Man Of Steel 2 Is Finally On Its Way!

full_bg.jpg

Fresh off the box office success of Suicide Squad, a report from The Wrap confirms that Warner Bros. has put Man of Steel 2 in active development. Man of Steel was released back in 2013 to mixed reviews but became a box office hit. Since then it has become a cult classic, and most people see Henry Cavill as the definitive Superman. Warner Bros. kept quiet about a sequel and instead green lit the production of Batman V Superman which landed in theaters earlier this year.

Warner Bros. put two untitled DC films on schedule for an October 2018 and November 2019 release. It is possible that one of those slots belongs to the Man of Tomorrow. There are no details about the story released yet. It is believed though that Zack Snyder will not return to direct as he will be tied up with Justice League 2. It is still unclear how the ending of Batman V Superman will factor into next year’s Justice League, but whatever the case may be, the film seems to be in good hands with Geoff Johns now moderating the DC Universe.

Clearly Warner Bros. have faith on the DC Universe as the films continue to rake in tons of cash despite dismal reviews. Does Man Of Steel 2 being in development excite you?

Suicide Squad Snubs Critics, Shatters Box Office Records.

Despite the scathing reviews Suicide Squad has been acquiring of the past week, it’s at least safe to say the film will be a financial success. Critics have been totally blasting the film, some even going far as to say it’s worse than Fantastic Four. Personally, I had a good time watching the movie. I acknowledge all the flaws but wouldn’t go far as to call it a bad movie.

Suicide Squad opened in theaters worldwide excluding China (where a release is highly unlikely) over the past weekend. It completely obliterated the records that had been set by Guardians of the Galaxy back in 2014 for the month of August. The film had a massive $20.5 million in Thursday previews and a gigantic $65+ million opening day. That shattered the preview record set by Guardians for the month of August. It went to make an estimated $135.1 million opening weekend, besting 94.3 mil set by Guardians in 2014. Internationally, the film also did some great business bringing in over 133 million for a global total of more than $268 million. While this might seem like a lot, the film has some ground to cover for it to recoup the massive 185 mil budget and added marketing costs. Commenting on the film’s perfomance, Warner Bros. executive vice president  Jeff Goldstein said, “It bested anything we could have expected. The marketing campaign was brilliant and the perfomances from Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Jared Leto were just extraordinary. They’re fun and wicked and fans enjoy it”

It does seem like there’s a great divide between critics and fans. The film has a 26% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes while fan ratings sit at a good 74%. That begs the question of whether should you really listen to critics and not see a movie if they hate it, or should you go see a movie and form your own opinion despite bad reviews? It does feel like every time DC puts out a new movie critics are ready to hate it. Good thing they aren’t the ones buying the tickets, or the DC Universe would be doomed.

Either way, I am excited to see more comic book movies that dare be ambitious and take risks instead of being formulaic. Wonder Woman is the next epic set in DC Universe, and it looks like it’s gonna be fun. Only time will tell whether the movie is good or nay.

The Strain Season 3 Teaser

rsz_the-strain-season-3

FX’s The Strain released an interesting teaser for Season 3 and Lady Liberty doesn’t look well.

For those unfamiliar with The Strain, it is based on the book of the same title written by Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan.  The story reminds us all that vampires…or strigoi, are really scary monsters and they don’t sparkle.

In season one, Ephraim Goodweather, portrayed by Cory Stoll, is a doctor working for the CDC in New York City.  When he and his team are called upon to investigate a new viral strain, they are face with an ancient evil that is spreading beyond their control.  Along the way, Eph, Dr. Nora Martinez (Mia Maestro), and Jim Kent (Sean Astin) discover the viral strain not only kills the infected but they come back to to life as strigoi.  Anyone bitten by a strigoi is immediately infected with a worm-like parasite that eventually transform the host into a strigoi. The strain spreads throughout NYC leading to a quarantine.  And to add to Eph’s headache, his ex-wife, Kelly (Natalie Brown) is infected and begins to search for their son Zach (Max Charles).

In Season two, others have realized the epidemic that is happening including Vasiliy Fet (Kevin Durand), Dutch Velders (Ruta Gedmintas), Gus Elizalde (Miguel Gomez) and the mysterious Abraham Setrakian (David Bradley). Together they learn more about the origins of the vampire strain and more importantly, we are introduced to The Master (Robin Atkin Downes/Jack Kesy) and Thomas Eichorst (Richard Sammel).  Thomas has served as the Master’s right hand man/vampire since World War II, but he also has plans for power of his own.  Before the end of season two, we were introduced to the savior, Mr. Quinlan (Rupert Penry-Jones).  Mr. Quinlan is a strigoi, born after his mother was infected while pregnant, but he doesn’t have the ability to spread the strain, and cannot be controlled by the Master.  Quinlan can walk in sunlight, is immortal and is looking to destroy The Master.  The story took a scary turn at the end of season two when Kelly found Zach and took him at the same time, appearing to kill Ephraim’s most trusted partner, Nora.

The Season 3 synopsis states that The Master continues his plan to increase his army of strigoi and turn the world upside down.  The strigoi are increasing in number and will not be contained for very long on the streets of New York City. The people of New York have been cut off from the rest of the nation and must fight for their survival.  Will Ephraim successfully find a cure against the strigoi strain, or will he be overwhelmed after a major loss?  Will Mr. Quinlan finally have his chance to destory the Master or will the Master continue to elude all threats?  Tune into The Stain Season 3 premiere on August 28 on FX.

MacGyver Reboot – I’m Rethinking My Stance

MacGyver-logo

Okay, I’ll admit when I first heard about this reboot I was pissed off.  In fact, I wrote an article about it right here on skatronixxx.com.  However, recently CBS has released some featurettes showing some behind the scenes stuff and shown a bit more of the action.  Here… have a look….

See?  Can ya blame me?

Seriously.  It looks like CBS may have taken some of the criticisms to heart and tried to fix some of the problems.  For instance, in the original “preview” video, they called George Eads’ character “Lincoln”, but as you can see from the video I shared he’s now going to be playing Jack Dalton… one of Mac’s old friends that always seemed to get Mac into trouble.  The friend that could never lie to Mac because his eye twitched when he did and gave him away.  I kind of like this small homage to the original even if this Jack is a former CIA agent and the original Jack was a n’er-do-well pilot.  I saw elsewhere that there’s also a character named Patricia Thornton, another slight nod to the original.  I guess they couldn’t name her the female version of Pete…. is there a female version of Pete?

Anyway, the point is that with the new info they’re putting out there, I’m starting to think that I might actually be able to watch this without cringing…. but I’ll let you know when I start reviewing it Fridays this Fall right here.  So, watch this space.  =)

rsz_otati_q.jpg

So according to website MCU Exchange Thor and the Hulk will encounter the Cotati in Thor:Ragnarok.

The site are quoted as saying the following “Our source tells us that while they are chasing the plot, they will in some way encounter the Cotati, one of the oldest species of aliens in the Marvel Universe, as old as the Kree and Skrull races.”

The Cotati are a alien race with telepathic abilities and they look like plants and trees and used to inhabit the planet Hala which they shared with the Kree. They also have a link to Mantis who will be making her first appearance in Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 played by Pom Klementieff. The Cotati believe that Mantis is the perfect human being and decided to help raise and train her.

Ballers SN2 EP4 – ‘World of Hurt’

As we fly through another episode of Ballers  we join Spencer Strasmore (Dwayne Johnson) facing a series of obstacles in his life as the head of the sports division at Anderson Financial. The first hit comes from Spencer’s adversary Andre who is spotted entertaining one of his top client’s representative, Victoria.  Spence already knows Su is good as gone.

Next he gets a call from Reggie (London Brown) giving Spence a heads up about a press conference to announce the status of Vernon Littlefield (Donovan W. Carter), who is recovering from surgery on his injured Achilles. Vernon has not yet received a call about any decision from Dallas about whether they will keep him or not. I guess we have to see it live on tv! Talk about keeping everyone on the edge until the end!

When we finally catch up with Ricky Jerret (John David Washington) we find him hitting it off pretty well with his old man. With the vibe of the movie Barber Shop with Ice Cube, Ricky and his dad bond over a haircut at the neighborhood barber then continue their connection session by having a few at the local bar. In classic Ricky Jerret style, the good times quickly turn for the worse and the two end up in a little scruffle. Well that ended well right?

Now switching gears and checking in with the new papa Charles Greane (Omar Benson Miller) and his personal struggle with a change in his role on the team he is anxious to give it a try. Unfortunately, it’s not going to happen. You heard me correct! Seifert has a sit down with him to let him go. hmmmm…what now?

As the episode winds down Anderson chews out the fantastic duo for spending too much and not securing enough clients. Joe scoops up dirt on Andre to help Spence put them back in the game and Dallas announces what their plans are with Vernon live on air! Let’s not forget Spencer has his own demons to deal with and is seen scooping up a bottle of Vernon’s pain meds as he exits his client’s home.

Oh, I almost forgot Jason tries to sign a new client throughout the episode and finds himself waist deep in swamp water without a paddle. Do you think he signed that client?

In the final scene Spencer initiates their plan of blackmailing Andre with the new found information that Joe surfaced. Andre doesn’t bat an eye. He throws some cash on the table, stands up, and walks away. They are playing with a shark and they are just minnows.

Time just flies when we’re having fun! I can’t wait until next week for the next episode! Until then, I’m MALIA MERCEDES blogging for Skatronixxx.com. You can also catch me at maliamercedes.com where I’m always boasting my loyalty with “Loyal Bloodline”.

Scream SN2 EP10 – ‘The Vanishing’

scream

Where to even begin on this weeks episode. It’s not because the episode had a lot going on but because the storylines are starting to feel very disjointed. The first season did a good job of revealing key information while still keeping the mystery and intrigue till the end and it knew how to turn a good plot twist. This season the series seems to be dragging its feet in revealing any real motivation for the current killings and twists that should be nuclear level reveals are going off like wet fireworks. This week had the feel of a filler episode that buried key pieces of information and it also had a very emotional yet really unnecessary moment.

I’m just going to dive in to the key pieces of info that were revealed in this episode. The big reveal is that Brandon James could be alive. We come to this conclusion because the pig farm connection has been clarified a little more. Maggie is performing an autopsy on Piper and she finds a pig heart stuffed in her chest. When sheriff Acosta sees this he tells Maggie that its a message for them from Brandon James. Through some flashbacks we find out that an injured Brandon James showed up at Maggie’s house and she gets Acosta to help her. They take him to the pig farm and drop him off on the porch. Maggie finds his knife and they bury it next to the house. Maggie believes that Brandon James died since he was wounded and he was out in the middle of nowhere. Acosta believes that he survived which would mean that James somehow managed to heal himself with no medical supplies and with no readily available food source, unless there were still pigs there, and no transportation. It’s ridiculous but what keeps the theory alive is that Acosta goes to the pig farm to check it out and while there he hears movement from the upstairs. When he checks it out he finds a hidden room behind a bed that pulls down from the wall. Inside the secret room it looks like someone has been living there for sometime but whoever made the noise is gone. When Acosta looks out the window the camera pans back and shows a person in a black hoodie standing next to a tree looking at Acosta. The black hoodie was the uniform of Brandon James so according to horror movie logic a person in a black figure means Brandon James is back.

This information didn’t even register as anything shocking. It felt very disconnected and unrelated to whats going on even though I’m assuming its a big reason why everything is going on. Either Brandon James is alive and is starting to exact his revenge on the ones who killed his daughter or someone found out about this because James probably wrote everything down on something that was easily found and that person is taking on the mantle of Brandon James who started everything beginning with Piper. What’s causing this disconnect is the handling of the reveal of Audrey’s role with Piper. Audrey is still sticking to her story that she didn’t know Piper was killing everyone and her reason for contacting Piper in the first place was to get information for her Brandon James documentary, which I almost forgot Audrey was a videographer. They jettisoned that aspect of her character for some reason. The relationship between her and Emma is completely gone in this episode because Emma doesn’t believe everything that Audrey is telling her. In their storyline this episode they have to find Noah before he dies because like I called it last episode the killer targeted Noah because he got laid. It’s funny that when the killer tells him he’s going to die for breaking the no sex rule Noah tells him that’s an outdated rule. A nice way of saying that the Scream movies are old school now. The killer gives Emma and Audrey a little scavenger hunt to get clues for Noah’s location because he’s buried alive and only has 5 hours of air. The clue sends them to Noah’s room where they find a note that asks what’s behind Noah’s obsession. The answer to the riddle is that the next clue is behind his murder board. The question was written on a piece of paper that is a copy of one of the letters Audrey wrote to Piper. It’s the one where she tells Piper that she wants her to come to town so she can teach Emma a lesson because she’s become fake and her friends are not real friends. Audrey finally reveals that the reason she brought Piper was because she had fallen in love with Emma but she broke her heart. It was a sad but touching moment between the two. And even though Audrey unleashed Piper on the town you felt bad for her after her confession.

The big misstep for this episode was what they did to Noah. He got lured to the lake by the killer and then is stabbed and put into a coffin. As he’s slowly dying he starts to imagine Zoe with him and she helps him get through his terrible ordeal. When he gets saved by Audrey and Emma they find out that Zoe has also been captured and since Noah was taken at the lake that means that Zoe is there. When they get to the lake they find her box next to the boardwalk where Piper was shot. Her box is only half way into the water but when they pull her out she’s already dead. The video link the killer sent them of her pleading for help was a recording so its likely that she was already dead when Noah showed up at the lake when he was captured. I say this is a big misstep because this is the second girlfriend of Noah’s that’s been killed. Not only that but its a troubling trend that the minority character is the one getting killed off. Last season Noah’s girlfriend was oriental and she was stabbed to death. This season Noah’s girlfriend was black and she was drowned. Not only is fridging a tired and unnecessary story trope, its egregious when two times in a row you fridge a minority. And all this for what really? If it’s to turn Noah into the next serial killer they could’ve gone a different route that didn’t require having to kill every girlfriend he gets.

Another great example of horror movie logic in this episode besides having to believe that Brandon James could’ve survived in the sticks is that this seasons killer knows very personal details from the Lakewood 6. Noah being buried at an old stable is a callback to their childhood because thats where they met each other as kids. Piper knew this because Audrey told her about her childhood and Piper passed it along to whoever else was helping her in the first season. So whoever is taking revenge for Piper is using all this information to torture the Lakewood kids. But there is also someone who knows the secrets of Maggie and Acosta. There is still too many maybes floating around. Brandon James may be alive. Piper maybe had other people helping her in the first season. I’m maybe still interested in this show.

In one more flashback we find out that Maggie would communicate with James by putting notes in a tree at her old house. So Maggie goes back to the tree and puts in a note to leave Emma alone. The person who picks up the note, none other than Eli who was absent from last weeks episode. Absent this episode was Stavo. I’m still thinking Eli and Stavo are behind everything but 10 episodes in there is no clear motive as to why, or if it is revenge for Piper what their connection is to her. With two episodes left in the season we better be getting some good answers. Check out below for a preview of next weeks episode.

[UPDATE] American Horror Story Season 6? Teasers

wp-1470609733822.jpg

Don’t Close Your Eyes

As American Horror Story’s air date is fastly approaching  the creators have been dropping little teasers on social media in the lead up to the air date which is on the 14/09/16. The latest teaser this week have been a picture of a woman with her eyes closed and spiders coming out of them. Other teasers include: A house in the middle of nowhere with smoke coming out of the chimney that resemble a six and a question mark (6?), then the sound of a chainsaw with blood curdling screams coming from the house.

In the previous AHS seasons you knew what they were about, but with season 6 it still remains somewhat of a mystery as to what the story line might be even with the last two hints and as we know the creators mentioned that season 6 was going to be a lot darker than previous seasons and that shows in the latest teaser.

I will be keeping you all up to date on everything AHS and I will also be the resident reviewer for this season and hopefully future season, I super excited for this season and I look forward to bring you my thoughts and reviews each week and I also look forward to hearing your thoughts as well. Below you will find all the teasers that have been released so far for season 6.

Jared Leto’s Suicide Squad Joker Inspired By David Bowie

And why not? For one, the actor who plays the Joker in the new Suicide Squad movie is the singer of the band 30 Seconds to Mars; most musically inclined artists follow and are inspired by the legends of the past like David Bowie, who passed away this January. Let’s not forget the kind of flare the late great rocker had while on and off stage. He had many amazing alter egos, like Ziggy Stardust and his role as the Goblin King in the timeless movie Labyrinth. Of course he would be considered an inspiration to one so prismatic as Jared Leto while he lights up the screen as the crazy (insert other word) Joker.

joker  bowie

In an interview he gave NME, Leto said, “We discussed David Bowie a bit—not necessarily the music of David, but his class, his elegance, his timelessness.” The Mars man also went on to say that David Bowie is probably an inspiration for almost anything creatively. Which makes sense if you think about it. The man was a creative genius who stole the show on and off stage, as well as the hearts of all those who heard him. So it’s no wonder Jared would want a piece of that for the new Joker, in hopes he too will be remembered like the ones of the past portrayed by Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger and Cesar Romero. ^_^
