Killjoys SN2 EP2 – ‘Wild,Wild Westerly’

kj

Hi fellow Killjoys fans!

Did I mention in the last episode that I really like the new title sequence?

You are most likely not going to be too happy with me this week. I felt that this episode was not a great one. The usually snappy one-liners sucked – “The dickiest dick who ever dicked”?? That the best you got, Johnny? Line delivery felt forced, one example was when D’Avin held Pree back from entering The Royale. The plot line advanced the story arc only slightly. There were good moments, for instance the soundtrack playing in the background when the trio was trying to save Scarback Alvis from a really bad life choice was amazing. It took me a bit of digging, but I eventually found out the song is called Pillars & Pyre, by Dralms. Haunting, ethereal and wholly appropriate for the scene. It starts at about 1:20.

K, enough about what I thought, let me give you a description of what happened this week in Episode 2 – Wild, Wild Westerly. [Read more…]

San Diego Comic Con 2016 Funko Pop Exclusives! Wave 3

main

Let’s face it, everyone loves Funko Pops, they are this generations version of the Beanie Babies. They are cute, collectible and there seems to be no end to them. I started collecting them forSkatronixxx Jr but stopped after realising that I’d never be able to collect them all. Would I still continue collecting them? Sure if I had the money, but alas I have temporarily put my Funko Pop collection on hold, it doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy looking at them though!

There are however hardcore Funko fans out there and  the company knows this, that’s why they are aiming to bombard those lucky people who are going to San Diego Comic Con or SDCC with at least nine waves of exclusive figures.

What’s more having the ‘Funko Limited Edition 2016 Comic Con‘ sticker is a prize possesion for any serious collector and a cool trinket for the causal fan.

Daredevil SN1 EP7 – ‘Stick’

Stick-Young-Matt-Park-Bench

After the ante was raised in the last few episodes, Daredevil still has some high standards to live up to. The opening scene affirms that this show is still not pulling its punching. A Japanese gangster is running frantically only to be confronted by a man with a sword. The man unapologetically cuts off the hoodlum’s arm before interrogating him. Even after acquiring the info he needs, the man with the sword murders the Japanese gangster. This man, as the name implies, is Stick. Much of the episode is centered around him and shines some light on Daredevil’s origins.

Admittedly, I know little about Stick’s personality in the comics, but what works about this interpretation is how real this character seems. We’ve seen trainer characters before – there have been characters who are kind of gruff and bust the heroes’ chops and there are mystical characters who know these ancient fighting moves. Stick is a good balance between these common tropes. He shows off some great fighting skills, but he has a real world attitude – he jokes around with Matt (usually at Matt’s expense) and likes to kick back beers. He has a unique world philosophy where he feels his and Matt’s blindness are gifts because it gives them an experience of the world that most people don’t have, but at the same time has a bitter attitude that demonstrates how the world has hardened him. Veteran actor Sam Sheppard dons the role and his gruff, no-nonsense attitude makes this character feel like a genuine human.

Stick is not the only character who is fleshed out. This episode delves into Murdock’s origins. We learn how Stick trained Matt to hone his techniques – he does not just taste vanilla. He tastes the beans, the chemicals and what was on the hands of the man who scooped it. Stick and Daredevil are on the trail of Japanese gangster. There is a unique contrast in philosophy. Stick has been hardened to believe that killing is the only way while Murdock is violent but believes there are limits. The two have some impressive fight scenes. These are cleverly contrasted with scenes of Stick training a young Murdock. We see Stick capture Murdock in a hold then that is cut to Stick holding a young Matt in the same hold, where they discuss philosophy, which cuts back to Matt and Stick fighting in the present.

The fighting scenes are again intense. In the early scenes, we see Matt having a hard time holding his own against the more experienced Stick while later they know each other so well that they can match each other. The writers knew what cards to play – when Stick confronts the thug, it is appropriately violent. However, even though there are scenes where a young Matt is smacked around by Stick, it never feels excessive or made me squeemish. While continuity is present, this episode actually works as a good standalone story and an excellent origin tale.

Supernatural Creator Says The Show Will Go On

supernatural

In a recent interview, show creator Eric Kripke announced that currently the show has no plans to end.  That there were no plans for  Season 12 (beginning on October 13, 2016) to be the final season of The Show.  Kripke said that as long as The Boys (Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki) want to continue playing the Winchester Brothers then The Show would continue.

Ages ago, Mark Pedowitz, the head of The CW Network made the same announcement.  He has admitted that he is a fan of The Show and that as long as J2 wants to continue with the project, then he’ll keep it on the network’s schedule.

There has been a mass exodus of late, with several key members of the crew leaving The Show including Show Runner Jeremy Carver and fan favorite writer, Robbie Thompson, who also acted as a co-executive producer and co-producer on several episodes of The Show.  This caused a shiver to race through the famdom.  Fans began to worry if people were leaving before a cancellation notice hit the news.  Thank Chuck that is not the case!

Kripke’s comments are the talk of the famdom today.  I’ve seen comments on several different social media sites…. they’re mixed… some even unkind.  Some commenters have said that they were fans of The Show until (insert season here) but aren’t any more, that The Show needs to die already.  One person even said The Colt should kill it already.  All I’m going to say about these comments is ….  maybe you should use your energy elsewhere, like supporting a show that you do watch currently instead of pushing negativity out into the world about a show of which you once called yourself a fan.  If you don’t like it… don’t watch it.  Simple.  Easy.  Problem solved.

If you do love The Show, then I’m sure you’re as happy about Kripke’s comments as I am!  Tell us what you think of this news in the comments!
