Beetlejuice! BEETLEJUICE!! BEETL . . . Awww

beetlejuice1_640

In a year of long awaited sequels (Independence Day: ResurgenceJason BourneGhostbusters), why not talk about one of the longest awaited sequels from this particular writers’ childhood . . . Beetlejuice ! The 1988 film stars Michael Keaton (BatmanMr. MomBirdman) as the title character. Keaton recently spoke to Variety about the possibility of returning as the title character in a brand new Beetlejuice movie. When asked if he had heard anything about the production of a new film, Keaton didn’t hesitate to shoot down any rumors . . . and my dreams.

“No. Zero. You always hear things, that this is happening, and people seem to know more about it than I do … it’s possible that ship has sailed.”

Only a few years ago rumors that a new Beetlejuice movie was definitely on its way. Whatever is causing the hold up, one thing is abundantly clear: it has very little (or anything at all) to do with Keaton’s interest in the role. Keaton went on to praise the original film and also made it very clear that he’d rather not do it at all if it meant doing it wrong.

“The only way to do it is to do it right. So much of it was improvised and so much was beautifully handmade by the artist that is Tim Burton. If you can’t get close to that, you leave it alone. There are certain movies that are like Indian burial grounds. You never ride over them. Bad s — happens if you cross that. You don’t touch certain things. They are sacred.”

Buffy Who The Vampire Slayer? – Joss Whedon Would Write For A Female Doctor

landscape-1469634797-dr-who-whedon

Speaking at San Diego Comic Con’s Nerd HQ, Joss Whedon has stated he would write for Doctor Who…but only if the Doctor is female or played by Idris Elba.

In response to a fan’s question of whether he would consider writing for the show, Joss Whedon said ‘Check back when the Doctor is a she. Or Idris Elba!’. However he later stated that he would consider it ‘daunting’ to ‘follow in the footsteps of Moffat and the guys’. Another concern he expressed was the amount of researched involved in writing for Doctor Who.

‘I’d have to do a lot of research. Like, what, watch 40 years of television? I mean, I’ve seen some of it, but let’s get real,’ He told Nerd HQ on Sunday.

Personally, I have to disagree with Joss Whedon’s notion about the amount of research involved. Some of the best Doctor Who stories ignore the continuity previously established in the show – 2007’s Blink, for example, barely even featured the Doctor and is widely considered a classic by Whovians. One of the many things 80s producer John Nathan Turner was accused of was pandering too closely to Doctor Who’s mythology and alienating new viewers in the process. 1985’s The Two Doctors brought back the second Doctor (as played by Patrick Troughton) only two years’ after his last appearance!

Joss Whedon is one of the Media Industry’s strongest writers and I am sure he could think up an original idea that would attract the audience’s imagination rather than rely too heavily on the show’s past. He’s also the mind behind some of the industry’s strongest female characters including the likes of Buffy Summers and arguably one of the most awesome SHIELD Agents of all time: Melinda May (whilst he is not the showrunner of Agents of SHIELD, he was one of the writers behind the show’s very first episode). Doctor Who has a long history of strong female characters – the fourth Doctor’s companion Romana (a Time Lady from the planet Gallifrey) being the most notable example – and who wouldn’t want to see Joss Whedon gift the show another? Hell, I’d give anything to see Joss Whedon write Lalla Ward’s Romana!

Also: note to Joss Whedon – Doctor Who’s been on nearly 53 years, not 40.

Black Mirror Returns To Fill The Dark, Twisted Cyber Hole In Your Heart

BlackMirrorTitleCard

It started with a cryptic tweet from the official Black Mirror account and then Variety verified what most believed the tweet to mean. Black Mirror is going to return with a new season on October 21st with 12 new episodes. If you haven’t seen Black Mirror yet then stop reading and get on Netflix and start binging the series.

Black Mirror is an anthology series that is the successor to the Twilight Zone mantle. The series is only two seasons long that contain 3 episodes each plus a Christmas special so its an easy weekend binge which you should start like right now. Each episode tells a standalone story that deals with how technology can change and warp individual lives and society as a whole. From an episode that shows a dystopian society where you’re either a human turbine or a contestant on a reality show that chews you up and spits you out alive, to a mans decent into madness from becoming obsessed with a tech implant. The christmas special kind of ties all the plot threads to reveal a series wide twist that the stories you watched are actually connected in some way or another.

The return of Black Mirror with 12 episodes is a welcome change that I await with a little trepidation. The first two seasons and christmas special are an excellent example of less is more. The short format keeps the series tight and very focused plot wise. There are no such things as filler episodes in a 3 episode run and the detail put into each serves to keep them new and distinct but helps maintain the same tone throughout the series. Hopefully that will stay in play with a 12 episode run. October 21st can’t get here soon enough.

ONCE UPON A TIME To Get Some Aladdin Action!!

Once-Upon-a-Time-1024x576

*EEEK!!!* Yes yes yes, this is so cool. OK sorry. I have watched all the episodes for this wonderful TV series, and I am super excited about this one. The fact that Aladdin, the street boy and the treacherous Jafar are going to be in the series this season is fantastic. According to Entertainment Weekly (ew.com) Deniz Akdeniz will play Aladdin, and Oded Fehr will play Jafar. (Now if you watched the Wonderland series at all, they had a Jafar played by Lost‘s Naveen Andrews.) Also they will have a Princess Jasmine (to be played by Karen David) and I hope they will do the Genie as well. Which I am sure they will do. I mean what is Aladdin without the Genie? I mean really ….

This sounds pretty awesome. So far I have not been disappointed with the series and I am sure this season will be no different. I love how they surprise us with new wonderful Disney peeps from the past (like Belle, Beast, Snow White, and Peter Pan) and uprising current loves, (like characters from Frozen and Brave.) So for them to bounce back to classic Disney is so exciting. Man, I can’t wait to see how they incorporate this story into our beloved known characters! *eeeek* (Sorry, yes, I did two of those this article… fangirling!!!!)

This trailer I show below was released at San Diego ComicCon this year, (SOMEDAY I WILL BE THERE) and it looks soooooooo good. OK… that’s all for now so I hope you enjoy. Until next time my friends…

Will The Flash Appear In Suicide Squad?

ezra-miller-flash-ripped

The Suicide Squad is made up of some of the greatest villains known to DC and most belong to Batman (honesty, I think the most popular ones everyone knows are Batman villains…) Yet there is one bad guy, Captain Boomerang, that fights mainly our super speedy, red-suited crusader… So you cant help but wonder: does this mean we may see a blur of The Flash in the film like we get to of the Dark Knight? (TINGLES!)

captain-boomerang-suicide-squad-1jpg-b8a31b1280wjpg-c735f8_765w.jpg

So there were some rumors that The Flash may make a “quick” appearance in the movie, considering one of the villains, and it seems this rumor is true. At the recent San Diego Comic Con, they showed a preview of the movie, showing the origins of Captain Boomerang and there is a scene where he is robbing a bank. In this scene we see a flash of lightning, much like we would see in the TV series when Flash arrives on the scene. OOOOOOH!!!! Also, EZra Miller is rumored to play the roll of the scarlet speedster.

The Flash…maybe???

Goodness, Justice League and The Suicide Squad… Now I know more people love the Marvel universe more than DC. But this girl is more DC than Marvel simply because I grew up being in love with Superman. (My first crush was Christopher Reeve…) No guessing my age guys J So this is so exciting!! And I love crossovers. Being into comics and the like, we see there are infinite possibilities out there with other worlds and interchangeable story lines. GAAAAH luv luv luv. Can’t wait to see what other surprises may be in store for us with the DC universe and movies ^_^

Scream SN2 EP9 – ‘ The Orphanage ‘

download

I’m starting my reviews for Scream a little late in the game, but at the same time the series is starting to pick up a little late in the game as well. I have had some qualms with this season of Scream. The main characters haven’t been as engaging as in the first season, Emma in particular was becoming a bit problematic. You would think that going through the horrors of last season she would be a little bit more understanding with her mom or her boyfriend but she’s been very quick to turn against them over any little thing. Kieran seems stuck on brooding mode and what is up with that beard? Can you really call it a beard? Seems more like an overzealous goatee.

The why hasn’t been clearly defined this season either. Last season we knew that it was because of Brandon James and someone making the kids of the people he grew up pay for their parents sins. This season it just seems like someone with a serial killer fetish is stalking the Lakewood 6, the main teenage characters that survived last season. But why? Is there another secret that their parents covered up. Is there still some secret left to uncover from the Lakewood 6 that didn’t come out last season. The only one that had a clear reason for having a target on their back is Audrey. Since the beginning of this season Audrey has been trying to keep the killer of this season from revealing her involvement with Piper. Last week it was finally revealed to Emma via an email that contained an audio file where Audrey confesses she brought Piper to Lakewood. This week shows the fallout of this reveal plus a little clarity as to the why this is happening.

This weeks episode seems to go back to its season one roots where the gang discovers some key pieces of information with some gruesome deaths mixed in. The episode opens with Emma killing Kieran, Noah and Audrey in her kitchen with a knife. This turns out to be a very bad nightmare but when she wakes up she finds herself in the kitchen gripping a knife. Emma only explains to Kieran that she has dreams where her hands are bloody but she’s never actually sleep walked and grabbed a knife. This could be foreshadowing that Emma’s fractured psyche could be brining up a violent side, a side that could lead her to murder. And as much as I liked fight club I hope they don’t go that route where Emma has two fully functioning personalities, the bad Emma becomes active when the good Emma goes to sleep but good Emma has no recollection of what bad Emma does. Brooke wakes up with Stavo in her bed looking at her. She comments that him doing that makes him creepy and that’s why no one likes him. He asks her if she likes him and she says she does because he tells her nice things and smells good. To Stavo that’s creepy and you can believe him because he’s pretty creepy himself. How creepy you ask? Well besides the fact that he likes to draw living people dead in very detailed fashion, he’s got a gnarly spine tattoo running up his back and he also steals lipstick from Brooke. That’s textbook creepiness right there.

At school the rift between Emma and Audrey starts to manifest itself. They get into an argument and after Emma tells Audrey she blames her for everything that happened with Piper she shoves Audrey into some lockers. Before this dustup Noah gets a little piece from Emma too but thankfully it wasn’t as bad as with Audrey. Noah has always been there for his two friends and I’m glad they didn’t tear Emma and Noah apart. She needs him more than ever to get to the bottom of this mystery and sure enough Noah gets on the case to figure out who sent Emma the audio file. After all this happens Emma finally gets to her locker and when she opens it she finds a cassette from a recorder hanging from a chunk of long hair and on her locker mirror are the words PLAY ME written in lipstick, like maybe the one Stavo took from Brooke, hmmm. Noah and Audrey have their own argument about the email that Emma received. Since the recording was a conversation she had with Noah in his room, she wants to know why he was recording her. Noah says that it was done by accident but we know that when that conversation happened Noah deliberately recorded and saved it. So why the lie, Noah? Audrey also accuses Noah’s girlfriend Zoe since the only people that have access to his room are his mom, Audrey and Zoe with the only one obvious suspect who would leak the audio file would be Zoe. Emma and Kieran listen to the locker cassette which ends up being a recorded conversation that Ms. Lang and Emma had at the coffee shop where Lang was offering her help and Emma told her to back off. Ms. Lang makes additional comments about how hostile Emma is, again highlighting her violent side. This makes Kieran and Emma focus on Ms. Lang so they decide to visit her in the hospital.

At the hospital they manage to get into Ms. Lang’s room and when she comes to she starts to freak out when she sees Emma. When Emma and Kieran are talking about how strange Lang’s reaction was to seeing Emma they overhear a delivery man dropping off flowers at the front desk to Ms. Lang’s room. The flowers are daisies. This is a shock since daisies are pretty much Brandon James calling card since he used to call Emma’s mom Daisy. Kieran goes over and takes the card from the daisies and its from Piper. This is one of those incredibly impossible moments that are only able to happen in horror movies. How is it possible that on the exact day, let alone the exact time that Emma is in the hospital the flowers were going to be dropped off. What if Emma had decided to go the next day she heard the tape recording? What if she went later in the day when deliveries are less likely to happen? Anyway, this only makes Emma and Kieran to double down on their investigation of Ms. Lang. Kieran goes back to her room and takes her house keys.

We also get some back story on Stavo when Maggie shows up to tell Sheriff Acosta about the dead bodies from the house fire. Acosta tells Maggie that when they were in Phoenix his wife died. Shortly after that Stavo and one of his friends were playing with a gun. Gun goes off and kills Stavo’s friend. By the time police showed up the friend was dead, but the real shocker was Stavo’s reaction. He was cool as a cucumber as Acosta says. It was believed that the kid was probably bleeding out for some time before help was contacted. So Stavo probably let his friend bleed out so he could experience his death and use it in his artwork. Again, creepiness is off the charts with this guy. The other odd development happens when Noah is investigating the email that sent the audio file. Audrey still believes its Zoe. When Zoe shows up at Noah’s house while he’s running a trace, her and Audrey get into a weird battle over Noah. Zoe believes that Audrey has been getting in the way of them hooking up and Audrey believes Zoe is jealous of their relationship. This odd love triangle feels really out of place and weird. Noah and Audrey have never shown any romantic inclinations towards each other and sure an episode ago Noah reveals that he had feelings for Audrey but all this really feels forced to create drama where there shouldn’t be. Noah and Audrey work better as a platonic friendship. Noah uncovers who sent the email and it turns out to be registered to, cue reveal music, Zoe. What? Zoe says it wasn’t her it was the one armed man. Not really but she does say it wasn’t her, obviously she’s being framed. Noah believes her and defends her from Audrey who then leaves. This act of solidarity really puts Zoe in the mood and Noah finally gets laid. But since this is a horror movie setting that means Noah will probably die soon. Remember one of the rules from the original Scream movie that all horror movies follow is to never have sex when there is a killer on the loose.

Back to Emma and Kieran’s investigation of Ms. Lang. They break into her house to see if they can uncover anything suspicious, Kieran’s exact words as they start searching the house. How do you know something is suspicious? Is it labeled as such? As they are checking out the house they find a picture hanging upside down on the wall. Now that has to be suspicious right, unless its some hipster way of hanging pictures. The picture is a group photo of young girls. The names listed at the bottom show Piper and Lang right next to each other. The picture is from a closed down foster home called Blessed Sister. It of course has a dark history. Before it was a foster home it was an insane asylum and the reason the foster home was closed down was because of an abuse scandal. All this comes from the walking library of weird, Noah. After scoring a major touchdown on his first time he’s talking with Zoe in a fort, nerd, and they are tossing around theories about how the killer would know about the audio file to begin with and how to steal it from Zoe to frame her. Noah finally figures it out that the camera he picked up from a storage unit that was supposed to give him evidence of who the accomplice was is actually bugged. The killer has been listening to him this entire time and thats why he knew about the recording. While he’s saying this he’s practically yelling at the camera saying he’s figured it out. I was thinking to myself, Noah just stop talking and destroy the camera immediately. He practically hand painted a target on his back. After that he gets the call from Emma asking about Blessed Sister.

The gang decides to go to Blessed Sister to see what more they can find about Piper and Lang. When they show up they find a rave in full force inside the foster home. Do people still have raves in abandoned facilities? Isn’t that so 2005? Audrey gets a killer call saying that she needs to get to Blessed Sister if she wants to save Noah since he’s the next one to go after figuring out the bugged camera. At the rave Emma and the gang find out that it’s a masquerade called Face the Mask. Emma also finds out that the party was supposedly setup by her and Audrey, the invite has their names as top billing. Another rule to never break in a horror move setting is to never split up, but thats what the gang does. Zoe and Noah go to turn off the power, since turning off the lights with a possible killer on the loose is a really good idea. Kieran makes a call to the police so they can come and get everyone out of the foster home. Emma runs into Hayley, the girl involved in the killer prank on Audrey from the season premiere. Hayley gives Emma some cryptic responses about who is behind the party. She tells her that her special friend is the one who set it up. She disappears into the crowd and while Emma is looking for her she runs into Audrey. We go back to Hayley for a bit where she’s talking to her special friend. A cloaked figure that doesn’t talk and their back is turned to us. Hayley walks up to the figure trying to coax a reaction out of them. The camera turns as she pulls the Brandon James mask over his face. She decides that since he isn’t going to talk she’s going to find another way to get a reaction from him. She gets down on her knees, but before she can get busy the killer pulls out a knife and starts to stab her. Her screams are mixed in with the loud music and no one pays attention to screams at a serial killer theme party. It reminded me of the myth that the scream heard in the rollercoaster song is the scream of a woman being murdered outside the recording booth. Back to Emma and Audrey they decide to band together to look for Noah after Audrey tells her he’s next on the kill list. On their journey through the foster home they find pictures of Piper. They follow them like creepy breadcrumbs to a room where Piper’s dead body is sitting in a chair. All this leads them to believe that the killer wanted them together at the foster home all along, which is another scenario only possible in horror movie land. How did the killer know that Emma and Audrey would find each other in a foster home full of ravers and that they would end up finding the dead Piper room? This discovery though leads them to the conclusion that since they are responsible for killing Piper someone is out for revenge.

More evidence that Stavo is the main suspect is after Hayley’s murder you see Stavo in the middle of the crowd without a mask. He’s the only one without a mask. It could be that after killing Hayley he took off the Brandon James getup. Also he ends up meeting Brooke in a hotel room like how she used to meet Mr. Branson. In the room Brooke says that it was her mothers special room. Stavo then adds, for her special friends. When the rave gets cleared out by the cops they find Hayley’s body hanging over the DJ booth under the Face the Mask banner. When the sheriff sees her body he calls her a special friend. Theres that expression again.

The ninth episode of Scream gave a little bit of clarity to the why of the killings. It looks to be revenge for what happened to Piper. But if that’s the case then why was Ms. Lang attacked? And what connection does Stavo have to Ms. Lang or Piper? It could be two different parties crossing paths. Ms. Lang was trying to get revenge for Piper and that clashed with Stavo’s plan, whatever that may be and all this focus on Lang is to shift focus away from him. Which then means this episode didn’t give us much clarity after all. One character that was completely missing this episode was Eli, Kieran’s cousin. What was he up to besides breaking into peoples homes and watching them sleep. Also missing for several episodes is the whole pig farm thing. They’ve only mentioned that the farm belonged to Brandon James’ brother and that Emma spent a lot of time there when she was little but no reason why she’s having memories of that place now. So who are your suspects for who’s wearing the mask and wielding the knife. The Scream killers always operate in two’s like the Sith, one mastermind and one accomplice. My money is on Stavo and Eli, Stavo being the mastermind and Eli being the accomplice. I think Ms. Lang just got caught in the crossfire and posed no real physical threat to the Lakewood 6.

The ’24: Legacy’ Panel Reveals From San Diego Comic Con

24 legacy_logo

The iconic ticking clock resets with the 12-epsiode spinoff series 24: Legacy. It will keep the original series real-time format and ticking clock but with new stories and new characters. The series will follow Corey Hawkins (‘Straight Outta Comptom’, ‘TWD’) as Army Ranger Eric Carter, who was deployed by CTU to dispose of a terrorist leader. Back home, trying to readjust to a normal life, he finds out the terrorist cell are crossing off his unit. On the run with wife Nicole (Anna Diop), he must team up with former CTU director Rebecca Ingram (Miranda Otto, ‘Homeland’) to stop what could potentially be the largest-scale terror attack on US soil.

24: Legacy series stars Corey Hawkins, Miranda Otto, Jimmy Smitts and 24 creators/producers Howard Gordon, Manny Coto and Evan Katz attended Fox’s Action Showcase panel this year at San Diego Comic Con. Here are some of the panels biggest reveals of what we can expect from the new series:

  • EP Manny Coto stated “It is not a reboot, it is an expansion of the 24 universe; Jack and Chloe are still out there… You never know when those worlds may intersect.”
  • He also said “Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland), Chloe (Mary Lynn Rajskub) and the other characters are all alive,” “I think all of us really want to finish that story. We love that character as well.” Although, it’s unlikely this story will be told in 24: Legacy, but this gives us hope that we might at least get one more series of 24 to see how Jack gets out of prison (and probably stop a terror attack at the same time).
  • Eric Carter (Corey Hawkins) is “a new hero for a new day.” Hawkins said “He has his flaws. Over the course of the season, he’s going to be forced to make a lot of morally questionable choices in the same way Jack Bauer did, but the difference is he’s a soldier. The rules of engagement are different on the homeland. He’s going to be forced to reckon with that, and he struggles with that internally in protecting his home, his family, but also his responsibilities to his country.”
  • Writer/EP Evan Katz described the threat Eric Carter will face as one that reflects current events.
  • One of Jack Bauer’s famous phrases was “Damnit!”, when asked about whether Eric would too use this phrase, Hawkins replied laughing “He might, it’s a long day.”

The panel also included a look at the previously released trailer which you can check out below. Also, exclusive sneak-peak clips were shown, but have not been released online yet. One clip was an extended look at the home invasion scene shown in the trailer.

24: Legacy will air in February 2017. Are you excited for this new series? Share your comments.

Wheelies Day Out To Miss Fisher’s Costume Exhibition

wp-1469613141614.jpg

Phryne Fisher

Last week I was lucky enough to win a double pass to the Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries Costume exhibition at Old Government House which is in Brisbane, Australia. I attended the exhibition on Sunday 24th of July and our pass also included the Garden Party which was on the lawn areas of Old Government House and my god what a sight it was to see, there were young and old all done to the nines in 1920s attire all enjoying the picnic on the laws with beautiful hampers with fancy sandwiches, tea an cakes aplenty with a trio belting out hits of the 20s, while folks floated across the dance floor but for me the best part was the costume exhibition, every piece in the exibition was actually worn in the show, they were all incredibly beautiful and all designed by australian designer Marion Boyce. Marion and her team created 120 costumes for the series, including sleepwear, daywear, nightwear and special occasion outfits.
For those that have not heard of or watched Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries then here is a little background about one of my all time favorite Australian crime series if you haven’t seen it then you my friends are missing out!

What is Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries and who is Miss Fisher?

Well Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries is an Australian television drama series and it based on the author Kerry Greenwood’s novels and was created by Deb Cox and Fiona Eagger, the series revolves around the personal and professional life of Phryne Fisher played by Essie Davis, a glamorous private detective in 1920s Melbourne who continually keeps Detective Inspector John “Jack” Robinson played by Nathan Page and his Constable Hugh Collins played by Hugo Johnston-Bert on their toes with her sass and smarts.

wp-1469613110990.jpg

Dot, Jack, Phryne and Hugh

The other cast members include:
Dorothy “Dot” Williams is Miss Fisher’s paid companion, Dot is a devout Catholic and is in a relationship with Hugh Collins. Dot is played by Ashleigh Cummings

Mr Butler is Miss Fisher’s loyal butler played by Richard Bligh, is an excellent household manager who provides good advice when needed, Mr Butler is also a veteran from the Australian Imperial Force who can put up a fight if needed to.

Bert Johnson and Cec Yates played by Travis McMahon and Anthony Sharpe, Two working-class friends and devout communists, who often assist Miss Fisher’s investigations.

Dr Elizabeth “Mac” Macmillan played by Tammy MacIntosh, is Miss Fisher’s close friend and doctor at a woman’s hospital in Melbourne

Jane Ross played by Ruby Rees-Wemyss, is Miss Fisher’s ward, who shares the same name with Phryne’s deceased sister.

Prudence Elizabeth Stanley played by Miriam Margolyes, is Miss Fisher’s aunt and a reputation-conscious society matron.

Murdoch Foyle played Nicholas Bell, a former university lecturer imprisoned after the disappearance of Miss Fisher’s sister Jane.

Jack & Phryne

The photos really don’t do the stunning costumes justice, in person they are absolutely beautiful and I was in awe of the whole exhibition and so lucky I got the opportunity to see it. Below I have created a little video of the exibition so I hope you enjoy it as much as I did creating it. You will also find links to the Miss Fisher’s site. Miss Fisher also has a YouTube channel.

Killjoys SN2 EP4 – ‘Schooled’

rsz_killjoys-trio1.jpg

Welcome Back Killjoys Fans!  This episode, Schooled,  was rife with earthy sexual tension and innuendo between D’Avin and Dutch  –  Dutch says “I want this”, D’Avin asks “How bad?” and Dutch responds with a sly smile “As bad as you’ve got!”.  Yeah okay, they were training in unarmed combat, but hoo-BOY were the sparks a-flyin! To the point that when Lucy put Turin through on a video call, about the only thing he didn’t tell them was to “Get a room”! Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Is A Reboot???

Everyone’s favourite pirate is back again, but this time it’s not for a sequel. Unlike previous Pirates of the Caribbean movies, Dead Men Tell No Tales will be more of a reboot. Savvy? Well you might be thinking how is this possible, considering our main man Johnny Depp is reprising his role as Captain Jack Sparrow. The franchise will focus on Sparrow’s rivalry with his former nemesis Captain Salazar (so that’s what happened after he left Hogwarts), as well as Will Turner’s relationship with his son Henry Turner. I won’t go into further detail because then it won’t be much of a surprise, but since this is supposedly the final movie of the franchise just know that Disney plans on going out with a bang. Filming commenced on February 17, 2015, and finished on July 8, 2015. After nearly a year in post-production, additional photography was finished on April 13th, 2016.

Here’s the cast:

  • Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow
  • Javier Bardem as Captain Salazar
  • Geoffrey Rush as Captain Hector Barbossa
  • Brenton Thwaites as Henry Turner
  • Kaya Scodelario as Carina Smyth
  • Orlando Bloom as Will Turner / Davy Jones
  • Kevin McNally as Mr. Gibbs

Yes, sadly Keira Knightley‘s Elizabeth Swann will not be returning. Personally I would’ve loved to see her and Will have a little reunion, but oh well. On another note, Javier Bardem, husband of Penelope Cruz who portrayed Angelica in the fourth POTC movie, will be a part of the same franchise. Cool, right? As for the other two new main cast members, Brenton Thwaites and Kaya Scodelario, I think they’ve made perfect additions to the POTC family. Scodelario even broke an arm while filming, see the picture below.

Scodelario and Thwaites on the set of POTC: Dead Men Tell No Tales

Here’s the plot: ‘Captain Jack Sparrow finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar, escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea…including him. Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.’

While the trailer has yet to be released, Disney has announced the official release date for the film to be May 26, 2017, so save the date and stock up on rum.

Are you excited for POTC5? Or do you think Disney should’ve called it quits with the last one? Whatever your opinion, I’d love to hear it. Share, like and comment below, or tweet me @SohoDoll.
