has recently hit a landmark 500 chapters is just as amazing.

I have been a fan of this anime since I came into contact with it. A wondrous story of mages and the guild that is more like a family and their way of life. They come into contact with so many vicious and terrible wizards and beasts and yet always manage to pull through. Through the power of magic and friendship these characters really have done so much.

There is also the power of love flowing through the story as real relationships form between characters. It is so nice seeing how things happen in this magnificent series. It mainly focuses on Natsu Dragneel, a fiery mage raised by a dragon named Igneel. One day Igneel vanishes leaving young Natsu to fend for himself, though he did teach him his fire dragon magic.

Natsu joins Fairy Tail and grows up making friends with the next generation of wizards. The guild has its ups and downs as they characters really are so well developed. There are two time skips that change up the world of Fairy Tail. One interestingly doesn’t age any of the wizards of Fairy Tail. This idea is pretty great as it shows honestly how strong these wizards are and how much they affect the world around them.

Son Of Zorn SN1 EP1 – ‘Return To Orange County’

https://encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRkZtK-qp65Swu-9nQmMMiC1u_3yIrlXbMMbbJ36hM5PQDO8wJL

Son of Zorn is a new series that is on its way to Fox. While the series doesn’t premiere until September 25th, the first episode was shown off to bring in viewers. It tells the story of a He-Man type character coming to live in the real world. Played by Jason Sudeikis, it seems like a very interesting show idea.

He comes from a world that is animated and is himself animated. He wants nothing more then to reconnect with his son and his ex-wife. But coming from an animated world he really has no idea how to raise deal with a human child.

In the first episode he realizes that he will lose his son if he doesn’t stay around. He decides to stay and get an apartment and a real job. His son is clearly put off by his whole attempt as he was never there for the boy except for sporadic weekends every year.

Humorously enough the young man does still love his father, he really just wishes he wouldn’t show up without a shirt, yelling his name and waving a sword around.  Of course this is what his father does as he really does not know anything else.

Zorn really decides to try with his son and ends up spending an evening with him. He tries to make things right with him but his son is totally different then what he wanted him to be. As his son is flirted with he gets in his way making it that much more difficult to make amends.

The next day at work he is told to come talk to his boss as they found a table cleaved in twain. She tells him he has passion and that if he was a little more considerate he might do well at this job. Humorously he tells her that she is a good guy, as he comes from a place where men are the only beings of strength.

Zorn then gets his son a Death Hawk which he can ride. He wants his son to feel like a grown man. His son is actually quite happy that his dad actually listened to him but he is not able to keep the giant bird. As he kills the giant bird, the waitress drives by and is disgusted by the brutal scene before her.

The semi final shot of the episode shows Zorn’s son brushing his teeth zooming out to show that his legs in fact are animated. Then it follows with his soon to be stepfather washing the drive way of the Death Hawk’s blood.

Honestly, I am unsure how long this series will actually last. It could conceivably end after one season, if it doesn’t hit the spot for viewers.I did find it interesting but really am curious about how this show will continue to play out.

There really hasn’t been an hybrid show like this, but honestly it is pretty well done. It takes the idea of a classic 80’s cartoon and mashes it with a situational family oriented comedy. Of course it may not be appropriate for all ages but if you read between the lines it looks like at its crux it is about a father fixing his mistakes, and that is nice.

Agents of Shield Season 4: A Fiery First Look At Ghost Rider

The news is coming thick and fast now for ‘Agents of Shield’ Season 4, with the latest piece being our first proper look at Ghost Rider (Gabriel Luna), and it is AWESOME!

first-look-ghost-rider

Yahoo TV has our first look at the hellraising antihero bringing the first instance of mysticism to the MCU. As well as the blazing body parts, Ghost Rider will be proud owner of a flaming 1969 Dodge Charger. In a world where traffic’s already a pain, driving a speeding inferno around the streets seems plain rude.

Ghost Rider is the most notable exclusive character to ever appear on the show. Whilst the likes of Nick Fury and Maria Hill have made appearances, the biggest character to be introduced exclusively to the show is likely Daisy Johnson, and she was around two and a half seasons before we actually knew who she was.

Still, if this doesn’t bring the new viewers the show is looking for then I don’t know what will. According to Chloe Bennett (Daisy Johnson) the show isn’t going to shy away from the unique issues Ghost Rider brings.

“If anyone’s familiar with the Robbie Reyes version of Ghost Rider, they know that the show will have to deal with issues of vengeance, penance, the line between good and evil, and who deserves to die. These massive themes are being threaded throughout our season.”

With the later timeslot also being a factor, this could end up being one of the most exciting seasons of the show yet!

‘Agents of Shield’ Season 4 premieres Tuesday, September 20th 10pm on ABC.

UFC 203 Main Card Review

So this weekend saw UFC 203 take place and we finally got to see if CM Punk had what it takes to make it in the UFC despite having no previous experience amateur or otherwise so here it is my review of the UFC 203 main fight card.

Jessica Andrade vs Joanne Calderwood – Winner Jessica Andrade by Submission

The opening fight of the night began with the pair going straight to the centre if the octagon and Calderwood was trying to use her reach advantage to keep Andrade at bay but this didn’t last long with Andrade taking Calderwood down to the ground but there was a cut to the eye of Andrade but there was no sign of where it came from. Calderwood managed to get to her feet again but not for long as she was slammed into the mat by Andrade and then was hit with some nice body shots, Calderwood was doing some good defensive work but Andrade scooped her up like nothing before slamming her into the mat again. As the pair are on the floor we are informed that the cut came from an elbow from Calderwood.

Andrade got some good side control and landed same nice shots to the ribs of Calderwood before she attempted to get up Andrade grabbed hold of Calderwood’s neck and slamming herself backwards and locking in a tight Guillotine choke hold and not letting go until Calderwood eventually taps out. It looks as thought Andrade’s decision to drop down in weight class was a good idea indeed as she dominated the fight.

Jimmie Rivera vs Urijah Faber – Winner Jimmie Rivera by Unanimous Decision

This was the most boring fight of the night with only one really good 2nd round Faber decided to try and stand toe to toe with Rivera probably not his smartest move as he has some serious knock out power.

The first round was a cagey affair with Faber trying to figure out the best way to mess up Rivera’s game plan and Rivera swinging with some wild punches looking for that one fight stopping punch.

The second round was the best of the fight both fighters took to the centre of the Octagon Faber went for a kick to the inner thigh of Rivera but managed to land a low blow and the fight was stopped while Rivera caught his breath the changing point of the fight Rivera landed a viscous leg kick to the left knee of Faber taking him clean out hitting the mat, Faber managed to get up quite quickly but his leg and knee appeared red and swollen and he was hobbling around on it. Rivera took full advantage of this and continued his assault of the same leg throughout the 2nd round Faber did a good job of masking the pain he was in as he always does when he is hurt. Towards the end of the round there was some good back and forth between the pair and Rivera caught Faber with a good right left combo before the round ended.

The third round started off with both fighters rushing to the centre of the Octagon and the pair threw some wild punches at each other with Rivera getting the better contact  of the two. Faber looked like he was out of ideas and Rivera continued to land some more kicks to the leg of Faber. Faber managed to poke Rivera in the eye and looking at the replay you could see that he hit/slapped him with an open hand causing the fight to be stopped whilst the Doctor took a look at Rivera’s eye but they agreed to let the fight cary on as the fighter said he wanted to continue. The fight continued with some more shots being thrown by the pair but again Rivera was landing the better shots and continued with the leg kicks towards the end of the round Rivera landed a god right and left combo but it wasn’t enough to stop the fight there were more punches thrown in the last 10 seconds before the fight ended.

After the fight you could here Rivera telling his corner that he could not see out of his eye. (I have checked and it has been confirmed that he has a crack behind his retina and a scratch on the white of the eye and one Doctor is not sure if or when he’ll get full vision back in the eye so we will have to wait and see.)

Mickey Gall vs CM Punk – Winner Mickey Gall by Submission

So the long awaited arrival of CM Punk finally came around after 2 years of him signing the contract and being fit enough to fight after injuries and an operation and it turns out I was right all along with how he would fair. The fight got underway and Punk threw a wild Right jab attempt at Gall which he paid dearly for as Gall slipped under it and took Punk down to the mat Gall managed to land some really heavy shots on Punk and Punk had no answer what so ever to the torrent of punches he was getting and we got to see what happens when a fighter with a high level Brown belt in Brazilian Ju Jitsu comes up against a guy with a White belt. Gall swarmed all over Punk and attempted to get a Rear naked choke locked in but failed on the first attempt it wasn’t too much longer though and Gall got it locked in forcing Punk to tap out pretty much straight away ending the fight in the first round. (An interview later on with Dana White on a follow up show has him quoted as saying that he doesn’t think Punks next fight should be in the UFC)

Fabricio Werdum vs Travis Browne Winner Fabricio Werdum by Unanimous Decision

The last time these two fought was back April 2014 with Werdum winning and Browne breaking his hand foot and injuring his ribs. Werdum tried to put the fight to bed straight from the bell by running across the Octagon and flying side kicking Browne in the face. Werdum tried to go for the ankle of Browne but missed but got straight back to work and landed a good combo of punches on Browne. Werdum tried a Spinning cartwheel kick but just missed the head of Browne. Browne then threw a punch at Werdum that was blocked with the elbow Browne then wheeled away in pain trying to call a time out which does exist in UFC so with right Werdum went after him and landed a shot to the head before the ref stopped the fight to find out what the issue was and it appeared that Browne had dislocated a finger but if the rules were stuck to the fight should not have stopped at this point and the crowd let them know it by booing. The fight got underway again and Werdum landed a good body kick on Browne the pair traded a few shots then Werdum landed a good combo to the head and Browne fell into the cage. Browne landed a good counter on Werdum before catching a kick by Werdum and throwing him to the floor. Werdum landed a big right hand that floored Browne and he then managed to gain back control and attempted to lock in a Rear naked choke but Browne managed to defend himself until the end of the round.

The second round got under way and Browne came out looking like he could not make a full fist with his right hand due to the finger injury Browne managed to knock down Werdum but he just sat in the floor as Browne threw some lack lustre kicks at him and then Werdum got to his feet. The fight slowed down a bit at this point and the crowd once again showed there annoyance by booing the fighters before the pair traded some kicks. Browne managed to land a good left jab but Werdum responded with a body kick right after, the last minute of the round was a reasonably quiet one but it the last 10 seconds Werdum tried another Cartwheel kick only to miss again.

The third round began and Browne tried to land a front lick to the head of Werdum but missed the mark. Werdum then landed a good body kick and an over hand right on Browne, the fight slowed down again before Werdum attempted a take down but was shrugged off by Browne. Werdum looked to have taken his foot off the gas and Browne looked cagey due to the injured hand, Browne attempted to high kicks but both were blocked. The last minute of the round didn’t add up to much and the buzzer went without much else happening apart from the crowd booing loudly as the fight was over.

Before the winner was announced Werdum was rubbing his eye to simulate someone crying to the crowd something was said between a corner man and Werdum and Werdum decided to throw a straight kick at the corner man there was some pushing and shoving before both corners were sent out of the Octagon and Werdum was declared the winner.

Stipe Miocic vs Alistair Overeem – Winnder Stipe Miocic by KO

The last fight of the night was for the Heavyweight title between new champion Stipe Miocic and Alistair Overeem one of the spots most decorated strikers.

The fight started off with both fighters feeling each other out and getting into there rhythm and it wads the champ who stepped up the pace first and tried to land a combination. Overeem managed to land a good shot knocking Miocic down to the ground before trying to lock in a Guillotine but Miocic managed to get out of this and started chasing Overeem around the Octagon. Miocic landed a good right hand of Overeem and you could tell that Overeem was hurt and the champ chased him around the Octagon catching him with a good right and a uppercut Overeem looked shaky and his defence looked messy wit his hands being really low. Overeem attempted a poor low kick which Mioc managed to catch the ankle get Overeem down to the ground before taking top position and landing two good hammer fists to the face of Overeem before landed some good ground and pound to the body before going to the head again and just raining punch after punch down on Overeem until eventually one found the sweet spot on the chin and knocked Overeem out cold and then landed two more shots for good measure before the ref jumped in to stop the fight.

Fear The Walking Dead SN2 EP11- ‘Pablo And Jessica’

Factions unite as the fight for survival suddenly seems hopeful.

Well that was unusual. It’s not often you finish watching an episode of ‘Fear The Walking Dead’ and actual feel happy, or hopeful that these characters might just make it after all. Somehow though, ‘Pablo and Jessica’ succeeded in doing just that.

That’s not to say things were rosy all the way through. The hotel storyline continues to be one of the most engaging and tense the show’s ever done. It truly is a brilliant setting, and unique to anything done before in ‘The Walking Dead’ series. The narrow hallways and darkened staircases create a real sense of claustrophobia, whilst the openness of the lower levels evokes the sense of ever present danger. So much of that space could very easily be broken into, so throughout the episode you’re tense, waiting for the inevitable moment a Walker breaks through to catch a character off guard.

This is helped by the fact that truly any character could be the next to go. Sure the hotel newcomers are the most likely candidates, but at this point in time there are no characters the show really couldn’t go without. There were moments scattered throughout the episode where I was genuinely concerned that Maddison, Strand or Alicia could die. Out of the three I’m afraid Maddison would be my first pick to go, however she showed real growth this episode.

The opening few minutes were unfortunately largely redundant. Having seen Maddison and Strand safe at the end of last episode, all tension was removed from the scene. That’s not to say it wasn’t exciting though. Seeing Maddison and Strand fighting the horde before adapting to Nick’s way of thinking to escape was a treat to watch, as there hasn’t been too much in the way of Walker killings so far. This episode carried on the tradition of ‘The Walking Dead’s’ inability to properly portray the passage of time. Last week we saw an entire night had passed before Alycia was able to reach her mother, whereas this episode made it seem like a matter of minutes.

Time gripes aside, this episode did a brilliant job of uniting various characters who were initially at odds. Seeing the remaining hotel guests put aside their differences to secure their new home was thrilling to watch, and portrayed the sense of hope that has been lacking thus far. I struggle to believe that people would turn on one another so quickly at the end of the world as has been portrayed through ‘The Walking Dead’ series. Sure people are the worst, but I imagine more people would draw together than apart during such a horrible time. Maybe that’s just me being hopelessly optimistic, but it was refreshing to see from the show.

Not to mention that the entire sequence of the group drawing the walkers away from the hotel was thrilling. So often on this show you see characters making stupid decisions, so to see such a meticulously well thought out plan that incorporated everyone was again a refreshing change, and displayed just how much these characters are evolving.

If there was one place the episode did fall short, it was with Nick’s storyline. I was hoping to see more from Chris and Travis given the shock ending to last week’s episode, as well as the sheer amount of Nick we’ve seen from this half season. They’re leaning heavily on his arc at the moment, but there’s nothing necessarily interesting happening there. The smaller moments are great. The burgeoning romance between him and Luciana. Seeing him put his skills developed as an addict to good use. However, there’s a distinct lack of a threat there that makes it all fall a bit flat. Yes, Alejandro explained how much danger they’re in from the gangs due to Nick’s actions. We certainly saw how dangerous they were a couple weeks back. But at the moment the threat seems pretty non-existent.

It doesn’t help that the big emotional moment of that storyline this week rested on the fate of a character we had never even met. Luciana’s brother Pablo was found dead, but given we never knew him, and that we barely know Luciana, there was no emotion to be felt when we learnt of his death or from Luciana’s subsequent breakdown. This is in stark contrast to the conclusion of the Hotel storyline this week. The newly allied group all sit down to eat, minus the groom, and Strand easily deduces that he’s kept his Walker bride trapped in the honeymoon suite, unable to let her go.

Strand has been such as strong character from the beginning so it was hard to see him so emotional here. He was clearly emotional when Tom died back in episode seven, however it seems he was bottling most of it up. To see him let his guard down for once, allowing himself to grieve alongside someone who was going through the exact same thing, was a touching moment. That he then took it upon himself to finish off the bride himself spoke to the man Strand has evolved into over his limited time on the show. When we first met him there is no way any of us would have believed he was capable of doing something like that. Now however, the layers have been peeled away to reveal a more relatable and compassionate man. All this was aided by that one scene we had showing the bride and groom deliriously happy last week. It shows that just giving us a reason to feel for these characters, however small, makes the show an ultimately more rewarding experience.

There were more things to see this week than there were walkers walked off that pier, so other highlights include:

  • The Colonia continues to be such a great place to visit. People smile. People laugh. People aren’t trapped in a spiralling world of depression. It just helps lift the show a bit. I know the show can’t be sunshine and rainbows all the time, but the little things go a long way.
  • Such as Nick and Luciana playing football with the kids. Sure we’re all waiting for the inevitable moment they become Walker chow, but for the moment it’s nice to enjoy.
  • Seriously what has happened to Ofelia? I know she didn’t have much to do before, but this is a bit ridiculous.
  • Did anyone else think for a moment that the Hotel guests were gonna betray the group and lock them out? I was convinced.
  • Maddison finally seems to understand that it’s just her and Alycia now. Hopefully this leads to an improved relationship.
  • Nick’s drug making montage was a really fun moment, made better by a really fun soundtrack.
  • Walker Kill of the Week:

Alycia- Do Not Disturb Walker (I’m still thinking of a better way to do this)

So another episode of ‘Fear The Walking Dead’ has come and gone, and once again the quality was raised. The hotel plotline continues to engage with its unique setting and ideas, whilst Alycia, Maddison and Strand continue to show significant growth. Things petered out a bit when it shifted to Nick’s storyline, but the smaller moments shone through, so hopefully we’ll see things pick up there soon. It’s crazy to think there are only two episodes left this season. The Chris and Travis storyline is the only one that appears to be heading to some sort of climax, so we’ll see what next week has to bring.

Charlie Cox “Excited” for Iron Fist Collaboration

img_1843

There are few things that make me want to drop everything, lock the doors and power through a Netflix boxset in a weekend – the Marvel series fall in to that category. While fans (such as myself) are eagerly counting down the days until Luke Cage hits the screens (30th September – you’re going to want to clear your schedule!), Charlie Cox has been telling fans what he’s looking forward to in the future of the Marvel Universe.

Cox, who has just signed on to reprise the role of Matt Murdock in season 3 of Daredevil, will be a key player in the upcoming Defenders series. The highly anticipated show will draw together the characters from Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist in one superhero extravaganza. Fans are keen to see how Murdock will interact with last year’s solo project star Jessica Jones, but Cox is more excited to explore his relationship with Iron Fist.

Speaking at the 2016 Toronto Fan Expo recently, Cox told fans, “The relationship I’m most interested in seeing fleshed out is the Matt Murdock and Danny Rand stuff. I just met Finn Jones the other day and I just think in the comics, that’s a great relationship so I want to see how that works out on screen.”

It will be interesting to see how the two martial artist get on with the brute force of Cage and Jones – how will Hell’s Kitchen cope!

Also, Cox dropped some personal future excitement into the mix at the Canadian convention – his girlfriend (producer Samantha Thomas) is due to give birth to a baby Daredevil any day now. Let’s hope that Charlie can get plenty of sleep before The Defenders launches (potentially next year)

Dax Shepard To Co-Direct Animated ‘Scooby Doo’ Film

awesome-scooby-doo

This is what awesome Scooby Doo looks like.

Yes you read that right. Dax Shepard, star of TV series Parenthood and various lesser known films, is set to co-direct Warner Bros.’ upcoming ‘Scooby Doo’ animated feature. The actor, who is also directing upcoming comedy action film ‘CHiPs’ based on the 1970s television series of the same name, will join ‘Space Jam’ Director Tony Cervone for the film.

horrible-scooby-doo

This is what horrible Scooby Doo looks like.

No other details of the film are yet known, however Warner Bros will hopefully venture far away from the art direction of the current ‘Scooby Doo’ TV series. The newer art direction is reminiscent more of ‘Family Guy’ than classic ‘Scooby Doo’ which could speak to Warner Bros.’ hopes to market the brand to a mass audience. The company seems to be making various attempts to ‘modernise’ Scooby and the gang, most recently seen with the launch of the ‘Scooby Apocalypse’ comic book. That was dead in the water in most people’s eyes from the moment it was announced given the fan reaction, and was more a slap across the face to fans eager for more ‘Scooby’ than the glorious revitalisation Warner Bros. was obviously hoping it to be.

scooby-apocalypse

I have no words for this…

Still, the ‘Scooby Doo’ animated film could certainly be something to look forward to. Given the tremendous success of ‘The Lego Movie’, Warner Bros. will be looking to repeat that with its other properties, and we can only hope Scooby Doo gets the same treatment.

Alexis Arquette “Breaks Through The Veil”

There has been an outpouring of grief on social media today after it was announced that actress Alexis Arquette had passed away in the early hours of Sunday morning. Arquette, who appeared in films such as Pulp Fiction and The Wedding Singer, was 47 and had been suffering with an undisclosed illness. People Magazine has stated that a source close to the family has suggested that her cause of death was through complications from AIDS, however this remains unconfirmed. Her brother Richmond released a statement saying that she died peacefully, surrounded by her siblings and listening to David Bowie’s Starman.

As well as appearing in a number of films and tv series, Arquette was a vocal activist for transgender rights. She appeared in the 2007 documentary Alexis Arquette: She’s My Brother, which focused on her personal transition story. She had compassion and empathy for others, particularly those in less accepting situations, saying her own transition was easier because she was from a famous family.

In a statement released by the family, Arquette’s dedication to the trans community was noted. “Despite the fact that there are few parts for trans actors, she refused to play roles that were demeaning or stereotypical. She was a vanguard in the fight for understanding and acceptance for all trans people.”

Alexis Arquette was remembered by friends and family on Twitter:

Anne Hathaway Wants To Reprise DC’s Catwoman

untitled.png

During an interview at the Toronto Film Festival, Anne Hathaway said she would love to play DC‘S Catwoman again. We first saw Hathaway’s Catwoman back in 2012 for The Dark Knight Rises. *Spoiler alert.* Wanting a clean slate, she betrays Batman but ultimately helps save Gotham before departing with Wayne to live their lives in Florence.

Hathaway has described her role as Selina Kyle being the most physically demanding role she has ever played. Hathaway trained vigorously in martial arts for her role, doubling her efforts at the gym in order to keep up with such a demanding role. Hathaway’s inspiration for her take on Catwoman came from Hedy Lamarr, a bad-ass film actress and inventor during World War II.

I loved that character and I had such a blast playing her,” Hathaway said. “I’m not sure how it would work because I think the Chris Nolan chapter of the Batman story has been wrapped up and I’m part of that, but I love the DC Universe and it would be fun to take a trip back.”

Previous actresses who played Catwoman include Halle Berry and Michelle Pfeiffer, both of whom only played the role once.

Halle Berry in Catwoman (2004)

Michelle Pfeiffer in Batman Returns (1992)

With so much potential for the DC Universe, maybe it’ll be possible, but then again every Catwoman seems to only have one starring movie. Would you like to see Anne Hathaway reprise her role? Or would you rather we see a different actress bring new potential to Catwoman? Comment, share and like below, or tweet me @SohoDoll. And as always, “Never steal anything from someone you can’t outrun, kid” – Selina Kyle.
